We had a very good experience at Coastal Orthopedics. My elderly mother broke her shoulder and was treated here, and from the very beginning the care was exceptional. The doctors spent a great deal of time with her, making sure everything was explained clearly and that she felt comfortable and well cared for. She also completed her physical therapy there, where the therapists were patient, thorough, and dedicated to teaching her the exercises she needed to regain her strength. Thanks to their excellent care, she is now back to doing everything she loves--and even running circles around me! The facility itself is beautiful and absolutely spotless, with a top-notch physical therapy room. Every doctor we encountered was compassionate, attentive, and thorough. The staff and doctors once you get in front of them are great. But god help you if you need to call them or change an appointment. If you leave a message it will not be returned. The patient portal they dont use it for appointments And if you call, well you will have to talk to an AI agent first which bizarely takes 10-15 mins to answer and then puts you on hold to then..... Speak to someone in the Phillipines who then has you give all the same info you gave to the AI agent and who is clearly then having to call someone in the US to change an appointment. An extremely painful hour of my life. They have outsourced a key part of their business to an appalling provider. I will find a different PT provider just so I dont have to deal with their outsourced scheduling. read more

Super staff and nurses. Extremely polite and positive. The doctor? Actually not a fan. He's was rushed. Interrupted constantly. Was dismissive and seemed like he couldn't be bothered. His ONLY solution was cortisone shots and further testing, and, of course with my PPO insurance, that could have gone on forever. Perhaps another knee "specialist" who actually took more than 4 minutes to "listen" to a patient. My advise--Go elsewhere. read more

Went for his "free" assessment at Coastal with Mark Rogers, Chiropractor. As a former Ortho charge nurse, had back chronic back pain, and wanted to see an X-ray before deciding if ortho vs neuro, and decided to go to the doctor who specializes in spine care, made an appointment with them. When leaving Coastal Orthopedic Marc Rogers, Chiropractor, did not make a follow up, as I had a different plan. They called eventually, and I explained I wasn't coming back. Only to get a notice they are going to charge me , again, for unwanted and unauthorized care! This is nothing but a a factory produce line pts. He told me, maybe to impress me, but was seeing 6 other patients besides me. This shocked me, break that down to just how much time he spends with the patient.....not much. And all of that time he is looking at the X-ray and putting documentation in the computer, speaking a mile a minute. Do not recommend this type care, a doctor needs to spend more than 10 min. As a RN, this is depressing. And now his office is lying telling me I made the appointment when I checked out...the only thing that was said was thank you. Never stopped at the front desk. I had a fall and went to Coastal Orthopedics Lakewood Ranch location for over 3 yrs. They gave me a cortisone shot in each knee every time I went. That was every 6 weeks apart... Dr Lamar. He wanted me to have surgery on both knees. Said my knees were exasperated by the fall. Then I went to Dr Gehkts for pain management most of the time I saw PA's that did not give a poop. it was an in and out situation and give her another nerve block in neck and back. The last time I went I got a PA who was extremely honest and told me I got enough steroids in three years for 10 people. she was angry. Then my darling Dr. Sunberg, when he can do surgery and make money he loves you, if you need help forget it. They are not advocates for their patients. I have never been so frustrated and disappointed in my life. Please if you worthless shots go there, but if you need help go somewhere else!!!! read more

We visited Dr. Andre Odaly yesterday for my mother's follow-up appointment. Within fifteen seconds of entering the room without so much as a proper examination he pointed to her foot and immediately stated, "that needs to be amputated." This was my very first interaction with him, and while he was the surgeon at Blake Hospital, this was my mother's first follow-up visit. Necrosis has developed at the surgical site where he placed a plate, yet Dr. Odaly did not personally evaluate the wound. Instead, he based such a life-altering conclusion solely on a picture. We drove two hours for this appointment, and it was deeply disappointing to realize that I could have simply sent a photo. It left me with the unsettling impression that the in-person visit was more about billing insurance than about providing my mother the thoughtful care she deserves. My mother is 80 years old. To be spoken to so abruptly and without compassion left her feeling utterly defeated. While we understand that amputation may ultimately be unavoidable, where was the EMPATHY? Where was the acknowledgment of her fear, her pain, or even the dignity of being heard and examined properly? This interaction was profoundly disheartening, and it reflects a standard of care far below what any patient or family should expect from their physician. The entire surgery team, from the time I arrived until my departure time was nothing short of amazing. I want to give a sincere and heartfelt thank you to everyone in the surgery department that was involved. Now my post-op appointment with Jacob Babinec's assistant was a different story. Despite having me confirm that I would make it to my appointment on the 21st and pre-check in, when I got to Coastal Orthopedics, and was escorted into a room, I was asked why was I there and told that I had no reason to come in. I told the lady that I was told that they would be changing my dressing. She told me to unbutton my shirt so she can take a look. She said it looks fine, left the room, came back and told me that they were going to set another appointment for the following Monday. No apology for having us come in for nothing. read more

