Pad see ew with tofu (7/5/2025)
    Laura E.

Great find in St. Paul! We made a reservation and were seated immediately. Waiter was friendly and gave good recommendations. We had the pad see ew with tofu, red curry with chicken (I think? we went last month/July 2025), and the curry puffs. Prices were reasonable. Although we were seated near the front, it wasn't super noisy. After we left, we noticed the restaurant was busier so we were smart to make a 5:30 pm reservation. I just moved to MN for a new job and look forward to my next visit!

I have been looking for a Thai place ever since my favorite one went higher in prices and smaller in portions. Honestly we were on our way to burger place and all of a sudden we see this restaurant we haven't seen before and Thai sounded really good! We were lucky to find street parking and when we entered we were greeted and didn't have a reservation but were able to get seated. It definitely felt a tiny bit more fancy than your usual casual place. I decided to try their green curry and added shrimp as my protein. I also went for the level one spice which did still have a slight kick but nothing that was overpowering. I thought that spice level was actually perfect because it enhanced the re rest of the flavors. The curry flavor was SO SO SO DELICIOUS! I could eaten a whole bucket honestly. It was such a flavorful dish and thought the shrimp were cooked perfectly as well and it paired perfectly. For dessert we enjoyed the fried banana slices with a toasted coconut ice cream which was out of this world. Look I would describe myself as a person that falls on the emotional side and when I took a bite of the fried banana slices with toasted coconut ice cream my eyes started swelling up with tears. It was a dessert that looked so simple but was exceptional in flavor. Service was great and I thought the ambiance was very modern with delicious food and a perfect place for a date night. Now we recommend this place to any friends who are craving Thai. I know we will be back here and hopefully this week because this cold weather makes me want to have something warm !

Went here with a friend who has celiac disease and was impressed by the number of gluten free options and clearly labeled menu. She enjoyed the pineapple fried rice (which came in an actual pineapple) and I had yellow curry. The food was tasty and portions were large enough to have leftovers. The interior is a little bit stark and uninviting, which was a strange contrast to the food. Service was pretty typical.

Needed to find a Thai place close to my place. Was craving Panang. I came in for a table of one for dinner. The place was nice had tables for one . The portion for the curry was a lot for dinner and the spice was as spicy as.they don't substitute supposedly but still decent .ill try it again but definitely helped my craving .

We've been searching for a new Thai place for a while in the Twin Cities. The place I used to go to in downtown St Paul is now not as good and more expensive. True Thai in Minneapolis close lid years ago now. Been trying to find a replacement ever since. Coconut Thai in St. Paul is it! Let's start with the excellent food. I had the Thai basil fried rice with tofu. Best I've ever had with an insane amount for leftovers. Heat level was perfect for me at the "mild" level. Wife got shrimp green curry and it was tremendous as well. However, the highlight of the meal was dessert. Fried bananas with coconut ice cream and chocolate sauce. Unreal. The ice cream had real coconut toasted shavings and the bananas were cooked to perfection. Seriously one of the better desserts I've ever had. Served was super nice and the pace was welcoming. Let's talk about value though. We got all of this for roughly $60 INCLUDING tip. It's like I went back in time 15 years for value. We'll be back many times!!!

Delicious and welcoming. The curry and tofu were amazing and our appetizers fantastic. The calamari was crisp and perfectly done.

We stopped in for lunch (group of seven), and had a nice table to ourselves. It was a great stop for a medium-duration lunch, and the portions were generous! I ordered the vegetarian spring rolls, which were massive (and kept well as leftovers). Their satisfying crunch was refreshing on a hot afternoon. Of course, I also had the panang curry, which was good and hot and flavorful, so it was a perfect pairing.

Small restaurant right on grave Ave St. Paul- Surprisingly busy for a Monday lunch time - very loud in here and echoed noise Service was a little slow but they were friendly enough Food portions are basically dinner entrees so be aware if ordering at lunch you will be taking home leftovers The Penang red curry is delicious but I was not a fan of the drunken noodles The spring rolls were excellent but the fried egg rolls were not a favorite The pineapple fried rice looks amazing and if you like sweet with savory you will enjoy it I would come back here if craving Thai food in the area

One of the best thai places to go to in Saint Paul. Great ambience and the seating area. I never really had to wait to be seated here. Their signature pineapple fried rice and pad kee mao are definitely the best! The spice levels are good too, i ordered a 4 level spicu pad kee mao and really enjoyed the added flavor to the food. So order accordingly. Always love the food and great service!

Amazing Thai food! Everything comes hot and the portions are huge and totally worth it. Inside it's clean, modern and a large space. We didn't have a reservation for a Friday night but were able to get seated right away. I started with a Thai iced tea and we (party of 3) shared the chicken satay as a starter. The iced tea was perfectly sweet and the satay, which comes with 4 pieces was delicious. For my entree I got the pad see yew with chicken. They have a spice scale from 1-5 with 5 being Thai spicy. I ordered a level 4 and thought it was the perfect amount of spice, but I usually handle spice well. The portion was big enough that I had plenty to take home. Our waiter was very friendly and checked on us often. There's street parking right on grand Ave or any of the neighborhood streets. Overall an amazing dinner and I definitely see myself coming back!

