Little Horse Tavern opened on Monday 12/15/25 at The Cobbs Creek Golf and Educational Campus. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. There are many pictures and murals representing the history of Cobbs Creek and the Philadelphia area. We were greeted when we arrived and given the choice of tables. We chose one that overlooked the driving range. We started with the Range Basket which has four chicken fingers and many onion rings. It was the right size for four to share as an appetizer. Their guacamole is also excellent, and the best I've had. I like the way they add corn to it which creates a nice crunch. For dinner, we had the Smash Burger, the Hot Dog, and the Huerache Pizza. Everything was delicious. There's a full bar. They serve Coke products. Sydney was our server. She was friendly and attentive. We look forward to many more meals at Little Horse Tavern. It is named for Charlie Sifford. He was the first Black golfer to earn a PGA Tour Card in 1961. Little Horse was Charlie's nickname on the PGA Tour. read more

Cobb's Creek is a challenging layout which is minimally maintained. The greens are in acceptable condition but are on the slow side. Tee boxes and fairways leave a lot to be desired. I recently moved to the area and played the course about three weeks ago for the first time. My impression was that this could be an outstanding track if only it was taken better care of. There are some very easy holes, but there are some very challenging ones, too - especially on the back nine. I'd play here again, but wouldn't pay more than $40 to do so. Word on the street is that a major league overhaul is coming in the near future. That's quite exciting...I'll stay tuned! read more

Went September 2020 and didn't have the best experience but staff was very accommodating. Waited over 2 hours for a cart ... but was told it was due to the fact that carts were sent out to another course to use but still, they should have had enough for the people coming. Staff gave us complimentary drinks as we waited. When we finally got cart holes 3 to about 7 were not kept up as nicely as expected, but rest of holes were nice. Hopefully next time we go it's in better shape as they said they were redoing the course. If you are looking for a course close to Philly, I suggest looking somewhere else for the time being until they are back on track. read more

Meh. I always preface golf course reviews with the caveat that I am NOT that great a golfer. I hit my share of errant shots and generally don't mind "less than Augusta National" conditions. I understand that I'm lucky to play at a course that is on par with my playing ability. That said, Cobbs Creek is pretty subpar. Ive only played the Karakung course, (the "olde" course looks to be IMMEASURABLY better) so thats what I'll be talking about. First, this entire course seems OLD. The carts are like Model T's with cranks on the front. (I'm exaggerating, but not by much.) The course is not marked in ANY reasonable way and the layout is just weird. There is one hole that is LITERALLY along the side of a busy road. My friend sliced his tee shot, and I SWEAR, the hand of god was the only thing that stopped him from killing some guy driving his pickup down the road. Seriously, it was a Pulp Fiction moment. I'm talking, STRAIGHT off the tee, laser guided for this guys windshield, and somehow missed. I can only imagine how many cars have been dinged. If you do not have ABSOLUTE control of your drive, I wouldn't even PLAY this hole. About the course conditions, theyre pretty terrible. The "fairways" are SUUUUUUPER wide, which is cool, but they are not even mowed. There is NO discernable difference between the fairway and the second cut, or even the fairway and the rough. Even perfectly hit drives just die on the "fairway" because the grass is WAY too high to allow it to roll. Like someone else pointed out, there are MANY blind shots, where you just have to estimate the right direction, hit it as hard as you can and hope you're right. A couple of holes, we actually had a scout team ride ahead to report back on where the hole actually was. We played here because we got a good deal on golfnow, but I just can't imagine paying ANY more than the $25 I paid to play here. read more

I had fun to be honest, but the Kerakung 18 was a terrible course overall. Conditions were almost indefinitely the worst I have ever seen. The old course looked much better and probably worth the difference in price. Why so bad? Noting that quality comments are meant for Kerakung specifically... Dead grass everywhere except the greens. Mediocre golf carts, little to no tee time planning/starter, no sand traps at all, inconsistent tee box markings (that were way in front of the whites in order to "save the tee boxes for next year",) no beverage cart, hole 9 doesn't being you back to the clubhouse, building where you pay is falling apart/smells, and generally not challenging (and that's coming from me...I'm terrible!). Almost zero sand...though I'm typically so good at finding it that it was kind of nice for a while... The good? Very cheap, and the greens were actually pretty good. They are clearly the main focus... Taking the kids out? Maybe a good option for those with low expectations or those still learning to play. Course was in surprisingly good condition, but had a number of things that are just completely unacceptable: 1. No water on any of the holes. Played this past weekend w/ temperature pushing 90, only brought one bottle of water assuming there would be some on the course. There was none, and was on the verge of collapse by hole 9 thanks to the temperature / lack of water. 2. No food / beverage cart Otherwise, good value and convenient to Philadelphia. read more