I went to Coastal for a plantar fasciitis issue and a torn meniscus. They make you prepay for everything even tho I have insurance. They charged me $373 for my MRI. My insurance carrier then notified them the charge should have only been $275. I requested a refund in December 2024. I still have not seen my $98 refund. It is now June 2025. They use an offshore 3rd party billing company who for 7 months has said it's a priority. They apparently don't have a direct link to the offices in Florida for Coastal to approve the refund. It is a joke. This is not how to run health care. Don't recommend them. read more

From appointment request to surgery has been wonderful. Called with bad hip pain and was given a next day appointment. Dr Harkess and Maggie were wonderful and surgery was scheduled. Doctors are great but there MRI department dose not know what they are doing and I can not get treatment there because they refuse to do a MRI of my shoulder because of a implant that is safe for MRI I have had 2 and there was never a problem. The doctors here have no manners and could care less about the patients, after being seen by pretty much every specialist there and was just constantly referred for physical therapy and being told by one that he couldn't do miracles and to top it all not one of them came to the ER after I had a bad fall and fractured my pelvis, the hospital had to find a private doctor to come check me out. At the end of the surgery, everything going well. Three weeks after surgery I had an intense. It ended up that Dr. Eric Sandbergnicked the sack around my spinal cord. the sack around my spinal cord. I went into the office the week before Easter with basically a volleyball at the end of my back. . Dr. Sunberg staff kept trying to convince me that this is just normal experience. Eventually, nerve bundle outside of the spinal sack resulted in blunt nerve root trauma. I had to actually threaten to test the fluid in the bottom of the back to verify whether the response of fluid inside. to verify fluid inside. Eventually, he reluctantly agreed with me and he fixed the tear the spinal sack. At that point it was too late. For the last 10 years I've dealt with debilitating spinal pain, I've had to have several other procedures to release the pain. Dr. Sunberg is the most arrogant physician I've ever dealt with in my life. is the most arrogant physician I've ever dealt with in my life. He never apologized. He never admitted that he made a mistake. In fact when he fix the spinal, there were actually no medical records from the hospital at Medical Center or coastal orthopedics to say that it even. I wouldn't let clip my toenails much less ever operate on me again. read more

Got in quickly when I called for an appointment. The Doctor was straightforward and to the point. Gave me a steroid injection in my knee after reviewing my x-rays. Told me to do 1-2 PT appointments if my pain didn't subside. Said if not better in 6 weeks just call and schedule an MRI. read more

I had to spend an hour and a half of my time speaking to multiple representatives in the billing office, including Vanessa and Amy. This was all over a bill of $147. Supposedly Nate "the back office" (someone who no one can speak to) submitted a claim to my insurance and accused my insurance of saying they wouldn't pay for the visit bc they were my secondary insurance. That turned out to be a lie. I had to get Linda from my insurance on the phone with them bc they said it was my responsibility to rectify the situation they would not file the claim and I am responsible for the charge. Linda told Amy (bc Vanessa wouldn't come back on the phone) the claim was never made and what Nate said was not true. The time that I wasted on their fraud I can't get back. I also believe I heard Vanessa laughing when I tried to explain to her she was wrong.. Never again... unbelievable experience. Patients staying with them better have the time and energy to monitor their bills and be prepared to waste time arguing. read more

