Not sure if they've changed or I just got lucky but I did not encounter most of the issues posted here. I called to make an appointment and had no issue with that. Came in 15 mins early, the weird thing was that although the spa was open, there was no one there. I waited for about 10 mins before walking inside to see if anyone there - and there was a lady. So I told her I have an appointment. No issue from this point on, was led into the room, got a decent hot stone massage. My complaints: 1. The massage therapist clearly doesn't speak English. There were no questions asked about my preferred pressure or areas I want to focus on/avoid. 2. Related to the above point, I wasn't sure what to do when he started to apply lotion to my face. Normally I won't allow that (I have some weird skin allergies that I myself don't even know what will trigger), but I'm not even sure if he'd understand me. So I didn't say anything as I felt fine. It was on me that I did not say anything, I understand, but it's also not that weird after a whole massage session with no communication (besides the words "face up" - and he even had the receptionist coming in to tell me to undress and start face down. This was the worst "massage" I've ever gotten in my LIFE, and I've been to a lot of spas. I used a Groupon with my friend, and each of us was hoping the other was not getting as terrible an experience, but we were wrong. THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE. Not worth even the $41 Groupon. It's amazing they are even still in business. My masseuse had obviously never given anyone a massage in his life (I hope) and rather chose to sloppily pat lotion all over me while humming to himself along with the creepy faux jazz music blasting over the speakers. He had zero technique and I'm convinced he was just some rando who wandered in off the street. When I asked him to actually do something like, I don't know, MASSAGE my shoulders, he giggled for like a minute straight and I'm actually convinced he was laughing at me. Then, he proceeded to awkwardly crunch the bones in my back together so hard I cried out in pain and my friend heard me from the next room over! This guy was the most inept person I've ever seen and should be fired. His hands were also weak and very puffy. I mean, I'm sorry, but I can put lotion on myself at home and do a better job. This was such an absolute waste of money. Ladies: Have you ever had someone purposely lather FIVE LAYERS OF OILY OFFBRAND LOTION on your face? Not even massaging your face, but just slopping lotion all over it? If you are screaming in horror, then your reaction is 100% a match of mine. I could not believe anyone would be so stupid. If you don't think this is a problem, THEN I HOPE YOU LIKE ADULT ACNE. EVERYWHERE. Secondly, this horrible man actually TOOK LOTION and RUBBED IT INTO MY HAIR. WHO EVEN DOES THAT. I was so horrified. He didn't even give a head massage. Just happily slopped lotion all over me. Finally, he proceeded to push into my back, neck and feet so hard with one finger that I yelped again in pain. No one will answer my calls or respond to the form I filled on their website to schedule a massage appointment. I've tried contacting both stores several days now but to no avail. If it's this frustrating just to make an appointment, I can't imagine what the actual massage experience is like here. Better off going to another spa. read more

I came here knowing it had only three star reviews, but gave it a try anyway. I am glad I did. The receptionist was very nice, I was able to express my needs for a more firm massage after which she offered a male therapist. I was able to be helped right away. The room was fine, including the bed, everything was clean etc. Just don't expect an over the top five star spa resort type of style. It's more basic than that. The massage itself was fantastic and just what I needed: the right amount of pressure, lots of emphasis on my back muscles, good technique and such. I came away feeling great and that's for $70 an hour, which is much lower than other spa's I have been to in Georgetown. I will come back soon again. read more

This was not a good massage experience and I would not recommend. They had no knowledge of my appointment when I arrived and bickered with each-other in front of me. After waiting my massage started and it was okay but he didn't ask about where I wanted focus. I could hear sounds in the other rooms and another woman kept coming in and talking with my masseuse- very unprofessional and not relaxing. Best massage I have ever had!! Seriously. I will become a regular here. I used to go to Meridian across the street in Georgetown, but it has become less reliable. So I tried Coco Massage (same thing as DC Health - this listing). And it was literally amazing! Deep tissue massage and acupressure. The woman I had was a miracle worker on my back. There are oil-based massages in private rooms, or over-clothes massages on tables in the main room (which I did). Highly recommend, super affordable. $45 for 45 min. read more

