My first complaint is that they were served in plastic cups-that's one of my pet peeves. I had a Fajita Quesadilla with chicken from the special menu that was very good. It came with rice & refried beans. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals. We were not rushed and the service was fine. My second complaint-we were not able to get separate checks. This made it very difficult to figure out what everyone owed. Three people paid with credit cards-the rest of us in cash. We all agreed that we would not return because of this major inconvenience. This is too bad because the food & drinks were really good. The atmosphere is typical for a Mexican restaurant. Plenty of seating in several rooms and the bar area. There was a DJ playing music. There is plenty of parking in a shared lot. I guess if you don't mind my complaints, La Carreta is an acceptable place to go for Mexican food.

First, the owner and one that is running the show is a very knowledgeable and is a very approachable resource when it comes to different spirits and different styles in the N/A world of booze free fares. She comes from the brewing industry, so her knowledge and connections through that area really helps in breaking through in this part of the industry that is definitely growing and gaining momentum. Second, the selections are great here. We picked up a 6 pack of N/A Grapefruit white along with the blood orange IPA from Bravus and lastly a Hazy IPA that really has the body and flavor of a hoppy beer. We also had a sample of some herbaceous Gin replacement with some tonic water and it was spectacular as well. We drove all the way down from Scarborough, ME to check this place out and then took in the sights and beauty of the coastal town of Portsmouth. Instead of feeling welcomed, you get the impression that you're inconveniencing them by even walking in. Accuracy is another issue. Even the simplest drink orders come out wrong far too often. When you stop in for something quick, you shouldn't have to double-check everything before leaving especially the size of the drink. It also doesn't help that the music inside is so loud that the staff can barely hear a customer placing an order. Turning it down even a little would go a long way toward improving communication and avoiding mistakes. This location has potential, but between the unwelcoming attitude, in my opinion the wrong side of route 114, the loud environment, and the regular order errors, it really needs serious improvement before it becomes a place worth returning to. Several other AJ locations seem to be slipping the last year or so. Maybe expansion happened too fast or they just want to be like other coffee shops that couldn't care less what drink they give to you.
