A lovely brunch spot that my friend and I really enjoyed. My boyfriend actually recommended it since he works in Kingston from time to time, and whenever he's in town he always tries to stop by. We got the Turkey Focaccia, peach bbq pork buns and Mediterranean eggs. Everything we had tasted was super fresh and delicious. The soup of the day was tomato, and you could really tell it was made fresh and not from a can. Their bread and focaccia are also made in house, and the focaccia was soooo good super light, fluffy, and super flavorful. The staff was super quick and everything came out fairly quickly. Overall, everything tasted fresh and yummy, and I would definitely come back. I also want to try their coffee next time. The food at Toast & Jam is always delicious. We got lucky with the tastiest creamy tomato soup to accompany our meals. They were willing to switch the bread out on the sandwich for a focaccia, which came with no additional cost. Our glasses of water were always filled, and the server was friendly and checked up on us throughout our meal. On a weekday afternoon, the place was still relatively busy with diners, but it wasn't loud or crowded at all. The space is large and well decorated; they even have a shelf with ten different toasters on it as decor! I've been here before and I would definitely come back again. What a cute little place! I ate here late morning on a Saturday during my birthday trip to Kingston. I was seated right away. If you are a solo diner, this is a safe place. They don't treat you as if you matter less or try to stick you at a bar. The restaurant was busy but I was seated right away. There is a bakery attached, but I didn't go over since I'm gluten-free and hate looking if I don't know in advance they have goodies I can eat. I always vet my restaurants in advance with the dietary restriction and there were excellent options for those GF. I ordered the Peach, Pineapple and Coconut mimosa. I HATE peach, but she was able to make it with just the other two. They put coconut cream around the side of the glass. EXCELLENT mimosa. One of the best I ever had. I also ordered the Pork & Tomatillo Tostada. This came on these crispy corn tortillas. I'm a huge texture person...that was amazing. The pork was delicious. There were also scrambled eggs, this delicious sauce, cheese, herbs and tomatoes. Absolute yum. I would eat this every day of the week! There were also potatoes on the side, which were very tasty. Service was perfect. Brenda was my server. She made sure I had everything I needed. She did forget I was GF and brought me a cookie from the bakery. It wasn't GF, but the gesture was nice. Pretty good. This place is a bit away from the downtown area but it is worth going to imo. Known for brunch/lunch items, they have quite a big selection of stuff on the menu. They have an online waitlist so make sure to check that before heading in cause it gets quite full especially on weekends. Ordered the buttermilk pancakes ($16). 2 extremely large buttermilk pancakes, 2 pieces of apple sage sausage, some blueberry and raspberry, and ofc syrup. It was quite nice. Pancakes really fluffy, the sausage was really good as well. At the end of the day it's pancakes which aren't the most complicated item to make but they did a great job regardless. What takes it to 4 stars is the vibe. Super nice and really feels different than other places in Kingston. First, there is no reservation system. Walked in and were told 45 minute wait. Came back after 35 minutes and were told another 25 minute wait. We ordered the eggs bennie. The eggs were lukewarm when they arrived. The house bread that they were laid upon was rock hard. Fortunately they supplied steak knives to cut through but chewing the crust was a herculean effort. Traditional English muffins would have been a better choice but no choice was offered. I ordered the soup as a side dish. Chicken with rice today. The chicken swam through very quickly and left just a trace of her passing. Soup was also lukewarm and the bowl scarcely half full. This place is amazing! Very fresh ingredients and almost everything is made in-house. I got the "It's Tradition" with a Vanilla London Fog. The drink was perfect and the breakfast was soooo good. The breakfast sausages were super tasty, probably one of the best I've had, where you could really taste the herbs. Sourdough bread was made in their bakery and their homemade raspberry jam was just divine. Eggs were perfectly cooked and home fries were delicious! I was looking for a place to stop by after crossing the border. We decided to give this place a try after reading the reviews. Upon entering, we see that the restaurant is small, but expansive at the same time. On the left side of the restaurant, there is a fireplace with a tall shelf on either side of it. On the right side, you can see the counter where the drinks are made and condiments are added to food. The tables are situated in between the counter and fireplace, with the tables ranging from tall to regular size. Rustic lights hang from the ceiling with dimly lit bulbs and art-laden chalkboards hang from the higher parts of the walls as well. On another note, the restaurant has a bakery called Bread and Butter, which is located right next door. I was really excited at the idea of going to a restaurant with a bakery next door. I don't know why. Daughter ordered the Eggs Benny, which is a choice of peameal, Florentine or smoked salmon on their Italian bread with hollandaise. It's also served with choice of daily soup, house greens or roasted potatoes. She had the smoked salmon with Moroccan lentil soup. Daughter loved this meal! She tasted a distinct tanginess in her smoked salmon and couldn't quite put her finger on what it was at first. It puzzled her because she can usually guess the taste immediately. Eventually, she realized it was either dull or there was extra lemon added to the hollandaise sauce. Either way, she thought it was delectable and she would definitely order it again! Hubs ordered the Mushroom Toast, which is their Italian bread with whipped goat cheese, spinach, roasted mushrooms, and topped with two poached eggs. It's also served with choice of daily soup, house greens or roasted posted potatoes. Hubs opted for the salad with blueberry vinaigrette dressing. Hubs loved this! He was craving for something light and somewhat healthier. He saw goat cheese and did a double take, but the tanginess worked in this meal. He couldn't really tell what mushrooms they used, but he could taste three different types. He's going to go home and try to recreate it! Lastly, I ordered pancakes, which came with berry compote, Chantilly cream and Canadian maple syrup. It's also served with choice of bacon or