Prescription was never called in, referral for PT was never sent and three (3) requests for a call back were made (in person and via automated message). One (1) week later, no return calls to date. My son is still unable to start PT without a referral. This is UNACCEPTABLE for any professional office and service. Background: We recently had an appointment with Dr. Schafer for my sons injury. We waited approx three (3) hours after leaving to pick up his prescription (CVS). Upon arrival, there was no prescription called in or on file. We returned 2 hours later, still no prescription called in. We then returned to the CVS the next day (24 hrs later). No prescription on file. I attempted to call the office three (3) times from the CVS without being able to speak to a representative in person. The phone lines were either transferred and/ or recordings received. We drove back to the Coastal Orthopedics and inquired about the prescription in person. The representative at the desk called the Doctors assistant. We were then told that it may be another 40 minutes before being called in. This, again, 24 hrs later. Due to a scheduled flight, we had to leave. Prior to leaving, I left my cell number requesting that Dr. Schafer call me. As of today, one week later, I still have not received a call back from either Dr. Schafer or anyone within the practice. In addition, there is no exam information and/ or documentation on my son's profile upon logging in. It lists one (1) medication, the same medication that was never called in. Again, unacceptable. My husband had 2 knee replacements 6 months apart. Both are physically and mechanically fine, but he is in constant chronic pain . Coastal has written him off with no interest or recommendations for the next steps . They do not care that his pain is persistent and debilitating. My dad had 2 major spine surgeries and we can't thank them enough how great Dr Eric Sundberg is. He is very caring and knowledgeable. Excellent overall. Dr Alan Valadie saw my dad for evaluation for his knee, because it's bone on bone, he suggested and my dad agreed on getting his left knee replaced soonest. Got the schedule for his surgery next month. I heard great things about Dr Sundberg, and Dr Alan Valadie. Used to work as home health PT, got referrals from Coastal Orthopedic and saw patients with TKR, THP and spine surgeries done by these wonderful doctors Dr Eric Sundberg and Dr Alan Valadie, had awesome outcomes. I really recommend my dad to see them. My husband, my dad (patient) and I are really happy and pleased with them. Even Dr Laura Ottaviani was so good too, recommended my dad to get examined by Dr Sundberg for emergency surgery for his neck. Overall, I am grateful for them, for taking good care of my dad. Just had surgery again for a different issue, Carpal Tunnel this time at their new surgery center. This is practice is the best orthopedic practice from initial contact with administrative staff as well as all medical staff, and those surgical nurses are awesome! They are all thorough and so accommodating. I also had a very successful back surgery with Dr. Sundberg, L5-S1 fusion 2017. I can't say enough about Coastal Orthopedic other than they are thee best. I have recommended many from Sun City Center to Coastal and just hopefully they listen. At least 2 neighbors of mine had unsuccessful surgeries from other practices that Coastal repaired, so just save your time and go to Coastal initially. read more

Had surgery appt for 10/17 with Dr Boyette. Called the day of surgery and they said they had to cancel because they don't have all the paper work needed. No one called and told me they needed for paper work. Gloria dropped the ball on this. 100% will never use this doctor in the future. You're only as good as your staff. Dr Alan Valarie did hip replacement 12/15/23 and since the beginning I complained of severe trauma to my thigh and even asked him to investigate, He did a cursory MRI and said everything was fine, Here we are 9/1/24 and I can't walk upright still, Had trauma and nerve damage and Coastal Orthopedics dismissed me as 'done'. Appointments were canceled without communication 4 times in 6 months. Contrarily, I actually received text and email confirmations for the appointments which I had to answer. They were quick to remind me about how I'd be charged if I were ever be be a no-show. On the other hand, the staff were always friendly and the bad news of cancellation was delivered by friendly receptionists upon my arrival. After putting up with all that, Coastal Orthopedics shut down the part of the clinic I needed for my treatment. This was after waiting two months for the scheduler to call me to get in for a procedure. I could have sought an MD for treatment elsewhere but instead, my pain was prolonged. I had some pain in my left knee and went through the process of getting approval for an X-Ray and MRI which revealed a meniscus tear. I first saw Dr Schafer and received a cortisone shot which only lasted about a week before the pain started to come back again. We then scheduled to have Arthroscopy Partial Medial Meniscectomy surgery. I must admit talking with friends and co-workers that had the procedure I was a little nervous hearing both sides of the recovery process good and very bad. The surgical team (Debbie RN, ERIK CST, Jill CRNA) were great and kept me relaxed before the surgery. The phlebotomist (Alexandria) had some issues establishing the IV in my right hand and switched to the left which worked much better for the all-important Propofol (Milk of Anastasia). The surgery lasted about 20 minutes and took about an 1.5 hours with all the prep and recovery time. I was able to put weight on the knee right after the surgery (Pain Blockers injected in the knee) and putting weight on after 2 days. The Post Op went well with Holly PA-C (very funny and nice to talk with) and was surprised at my account of feeling no pain and being able to walk normal again. Holly also provided great pictures of the before and after the procedures and explained what was accomplished during the procedure. The PT staff was great, Jerome explained what was done to my knee and what I need to accomplish at the facility/ home exercises. I finished up my PT on 6/27 exactly two weeks after the surgery and the knee feels great. I was very active before the surgery which helped considerable with the quick recovery. The reason I gave them a 4 on the rating is because of their terrible portal scheduling and billing. I had to call and talk to a person to change an appointment and learned to pay my bills at the facility due to issues with the portal bill payments. I would highly recommend Costal orthopedic the staff is very friendly, professional, and really cared about me during the whole process. read more