Went here for a memorial event and found it to be very nice for what it is. Didnt play golf that day, but have in the past. Staff was nice, clubhouse was under construction but the temporary place was just fine. Saw an Eagles Golf bag I was interested in getting. Had a coupel Blue Moon beers from a can. The driving range was weak. That's one serious critcism and a star off on the rating. Not maintaied and find balls to tee off on, this was a very poor thing to see at what is otherwise a respectable golf course. read more

Not one of my favorite courses to play on. Not really worth the $30 to play 18 holes. The bunkers are terrible and have weeds coming out of them. Tee boxes are not well kept at all, cart paths are bumpy with rocks and holes in them and the carts themselves are hard to turn. The rough is pretty high and it's easy to lose your ball due to the surrounding woods on almost every hole. Still nice to get out and play but this course wouldn't be my first option. read more

This course is worth the $25 to play 18 holes, there's no doubt about that. The course is in bad condition, but I've played on many courses that were only marginally better but double the price which is what makes this course worth it. Fairways are a little rough and very patchy but the nice thing about the course was that despite the generally poor condition, all the greens were in good shape which made the game enjoyable. For a Philly course it's not that bad. For other Philly golfers, this course is in better condition than Walnut Lane and definitely less expensive. I'd recommend giving it a try if you're a student or golfer on a budget. I'm a second year golfer and have played at very nice and poorly maintained courses, and I enjoyed playing here. read more

old course was designed by the same golf architect who designed Marion. Karakung is of the same vintage 1920s. when you golf here you're golfing on courses that are part of not just Philadelphia but golf history. The vistas and views from some of the holes are phenomenal and unbelievable. you can see beautifully some of the most unbelievable views of Cobbs Creek of Philadelphia of 69 street terminal and if you close your eyes you can imagine yourself to be back in the 1930s or 40s. yes the course is a little rundown and yes it's not as well-maintained as it should be but golfing here is not about that it's about a journey into the past to quote Neil Young. read more

We played the Karakung course today. As Beth K. said, I'm sure at one point it was really nice. There are some pretty vistas and landscaping, and you don't really feel like you are in the city. But, the course is in terrible shape. The grass was completely clogged with clover and weeds, and very brown. The fairways were so dry and unkempt that when the ball hit, it would bounce and roll in completely unpredictable ways. Because some of the holes are blind when you're teeing off, this made for an inordinate amount of time spent searching for balls. I'm a beginner, but my partner shoots in the low eighties and has played a lot--he said it was the worst course he's played on in his whole life. Some other specific issues: the lack of women's tees. The scorecard suggests that they exist, but they were nowhere to be found. You have to drive your cart across very busy roads multiple times. Cart paths were flooded, nonexistant, or extremely potholed. Some tee boxes were so worn down that there was no grass at all for about five feet. You also had to drive behind the driving range (which has no net) to get from one hole to the next. Little scary. Finally, random people just kept walking, jogging, and riding carts through our fairways. It was the strangest experience I have ever had playing golf. We did appreciate the extremely friendly staff, and the Olde course, which runs alongside much of Karakung, looks much nicer. It was also extremely cheap ($22 per person including the cart). No bathrooms or food on the course--and the turn is nowhere near the clubhouse--so be prepared! read more

