This is an upscale market/deli in Harvard Square. It's a competitor with Cardullo's which is also in the Square, but Wholesome Fresh specializes more in Korean/Asian items whereas Cardullo's specializes more in Italian/European items. Between the two of them, you're pretty well covered in Harvard Square in terms of gourmet and import products. It's worth noting that Wholesome Fresh does carry many British/Swiss/European imports and not just Korean/Asian. However, it's also worth noting that Wholesome Fresh is NOT open 24 hours anymore. More like 3 or 3.5 stars​. Okay,​ I have nothing against this place... except that it is too damn pricey. The location is prime, customer service is excellent, and the selection is fantastic. I simply​ cannot afford it. For example, a single banana is $1. The Pacific brand boxed soup is $5.99, I think? While I was making my way through the store, I almost thought I was living in NYC again. Just keep in mind that you are paying for its Harvard Square rent and the convenience​. The hot/cold food bar does seem to have a good value, though. There are some other more affordable grocery store options within a 1-mile radius. Specialty grocery plus deli a la Cardullo's, with a bonus hot and cold bar, ramen station, sushi and build-your-own poke bowls! Ten bucks gets you the latter, a filling feast of nearly unlimited veg, a single protein (including cooked chicken?), a sauce and regional accoutrement like Benito fish flake, masago, edamame and roasted seaweed over a base of rice, greens or zoodles! What a literal and figurative mouthful! Everything was fresh and clean, crunchy, crisp and all that jazz. The sauce sesame shoyu was a bit mild, and the whole bowl could have benefited from a little richness, but as far as a turnkey salads with a hearty helping of pink tuna, this corner store on steroids gives good poke! read more

If you are ever in Harvard Square and want food, wholesome fresh is the way to go. they have everything from candy to poke bowls to fruit. It is by far my favorite store in Harvard Square. The temperature is always perfect in there, it's always nice to sit in there with friends and eat the delicious food while looking out the window. This store should be closed down. First off the food is horrible & the taste leaves a bad taste in your mouth. OSHA should come in & shut this place down. The people preparing the food don't use utensils, instead they use their bare hands. I've witnessed this with my own eyes. I've also witnessed the cooks dropping food on the floor & serving it in the hot bar. The workers barley speak English & they never wash their hands which is required by law. They also over price the food & when questioned they just walk away. Please stay far away from this place for your own good. read more

I'll never step foot in this store again, which is saying something considering I work a few doors down and it's the only grocery store in the Square. It's bad enough that their prices are so high but they don't seem to care at all about their customers. While I was at the self-serve food bar, an employee of the store was getting her lunch and bumped into me, accidentally spilling her food down my back, leaving me with oily salad dressing all down the back of my down coat and tomato sauce down the legs of my pants and all over my shoes. She spoke broken English but basically said, "It's okay. It's just oil," and walked away. I tried to tell her that it wasn't okay, that my clothes would need to be dry cleaned but she shrugged it off. I sought out the manager--an Asian man who said his name was John. His only offer was to take my coat to the back room and wash it off. I told him it needed to be dry cleaned and I hoped the store would offer to cover the cost. He said he would watch the surveillance video to see what really happened and call me back. Given his attitude, I doubted that I was going to hear from him, so I asked for his name and number. In fact, I did not hear from him and called the number he gave me several times but only got a recording saying that the mailbox has not been set up. I wrote an email. Still no response. Save your money and your clothes and go to one of the restaurants in the Square instead. It'll probably be cheaper and the food and treatment will definitely be better. read more

Wholesome Fresh is pretty solid, a good addition to the Square which despite its many food options, doesn't have a lot of "tiny food options" (e.g., when you just want a snack but don't want to get a whole burrito). The hot bar is extensive with good selection of Asian foods (fried rices, noodles, dumplings, etc.) and Western options such as mac & cheese, fried chicken, etc. The cold bar was similarly expansive with fresh salads, fruits, and the like. It's not cheap -- similar or slightly north of Whole Foods prices -- but the back has a pretty good-looking deli counter and there are lots of specialty foods and produce you can get as well, if you don't mind paying $2 for an orange. read more

Everything about wholesome gives me the best vibes ever, they have everything you could ever need from the best pokè in the world to the most amazing hot and cold food bar with the best, and widest variety. My favorite things to get there are the Aloe Vera mango drinks, a poke bowl, and an assortment of fruits. All the pricing is very reasonable and in conclusion if I could rate wholesome fresh ten of ten stars but yelp contains my ecstaticness to 5. Truly fabulous and devine. read more

As many reviews indicate a major positive is the location -- with no other grocery nearby -- and variety for quick shopping. However, the prices are high, often double what you pay a mile away. Basically it's like paying restaurant prices for regular food. I periodically buy fruit and vegetables in a pinch. Unfortunately they often are not fresh, even spoiled. I usually take that with the high prices and swallow my loss. Recently the raspberries I bought were rotting (not the first time there, and elsewhere). I was not treated as I am at other nearby groceries, and no gesture was made to make a convenient refund this time. That is not my experience at other groceries in Cambridge where I shop regularly. You take your chances here. It can be good; it can be sub-par. The price is always high. read more

There were no salmon at all in the bowl I received, and the crabmeat was only a few pathetic shreds. There were also many other toppings it was missing. Pricey, but you're paying for the true convenience! It's open a crazy 24/7! The food options are quite nice, with salads to French fries to chicken tenders to ribs to chow mein, it's out and it's hot! The fresh food isn't what I even love about Wholesome Fresh... it's the snacks!!! They have so many snacks you can't find elsewhere and don't have to buy in packs/bulk. This goes for Welches fruit snacks, Haribo gummies, Baci chocolates.. a lot of overseas stuff! And if you want to stay on top of your diet, they have fruit on top of the crazy selection of groceries and food food. This little healthy corner deli/market is great! There is a large variety of healthy prepared foods and snacks. The hot bar looked fresh and items such as steamed veggies, sauteed seafood, and even kale salad for about $10/lb. There were lots of grab-and-go specialty drinks and snacks, perfect for students and tourists, and even some select grocery items like eggs and bread. I tried to make the best of it because I was starving (which makes everything taste better) and still couldn't even get through it. It went right in the garbage. The rice was so dry and disgusting and there was no sauce on it although I asked for sauce and the shrimp was terrible and the whole experience was a 0.7/10. Get a poke bowl or food from anywhere else if that's what you want. Ate it just after purchasing, and discovered that it wasn't hot -- really just somewhere between cold and warm.