To anyone looking for a surgeon for a broken foot/ankle, please read this review: I had an appointment at Coastal Orthopedics at their West Bradenton office on 3/30th at 3:40pm for a broken ankle. We got to see Dr O'Daly by about 5:00pm. Since we were being seen so close to the end of their day, the staff was notably chaotic. Dr O'Daly, also notably chaotic and rushing, came into our room and gave very little detail on what was needed outside of "you need surgery". When asking my questions, on multiple occasions, he gave little detail and said, "you will be fine". The team rushed me over to the technician who put a VERY heavy "splint" on (very much like an open cast). Once the splint was on, I was told by the surgery scheduler, Jessica, that I was scheduled for 15 days out, April 14th. The reason I was given was that "Dr O'Daly was out-of-office next week". I told her that I was very worried about waiting so long for surgery and asked if there was another surgeon that could do my surgery; her answer was "well, I don't do his schedule". The very heavy splint kept me up all night long, causing so much pain. I was not able to move the leg at all, as the ankle would get shooting pain due to the heavy weight of the splint. Due to some very good luck, I was able to get into 360 Orthopedics the very next morning at 10am. (3/31st). In the meeting with this surgeon, who was a board certified DPM (which I've learned is a specialist in podiatry, unlike an MD who can do surgeries on various bones). Contrary to what Dr O'Daly said, it is important to have surgery as soon as possible for recovery. Additionally, this DPM immediately removed the very excessive "splint" and replaced it with a simple compression sock to be used with a boot that could be removed while in bed. My surgery with 360 Orthopedics was yesterday, 4/6th. To think that Coastal Orthopedics was going to keep me in that very painful, heavy splint for 15 days to wait for surgery is very alarming. Also, Dr O'Daly said that I would have 2 incisions on either sides of my ankle. Since my surgeon was a specialist and NOT a MD, I have 1 incision. Here is my feedback to Coastal Orthopedics: 1. When someone tells your employee that they would like a manager to call them to provide constructive feedback, call them, as then we have no way to give you a chance to fix the situation and have to post on Google to protect other potential patients. It's been over a week and no one has called after I asked Jessica on 3/31st. 2. Out of 19 doctors, all of which are MDs, it's time to get a DPM in your practice. No one wants their ankle surgeon rushing you off to get to a "98 year old who needs a hip replacement" (per Dr O'Daly) 3. Given that your staff was rushing and in such chaos, I think it's time to assess how you are doing business. It was quite obvious that your staff, including the doctor, is over worked and burned out. There were too many mistakes in the 2 hours that we were there. I feel terrible for people working in this condition, and I feel that management needs to figure out how to take care of patients AND STAFF better. Maybe schedule less patients until you can get more staff. 4. Educate your technicians on what type of splinting/casting is needed. You were very wrong with me. 5. Stop trying to fit patients into doctor's schedules and do what is right for the patient. As I sit here post surgery on 4/7th, thinking that I would have to wait an entire week longer in my previous condition is a nightmare. 6. Coast Orthopedics (from the doctor to all the staff), how dare you care for people like this when they are in such a vulnerable state? This visit was not worth the $200 I was charged, and I would like a refund. read more

Went to Coastal and Dr. Constant for spinal pain. Major reduction in one visit. Dr. Constant and his staff in particular Memory Smith were awesome. On my way to Coastal Orthopedics today for a procedure with sedation. Ten minutes from their facility I receive a call that the anesthesiologist declined my sedation. because of my heart ejection fraction. I have had the same ejection fraction for 30 some odd years since a heart attack. Mind you I have had the same procedure at Coastal on multiple occasions over the past 10 years. I guess Dr. Constant didn't want to step up and support me. He just went along with the position of their new anesthesiologist. I also had to fight maddening traffic to get to their facility. Beware of your bills!! Dr. O'Daly was great! BUT...watch your bills and don't pay ANYTHING until you have an EOB from your insurance company. Twice they billed it as my husband being the patient. Both times it was denied because he is on Medicare and I'm not and we have different policy numbers. Called to straighten it out and the person (off shore billing company) was so rude and wouldn't listen, I gave up and had to call BCBS to straighten it out. They say I have a balance and they straightened it all out and had to re-bill two times to get it right. But...I've never received a bill in the mail from them and this goes back to April. Many hours into this on the phone and lots of frustration. read more
