What an amazing experience we had this weekend. From the time we pulled in the parking lot. The staff is so helpful, professional and very friendly and welcoming. No one is pushing you to buy, you can take your time walking the field. It's not a huge place but great selection and very quaint! From the gift shop to the sweet shop and their "Santa" is by far the best I ever seen, well worth the $20 sitting fee!!! He doesn't rush you and my sons both got a toy. Let my lesson be yours: go to another place. We paid $375 for an 8-foot tree. I've had a real tree my entire life, and have been cutting one down for 10+ years. I know how to keep a natural tree. I've never paid more than $10-$20 per foot. We bought one of their pre-cut trees, that was tied to a post and put back in the ground a little bit. We didn't realize this, at first, but inquired and were told it was cut less than a week prior. When we got home that night, we cut off another slice from the bottom and put it right in water. I've never, EVER had a tree (that I've cut down myself) stop drinking water within a week, and have drooping branches and brittle needles within the 3 week mark. I've had Home Depot trees last longer than this. We cut the tree on 11/29; it's bone dry by 12/21. How am I supposed to keep this dry thing in my house for another 2 weeks? For $375, absolutely not. read more

It's that time of the year to get a fresh christmas tree. We went the weekend of thanksgiving and this place was packed. Lots of cars ended up parking by the side of the highway. I recommend you get here right when it opens in the morning to avoid the large crowds. First, the staff was super helpful and friendly, all of them! If this is your first time doing this, you will benefit from having someone help you talk through options and understand what to do. Knocking a couple of stars for two things: 1. It was very hard to find a tree under $100, there were a lot of beautiful trees, but the prices seemed high. Finding a nice one under 100 was a pain. 2. They have trees that are already cut, hard to tell at first glance, but you can see they are zip tied to a stick or post. I guess this is fine for people that want to go to a Christmas tree farm and not? cut down their own tree, but if you're going to do this, put them all in one section so it's easy to tell where they are. read more

I feel it is my responsibility and duty, to give folks a "heads up" before heading to this place for trees. First of all-I grew up in the Hudson valley. I've always cut my own trees. Most places allowed you to cut a tree of any size for $70-$75. When we visited this "farm" ( most of the trees they sell aren't even grown there!) we were shocked at the pricing. You could pay anywhere from $300-$400 for a decent sized tree (6-7 ft) we say a 3 ft tree and that was egregiously misshapen priced at $160!!' Anyways, this is not the norm. You do not have to spend this kind of money to cut your own beautiful tree. Abel's in Verbank is great and Bells in Accord, NY-any sized tree for $70! Beautiful REAL tree farm. read more

Spent about 5 min here, saw the cheapest tree was $125+ for a 5' tree. Parking was a disaster. They shouldn't let more people into the parking lot than can fit in the parking lot. Trees do look good though. Just not worth the money, and that many cars without a proper exit is a hazard. read more

I am writing this review to make sure another family does not make the same mistake we did and end up with crying children after they had been looking forward to cutting down their Christmas tree for so long. Put simply, the prices this Christmas tree farm charges are appalling. This year, I saw a 5 foot tall tree for $270. It was not even a nice tree; there were bare spots everywhere. Bigger trees came with even bigger price tags and I would say most were in the $300-400 range. We were completely priced out and I had to explain to my children that we could not afford these Christmas trees. What an awful thing to have to do. In addition, this "farm" is small (relatively speaking) and full of trees perfectly spaced out that were around the same height; meaning there were no smaller trees to be cut next year. I have to imagine that the majority of these trees were grown elsewhere and then transplanted here sometime over the past couple of months just so people can have the "cut your own" experience. Please save yourself time and tears, and just drive the extra 15-30 minutes north to find true family farms that do not gouge families (and sell beautiful trees for well under $100) read more

Great experience ! I almost didn't go after reading the other reviews . I did not see a tree over 200 so not sure what these other folks are talking about . We picked a lovely tree for 70 bucks . What a great experience this weekend at Cockburn Tree Farm ! This is a small but lovely tree farm not far out of the city where we were coming from. We had spent part of the day in Cold Spring and stopped at Cockburn Farm on our way home and I'm so thankful we did. We found the perfect tree for our apartment. There were many great trees to choose from. Walking through the small farm you can see this is a popular place - there was such a festive atmosphere in the air! I couldn't take myself away from the gift shop, there were so many cool things and many handmade items. I picked up a few items for gifts and a great decorative wooden sled for me. They have a big fireplace inside and the real Santa was there - I mean this guy was as close to the real Santa as I've ever seen!! I guess you can have a photo session with him and I heard one mom remark that the kids all got a free gift, so nice ! I'm so glad we found Cockburn Farm and and I can't wait to make this an annual stop. This place is great! My cousin and I took our families here for our trees this year (kids ranging from 1 to 6). They had over a thousand planted trees to cut down and trees ready for transport, one nicer than the other. The staff is super friendly and help you from start to finish. They had pics with Santa, complimentary hot chocolate and a gift shop with nice stuff and some really cool gear. We are definitely coming back next year for our tree! read more

