New Year = New Resolution! Thanks to Cocoa Banana's salad bar, I was able to shed few pounds (yes, I eat here religiously!). They offer fresh ingredients and wide variety of salad dressing (my favorite has been the Fat Free Sesame Dressing). Why have I not been here before? This place has a wonderful salad bar with all kinds of fresh veggies and condiments as well as some pasta salads and a really good brown rice salad. In addition, the smoothies are yummy and there are a lot of choices without it becoming ridiculous with boosters and 4 sizes, etc. There's one size only and I sucked it down in about 2 minutes. I was pretty careful about how much salad I piled up and ended up only spending $8.67 for both a salad and a smoothie. This is my new go to place when I'm at work! read more

I went here with a friend of mine for the first time a week ago. I don't understand why there are so many positive reviews. The place is a dive. The salad bar's "sneeze covers" looked like somebody has wiped snot all over them and we're just plain filthy. Based on how nasty that was I decided it was a good day for adventure so I assembled a salad and we took out food back to the office. When I opened up my salad to get ready to dig in there was a long, black hair (about 12 inches long) wrapped around one of the egg slices. Gross! I saw smoothies being made and would loved to have gotten one but based on the condition of the salad bar I could only imagine what the internals of the juicer looked like. Ptomaine anyone? They could do so much more with this place, but it's like a lot of places in Pioneer Square. Most places suck anyway, so in comparison, maybe that's why people get the rave reviews. I don't work for Market Fresh (on 5th and Marion I think, not the one in the Columbia Tower food court) but if I wanted a good salad I'd walk 5 more blocks to go there instead. That place is clean at least. I'm no food snob, but how much effort does it take to serve fresh, clean food? I would recommend to the owner(s) to clean the place us from top to bottom, get some new paint up on the walls and the pity's sake, clean up the nasty salad bar and KEEP IT CLEAN. Some extra light might be helpful to. Wish I could have given a positive review because the people seem very nice there and would love for them to be a success. If you walk past it and don't KNOW what it is, you'd probably miss it! But it's an excellent little salad & juice bar. Clean, simple and quick... you can pop in for a fast order to take back to your office. I've probably eaten here (well, take-out) a few dozen times. It's kind of a little hidden gem of a salad bar. Great selection of just about everything you can think about from different greens to mushrooms, veggies, ham, potato salad, and gobs of different dressings and stuff to put on top. Cocoa Banana just moved from its location on 2nd and James to a little hold in the wall with better signage on Cherry between 1st and 2nd in downtown Seattle (right next to Bakemans). I was happy to try this place today, as I like a good salad bar, but I was less than impressed with the location. Now, it may be because of the recent move, but this new spot seemed poorly lit, scant (no seating) and seemed very sterile -- no ambiance at all. To give you a picture, you walk in, and in front of you is the side of the checkout counter and a sign above your head with special drinks and so forth. To your left is a wall and empty space (seemed odd not to have "something" there), and to your right was the salad bar (a 3 section rolling salad bar with sneeze-guard and about 6-8 trays per section). There is no signage letting you know to go ahead and load up a plate or plastic togo box and head to the register, so I suppose you have to ask or be a repeat customer to know this (or maybe this is assumed knowledge in the salad bar crowd that those of us in the brownbag crowd just don't know yet). After you shuffle down the line to load up, you turn around and head to the register. The selection was decent, but it just seemed so lifeless in the place, I was glad to quickly pay and leave. I probably won't be back for a little while because when I walk into a place and pay over $9 for an average-sided salad, I'd like to at least have the option to sit and eat there. The staff there were very friendly, and quickly rang us up. The salads were a bit expensive for my taste. I'm giving this place a "Meh. I've Experience Better" rating for exactly that -- the experience. Most of the stuff in the Pioneer Square area has a flavor of Seattle. This had the flavor of a hospital, or at best, a high-school lunch room (but with worse lighting and no place to sit). I will try it again. But in about a month. i have two complaints. the salad bar has too little fruit, and the hours make it impossible for me to grab a smoothie on my way home from work. otherwise, the salad fixings are tasty and plentiful, and i especially like that you can bring your own dish instead of using the disposable containers provided. the fruit smoothies are super tasty, especially the banana colada, and the espresso smoothies are the perfect pick-me-up for hot afternoons. read more

This is a really simple place if you want something healthy, which is either a salad or a smoothie. I like how it's really clean inside, and there are a lot of fresh ingredients in the salad bar where you pay by the ounce. They don't have any tables or chairs inside so you can only order stuff to-go. The smoothies are pretty good where you can choose how to have your smoothie made with all the types of ingredients available. I find it interesting that they have certain drinks named after customers. I ordered a "Larry" that was a banana/strawberry smoothie with orange juice and nonfat frozen yogurt, and that tasted pretty good. I'll come back and try their salads next time. read more

Best salad bar in Pioneer Square! Well, it's probably the *only* salad bar around, so that gives Cocoa Banana the leg up. But they're always quite nice in there, and the goods are always pretty fresh. Nary a limp leaf to be found. Hurray! So delicious! I had a peach based smoothie (I think it was called "the Ryan") and got coconut milk instead of froyo. I also was amazed of the variety of the salad bar. I came across Cocoa Bananas while exploring downtown Seattle. Without even knowing it was there, I stopped in for a quick smoothie. I came out drinking one of the best smoothies I've ever had. Love this place! I go for the salad bar and the smoothies. You can make your own salads however you prefer. The ingredients are always fresh and there is a lot of variety and special fixings to be had. The smoothies are delicious. They have several recipes to choose from or you can build your own. I typically take one of the recipes and tweak it to my liking. Vs. Market Fresh, I say it's on par unless you want hot food. I think the veggies are often even fresher than market fresh. read more

I live and work in Pioneer Square and Cocoa Banana is absolutely the best place for lunch in the neighborhood. Their salad bar is kept very clean and has a great variety of options, plus the service is always friendly and speedy. The reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because one day I noticed that the peaches they were using to make my peach/blueberry/banana smoothie were canned. I count on my smoothies to help me get the amount of fruits/veggies I need in my diet, and any canned fruit certainly doesn't further this cause. Also, when you order orange in your smoothie, you get a splash of orange juice out of some gallon jug that looks grocery store bought and not freshly squeezed. But I know they always do use fresh bananas, frozen blueberrys, and fresh or frozen strawberries. I think they use fresh apples too, but I'm not positive. Despite the canned peaches, I love em anyways! When you go in ask for a punch card, you get your 9th smoothie for free! read more

The best salad bar in town! They have everything (then some!) you need in your salad, and price is very reasonable. When I get smoothie, I only get 100% carrot juice, but it's always awesome.