A great course which is both challenging and fun, you can't beat the pricing for a golf course that demands both length and accuracy in order to score well. Although it gets a lot of play, it's in great shape and actually is one of Philadelphia's gems. I noticed a few other reviews from years past that panned this place so, obviously, the management has turned it around here and should be commended. I've golfed here thrice, all within the last two months, with one appearance on the Karakung and two showings on the Olde Course. Why they would only call one "olde" is beyond me, because the entire place is like the Boca Raton of the main line; arrive after 9AM and DO NOT expect to finish a round in under 4 hours. Nothing against these geriatrics trying to stay healthy and get the yard work in, especially because most of them play much better than I do or ever will, but good lord they are sloooooooooooow. Painfully slow. Thank jebus for designated drivers and my ever present and well stocked cooler, else my ears might have bled from exasperation. They have a starter occasionally, though he didn't seem to do much; I'd advise asking to join other twosome or threesomes on you're own if you're flying solo or close to it, else you could be waiting in line for a while, and once you start it will be easy to outpace those septuagenarians anywho. That is really the only complaint I have about this course. The olde course is by far my favorite of the two; It has a more difficult layout and much tougher greens, most of which are frustratingly sloped and fast to boot (damn you hole 2! My brother and I both cursed the golf gods as chip after putt, after chip, after putt rolled off the green. Best get it in the hole or just take the double par and be done with it). Wide lanes and a few long tee shots mean you can gets some driver and wood work in, but there are also a couple par threes so you can place closest to the pin wagers. Karakung is an okay course that I liken to Walnut lane, only without the difficulty of narrow lanes surrounded by forest, and it also has the added advantage of longer tee shots. They do a cool program here wherein you pay a one-time fee of something like $27, and for the rest of the year you can golf the Karakung for $22 an outing, or get 10% off on the Olde Course. As to past reviewers' complaints, the grass seems to be in much better shape (except for the tee boxes on the Karakung, many of which are still bald), though that could have more to do with Mother Nature and her early spring than anything the Cobbs' folk have done. Still no cart paths for a lot of the K. course, but that is a triviality; if you can figure out how to get from tee to pin, you can figure out where to drive ( best bet if you can't is to drive by the 90° rule: drive in the rough along side the lane until you reach your ball, make a 90° turn and go to your ball, then cruise straight off and make another 90° to continue on your way). Still no water jugs out on the course, so i say pack your own bevies (even thought they prohibit coolers), but we did pass a beer girl twice per round each time out. I like Cobbs', but I think I will only come back on those cool, dreary, and otherwise arthritis inflaming miserable days, or if there is a Matlock marathon on, because those factors would probably up the rating to a four star establishment. read more

I gew up playing Cobbs Creek and started playing at the age of 15. The front nine is on the short side and extreamly difficult. There's water on most of the holes which leaves no room for error. The back nine is the total oppisite its long and hilly. I've played all over the USA and I still have the best of memories playing there. If your thinking about playing ITS A MUST. The course is disappointing because of what it COULD be. Others have commented on grass-less tee boxes, agree! With some better maintenance this place could be nice. Rather than have a Marshall stand at the first tee and tell you about every hole, maybe have him drive around and MOVE THE SLOW GROUPS. Pace of play was awful. read more

Billy Casper Golf Management started managing Cobb's Creek a couple of years ago. I have played here several times in the past, and I was hopeful that Billy Casper would turn this place around. Unfortunately, it seems that all the new management did was put a bunch of personnel in light blue polo shirts and raise rates. They certainly did nothing to make the course any better. Seriously, there were four guys in blue polo shirts at the front desk. I have no idea what three of them did, as only one was taking payments. My friend and I played the Olde Course yesterday and the course is in worse shape than it has ever been. On a positive note, the fairways were not weed-infested like they have been in the past. But that's faint praise indeed. Outside of the fairways, the course is a mess. Some patches are hard dirt, others are ridiculously overgrown, while other spots seemingly combine a potpourri of weeds. So, you get a lot of tough lies because you're playing out of a small pit around a bunch of weeds. I guess that makes the course "tough"? A lot of the trees have become overgrown, so that they hang into your playing path. This is fine. We should have to negotiate trees, but I don't think the course management should let them grow so wild that some tee shots become almost unfair. Many of tee boxes were not grass, but hard dirt. This is in the middle of the golf season, mind you. Often, I could not insert my tee into the hard dirt and several times I could not remove my tee after hitting my shot. My impression is that course management, besides the fairways, does very little to maintain the course. It's a shame because the Olde Course could be a nice little track if it were given some care. Billy Casper Management maintains some 100 daily fee courses. It seems that their business plan consists of uniforming the staff and raising rates. So, to reiterate, Cobb's Creek is just as bad as it's ever been, but now it costs more to play. read more

