    Pad see ew with tofu
    Laura E.

I'm visiting from out of state and the friend I'm staying with loves Thai food (as do I). I remembered how good the St. Paul location was when I went last year. We got the pad see ew and massaman curry. The pad see ew was as good as I remembered from the Stpl location. Service was friendly. Restaurant was not crowded or loud. I'd love to come back next time I'm in MN!

Coconut Thai has a fantastic, convenient location, and the service overall was good. My husband ordered the Thai stir-fried cashews with mock duck and he really enjoyed his meal. Unfortunately, my entree was a bit lackluster. I got the shrimp Pad Thai and the noodles were mushy and could have used a bit more flavor or maybe spice? I wasn't offered a choice on a spice scale when ordering and the dish ended up being very, very mild. Sadly, we weren't offered a dessert menu either, which was a bummer because I really wanted to ask if they had their fresh mango sticky rice in season. Granted it was an hour before closing so they could've been in a rush to close up shop.

Came in with cousins and Mom on a very cold night. The Menu looked a lot like a favorite place we visit in Golden Valley / Plymouth area. The good? Staff was quite nice. The food was tasty. However it felt like everything had way too much sugar added. The shrimp appetizers were great. Calamari was greasy and coating fell off the squid. Main dishes were basil tofu fried rice. Quite more sweet than expected. Panang curry was also a bit too sugary. If these dishes would have been less sweet it would have been a home run.

It's been several years since I've been here, we were shopping in the area and decided to dine here for dinner. They were busy in the evening, we had to wait an hour for a table. Which was fine, we went to check out the stores in the area to kill time. Restaurant is spacious, bright, and clean. Staff was wonderful, paid special attention to my friend peanut allergy since we ordered fried item, peanuts are fried in the same oil. Food is delicious as always. Definitely recommend this restaurant if you're in the area.

I decided to try some different things today, so I ordered the Pad See Ew with fresh tofu. I don't know how fresh tofu differs from tofu (also on the menu) but I preferred it over the chicken I had last time. It was good, but medium spice it wasn't. There was plenty of Thai basil and red & green bell pepper slices as well as onions. But it was pretty bland and the noodles were dry. It needs some kind of sauce. The cream cheese puffs are my absolute favorites because they are crispy like puff pastry and stuffed with cream cheese. For fun, I decided to try the Spring Rolls with shrimp. They were delicious, the shrimps plump - not flattened - sliced lengthwise, lotsa lettuce and rice noodles. I would have liked more cilantro, but then I always want more.

Went up to Coconut Thai last weekend. The limeade I drank was really good and as someone who usually doesn't eat Thai food I enjoyed pineapple fried rice. The service was ehhh, not bad, but not the best. But I would love to come back and try other things on the menu!

Coconut Thai is one of my favorite Thai restaurants by far! The curry puffs are a delicious savory burst of flavor with a crispy outer crust! You can order dishes on the menu with varying spice levels. We get the Drunken Noodles medium spice which is the perfect amount of heat, but not quite burning your tongue off, and the Panang Curry mild. Their dishes come in large portions that are perfect for sharing! The staff is always very friendly and the food comes out in a timely manner.

    Fresh tofu and veggies!

I have been here three days in a row for takeout. Why? The flavor, freshness, and portion sizes cannot be beat. Rarely, do you find a food container FILLED with the items you ordered like fresh tofu and veggies. Here, your spoon will always be weighted with food. They do not use styrofoam either and bag up your items in a cute, reuseable tote. LOVE this place!

Good, not great. We tried Coconut Thai for my son's birthday. All in all, it was pretty decent food, but nothing that we would go out of our way for. If you're nearby, definitely try it. It's definitely a popular place, and service was good. It's beer and wine only. Everyone in our group enjoyed the appetizers and entrees. We didn't try any desserts since we had cake waiting at home.

I was really looking forward to finally making it here after hearing so many good things but to be totally honest, it didn't exceed expectations. I'm not sure it totally met them either. I'm a huge Thai food fan, we usually order takeout and I was excited to finally order in-restaurant. The cream cheese wontons were really the only excellent thing - everything else was just "ok" and lacked a lot of flavor. I figured the red curry would have some sort of kick to it but it tasted mainly bland. I'm gonna stick with Nai's Thai moving forward.

I'm glad I didn't get much spicier, because that was plenty spicy for me. The flavors were great, the meat and vegetables were plentiful, and I really enjoyed their green eggplant that they included in the dish. It came with rice. I also got to try the Pad Thai (with chicken), Pad See Ew (with tofu), Pad Woon Sen (with pork), and Papaya Salad. I enjoyed all of them, but the Pad Woon Sen was probably my favorite because of the savory flavors. The Pad Thai and Pad See Ew had hints of sweetness, which is to be expected, but both were also enjoyable. I always enjoy the thick noodles of the Pad See Ew. The Papaya Salad also had a great mix of savory (fish sauce), acid, and sweet. The mango sweet sticky rice was also tasty- it was definitely sweet, but a nice way to end the meal. We ordered to go, and it took about 25 minutes for them to prepare the food, which they told us in advance. Great Thai food!

So much has changed in uptown I used to be able to park right in front of this restaurant and walk right in. There's absolutely no parking on that street anymore especially right in front and all the stores are either boarded up or completely sitting empty which is insane. There used to be an Apple Store next-door of Victoria's Secret store next-door and it's completely all just empty. I love that this restaurant is like still standing. This place used to have the best happy hour back in the day so hopefully I will have to check out their happy hour menu one of these days.