Parking was limited, for some reason, I couldn't find the lot that people were writing about in the back but I was able to find street parking after a few minutes. We got huge portions of food, which definitely made us happy. We both ordered our own chicken satay dish, and the chicken was pretty meaty. He had the Tom Kha soup and we thought it would be a bowl but not a ginormous bowl that we got. Overall, everything was good including the quality. The service was excellent, they took our order and our food came out relatively quickly.

Young ginger stir fry and tofu pad thai
    Caitlin L.

Coconut Thai looks unassuming on the outside but inside you're met with a lively atmosphere and great food (not to mention massive portions). I got the young ginger stir fry with chicken which comes with a heaping side of jasmine rice and my partner got the pad thai with tofu. We both loved our meals and had no edits. The spiciness levels are true to scale so don't be shy. We ordered the stir fry at a spiciness of 1 out of 5 fearing that these scale would be pretty intense (it was not) and while tasty, more spice would have been fine. The pad thai was a 3 out of 5 and only marginally more spicy than the 1. The service was great. We received our food very quickly and the staff was eager to help. Great restaurant. Will definitely go back!

We went before a show at the Amsterdam bar. It wasn't busy when we arrived, but the restaurant did fill in so it wouldn't be a bad idea to make a reservation if there's an event going on at the grand casino arena (formerly xcel energy center) because I could definitely see it getting busy! Their menu is clearly labeled with what's vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, and gluten-free. The staff were also knowledgeable and able to answer questions about the menu items! The decor is very cute, and there are definitely good photo ops in the restaurant when it's not too busy! As for the food: The mango sticky rice is good and a shareable portion! I have no complaints there! I ordered pad see ew as well with medium spice, which is my go-to spice level when trying a new restaurant. I really didn't notice any spice, so I would order it spicier in the future! Tofu was my protein of choice, and their tofu was very crispy which I enjoyed! There were fewer vegetables than in the pad see ew at other places (no carrots or Chinese broccoli, just regular broccoli), and it is a smaller serving size compared to some of my favorite dishes places! With that being said, I did enjoy it overall and would come back next time I'm in the area! I would try ordering with a higher level of spice and maybe try a different entree next time!

First when it was on St. Peter near 7th Street. Great buffet weekday lunch, amazing Pad Thai. We ate there Saturday afternoon and my wife and I both ordered Chicken Pad Thai. It came out dark with no onions or green onions and cooked a a ton of oil. On a scale of 1-10 it was below a1! I will never go back. $43.00 for two orders of Pad Thai and two glasses of ice water . I've ordered from On's dozens of times and they honestly deserved this review a lot sooner…read more Everything I've ever eaten from On's is authentic, delicious and bursting with flavor. I've tried numerous menu items, including their Laab, Pad-ga-pow, mango salad, pineapple curry, pad Thai and Prik Prik Moo Grop. There's another dish I've tried there that seems it's no longer on their menu but it was a curry seafood dish served in an actual coconut. It was amazing! My favorites so far are the mango salad and pad Thai. The #70 Moo Grop dish is a close one for top picks but my only complaint is the pork chunks weren't my preferred texture. The sauce, however, is a show stealer. I could literally drink it! It's that good. I've personally never had a negative eating experience with Ons but my husband did complain to me about their pineapple curry. He orders his food at the spiciest level, and I only ever tried a bite of his, but he thought it was very sour and tasted pickely. It was not the best curry I've had but I didn't think it was bad. I'm a seasoned Thai food eater - it's basically all I eat. So I've tried all of the Thai spots in the twin cities. On's is sitting in my top two. I've never eaten inside the restaurant so I can't say much for the service, but I have been in the restaurant to pick up orders and there isn't much to say for its ambiance. It's a very casual setting. My only complaint about Ons is that they serve their curry in shallow containers which makes for smaller portions. If they served their curry in soup containers and gave larger portions, they'd be my go-to spot every time. Right now, my other favorite Thai spot has them beat on curry portions. But that doesn't stop me from coming back for other menu items.

In terms of food, there is a mixture of Burmese, Thai, and Karen dishes, and each one that my friends and I have ordered has been a hit. The tea leaf salad has amazing texture because of peanuts and fried garlic, which provide crunchiness, and has amazing flavor because of lemon juice, fish sauce, and tomatoes. The noodle salad has a light taste without adding the given lime piece, and then the rich nutty taste gets evoked and elevated upon adding lime juice. The zaap crispy has very well-seasoned fried chicken pieces, and medium spice level gives it a good amount of flavor. The shan khao soi is so creamy and tasty that even tasting the curry broth itself is a sensational experience, and the chicken leg included literally has "fall off the bone" meat. The boat noodle has a mixture of sweetness and savor, while the sweet flavor does not overpower anything at all. Finally, the mohinga clearly has fish cake flavor and texture fully infused, making it authentically delicious. We also ordered the knyaw iced salad, which was a mixture of ice along with crackers and other types of sweet ingredients. I thought it was very similar to a type of Vietnamese dessert called chè ba màu (three color pudding), and fully enjoyed it. The establishment only had one dessert, and I thought that was sufficient. While the street contains many excellent restaurants, I personally believe that this establishment stands out in terms of taste. I must also mention that since my friends and I arrived when barely anyone else was there each time we had gone there, we never experienced any service delays that some have mentioned in their reviews. I probably will give this place a 5 rating anyway even if I experience slowness, although I hope I don't.