The only reason Cobbs Creek got a one star is because you have to rate it! I am not sure where to begin. I arrived as a single player on a Saturday and they were out of carts. Had to walk which was fine. There was an Outing on the Olde Course so I Went out on Karakong which there is no definition on Webster.com. My definition would be dirt pasture with a green landing area with a flags. I have played a lot of courses across the country some for a lot less money and this is by far the WORST COURSE IN THE COUNTRY. What a piece of crap. PLEASE PLEASE TAKE MY WORD ON THIS ONE. You are better off buying 3 buckets of balls and hitting them off the mat for $27. WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! Piece of shit. This course makes Westover look like a TPC course in Scottsdale. Oh yeah did I say piece of shit. There is not much more that I can say than stay clear of the Karakung course at all cost. read more

Where do I start?....So my group of 4 had a tee-time for 11:30am a few weeks ago on a Saturday. They did not have any large buckets left for the driving range...After the driving range we arrived to the staging area to get a golf cart at about 11:15...Upon our arrival, there were 2 other groups ahead of us waiting there....What were they waiting for exactly? Golf Carts. There were literally 0 golf carts for any of the waiting groups because a tournament was going on. The course continued to take all reservations for that day, knowing there was a large tournament going on... So after 45 minutes of waiting around for golf carts, we decided to walk the course, and when we decided to walk the course, so did everyone waiting. So now people with earlier tee times went ahead of us. More waiting around, we ended up starting around 12:30-12:45. No real remorse or sympathy from management or any workers for waiting around an hour after tee times, without the cart we payed for..... Fast forward to hole 5, they are shuttling carts out (bring 2 out, leave 1 and so on)...They brought one of our foursome's cart , dropped it off, and continued to take the key back with them to the club house. Another hole went by and they realized their mistake and brought the key back.... If it wasn't for the disaster of an operations and planning team, the course was decent. The true embodiment of the statement "You Get What You Pay For" was employed that day... After that incident, me and my party will never go back to Cobb's Creek. read more

I've golfed at Karakung many times before, and have enjoyed myself because I knew what I was getting. Yesterday I decided to golf the "Olde" course for the first time ever. I commend GolfPhilly.com for creating a brand with the 4 or so courses under their umbrella, but golfing the best course out of the group, I might have had my expectations too high. With the price for a round at $51, I was led to believe that maybe this was a solid course, and a hidden gem of sorts. Not the case. Many things went wrong, but the first part is the fact that they jam foursomes into that place like sardines. It took us over 5 hours to play this round. Every single hole, there was a wait on the tee box. What made that point more tough to handle was the fact that the clueless course ranger had the audacity to approach our group after teeing off and told us to pick up the pace. He argued with us that we were holding everyone up, when all he had to do was drive around the dog leg to the green of the hole we were on, to see a 2 foursome wait on the next hole. If he had done his job, he would have continued to drive through the course to see that the log jam was not caused by any one foursome, but just the incompetence of the greedy management to get as much money as possible. I have never been in an argument with a course ranger in my life, and when he was proven wrong I expected some sort of wave or acknowledgement, but he was too lazy to do that as well. I knew going in that this wasn't a high level golf course, so I wasn't expecting a Glen Mills type of experience, but once I paid $51 I had the hope of a decent course. After all, this is only $8 less than Springfield Country club, and $10 less than Paxon Hallow, 2 very well kept, high level golf courses in the area. This was not the case. I think the major problem is how inconsistent it is. On one hole, you'd think you were playing at a normal course, but another it felt like you were hitting out of the right field of a little league baseball field. Sand? Expect your clubs to be scratched up from the horribly kept sand traps. The way the course of designed, you make all these confusing twists and turns just to get to the next hole, I felt like the guy who designed it was blind. (WOW he created Merion??!! Case and point that even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes) Some tee boxes didn't have any markings on them, so you were just hoping that you were on the right hole. It seemed like a joke towards the end. To sum up how I feel about my round at the Olde Course, I'm going to play here in the future as many times as there are places to stop half way through for a hot dog; zero. read more

