I received no less than 6 emails and texts to remind me of the appointment and to pay the copay, which I prepaid online. After I left work early and waited 1.5 hr at BMC, someone came to tell me that they cannot see me today because they did not receive the images from my prior mammogram, and I needed to reschedule. You couldn't have told me that 1.5 hr ago? I could've contacted the other clinic within the last 1.5 hr to have them send the images over. Whose responsibility is it to get the images? When I booked the appointment, I made sure to tell them my original mammogram was from another clinic. No one followed up with me. No one asked me to sign a release. They sure sent me enough reminders to get their money though. When I asked for my money back, I had to wait to "talk to the manager." They could not give me my money back, but told me to call the 800 number for BMC's billing dept. No, thank you! I'm not wasting any more of my time with BMC. I just disputed the charge with my credit card. This is not the standard of care that I would expect even at a small local rundown hospital, let alone what they claim they are at BMC. If you are looking for a high standard of care and a team that follows up and follows through, BMC is not it. My husband also had many bad experiences with BMC making appointments in the wrong department and cancelling on him without notice. When you are dealing with cancer or potential cancer patients, it doesn't seem to matter to them. Time is not of the essence. As long as they get their money, they're all good. Do yourself a favor. Go somewhere else. There are much better hospitals in Boston.

It's your average community health center…read more Pediatrics (when I used to go) was ok, but the doctor's do talk to children about their weight pretty aggressively; I always hated that. Adult Medicine is so-so. I've had some good PCP's but the sad thing is that they always leave. I've had 4 PCP's in maybe 2 years or less. Very few doctors there stick around. The wait time to be seen can be pretty crazy too. Late appointments go faster. OB/GYN is really good. It can take awhile for you to get an appointment if you have an urgent health issue since they only really give those to pregnant women. But they will advise you over the phone about what to do until your appointment. Most of the doctor's are very nice, I prefer the nurse practitioners though, they seem more friendly. The wait time doesn't take long and neither does the visit. Dental is a hassle and I gave up after trying to book an appointment after I got x-rays done (one appointment just for that). I'd go somewhere else for dental. I haven't been to eye care as an adult so I don't know how they are. The pharmacy is efficient. They don't usually run out of meds and have to order them like CVS and Walgreens do. They're pretty fast if you call them in. A bit of a weight if you see the doctors upstairs and they send the prescription down electronically, but still not bad. They don't take outside prescriptions though from from a provider thats not at dimock. The Mental Health dept. is horrible! Rude psychiatrists that just give you whatever medication they want to try that month. And the therapist are aloof and start to be judgmental if you see them for too long. Go to Arbour for mental health. I'll be returning for regular exams ( mostly just OB/GYN and Adult Medicines) and some of my prescriptions are there, but if I want better care I go to Beth Israel, its their affiliate hospital.

I truly felt the kindness in your words and demeanor. I did however had a great experience with a medical assistant there. She was a sweetheart. You have to say the good also. Thank you so much!! What happened to the clinic? I had to go get an EKG Tuesday 3/24/26 at 11:15 am and the customer service was so unprofessional to say the least. The way they spoke to me and among each other was very disrespectful. It all started at the 1st floor the wellness department and the person a the desk seemed bothered that I was there. He made a call to the behavior department to ask why a little doctor keeps sending patients there. When they figured out i was supposed to go to the 3rd floor. He got surprised when i answered him in Spanish. Almost afraid because I understood everything he was talking to the person on the phone. It only got worse on the 3rd floor when a nurse was acting very upset and said "they need to stop sending f***ing patients up here" to another employee sitting at the desk at the same time she was making eye contact with me. So I asked if she had a problem? Just so managers are aware you are NOT supposed to swear in front of patients especially in front of children. I suffer from severe depression and anxiety and PTSD and this visit just made it a lot worse. I even called my mother who is also a patient at this clinic and asked if she also goes through similar situations when she goes in. She said all the time and she is thinking about changing clinics. Please know I used to be a nurse at Beth Israel Hospital and I never ever treated any patients the way I was treated Tuesday. I am speechless and saddened by the treatment I received and many other patients witnessed the same treatment. I was not the only one. Please consider rehiring people and maybe having customer service training. And please have a talk with the nurse on the 3rd floor on the green side. I have an appointment on Monday with my psychiatrist and I will let him know what happened.

We knew about WSHC from my colleague and decided to give it a shot since he was desperate. Surprisingly, my husband was able to be seen that day, with 3 follow-ups scheduled as well. My husband was left with an out-of-pocket balance, however, the staff was able to assist him with his MassHealth application. We left the clinic after about 2 hours. In that 2 hours, my husband received an emergency exam, scheduled follow-up appointments, and a completed app for MassHealth. 3 Business days later his MassHealth card came in the mail. I was shocked, grateful, and happy with our experience at Whittier St and would recommend them, especially to anyone without insurance.

