This is an upscale market/deli in Harvard Square. It's a competitor with Cardullo's which is also in the Square, but Wholesome Fresh specializes more in Korean/Asian items whereas Cardullo's specializes more in Italian/European items. Between the two of them, you're pretty well covered in Harvard Square in terms of gourmet and import products. It's worth noting that Wholesome Fresh does carry many British/Swiss/European imports and not just Korean/Asian. However, it's also worth noting that Wholesome Fresh is NOT open 24 hours anymore. They open at 8:00 am and close at 10:00 pm which I will provide photographic proof of.

Specialty grocery plus deli a la Cardullo's, with a bonus hot and cold bar, ramen station, sushi and build-your-own poke bowls! Ten bucks gets you the latter, a filling feast of nearly unlimited veg, a single protein (including cooked chicken?), a sauce and regional accoutrement like Benito fish flake, masago, edamame and roasted seaweed over a base of rice, greens or zoodles! What a literal and figurative mouthful! Everything was fresh and clean, crunchy, crisp and all that jazz. The sauce sesame shoyu was a bit mild, and the whole bowl could have benefited from a little richness, but as far as a turnkey salads with a hearty helping of pink tuna, this corner store on steroids gives good poke!

TONS of international groceries/snacks/drinks. Vegan and gluten free options as well. Sushi made on premesis, a ramen station with toppings you can choose from, poke bowls, hot and cold sandwiches made from Boars head deli meats and cheeses, and a hot/cold food bar. Unique place, not your average deli convenient store!! Catering available as well. UPDATE!! GIFT BASKETS now available. Choose your own products from the store and request to make a basket, buy pre made baskets, or request a themed basket!! Can be any size and is perfect for any occasion

I wanted to try something I've never had before, so I ordered their Cape Cod Reuben, made with freshly fried haddock. I was so surprised, it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. A vanishing legend, 1919-2026. But this was my first time being here…read more Corned Beef Reuben: The beef slices were very thin, so there's not much texture or juice; it was like supermarket ham slices. The bread was ordinary; it wasn't toasted with butter, so the aroma was significantly reduced, but the sauce prevented it from being dry. The pickles weren't too sour, and the coleslaw was refreshing and sweet, which I liked. Pastrami Reuben: Completely different from the pastrami I had in Philadelphia. This is more like a reduced-salt version of bacon slices--firmer and oilier, but still quite fragrant. S&S Wings: Signature chicken wings. The sauce was very generous, creating a strong sweet and sour flavor. The fermented flavor of the blue cheese sauce was also very strong. It might be a bit too heavy for my taste. But the meat was tender, and the batter was still a bit crispy, which was interesting. Egg Benedict: A classic breakfast; a soft-boiled egg can't be bad. However, the potato chunks were totally unseasoned, and the hollandaise sauce was ridiculously sour. Potato Pancakes: A unique recipe. I expected something like hash browns or thin shredded potato pancakes, but they were surprisingly thick. They were fried to a fragrant perfection, soft and chewy inside but with a hard crust. The sour cream wasn't sour enough, and the apple sauce was sweet; I couldn't really accept dipping them in it... Blueberry Pancakes: Blueberries were directly added to the pancakes, a first for me. However, the pancakes had a rather rough texture, and I didn't understand why the sweet ones were paired with sausage (or bacon). The sausage was firm, with a strong ginger flavor--very addictive! It's worth mentioning that many toppings/sauces, such as potato chips, honey, and butter, were just pre-made, sometimes without even being unpacked, which felt rather perfunctory. In short: Huge portions, decent taste, worth trying for nostalgia. However, perhaps due to the recent surge in customers, the staff was overwhelmed, resulting in a less than ideal service experience, especially the long wait for seating and ordering (even with a reservation). Those who mind should think twice before going.

My first time in was with a friend to grab a slice of their chocolate cake. She was raving about it all night and it lived up to the hype. The cake is firm but moist and fudgy. Second time, I stopper by on a whim for a slice of pizza. I got cheese and bacon ranch. The slices were delicious. I have been on a hunt for a perfect pizza slice, the kind that droops naturally when you lift it and has the perfect sauce to cheese to crust ratio, this was it. Also thought the pricing was reasonable + they have a great rewards program you can sign up for! I am definitely going to be a regulal here moving forward. They're definitely more heavy handed on the sauce, so request light dressing or have it on the side if you're not lots of dressing. I also found the cutlets to be pretty sparse and dry, and the bread was just not good in texture or flavor. Service was fine, it took 20 mins to come out which was longer than I expected, and the space is small but has some seating. I might sound old, but the music was very loud and abrasive, so I didn't finish the other half of the sandwich and left. For $15 it wasn't my kinda sandwich so I probably won't be back.

Italian Sub: $20 for a foot long, the meat was so plentiful it's almost overflowing, enough for two meals. The prisciutto was tender and juicy; the salami was firm and savory with a strong smokiness. Both are thinly sliced, so despite the thick stack, it was relatively easy for a bite. The provolone cheese was also generously portioned, with a robust yet not spicy flavor and a subtle nutty aroma, perfectly complementing the two meats. The olive oil and balsamic vinegar were particularly outstanding: mellow, tangy, and with a fruity aroma of grapes, key to the complex flavor profile. The lettuce, tomatoes, and onions were all fresh, especially the onions were refreshing and a little zingy, perfect for removing the greasiness. Unfortunately, I was worried about not being able to roll it back up properly and making it inconvenient to carry (which it actually happened), so I took it away and ate it at the office. After about 40 minutes, the bread had become somewhat dry and hard.
