One of the best spots for tacos in the Lansing area. The humble owner is hands-on in the kitchen and personally engages with customers, often stopping to chat. I've never seen him take a day off, nor have I seen anyone else come into the kitchen on his behalf. He truly exemplifies a "mom and pop" business in the area. He mentioned that he starts making his habanero sauce and other spicy sauces at 4 AM daily, as he handles all the prep work himself. This place is only doing take outs which is great , and they have the door open for ventilation , and the kitchen is so stinking clean it's ridiculous so another plus . I been passing by this place for 5 years and never paid no mind to it , I'm not fond of any of the Mexican restaurants around the Lansing, Illinois area but I really have been in the mood for authentic non Americanized nachos. I've had Mexican all over the world, including the hotspots of Mexico, Peru, Texas, California, and the midwest. This place is legit, and is one of my favorite ones. The service was excellent, the food delicious, the ingredients excellent. While not the least expensive meal, it's certainly inexpensive, and I don't mind paying a bit more for the use of quality ingredients. I bought the legua burrito, in the largest size, and left a couple bucks tip, and it still cost me $15 or so. Easily, enough food for two people, if I wasn't such a glutton. One thing I always try at Mexican spots is the al pastor. The al pastor here was bland. But maybe al pastor isnt what this place does great. The service here is great. Very friendly upon entering this establishment, checked out their reviews and needed some lengua tacos so being from Chicago we had to see if they were authentic enough to our liking. (The husband and I) so we ordered a steak burrito and a taco dinner and as the husband chatted with the gentleman on the grill who we both assumed was the owner he was very proud and insisted we would enjoy our meal. Even walked up to the counter and gave my husband a cup with lengua (beef tongue) in it to try as he prepped our food. We were so anxious we opened up our bag and started to eat in our vehicle and I can honestly say the tacos were beyond our expectations! Seasoned and flavorful and this to me is a very big shock knowing we frequent Little Village and Pilsen our wholes lives eating this as well as preparing this ourselves so just wanna say please go and try this spot!! Came out for the first time today and would go back for sure. This is a small taqueria, but has a couple small tables and stools. The prices were good. I had ordered a steak tacos, burritos, tortas and rice and beans. The rice and beans tasted authentic and not out of a can or what not. The steak had a good flavor and what not tough. They do a double tortilla for their tacos, so they are very filling. The super burrito was a decent size and their guacamole was excellent. We are going back for sure. read more

We went to this place on a holiday weekend, largely because it was one of the only places open and I was in the mood for Mexican food for breakfast. It is a small storefront in a strip mall. It was cold and rainy and I was in the mood for none of that, I got a three taco dinner- all I can say is WOW! I have not food that good since my paternal grandmother. The tongue was some of the best I have had and I recommend it over the other proteins for the tacos. the chorizo and eggs were excellent. The staff was friendly and the food on point. I mean it's good, but not blow your mind good. Perhaps I simply got an off day meal. I don't remember if it was my steak taco or al pastor that had an almost inedible gristle to it, but it ruined the meal for me. In addition, it all tasted a bit under seasoned. We came to this restaurant as the result of a recommendation. From the moment I stepped in the door I was impressed with the friendliness of the owner and in particular, his wife. The simplicity of the surroundings are completely overwhelmed by the cleanliness and atmosphere created by the genuine sense of warmth and welcome. You are served some really fresh (and complimentary) salsa which has an underlying trail of heat, along with yellow corn tortilla chips while you wait. I had the taco dinner, a large guacamole & chips. The meats (there's about 6 fillings to choose from) were tender and well seasoned. The fresh cilantro and salsa will bowl you over. The guacamole was creamy, fresh and delicious. The meal is served with very tender rice and refried beans which were delicious. We have a few genuine Mexican restaurants in the area, but Taqueria La Soga has something different about it, maybe a few things that make it stand out as better. I intend to try everything on the menu. There's something that invites you to do just that. I think love and caring are a big part of what they do here. Maybe that's the big difference. What a great little place! First off: this is a small taqueria--a couple of tables and a small bar. No restroom. Service was friendly and quick, even with a busy takeout service.
