The proprietor scammed me. I was preparing for a performance and my instructor wanted me to buy a hairpiece to give my hair some more volume for the costume. I had never bought anything like this before so I went to the store ahead of time (before I went with my instructor) to make sure they had what I needed. The owner was very rude to me when I walked in but then warmed up a little bit. He showed me what they had that was what I was looking for and they had a good selection. I was a little suspicious because nothing had price tags on it. He told me everything in that section was $20-25. When I went back with my instructor, the proprietor was much nicer to him than me and they looked at many items while I looked on (because I didn't really know what I was supposed to buy). They settled on something and we went to the cash register where the guy told me it was $80! I was pretty shocked but I went along (my mistake). The proprietor had taken the hairpiece out of the box to show it and didn't give me the box--he just stuck the hairpiece in a cheap little plastic bag (like a grocery bag but smaller and cheaper) by itself and handed it to me. For $80 I would have at least expected to get the box. I now think it was because he scammed me on the price and didn't want me looking it up. When I took it to my hairdresser, she said that it was wrong for what I wanted (it had the wrong clips and so could only be used for a ponytail, which was specifically not what we wanted) and it was only worth $15-20. So I got scammed on the price and now can't even use it. I should have read the reviews of this place because someone else said they were scammed as well. Went here with a friend who needed a new wig. She now has a new wig, a wig stand and accessories, and complimentary shampoo, leave-in conditioner, and a few other things. Owners are an elderly Chinese man and his wife. They're patient, kind, compassionate, friendly. A.K. is ready to make a sale, but he isn't pushy; his wife took my friend's wig from "wavy" to "perfectly blown out and styled" in a matter of minutes. They also repair and update wigs bought from their shop. p.s. No, they don't have a sticker on the door, but they are 100% queer friendly, guaranteed. read more

I bought a high quality 100% human hair wig from Wig Avenue, and I love it. But the experience could hardly have been worse. Due to medically induced hair loss, I wear a wig every day, so I expected to pay for something durable that didn't look like a wig. Wig Avenue doesn't have a big selection of human hair wigs, but I found something I was happy with. My friend and I had questions about styling the wig -- the bangs were too long and the hair on the crown formed a lump -- but to every one of them, the proprietor said, "Don't worry about it. The stylist will fix it." I had to pay for the wig before the stylist would come to the store, and the price was about $700 more than the proprietor said it was. It was still in my price range, and I assumed I'd misheard. My friend later told me she heard the same price quoted as I did and said the proprietor also showed her a $750 check he intended to give the stylist. What?! The stylist was truly awful -- she didn't fix any of the issues I had with the wig. She'd snip a little bit here and there and announce she was done. We forced her to try again 3 more times and finally gave up. So I have since had to pay another stylist -- about 1/7 of what I apparently paid this one -- to fix my wig. I do love the wig very much, but the customer service -- in addition to what I described above -- was traumatic. I will never ever go back there. read more

He, also, seemed very knowledgeable, and was able to help me pick out a wig my wife loved. I took her back yesterday, and his wife styled her wig at no charge. TL;DR - 10/10 do recommend. Great selection, service, prices, and they are obviously invested in making and keeping long term customers! I dyed my hair all sorts of colors for ten years but have it natural now and have been thinking about wigs but hadn't pulled the trigger until I visited Wig Avenue per a recommendation from my best friend. I was very impressed and am so glad she recommended Wig Ave to me! I was a little nervous at first. I hadn't been in a wig store before, and they have rules about getting a wig cap before trying on wigs, but I found a few that I liked so I asked the man behind the counter if I could try stuff on. He stopped what he was doing and came right out to help me, having me point out the wigs I was interested in and asked me to sit in their styling chair to try them on. I liked a few from around the store. He grabbed them all for me, and then explained the need for a wig cap to make trying them on a good experience that is also safer and more sanitary. He gave me an option between disposable ones for $1 or a nicer one for $5. I picked the nicer one so I'd have one to use going forward. He helped me try them all on and showed me tips for putting them on and adjusting them. He was very professional and helpful. One of the wigs I had picked didn't work on me at all, so he went to get a similar one that I ended up loving! Once I'd picked the wigs I wanted, he went to get their stylist, who was ready to help me cut/style the wigs I bought in any way I wanted. I chose to leave them the wigs the way they were, and both staff members told me I could come back to have them cut/styled any time for free as a part of buying wigs from them! I thought that was pretty rad. When I was ready to check out, he asked me if I had ever had wigs before, which I hadn't, so he had me turn on my phone video camera, and he did a whole lil video explanation