Read the article in the local paper. Cut down your own tree! Cockburn is much closer than our usual place. So off we go.... helpful staff in store. We look around at the trees closest to the shop. I am not willing to spend over 100 dollars on a tree. We then go up the hill to look at the trees. We finally found one we liked. Here is where it gets interesting. Remember the article stated you cut down your tree. A very first for us, the trees had been previously cut and zip tied to fence posts. Next year back to our usual place! read more

We had so much fun today at Cockburn Farm! Friendly and helpful staff! We found the perfect tree, enjoyed complimentary hot chocolate and cookies and even got to meet Santa! We weren't rushed at all when meeting Santa! Both kids with us got to have a conversation with him, not rushed like at the mall. They took a few photos to find the perfect one! What a cute little tree farm with a cozy cabin and lots of trees to choose from to make your Christmas perfect! The farm has two types of trees, cut your own or precut trees; which are a little bit cheaper. Both types of trees are beautiful! My family and I visited this tree farm for the first time on Black Friday. We are from the city and just moved to the Hudson valley 2 years ago. We were very excited to cut down our first Christmas tree. Upon arrival, staff was very friendly and helpful. The parking lot is small so there is a line to wait to park your car. Ok so here's our problems... first they sell hot cocoa at an outside stand but offer it for free inside, along with coffee, water and complimentary cookies. So why sell hot cocoa, when it's free inside, we felt taken. No biggie, but next we venture out to cut down a tree. They hand you a saw, and point you where to go. We take a walk along with pictures and find a beautiful Douglas fir, 7-8 ft, just what we were looking for, check the price tag... $400. That's totally insane. We were so disappointed that we came here knowing Abel tree farm offers any tree, any size, for $55. So we humbly walk back and hand back our saw and ask if the already cut trees are cheaper. We pick out an already cut tree, 7-8 ft for $100. So unhappy. Not the experience we wanted to show our daughters. With that said, again staff was exceptional with wrapping and tying the tree to our car. We go inside ( find the free hot cocoa, after purchasing the one from the stand) and are greeted by Santa Claus. We have a five year old and a newborn, first Christmas. My oldest runs to his lap and the photographer Garrett mcguiness snaps away. I felt funny taking my own, because we wanted to purchase a photo through him. We understand it's a business. I wish I would've have know, what I do now, because I would have taken better pics. My newborn joins and it's perfect. No tears. We were so happy and so excited to choose our pictures through the photographer. He tells us their printer is down and he'll email the pics to us. Cashier was also very friendly. We go hone feeling taken. Not happy with our experience. We check our email that night and no pics. We try again Saturday night. No pics. We call cockburn farms and they give us Garrett mcguiness's phone number. He said by the end of the weekend he sends all the pictures out in a batch. Weird. Ok. Sunday night, nothing. I call Garrett on Monday and he tells me he has problems with doing what he's suppose to do , take pictures and email them. Doesn't sound hard. He tells me to go to his website, scroll through all his albums, find cockburn farm Santa album, click in that then scroll through 94 albums to find my pics. Are you kidding me? Oh and they swear they are professional and have an award for best in dutchess county. Lol. I go though 48 albums (1,475 pictures) before I finally give up. My husband calls and gets another link from him, and finally finds our pictures. Maybe 2 good shots that I'd purchase, out of 22. The price. $55 a photo, just to download and then I would have to pay myself to print, or $600, yes $600 to buy the 22 pic horrible pictures. Are you kidding me? No way am I paying this amateur money for a photo with Santa. Terrible. They should be ashamed. I will tell all my friends about this place and their choice of photographer. I will never be back. If you haven't visited this farm yet, what are you waiting for! They have beautiful trees, wreaths and other live greenery that you can use for decorating your home. You can find the most unique and adorable handcrafted Christmas ornaments and gifts inside the little shoppe. Pick up a few of the pine candles while you're there too!! They smell great and last for a very long time. I still have mine from last Christmas! Expensive, small, disappointing. My husband and I look forward to cutting down our Christmas tree every year, and every year we pick a new place. After looking at their great website, I picked Cockburn Farm. Our greeter was quite friendly, but we quickly realized this tree farm is tiny! You can see the entire farm from the parking lot. We walked around checking out the trees and prices only to discover that the trees you cut yourself started at around $250 for a 5ft tree and and went up from there - and you do all the work!! Really they just want to sell you pre-cut trees that don't come from their farm - and they couldn't tell us where those trees came from when we asked. We wanted local trees. The pre-cut trees (from who knows where) were a little more reasonably priced, but still on the high side for pre-cut trees, and the choice of trees was limited to only three types. We left without a tree, and ultimately purchased one from a community group where the proceeds went to a local organization. read more

This places is absolutely an amazing place. The prices range from low to high but I understand completely because of the massive tree shortage. Their trees are all trimmed to perfection and without any brown spots within. You are more than welcomed to bring your dogs which made it a more friendly environment. All the workers shared much valuable information with me. The ladies inside were also very helpful and told us about the history of the farm. The gift shop also has so much to offer and this year they sold a thing called Reindeer Food which was the cutest idea ever, my cousins were in love that I had gotten them some. Santa was there when we arrived and the look on all the kids faces were priceless who got to meet and ask what they wanted for Christmas from him. The wreaths they sell last forever, I had gotten one last year and it lasted about two months which is crazy because if you get it from walmart they last about a week. If I were you I would seriously go and give this place a try, they are just trying to spread some holiday cheer for everyone. read more