BUT I cannot stand this office. I won't even hide my frustration. 1.) one time while I was sat down to get a shot I asked for, I noticed she was setting up the wrong vile because I had the medicine on me. When she was about to prick me, I kindly asked if it was my depo because it looks different. She looked confused and asked why I didn't want something or other shot. I looked at her and said because I don't know what that is, I have an allergy to certain meds, and I just wanted my depo. 2.) one time I was sent to get my medication at a cvs and waited 40 mins to find out not only did they send me to the wrong location when I specifically had asked but they also hadn't sent it through to the correct location. 3.) the next time I come in and had called in advance to make sure I was scheduled and they had sent my order for my medicine through and when I arrived they said I had no appointment and couldn't give it too me. So I had to come back the next day. I came Back the next day after rearranging everything and of course the prescription hadn't been sent through. So it took an extra 40 mins while. I went to go get my depo from the cvs up the road. 4.) two days I called and asked to schedule an appointment for my depo shot. I asked if I should call before hand to make sure the prescription would be sent through. The lady on my phone assured me that everything was ok and it would be sent through. I said perfect, can you please be able to also schedule me for a physical? She said of course she would and seemed so nice. Then I arrive and my physical wasn't scheduled, was told I should have used the site and written them a message rather than called. I figured speaking to an actual person would be the best bet but CLEARLY I was wrong. I also found out that my prescription was not sent through. So now I am waiting for my prescription and have to wait about 3 hours for a physical which I was told I was lucky to have found this slot. No, I would be lucky if just ONE appointment would go right. I'm beyond irritated. Again doctor Melville is the only saving grace. Him alone I give 5 stars and same with the nice lady who draws blood, but everything else about this place is horrible and I'm now dreading every appoint I have to make!

Back home I managed to find the best doctor ever- this little Belgian woman who was thorough, funny, and had an office with amazing support staff. I was worried about finding a doctor to meet my very high standards. Most of the time you don't think of the BMC for high quality care- it is located right next to a meth clinic and we've seen the people walking around the South End with their plastic "patient belongings" bags. But then I found the Women's Health Group. It's a group of doctor's completely dedicated to women's health issues. No boys allowed! My very good friend, who is a med student, recommended them to me. I couldn't be happier. I currently see Dr. McKinney. She's awesome. Attentive, caring, and really knows what she is doing. I feel safe and comfortable with her. Now all my girlfriends go to the clinic and all are incredibly happy with their practitioners. The only downside is the scheduling- sometimes it is very hard to get an appointment with the quickness. BMC has a huge patient base and you are competing with a lot of people who need help more than say, my privileged south end ass. But, I was surprised how hard they worked to get me in- all I needed was a script filled and even though I hadn't officially had an exam with the doc they let me come in for a short appointment to get things situated. Regardless of the scheduling this place gets five stars. People deserve ten stars for dealing with me when trying to get my blood drawn. I'm one of those fainters. They had the smelling salts all ready to go.

I went in for lab work, I was told I'd get results "within a week", both by the front desk and by their website. The day after I got an automatic email with a web-based account (mychart.bmc.org), where I could check my results when they were ready. Awesome & efficient, I think. 2 weeks later there were no results online (and still aren't 3 months after my visit). I called, and they gave me my results on the phone, with an attitude like they were just sitting on them for the last few days waiting for me to do exactly this -- call them when I thought they might be ready. I don't know what's worse -- making patients wait extra time to find out results, or how crappy it would be for someone with some major disease to have the front desk confirm their name on the phone and then give them their results in earshot of anyone waiting in the lobby ("Oh Mrs. Jane Doe? Last four digits of your social? 5555...let me check...yes, you came back positive for HIV. When can we schedule a follow up appointment?") What's the point of your online system if you don't use it? I still don't have any official lab results from my visit, either online or mailed to me, so if a partner wants you to show them a clean bill of health you are S.O.L. if you come to get tested here. Keep that in mind. 2) They are outrageously priced. The testing work is indeed free (I think), but that's it. I got an invoice after my visit showing they tried to collect over $60 from my insurance, got $40 (i.e. the MAXIMUM REASONABLE AMOUNT insurance thinks it should cost), and were billing me for the remainder. When I checked on it, the bill was actually for pharmacy services -- a single dose antibiotic to be exact, with a common retail price of $8-$10 in most pharmacies, but over $60 from them. I have no idea why it is so much higher. Maybe they insist on using brand name instead of generic, it wasn't discussed and I wasn't really given an option when they gave me the drugs in the clinic so I can't say. So just be mindful of this if you receive any treatments in the clinic, which is regular practice to do for common STDs before lab results are completed if you are high-risk -- i.e. you had contact with a partner who later informed you they found out they have an STD, which is probably why you're going to get tested in the first place. If you get treated there, you'll pay through the nose, especially if you came in without insurance because you thought it was all free. Maybe you'd be better off asking for a prescription for any drugs they want to give you, taking it to a pharmacy and paying 85% less -- do you really need a doctor coaching you on how to take a pill? Great medical staff, but an administrative cluster-F.