about care and upkeep for the wigs, showed me the products he recommended for keeping up with them (a few cheap but effective wig stands, a wire brush, and a leave in conditioner spray that he told me to dilute and use when necessary, which he said would last me 2+ years), and answered any questions I had. He also said if I ever messed up the wigs, I was welcome to come back and they'd get them detangled and fixed also for free :) I was very impressed with their selection, from colorful to natural to synthetic vs real hair. They had a wide variety of prices to meet most budgets. Their customer service was friendly, prompt, and professional. I walked in here with a friend after eating lunch next door. The store has a huge supply of human hair wigs and extensions. We found what we were looking for without a problem. I used to buy all of my extensions and hair pieces from this place. Always had a good experience, until my most recent visit. I took my friend in and I really just wanted to look around unless I could find a full set of extensions for no more than $200. The owner showed me a couple of packages and then I told him I wasn't willing to spend more than a couple hundred. He used really slick words like, "for you I give discount, $280 for both!" So I'm thinking, "heck yes! He appreciates my business and is giving me a good deal"...while he's checking me out at the register, he starts distracting me and telling me to leave a yelp review, and starts to be wayyyy more friendly than he normally is. Offers me and my friend free nail polish and eyelashes, as he puts my extensions in a bag as well as the receipt, steps down and starts hugging us trying to distract us until we get out of the door. I get into my car and pull out the receipt, almost $500! Disgusting and so sneaky. I will never go back. I understand paying for good quality hair pieces, but to sit there and know exactly how you're playing your words and TRICKING me after I specifically said my price range? This is by far the worst place for wigs. First of all the place looks and smells like a dump!! The old asian man there is rude, creepy, and unfriendly, i've been twice now and i have had the same experience. They sell wigs at a very expensive cost that you can buy for less than 100$ on amazon!! when you ask him that you are looking for a wig he immediately says what budget what budget we have wigs that cost 10,000$! I said my budget is 500$ he showed me the most awful 2 wigs and said that's all we have! This place is literally ripping people off and should be reported. It's like they do not want to make any business at all! This guy is absolutely AWFUL!!! I went to a different place called serenity wigs and they are amazing, professional with a nice proper salon looking space and have excellent selections for less than 400$! read more

When I tell you I couldn't have a worst experience, I am not kidding. My mom needed to buy a really good quality wig for personal reasons and has been pretty stressed about the whole process. First of all, we explained and showed exactly what we needed, the type, the length, the color, etc. But we are new to this whole process and we needed guidance. But he did not help us at all. He kept on showing us things that didn't match any of our criteria. We got treated like kids, like we just wanted to try on wigs for fun instead. He didn't take us seriously, even asked my mom is "she could handle it". She wanted to try several wigs to see what will fit her better but was told it wasn't possible. How on earth is she supposed to buy a $3k+ wig without even trying on different styles?! She left the store in tears, being treated so poorly. This place has a bit of a weird vibe. I've been in twice now. First time was to find a petite cap wig for everyday use. I think I got a feeble greeting but was generally ignored. I do appreciate being left to browse on my own, but it was a little frustrating considering there are no prices on anything or labels etc. The petite wig collection (after asking where they were) was pretty bad. Nothing against this store in particular, I think it's a general thing that petite wigs are very 'old lady.' Second time was to get a fun wig for Halloween. Again, not really greeted or anything. Seemed like we were putting him out by saying hello. Asked about prices and he said it depends on the length and starts at 50. We thought that was a bit steep for some of the cheaper looking costume wigs. I'm also put off by the signs everywhere telling you not to take pictures, and a strict wig trying-on policy that just seems arbitrary to me. Not a terrible store, but like I said, weird vibe. Finding wigs that are both affordable and of good quality has been tough. I come from the Bay Area of California where wig shops are a dime a dozen. I've had a tough time finding a shop with great service, and a wide selection of price and hair/cap type. It's also been tough to find a shop with a lot of blonde choices. I'm 1000% done with trying to tame my thin curly rats' nest of hair and have started getting into wigs. I bought one online and wanted to get another as a more casual option. Wig Avenue indeed... has a lot of alternative hair options. I walked in and didn't even know where to focus my eyes... traditional wigs errywhere, lining the walls and counters - human hair, synthetic, short, long, curly, stripper-y, classy, all colors. I was happy to see there were many natural color options (as opposed to just party wigs). There are also an overwhelming amount of hair extensions... alongside hair/wig care products and hair accessories like clips and headbands. And they offer styling in-store. I settled on a long