    Vegan Burrito

Okay. So this place has amazing food and really, really good service. WHY did I only give three stars? Because. They don't have complimentary refills on their FOUNTAIN drinks AND although the first serving of chips and salsa is free you have to pay for additional servings. I will never understand why a restaurant will charge for refills on a fountain drinks and I will NEVER understand a Mexican joint charging me for ANY chips and salsa. So... my what would have been a five star review is sadly only three. I got the pozole. Omgoodness. SO GOOD. So hearty and the flavors... Just yum. My husband got a vegan burrito and he stated it was delicious. Their rice... some of the best rice I've had from any Mexican spot. The tortillas are good. Just. Everything. So good. The bathroom was decent and there is a lot for parking.

This is the place to go if you want a really good taco dinner. Got the taco dinner with a frozen margarita the frozen drink was ok but the food so good. The steak , chicken. Pork taco so good The ground beef is ok taste like chili And then the guacamole is not bad need some seasoning

The place is very authentic. I didn't really like the steak fajitas it had some kind of weird sauce on it and the rice was dry. My friend enjoyed the chicken tacos and the margarita was good. The place needs a good cleaning and paint job inside. I would definitely try out other spots in the area before I come here again. And if I do im definitely not ordering the fajitas

Steak Enchiladas suizas with beans and rice.

My family lives nearby and has routinely visited Cocula for years. Ironically, this was my first visit. My partner and I ordered the steak enchiladas and carne en su Jugo, which were both especially flavorful. The margaritas were spirit forward, but not overbearing. Not a fan of the $2.00 fee for refills of chips and salsa refill, but I would return for a satisfying meal.

My beans tasted a little scorched but everything else was on point! I brought my three children here too and they loved the Steak Quesadilla, rice, and virgin Pina Coladas! I have been coming here for over ten years and always get a Pina Colada. I stepped outside my normal box and ordered a Sangria! It was delish and strong! I ordered my normal Enchiladas Suizas with Mole Sauce which was great minus the scorched beans. Tell the Chef to handle the beans with a little more care!

    Grilled shrimp with garlic

I'm not impressed. First off, I love Cocula. I frequent the Commercial location weekly. I order the same thing, grilled shrimp with garlic and frozen lime margarita. I like what I like. And today, this location failed to deliver. The margarita machine is broken and they served me margarita float. I should have taken a picture before I sent it back, twice. There is an oil residue in my plate. I've never experienced that before. The shrimp isn't seasoned well. I'm writing this review as I wait for my check. I don't think I'll visit this location again. The chef came out after I posted my review (I'm sure it was because the waitress told him what I said) and offered to remake the meal differently. He explained that the oil was from the garlic. I definitely appreciated it since I hadn't asked for anything other than the check. And it was what I was accustomed to.

well after losing my phone and eating a hamburger earlier i was invited to try this mexican restaurant my friend knows since he came to remember his brothers birthday despite passing away. it has been a tradition i think for him and his family. it has also been a familiar tradition for his relatives to dine here so i was invited. it was ok. it was not the best but it was ok. the salsa and chips they offered were fresh but after the first round you have to pay extra on the menu. i ordered the fajitas bistec and it was an interesting way they cooked it. i never knew big chunks of cucumbers they would use on the vegetable salad part. i would expect cilantro which it was lacking. i guess they do not include too much guacamole for my dish as well which everything else was traditional and good. i did not get a chance to check in which i usually do but was using my mom's phone and do not want to logged in to yelp with another android. i would try this again but in the meantime 3 stars for my experience.

I've been a Cocula customer since moving to Chicago 23 years ago, eating here and the east side locations, and I'm sorry to say there is a noticeable quality difference over the last 18-24 months. Tonight, everyone in our party of 7 had cold rice and beans, and surprisingly, they charge extra for chips & salsa, no beans with shrimp fajitas, no veggies with caldo de pescado o marisco - I had never heard "NO" so much in my life. My mom in from Atlanta, couldn't wait to return to Chicago for dinner at Cocula, but after tonight, she never wants to return.

What happened to the original horchata flavor? This had the best horchata in town, now it tastes like a store bought powder mix.

Not as good as when you dine in. There wasn't much garlic on the garlic crusted shrimp. It was camarones de mojo de ajo.

The service, specifically from the bartender, was extremely unwelcoming and rude. I initially came in for takeout, but decided to sit down at a table to look over the menu. Instead of being greeted or assisted, I was met with an unfriendly attitude and uncomfortable stares. When my partner asked for a large glass of water while we decided on our order, he was given a very small glass, which felt dismissive and unprofessional. It's unfortunate because the food itself isn't bad, but the customer service completely takes away from the experience. The restaurant was nearly empty, which honestly reflects the level of service we received. Based on multiple visits with the same issue, I would not recommend this place. A more welcoming and customer-focused staff would make a huge difference.

They charge a gratuity of 15% for 1-4 people. For 5 or more people a 18% gratuity. I can understand a gratuity on a group but not just 1-2 people. Then charged another 3% for using a card payment. Wait, it gets better. They have a sign in their yard that says $5 margaritas everyday but charged me $11 for my virgin one. If you want to get robbed, this is the place to go.

First timer, and I thought it was a great and tasteful atmosphere. There were two sides one for dining of all ages and a bar side. The Margarita Bar & Grill was definitely in a secluded area. She informed us that the restaurant drink menus were being updated but nevertheless the frozen margaritas were a hit! We ordered the Long Island Ice-tea & the 12oz frozen berry and passion fruit margarita. They were S T R O N G & delicious! We then order traditional BBQ chicken wings for an appetizer, the chicken fajitas along with my Carne en su jugo ( beans bacon, onions, green salsa, chopped ribeye) the soup was off the chain! The spicy and meaty aromas gave the soup soo much umami flavors! Yes, I ordered a soup at a Mexican restaurant and one shrimp taco! The soup was very filling and taco was good.
