I bought brand new weld v series wheels, had them sent to macfab to get a set of double beadlocks from them done and then they were sent to coating Specialty to have the barrels powder coated gloss black. The price originally was gonna be $100 per barrel ($200), plus a disassembly, reassembly fee, and then shipping and insurance, which was fine. They never called me when the wheels arrived, they only called me when they were done and ready to ship out. On that day, the price magically dropped to $184.xx and Bob the owner said 'yeah we hooked you up!' And I said 'thank you I really appreciate it sir!' and then they were shipped to me. Once they arrived I opened the first box (the boxes and insulation and all was the same packaging used from when weld sent them to macfab btw, and it was all sealed up nice and safe) and the first thing I notice is a chipped beadlock ring that was 'touched up' with a black sharpie!!! The beadlocks were already powder coated black from macfab by the way.....but I took tons of photos before even taking the wheel out of the box and then called Coating Specialty and contacted macfab beadlocks right away and left a voicemail (since it was Sunday) and told them to call me back. Macfab told me they would never send out their rings like that and if there was ever an issue they would send it back to the powder coater to get redone and that it had to be the powder coater mishandling the beadlock rings when they were either disassembling and reassembling the wheels....So then, I got no call back Monday (the next day) and had to call again Tuesday and explain it all again like I did on the voicemail. I was then told that Bob the owner wasn't there today and that he would call me in a couple days and would take care of me. I explained that I needed the ring re-powdered (would actually need both rings re-done because I want them to be the same gloss black color) and that I needed it done this week tho because the wheels need to be mounted and balanced and taken to the chassis shop so they can start on my car and chassis. And being that I live in Maryland they wouldn't be able to get the rings done that quickly so I said I'm gonna have someone else do them that's semi local and will have them back to me rather quickly and could I get credited back money on my credit card for having to pay to get the rings re done and the guy on the phone told me 'yeah bob will take care of you and work that out with you!' And I said thank you. This call happened on Tuesday and bob didn't call me back all week. Then it was Memorial Day weekend (this past Monday) so I called the Tuesday after and bob had already left for the day. He finally called me yesterday (Wednesday) and this is what he told me........
'The chips on the beadlock ring were already there when we got the wheels in', so I said 'why didn't you call me and tell me?' And all he said was 'hindsight is 20/20 Chris'. And then I said 'So you're saying you saw these chips when you got the wheels and then thought it was a good idea to take a black sharpie and attempt to cover up and touch up the chips?? How is that acceptable?' And he said 'Well as far as I'm concerned that was a courtesy, using a sharpie'......ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?? So using a sharpie to hide powder coat chips is a courtesy now? And all he kept saying was 'hindsight is 20/20 Chris, hindsight is 20/20'. I told him I spent $180 total on the new rings to be powder coated ($55 for shipping and $125 for the job) and he said 'wow they really shoved it in your ass for $125!! That's a $20 dollar job for the 2 rings!!' So if it was only a $20 dollar job why wouldn't they have called me and told me my wheels showed up with a chipped beadlock ring? Or, if they accidentally chipped the ring, why didn't they just go ahead and fix it the right way since it's just a $20 dollar job and they could've tacked that onto the total price and I wouldn't even have known the wiser.
What blows my mind the most is what powder coating shop (who literally specializes in powder coating!!!) would think its acceptable and fine to use a black sharpie to cover up powder coating chips!! Bob told me he wouldn't credit me back any money since the deal he gave me was so good to begin with (and no wonder it was such a 'great deal' because they chipped my ring and then colored the chips in with a sharpie, yeah what a great deal. He told me the only thing he would do for me is if I ever have or need anything else powder coated to call him and he can give me a deal....yeah that's exactly what I want, to send parts off my nice car to get powder coated by a place that uses a sharpie to touch up chips instead of actually fixing shit the right way and they're known as a powder coating company!!!! Wtf??
I would never recommend these guys, it's the first and last time I will ever use them. I highly recommend anyone to find and use a different company to powder coat their parts, unless they like sharpie touch up. read more
