Stopping in for takeout yielded a short wait and the entrance is a little bit oddly placed. Pulling into the parking lot makes it feel like you're going into the back of the restaurant as it doesn't face the main road. The menu includes marked vegan options as well as the ability to make request for dietary restrictions. In substance, I got two very good dishes. I asked for a four out of five spice level on one and a 5/5 on the other and both were quite fiery. Nonetheless, both had a mix of fruity sweet flavors and my drunken noodles had plenty of basil as well. The curry I got came with quite a bit of seitan, which is an unusual find, but an interesting addition to the usual tofu. Finding Asian cuisines with proper vegetarian labeling is not a given in this part of the country, so I was glad I took the opportunity as I passed through Charlottesville. read more

I did a sit-down dinner with some friends. My order came out with the wrong protein, and when I brought it up, I was told they could remake it or charge extra to add chicken on the side if I didn't want to wait. The correction felt awkward and wasn't handled particularly well, so I ended up eating much later than the rest of my group after everyone else had already finished. Service felt inconsistent overall- one staff member (the lady) was very kind, while another (male staff) made the situation feel rushed and uncomfortable. I had barely started eating when I was asked if I wanted a box. Checkout also felt uncomfortable, with the handheld tip screen starting at 18% while the server stood there waiting. I came here for an early dinner (like 5:30ish) with a friend, and the atmosphere was great! Honestly it was just great weather outside as well, but the place wasn't too crowded/loud, and there was music playing at a nice volume that allowed casual talk. I ended up ordering the Kao Soi with chicken, which was great. The broth is mostly sweet with a little bit of spice, and the egg noodles are delicious. The portion size was great, k actually was able to pack about half and take it home for lunch the next day which is great! Pineapples service continues to be way below expectations - they are consistently understaffed and take way too long to serve you. I've been in person now a handful of times and this is always our experience. The food was good enough to keep at 3 stars (average) but now it's not even that. The pad see ew is consistently the worst I've had in cville. And this is at least 4-5 times I've given it a chance over the last 1-2 years and every time I have it it's bad. It literally tastes just like pad see ew ingredients swimming in cooking oil. No flavor at all. Their apps are fine, albeit smaller portions than other Thai places in town. Some of their other entrees (pineapple curry, Kao soi and pad Thai) are suffering similar fates with the flavor issues. Overall, I prefer Chang, chimm, monsoon or lime leaf before I will come back here again. read more

Probably not walkable from typical student housing, but it is easy enough to get to with a car or by public transit, and there's plenty of parking nearby. We stopped by for a quick dinner here after having a very long day. The prices seemed normal and the place was in a nice cozy spot on a day when outdoor seating was comfy, so we decided to hop in. The place was pretty big for only 2 servers to handle, so it took us a while to get a table. Then we wait a bit longer for the water to be out. The speed of the service seemed to be an issue for multiple tables while we were there so it seemed they had staffing issues. But apart from that we loved the experience. We got the Kao Pad Ka Pow and Ka Pow Kai Dao, both were supposed to be extra spicy but we didn't find them spicy at all. We added some chilli pil on top and that made it spicy. The food tasted amazing and portions were perfect to leave us feeling full but not stuffed. Would definitely recommend for a quick dinner or lunch if in the area! read more