Excellent service. The therapist spoke English and knew exactly what areas to focus on. Limited English, but it becomes a problem if you let it be a problem. Everything can be communicated by body language or translator, with patience. They operate in a cultural sphere, but the end result is good. They try very hard to please. I did not have a good experience here. I had bought a Groupon but when I showed up they told me it had already been redeemed, which I know it had not, so I had to pay again there and then get reimbursed from Groupon later, which just felt sketchy. During the massage, my therapist kept leaving the room for long periods of time with no explanation. At one point, the receptionist came in during my massage and the two of them had a conversation with the door wide open and me lying on the table. Very unprofessional. Let's set the scene: it's 11am on a Tuesday and I am standing in the hallway of a salon with only a towel on while speaking on the phone to the owner. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. My friend and I redeemed vouchers on Groupon for massages and were looking forward to relaxing. We showed up 10 minutes late for our 10:30 appointment, our fault and we own up to that. But once we got there, they redeemed our voucher and led us back into separate rooms and told to undress. My massage started momentarily. My masseuse was a man and I was a bit surprised when he pulled the towel down past my lower back. I've had massages before, so this wasn't too out of the ordinary. What was though, was when another employee walked into the room and my masseuse left. I WAS LEFT ALONE AND NAKED!! Yes, I laid there for several minutes naked on the bed without explanation. I got up and wrapped the towel around myself and called out to the employees who were now in the front of the salon for an explanation. My friend was already in the hall fully dressed because they said her massage would need to be cut short because we had come in late. They neglected to tell her this until after she had taken her clothes off. Neither of the two employees there spoke proper English so we had to speak to the owner on the phone who kept insisting that we reschedule our appointment because we had come late. I explained to her if that were the case, we needed to be notified of that BEFORE we got undressed and our massages started. We had a circular conversation for a few minutes while she refused to understand why I was upset and insist that I reschedule. A few women were in the front waiting for massages as well and heard my conversation and left, a good choice. Essentially it ended with me threatening legal action if they did not give us a refund. I can live without the $90, but the violation of my person was the breaking point. We walked out with a refund only after having to threaten the owner with shutting her salon down for the blatant violations her employees committed. Also, if there were only 2 employees and other customers showed up right after us, how were we supposed to have our massages done even if we hadn't come 10 minutes late? BEWARE OF THIS SPA!!!!!!!!!I called this "spa" for over a week to schedule a massage. No one would answer the phone and you couldn't leave a message. I ended up just going there to schedule my appointment. When I walked in I was greeted by a woman who asked if I wanted a massage. I told her yes and that I had been calling for over a week and no one would answer. She looked at me with a blank stare as if she did not understand what I was saying. I repeated myself, and still I received a blank stare. She pointed to the massage list as to ask me to pick what type of massage I wanted. I tried to explain that this was my first time here and that I had a Groupon. When I pulled out my Groupon her whole demeanor change and she said "no Groupon". I ask why and she reponded by typing a message on her cell phone saying I didn't have an appiontment. At this point I clearly knew that there was a languauge barrier. I once agin tried to explain that I had been trying to schedule an appointment but no one would answer. She just keept saying no appointment, no groupon. I showed her my call logg that had their number more than 6 times and I even called the number right there to make sure I had been dialing the right number. Of course the phone rang right in front of me. Another employee, a male came to the front so I tried to speak with him. He didnt speak english either. At this point I was livid! I felt like until she realized I had a groupon she was ready to give me a massage. I couldnt even schedule an appointment for a future massage. Maybe thats why they don't answer the phone because they can't communicate in English. Needless to say I left. Now I have a groupon that was gifted to me that I can not use. The place offers full body acupressure massage with oil on a naked body or without oil on a clothed body. The pricing is along the line compared to other massage places around. Admittedly, all my body was in pain after having an office job for years, as I must have gotten a sitting disease that many office workers do. I now get massages with Steven once a week for the last two months. He gives a strong therapeutic massage working on pressure points in a very consistent manner. He is very knowledgeable, professional and, obviously, highly trained. Before I started massages with Steven, I tried physical therapy, yoga, swimming and other exercises but unfortunately with no avail. I believe the acupressure massage I receive in this place made a big difference as started to feel better and my pains are certainly decreasing. My husband has been having the sciatica and back issues for years. So, I convinced him to try Steven. My husband is a physician and is well aware of various muscular-skeleton issues people experience. My husband speaks highly of Steven's skills. There is a new female masseuse there as well. She seems very nice, positive, and welcoming. I read all the reviews posted here and do agree that there is some language barrier. They do not have a dedicated front desk person, but just two masseuses who may be with the customer when the phone rings. It is a very small operator. But here is a tradeoff. There are several nice spas in the area, with nice front desk secretaries, English speaking personnel and masseuses who give rather "skin" massage with no actual positive therapeutic impact. I tried many of them and, I must say, to my disappointment. In a few words, I do recommend the place for those who need help, who has pains in the body or need deep relaxation. In this place, you'll get the very basic from the 'administrative' point of view but you'll get the best from the therapeutic point of view. read more

Very bad experience. This was the first time in my life I actually wanted the massage to end early. I was often in physical pain (not the good kind) as the masseuse dug his elbows repeatedly into my spine and bones. He clearly is not credentialed and had no technique. Also, the two employees do not speak English in the slightest. I have another Groupon to this location and am choosing not to use it because the experience was simply awful.