synthetic wig (I look a little like the girl from The Ring) and got a wig brush, conditioning spray, and clips... all the basics. I found the prices to be reasonable - even for human hair, the cost was lower than many options available online, but not so low that I questioned quality. The owners were more hover-y than pushy, I felt. The man (husband?) was friendly and threw in a couple extra items. He told me to come back if I had any issues and they'd fix me up... I super appreciated that! He also explained basic wig care to me, like how/when to shampoo, in enough detail that I still remember how to do it days later. I did end up going back with a friend - buying wigs is a dangerous addiction - while wearing the one I'd purchased there. The owners laughed at me (no joke) and told me I was wearing it incorrectly; they styled it for me and showed me how to wear it "properly." I liked that they took the time to fix me up (for free) but I was a little embarrassed... also, when I spend a couple hundred dollars on something, I'm gonna use it however I want. Would go again, if money for wigs re-enters my life. Prob not the place to go to get a super expensive piece, but you'll find a wide range of many products related to caring for alternative hair, and you'll have the opportunity to learn how to care for them. Wow! I can't believe the bad reviews about this place. I had a wonderful experience here! I came in looking for extensions since I just got a horrible haircut. I walked in and immediately the owner was so friendly and helpful! He showed me exactly what type of hair I needed and then they even put them on for me. They trimmed some of the hair and I came out looking like a damn princess. The whole experience was awesome, I was so happy with how my hair looked. The owner gave me an instruction pamphlet on how to put in my extensions, how to care for them, and how to store them. He even showed me step by step how to clip them on and even brush them. He was so thorough and polite, it's definitely not often that you get that kind of customer service. He told me if anything at all was wrong with the extensions that they would fix it right away! They have a good selection but the staff is so damn pushy I'd much rather go to the Bazaar, Quarter to Ten or one of the other wig stores in town if I'm looking for hair. I went in to buy some styrofoam heads and my conversation with the man working went something like this: Man Working: You wear wigs or you doing art project? Me: Oh, I wear wigs sometimes. Man Working: YOU BUY FROM HERE NEXT TIME!!!!! Me: Heh, alright, we'll see... Man Working: YOU BUY FROM HERE NEXT TIME!!!!! And then my friend and I made the mistake of looking at some photo of feather extensions and making a comment about it and the woman working tried to sell us on it for a good few minutes, even though we kept telling her we had no interest. They also tried to sell my friend some extensions after she repeatedly told her they didn't carry what she was looking for. I have been meaning to write a review for Wig Avenue ever since February, when I first realized there was actually a wig/ beauty supply in my neighborhood. All I can say is that I am beyond THRILLED to have this shop so close to me! I am an entertainer here in Austin. I play music, I am in a dance troupe, and I model, so I am ALWAYS looking for good quality hairpieces, lashes, make-up, etc. Before I discovered Wig Avenue, I would have to co-ordinate my busy schedule to find time to head to south Austin, or to the east side for affordable hairpieces. And most of the time, I didn't find exactly what I wanted, but I could find items that would do the job. One day, while out running errands, my boyfriend pointed out the store as we passed and asked if I had been there. I told him I'd never even heard of it, so he drove me right over (he's a good man!). As soon as I walked into the store, I noticed it was extremely clean and well-lit. I was immediately made to feel welcome there. I was politely greeted by Grace, the store owner. She was extremely attentive and helpful, but didn't make me feel smothered like some other stores I have frequented. She had the EXACT piece and color I was looking for that day (just in time for a go-go show I was going to be in). Her prices are great, too! At checkout, she thanked me for coming in and even gave me a free eyebrow groomer, just for coming in! I knew I would be back. A few store visits later, I met the man that works there, too (I am assuming it is Grace's husband). Like Grace, he is such a sweetheart, and has a fun sense of humor! They let you know that they appreciate your business, and they will practically bend over backward to make sure you have everything you are looking for. Anytime that I have mentioned a specific type of product that they didn't have, I was pleasantly surprised to come back and find that they added it to their store stock!! There are so many reasons I choose to come back and spend my money here. I want to support them for the great service they are providing me. I just read the review from the gal named "Juliet J." who left the unpleasant review for Wig Avenue, and all I can think is that she must have been having a bad day when she came in shopping. I say this because I have been in the store about 10 times in the last almost 4 months, and it has always been a consistently fun experience for me. They even call me by name as soon as I come in the door!! And not to pick on Juliet, because I do not know her, but she mentioned she is from L.A. and in so many words, said this shop doesn't work in this area. But I AM FROM L.A. as well, and I would have to disagree. North Austin ABSOLUTELY