Poor standards of hospitality mar one of the lesser independent coffee houses in Kingston. First, a familiar complaint; there are no outlets in the cavernous Princess Street location, as they don't want people's custom for longer than the battery life of a laptop. I'm sure that this is done to curtail people from camping; However, I would not be tempted even if I had the longest battery and strongest wifi in the world! Staff is standoffish, not particularly knowledgeable, and amateur, throwing chairs about in a noisy display of cleaning during off-hours (crumbs and flies on any given surface in the eating area attest that this is a Belasco-level piece of set furnishing, and I won't start on the state of the washrooms) and hectoring sitting customers when it is busy. The lack of expertise behind and in front of the espresso machine may be due to the high turnover rate, with a nearly perennial 'hiring' sign in the window. Since I started coming to Coffee and Company (ummmm, since 2012? what a decade!) I've seen dozens of new faces behind the counter, which in hindsight I realize never bodes well for customer service. Perhaps baristas are treated as poorly as customers by management. My sympathies go with them. The food offerings are limited and a pretty penny, but while 'regulars' who seem transient and dirty can stay as long as they like once they buy a single coffee, the manager (owner?) may ask you to leave if you bring a packaged chocolate bar with you (they no longer seem to carry Godiva products, sadly) to keep your blood sugar up while waiting for the food rush to subside. Of course, there should be room for paying customers in a coffee house, and nobody is debating this. In a half-empty and large space, there is no danger of three or four newcomers finding seats. Having seen large groups of bikers take up several tables during busy mornings, touting only complimentary ice water, I can't imagine what would have prompted the miserly display of rudeness received today. The Princess Street location of Coffee and Company has been one of my favourite places to go over the years, in proximity to work and shopping while also feeling somewhat off the beaten path. I will continue to cherish memories of long and interesting conversations with good company or solitary afternoons with a good book in the warm space, but I will not be returning after today. So to sum up: for the sake of five or six dollars, a years-long habit will be ended cold turkey. Apparently this is good business sense. I think it's short-sighted and magpie-like. I am sure that the location and the novelty of non-mermaid caffeine and lovely teas will keep this location afloat amongst fresh students, tourists, and others new to Kingston during the school semester. Those with a propensity to return during the summer or winter holidays, who would also prefer to be treated with a modicum of decency can find all of this -- and an outlet! -- at the Starbucks the next block up for a comparable price. If you don't like Pike Place, you can find unique and delicious food and drink at Cacao 70 and CoffeEco on King Street, near Market Square. There are a great many interesting offerings at Crave on Princess Street (by the Novel Idea!) and bakers with the talent and expertise worth an upcharge! Interesting folks, pleasant and knowledgeable staff and the ability to bring any outside food you like will be found at Musiiki on Brock Street and Balzac's further up on Princess. All of these businesses far better represent what Kingston has to offer as a city which welcomes many and can have the hospitality and long memory to match. read more

Fantastic location, beautiful decor, friendly staff. The Godiva chocolates don't hurt either :) Great selection of chocolates, and they always go oh-so-well with coffee... I usually get the dark roast coffee, which I know will be good. This place is always, always busy. I've gone to study on Sunday evenings or meet with friends for coffee on weeknights. I had to leave once because there were no seats available and a supervisor and I were meeting to review some work. If you can find a seat, this place is great. read more

This is a spacious cafe with huge windows letting in a lot of sunlight. I had an americano and a sandwich, both of which were really good. I liked the fact that everything was served on proper heavy dishware when the barista found out I was eating in. Seriously, coffee in a mug tastes so much better. The chairs and tables were rather sparse but it was a comfortable space to read or study. 4 stars, but you get one star off for not being wheelchair friendly. Stairs to go to the ordering counter? I'm always skeptical of places with the baked goods wrapped in saran wrap. How long have they been sitting out for? Also, excessive supply of torani syrups assures me that drinks are made to taste good with the addition of artificial flavour and not skills or quality of ingredients. In my seemingly never ending quest for coffee, I've frequented Coffee and Co quite a few times. They have a slew of different brews on the go on a given day (everything from your standard light roast to more fancy sounding dark roasted blends) and if you grab a cup and stick around, refills are only 10 cents! Jitter city here I come! Plenty of space to spread out and camp out with your computer for the day and bogart their free wifi. Most are table and chair tops but they also have some snuggly looking couches set up. They also have tasty biscotti and treats, haven't really ever had a capital M meal there though. Only complaint would be that the bathrooms are oddly cold in the winter time. Overall, good for a coffee date or just to hack away at the books. I went for the first time on a very quiet Sunday night and ordered a triple hot chocolate. That is - white, dark, and milk chocolate blended together with whipped cream and chocolate shavings on top. Ohhh my! It was heaven. Pair that with chocolate biscotti or a Godiva chocolate truffle and sit back and enjoy your Epic Chocolate Experience. Oh, I hear the espresso is pretty good here too. Love this place for its atmosphere and the coffee is fantastic but the service can be on the slower side. If you're in a hurry stick to pre brewed coffee but if you're not in a rush, grab an almond milk cappucino! (My favourite and this is the best you'll get at any of the DT coffee shops) read more

This place used to be really cozy, with mismatched chairs and a lot of personality. It was renovated a while ago and now it's much more nondescript. It's still a nice place to go, with good service and drinks, but it has lost its spark for me. read more

Ordered a coffee & 2 peanut butter balls to go. Coffee was good but, don't like how the lids, condiments are on the other side of the stairs. The Peanut Butter balls...who knows how long they had been sitting there! To my dismay, when I opened the bag the choc was looking very old. Took a bite anyway & got a mouthful of mushy old fridge taste....YUCK! Into the garbage they went. Honestly, this place wasn't that great. It is pretty bare with lots of simple little tables and chairs right in the middle of a plain room, walls that desperately need painting, and a few sparse paintings on the wall. I honestly felt like I was sitting in a cafeteria drinking my coffee. The coffee itself was okay but nothing special. There were a couple comfortable lounge chairs but they were absolutely FILTHY. The one thing I can say is the girls behind the counter were friendly and bubbly and the jazz they were playing softly over the speakers was nice. Beside the cash register there is a CD for sale. My friend teased the girls and asked if they had made the CD, the answer was a straight faced yes, which sort of made my day. :-) Overall a mediocre experience. Coffee and Co does such a great Americano! The space is great; open, airy and plenty of sun. It's a great early-bird spot for quiet reading or working on your laptop, but the ambient noise of midday can be nice as well. A great place to get work done, huge space with lots of windows and good people watching. Not my favourite spot to get a coffee though and their food items are pretty expensive. They do have ice cream which is a plus. Their baked goods are pretty average, I find that sometimes their baked goods like the muffins are actually pretty dry so not sure if that's because they've been sitting out a while. Coffee and Co is centrally located downtown near all the shops which is super convenient. It has a nice atmosphere and is a really great place to get some work done (the wifi is also fairlyy fast). It is a bit expensive, but worth it for the quality of coffee! The baked goods are ok, I wish there were a few more food options but in general it does the job. I hit this place up on a regular basis, I think they have some of the best coffee and snacks in town. Staff is always friendly and get you out in no time they put they big corporate places to shame on all levels. In the summer they have great ice cream too. Highly recommend. read more