Always reliable, open late, and great flavors. I usually order take-out and it is always ready and hot! The Pad Thai with tofu is my go-to. They make a flavorful and crispy tofu. There is always the perfect amount of sauce. I once ordered the Nana Drunken Noodle with 2 pepper as the spice level. It had so many chili flakes and was so spicy that it was inedible. I have ordered from here 5+ times and this was the only time I haven't enjoyed an order but it was enough to be a little deterred. I love this place! Husband and I stopped in for the first time on Sunday. He loved the Thai iced tea, and I loved the fresh squeezed limeade. We started with the pork belly num tok which was super good. The mixed greens didn't add anything and sort of detracted. I'd still order again though. I had the ka pow Kai dao gluten free style. I have been to Pineapples once and had takeout here once. I love the food, I love the atmosphere, and for takeout I'd give this place five stars. Their takeout service is quick, easy, and comes nicely packaged and with extra spices in little containers! I loved it. We got the Roti Dip, vegetable Tom Yum soup, and drunken noodles. The food here is hot and so fresh. The Roti is deliciously crispy, and the dip hits all the right notes of sweet and just a bit spicy. I really loved the soup as well, especially after adding some chili oil to kick it up a notch. The lemongrass broth is excellent and a great way to start a meal. The noodles are the star, with a fantastic portion and an excellent, fresh sauce. I'm excited to go back and try the Pad Thai I saw on someone else's table!! The in-person service, however, leaves something to be desired. We were seated for a table of three and spent over two hours in the restaurant, for entrees and drinks (no desserts or appetizers). We also were unable to order any cocktails due to staffing issues. I completely understand being understaffed and hold nothing against the great crew that worked hard to serve us. They even brought us an order of spring rolls free of charge when they realized how long we'd been waiting! A repeater for sure The midnight beef-- meat was high quality, favors were dar quieter. Not the ultra-peppered dish common in szechuan restaurants. Alone, I might have let it go, but against the red curried shrimp, it offered needed moments of respite from the heat. And the waiter, chef, owner, dunno-- a generous storyteller who engaged us and our questions about sauces and cooking, and ingredients and how and where she learned to cook and ... This is not a quiet space. It's a warehouse, think Soho loft. Big ceilings, concrete, and a lots of echoing space between tables. If your seeking lean-over table where you'll conduct quiet transactions, exchange microfiche and state secrets, this is not the place. But it is certainly decorated in the moment, with Room Around you, in a brightly lit space. And that is most welcome for an eat-in experience. One Update, 2 weeks later with a takeout order. Whatever wait time you are quoted, add at least 50%. Arriving at 45min (told 30-40m), I am told it's another 20min, after 10min of waiting. I saw the same for others. I've been meaning to try Pineapples for a while now and I'm so glad that I finally got the chance too. It was good! The inside of the restaurant is open and spacious compared to most places downtown. They also have decent outdoor seating. And the price point was reasonable for the good portions and quality. Thai food is my favorite and I enjoyed my experience here. I tried the Punim Pok Pok Salad, Drunken Noodle, Salmon Chu Chee, and Mango with Sweet Sticky Rice. Everything was tasty and good! The Punim Pok Pok Salad consisted of a soft-shell crab on a bed of papaya salad. The flavors were delicious. There was a nice balance of sweetness and spiciness to the dish, as well as a balance between the light freshness of the salad and fried soft-shell crab. For entrees, I tried the Salmon Chu Chee and Drunken Noodle with Chicken. The Salmon Chu Chee was tasty. The salmon was cooked well, and the red curry sauce had a nice hearty and robust flavor. The curry sauce was on the thicker side and not watery which I also really liked. The Drunken Noodle was good but not the best I've ever had. It had a nice spiciness to it. I also tried the Mango with Sweet Sticky Rice. It was good and perfect to order in the summer because the mango was sweet. The dessert also had a nice presentation. Overall, Pineapples is a new favorite Thai restaurant for me in Charlottesville. I was impressed with the dishes I tried, and I can't wait to come back and taste more of their menu. read more

What a great addition to the Thai restaurant scene in C'ville. The layout is simple and clean. The food is complex, fresh and different than most of my other Thai favorites around. We got a chicken satay appetizer and the peanut sauce was wonderfully balanced and a very large portion. The green papaya, green bean salad with soft shell crab was just the right amount of tangy and crunchy, the yellow curry noodle dish was excellent and we added tofu and extra veggies. Came here for restaurant week where you can get a three course meal for $35, so me and my fiancé did that. For the appetizer we both got fried pork gyoza and it was delicious, we wished there was more. We got the flank steak for our entree and LOVED it. I havent had meat that good in a long time, would HIGHLY recommend getting this. The sauce that came with the entree was very spicy as well, just how I like it.