More like 3.5 stars. Cobbs is in the best shape I've ever seen it in and I've been playing here for many years. The greens are in good shape. Bunkers and fairways are good. Tee boxes need some work. You can get some great deals on golfnow for under 30 bucks. It's 23 for twilight rate during the weak which is a steal. It's always been a fun layout and pretty challenging. If someone would dump a lot of money into it it would be a really special place that people would drive to see. Glad to see it in such good shape after years of neglect. read more

I'll start with the one positive, the scenery is beautiful on the Olde Course. In the woods and near the streams for most of it, which also means, bring plenty of balls. After hitting our second shot on the first hole, we went to get back in the cart. It wouldn't move. We were in the middle of the fairway and were literally pushing the cart back over to the cart path. Luckily, the starter could still see us and drove out. He said the cart was out of gas. I assume when carts are turned back in, basic things are done like getting the trash out and filling up the tank. Apparently none of that is done here. I couldn't imagine if this had happened a few holes in, because after the second hole, you are in the backwoods and not close to anything. Tthe course is very poorly marked. As a woman, I typically play from the red tees. But they were so poorly marked, I ended up shooting from the whites for most of the round. The yardage markers on the scorecard are a joke so you can't go by that to figure out where they should be. Occassionally I would tee off and as we were driving by I would see the red tees. Definitely can't see them from other tee boxes as their markers sit about two inches off the ground. My other biggest issue with this course is there zero bathrooms anywhere. And you don't come anywhere close to the clubhouse except when you're done. When I finished and asked the attedent at the front desk what was the expectation if a woman has to use the restroom while on the course, was she expected to drive through the rest of the course back to the clubhouse? His answer was at the 8th hole there is a path you can take to get to the driving range (that is owned by another company) and use their public restroom. First of all, that their answer was to use another establishment's facilities was a joke. And secondly, how is anyone supposed to know that? He actually tried to make it sound like it was my fault that I didn't ask the front desk where the restrooms were when I checked in. He went on to insist that it's rather common to not have restrooms (even port-o-potties) on the course. I've never seen that, but also, if they don't have port-o-potties, the turn takes you by the clubhouse. Bottom line, I get the impression that this course doesn't really expect women to be playing on it. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I live very close to this course and was hoping that new management might make it worth playing on a regular basis; not just because of proximity, but also because it really has the potential to be an interesting course. My understanding is that the Olde course hosted a major way back when and used to be considered one of the better municipal courses in the country. After most of the course dwindled next to nothing, feeble attempts were made to at least get some players in the door. Then Billy Casper Management took over management and it seemed like Philadelphia would actually have a respectable muni once again. Unfortunately, it doesn't look promising. Almost nothing has changed. There are more workers in the club house, but I have no idea what they do since it still took a few minutes for someone to man the grill area. They certainly are not part of the groundskeeping crew, as the course is in very bad shape. Many holes have a very small fairway up to a green, but these fairways are tiny and narrow. Maybe you could argue that part of the challenge is trying to keep your ball on a smaller fairway; that would be fine except there is no concept of a rough here. Rough, or off fairway, is or should be more than just overgrown weeds, dirt mixed with gravel, and/or crabgrass. Rough still needs to be maintained or created to some extent, but here, it is completely ignored. Most of the holes are played on sidehills, so you need your tee shot to actually start off fairway and roll on. You can't do that here since the rough is non existent. So really, there are some holes you cannot hit the fairway with any type of tee shot. I would say that this makes the course unplayable. The bunkers vary from puddles of mud to some that are ok. The tee boxes are the worst I've ever seen. There is no grass on most of them, just bare dirt. The greens are average, I mean, they are not dirt and have some grass on them, and are very slow. I didn't really an issue with them though. Generally, this course is not worth playing for the amount they charge. That is disappointing for me personally, but I'd rather make the trip to further away courses for a better experience and the same green fees. My main complaint is that something must be done about all of the off-fairway areas. There really is no excuse to completely ignore these areas. Any course where recovery shots and scrambling can't be considered is unplayable. A lot more grass and fescue needs to be installed to cure this. I only hope that Casper figures this out and takes care of it. With the fees they charge, I have no idea what they're doing with the money they're currently making. read more