NEEDS this store, and it doesn't matter to me what style or age the staff is, just as long as they are friendly and helpful. It's actually refreshing to come in here and not feel like I am in a dance club environment. So we may not be the "hipster" part of town, but not every 'cool' person lives in South Austin or has the time to head down when they need a hairpiece for a special occasion. There are a ton of people / entertainers living in this area who would love this shop!! (And contrary to her review, there has always been music playing when I come in.) This shop has products for every ethnic group, Grace was absolutely wonderful, professional, and knew exactly what style was complementary for my face shape as well as the hair color that looked nice for me, She was a joy to work with. All of my questions were answered to my satisfaction and I will be going back often because I enjoy shopping in an environment that's not cluttered with boxes of products that are falling out into the aisles. As for music playing in stores, FORGET IT. Buy yourself an iPod. I enjoyed the quiet! SO glad I found Wig Avenue!! I recently completed chemotherapy treatments and saved some of hair using cold caps. I did however lose most of the hair at the nape of my neck and learned about halo extensions. After practicing with a few synthetic kinds that didn't really match me, I decided to pop in just to "look" and see what options there were in person since I had bought several online from other retailers that never really matched. Within 5 minutes of walking in AK (the owner) had my exact hair color matched. I had gotten a few estimates from other human hair halo extension brands that ranged anywhere STARTING from $300-$1,000, and after mounting medical bills I already had it in my mind that human hair wasn't an option... BUT, I was able to get a set of quality human hair halo extensions here with a few additional products all for UNDER $300 including tax AND they even applied and trimmed them to my liking all as a complimentary service! They were wonderful to me and my husband, and we especially appreciate a business that is sensitive to what we recently went through and were eager to help any way that they could. read more

Not the experience I was hoping for. I went in to purchase some hair extensions to be dyed for my wedding. In general, the store is in a bit of disarray and there are no prices on the products. The gentleman who assisted me (the owner, I believe) gave me conflicting information and it was unclear which extensions I should purchase. Once purchased, I returned the extensions to my salon to be dyed. The stylist later informed me that the color did not hold and that I should return to the store to request a refund. I did so, and was told (again by the same gentleman) that he made it clear to me that I bought "cheap" extensions that would not hold color. I requested an exchange, but he stated that, because they were already dyed he couldn't do anything. He offered to give me a $20 discount on the purchase of new "higher quality" extensions that he guaranteed would hold color. The new extensions worked and held their color, but it was an extremely expensive lesson. I will not purchase from Wig Ave. in the future. read more

This owner treated me poorly from the time I stepped in the store. Mind you, I've been to this store many times before and had have up until recently, been treated decently from his wife. He proceeded to talk on the phone whilst I asked for assistance and neglected to even look my way. Upon purchasing my product he threw the receipt at me and had the audacity to lecture me on the next time I come in I'll have to adhere to a 10 dollar minimum for card purchases. I later found out , this rule is illegal. Not once did I appear angry, upset , or disrespectful towards this man. I simply wanted to purchase hair accessories. I've never been treated with such disgust . Save you money , time and energy . If this man treated me this way, I can't imagine how other women are treated. read more

I called in asking if they could style a wig and received the worst customer service. Super rude man. I made it clear that I was willing to buy a wig in the store if that was necessary but that I hadn't seen anything like the color or length I needed on their site or yelp page. I bought a wig and wanted that one styled but was willing, like I said, to buy in store if they had what I needed. The man argued with me for five minutes in circles about not knowing what kind of wig I had even though I was just trying to ask if I needed to make an appointment. He ended up yelling at me that he had a customer to attend to and that my wig was too cheap to touch and hung up. The staff was warm, welcoming, superior customer service, personable with helping with hair piece, assisting me with the RIGHT shade, and showing me various ways to style it. I had looked on line and seen a photo of Wig Ave's rows and rows of wigs, so we decided to go there, and I'm really glad. AK, the owner, let me pick out a number of wigs I wanted to try, then assisted me in putting them on. I've never put a wig on before, so I definitely needed help. I probably tried on 10 wigs before narrowing my choices to two. He called Grace, the stylist, to come work with the two I had chosen. Grace, as her name implies, was very gracious while adjusting one wig to fit better, trimming, styling, and giving me tips on how to work with the wigs to make them look natural. Before leaving they both assured me that if I needed anything at all (resizing after I lost my hair or trimming to a shorter length, etc.) to come back and they would do it with no charge.
