I had a wig party here last night and had a fabulous time. Allyson, the owner, helped us all pick out fantastic wigs and did our makeup. I loved it. We set up wine and champagne in the front room. There was plenty of space to dance and mingle. In the back room, we took turns getting our makeup done. I loved the way we all turned out. I had a much better time than I was hoping for. Great little shop. Went in, after my original wig concept turned out to be a miserable failure. I walked back to the wig room and BAM! There it was. My glorious, beautiful and wonderfully teased purple beauty was there waiting for me. I loved wearing it, and I'm so happy to be able to add it to my collection. Had my bachelorette party here. I was already in love with the store for the eyelashes and hair accessories. So when it was time to figure out where to take us, the wig party was my first thought. My ladies brought in our own snacks and cocktails. Everyone got a basic wig (or could pay more on their own if they wanted a fancier wig.) We had people who would do our makeup and we could pay extra for eyelashes. Then there was a photo shoot. So much fun. I actually have too much hair for a normal wig but she had this amazing unicorn/Hedwig mullet thing. Allison really cares about making it a great experience. High recommend. read more

Coco Coquette - Bachelorette Party! - Cosmetics & Beauty Supply Near Me - Austin, Texas

I have mixed feelings about this place. I really like the one girl who works here, and the in-store experience is great. The wig room is really nice, the one girl (Emily?) is super attentive, nice, and helpful, and I've had a pleasant time almost every time I visited. (I am not a fan of the owner, who was really off-putting and kind of rude.) If you're going for a wig party or to have a cute afternoon, you'll probably have a great time! The way Coco Coquette handles their wigs, though, really rubs me the wrong way. They stock wigs from well-known African American manufacturers but redesign everything to cater to white girls, from the names to the packaging to the pricing. These same wigs are available at different stores for often less than half the price, but they don't come in a cute little gold box, and the names aren't as hipstery. For example, my favorite wig ("Stella" by Motown Tress) is called "Taylor" at Coco Coquette. When I tried to replace it in a different city, it was an absolute nightmare finding it since I had the wrong information. The only reason I knew the manufacturer was from the tag in the wig itself (I'm surprised they didn't cut it out), and I had to sift through their entire catalogue to find the correct name. Once I did, I saw that the $62 "Taylor" wig retails for like $25 as "Stella" at most stores, and even at little local stores, so this isn't a small business thing. Removing the original packaging also made it difficult for me to identify the color, since "ombre vanilla" or whatever doesn't translate. I understand the price hike, and the gold boxes are a nice touch, but changing the name and hiding the manufacturer is gross. It's typical for East Austin to pull this kind of Columbus-y nonsense, but it's not cool. I also don't know if it's even legal for them to alter the product like that. Anyway, it's a cute place, but very, very Austin. :/ Update in response to the owner writing that by using the word "Columbus" I'm comparing her store's appropriation to genocide: You know what I meant, and I don't appreciate your tone. Super fun bachelorette party! This place is so unique and so Austin hip. We had a fabulous bachelorette party here with 14 girls. Cool old house in east Austin, brought our own tunes, food and bubbly. The owners were lovely and gracious and had us all looking fabulous in some fantastic wigs. There's a great selection to choose from. After they helped us pick out the perfect wig, a talented makeup artist did our makeup and lashes if we wanted them. She made us all look gorgeous! There is also a vintage clothing shop that we had a blast trying on furs and other fun clothes. The photographer then showed up and proceeded to make us all feel and look like hot super models. We had my sister's bachelorette party at Coco Coquette last weekend and it was a flawless experience!! Allyson was a pleasure to work with to coordinate everything. It was an unforgettable night! We arrived at the wig shop/vintage shop and Allyson showed us into this vintage hair salon - that's where we would hang out for the evening (a three hour event). We brought booze and snacks, and had pizza and salad from East Side Pies delivered - delicious! One by one each girl was brought back into the wig and make-up salon to get a wig (a $30 value or you could pay more for other wigs) and make-up (including lashes, which are extra but WORTH IT). The wig-fitting and make-up experiences were incredible!! Professional, fun, exciting, hilarious. I loved every second. And then the photographer showed up! Our photographer Nikki was a sweetheart, and so talented. She really helped us pose, and her pics came out great. She charges $5 per vintage Polaroid but they are worth it as keepsakes!! All of this was a great value of under $500. Unbelievable. I wish they had something like this in DC! Every girl had a blast. Can't recommend this experience highly enough. read more

Wigs were outstanding, and excellent quality-so I would definitely recommend the store for the product and the fun you'll have with the wigs when you'll leave. Also one of the stylists was outstanding, she was thoughtful and kind and swooped in when she sensed our vibe of feeling dismissed! But they definitely treated us like second class citizens. We weren't able to schedule a party as they were booked, we called the shop to verify their hours and that it was okay to come in without a reservation during store hours, and we were reassured that it was. There was a flash party going on, and the stylist that greeted us shared that with us immediately and said that we probably couldn't try on that many wigs and that we had to limit the number of people in the wig room as it was just "so busy". Yes this makes sense but she was very rude about it, as was her manager. We were there as paying customers, no need to make us feel less then. And if this is how you're going to treat other ppl that come during a party, maybe don't even have flash parties when the store is open. read more

This place was easy to find and a great location in Austin. Parking was simple and available. What a cute little business from the inside out. Definitely hip and sassy. Great customer service and awesome products at a great price. I've never even wore a wig before. I was offered to have a try on which was a great experience. I didn't get the opportunity to look at the actual salon portion of the place. But from what I was able to experience. I think this is by far the best place to get reasonably priced. It was my friend's bachelorette outing and we had our wig party here. AMAZINGLY FUN! Who would have thought we'd have the best time picking out crazy wigs and getting dolled up. We brought our own drinks, food, and music, and gabbed in the front room while we took turns transforming into our alter egos. So many wigs to choose from along with funky eyelashes that made me want to give butterfly kisses all night long. Allyson is super friendly and the entire shop is just too darn cute. Afterwards a photographer came and took pictures of us individually and as a group. We went out to town without inhibition with our fabulous, glamorous selves! We received so many compliments the entire night, and I never wanted to transform from my Jem-&-The-Holograms self back to Jerrica Benton. I'll definitely be visiting that shop again. read more

I wish we had reserved far enough in advance so that we could've done it on a Saturday night, but Allyson was so nice to accommodate us on Easter or as she calls it Pastel-o-ween. The most amazing activity we did for my bachelorette weekend!!!! We booked a wig party which was held privately after the shop was closed, so it included wigs and makeup for everyone. The store is beautiful! Unfortunately my customer experience at the store was not ideal. :( I went in the morning to buy a wig that I've been wanting for a while and needed for an event, and one of the people working told me it wasn't in stock but assured me they would be ready in a couple of hours - at the latest. I went back that afternoon, and a different person told me the wig would not be in stock probably until the next couple of days. It was a bit disappointing to be told different information, and maybe more team communication would be helpful in order to provide accurate expectations. Had fun but Allison asked me if I wanted to cover the tip for my whole party. I said yes. Then I heard her ask two more girls after me if they wanted to leave tip, and they did. I didn't think she'd ask because I just covered the party. I didn't tell the girls because I didn't think she'd ask.