apple sage sausage. You can add blueberries or chocolate chips for $1. I got the apple sage sausage because I never had it before and bacon sounded boring. This was delicious! Pancakes were very fluffy and daughter and I both fought for the sausages. LOL. They were delicious. I never thought sweet and savory would be delicious! The syrup was delicious as well. None of the chemical stuff served in the States! Service was very friendly. We advised our server of daughter's peanut allergies and that she was getting low blood sugar and she was right on it. She, immediately, got her food to carry her over while waiting for her entrees. There wasn't a wait when we got there but there was a wait by the time we were done. Glad we were able to beat the lunch crowd because we had another 3 hours of driving to get to our destination! We got to check out the bakery but didn't buy anything because we were so full. I recently had breakfast with a friend visiting from Belleville, and while the cozy atmosphere of this restaurant stood out, the food didn't quite impress me. I ordered the Eggs Benny, which I found to be fairly average compared to other breakfast spots I've tried--but that might be because I'm not a huge breakfast person. One clever touch is their sister store next door, where you can buy the bread and jam served in the restaurant. We discovered this gorgeous little restaurant and it's companion bakery, Bread and Butter, on our last visit to Kingston. The food was excellent. The service (we're looking at you, Madison) was first rate. Everything we ate - soup, sandwich, breakfast items - was so fresh and beautifully balanced. If you love butter, fresh food, and service with a smile then get on over to Toast and Jam for a very happy few hours. And take out besides! And a gorgeous, reasonably priced birthday cake. This breakfast/brunch location was originally a great idea for locals. Their latest waitlist system is not working. AT ALL. After signing up 30 minutes in advance, we arrived to find that there were 25 people ahead of us. Meanwhile, we counted 5 or 6 empty tables. I had made an earlier waitlist request but cancelled that after realizing that this might interfere with others who would arrive earlier. As for the food, they gave me a steak knife to cut through the bread crusts of my mushroom toast order and it was still a real struggle. Hands down, this is one of the best brunch spots in the Kingston area. If you come on the weekend for brunch, expect a wait, but it's well worth it. The namesake toast and jam are delicious and reason alone to give this place a visit. In terms of the breakfast meals, I got to try the southern cornbread breakfast and the chorizo breakfast bowl. Both were spectacular, mouth-watering, and will have me back for more. The attached bakery is also excellent. A bakery, restaurant combo - a winning pair for brunch. We dined here on a Sunday morning and had a short wait for our table. I was tempted to just buy a large cinnamon roll from the bakery and call it a day because they looked so delicious. We waited it out and ordered coffee, and I had the nested egg. The meal came with a side of salad, soup or potatoes. I opted for potatoes and added a side of bacon because brunch isn't complete without it. My meal was fantastic. The sourdough freshly made in house and a generous portion of avocado made the perfect pairings for the egg. Hands down our favourite brunch spot in Kingston, and it ain't even close. A few reasons: 1. The soups are really good. Get the sweet potato chowder if it's there. 2. The Chorizo Bowl is delicious. Get the egg over easy to mix it in. 3. Unlimited coffee refills 4. Free bread while you wait (seriously!) 5. The jams are GOOD. The only sour note was the croissant BLT. I suppose I should've known better: an oily croissant + oily aioli + oily bacon + oily peameal bacon = oily mouth. Everything just tasted so heavy that the small piece of lettuce + tomato did nothing to relieve. The first bite was good, but the rest was a bit of a burden. All in all, we're so excited to come back to this place and try the rest of the menu (while dodging the BLT). Make sure to come early - lines are long. read more

This place is awesome. Lemme just say that off the bat. Not much around this area of Kingston but this restaurant is worth the drive out. So the way it's set up is one side of the building is "Bread & Butter" which is their bakery, and then the cafe side is "Toast & Jam". Since the bakery is attached, you can pretty much imagine how GOOD the breads and pastries are. Their sourdough is so damn good, I can't even describe. I got an almond milk latte, which is awesome to find at a place like this (I'm lactose intolerant). It was great. After that our mains came out. I got the "Scrambowl" which was almost like a scrambled egg on salad, with a dope lemon vinaigrette, goat cheese and with a side or that AMAZING sourdough. Also, they bring you out homemade jams and ketchup with every meal. My girlfriend got the "Jordan Breakfast" which was eggs, bacon, ham, turkey sausage and a HUGE home made biscuit. All in all you can't beat this spot for a solid breakfast. Also take home some bread and also some pastries because they cannot be beat. read more

Let's start with the ambiance of the restaurant. Toast and Jam provides a quaint brunch location in one of the smaller cities in Ontario. The atmosphere and decor are on point to a brunch place, and the restaurant is very obviously clean and taken care of. COVID measures are well done and no complaints on that end. If I would rate this restaurant solely on the ambiance and environment, I'd give it a solid 4. Now let's talk food. The flavour is nothing special, in fact it left much to be desired. The toast came out slightly cold, as if they didn't prepare toast per dish but in bunches. The sausages tasted like they were bought from Costco, the fries were also slightly cold. The EGGS BENNY was on the better side, but again it felt like the food wasn't that warm, and the home fries were slightly cold as well. Overall, the food could have been better if it felt like it was prepared more fresh rather than feeling like it had been sitting on the counter for 15 minutes; however, even if it came out warm it would be a 3 at most because the taste didn't leave a lasting impression and definitely didn't provide either my partner or I reason to come back. Overall, food would be a 2 the way we got our dishes, and a 3 if it was warm. Service... Honestly, I should give the restaurant a bit of the doubt because it might be a bit difficult to hear with the mandatory mask policy due to COVID; however, when taking our order the waitress asked 3 questions about the IT'S TRADITION. 1. Sausage or ham? 2. How do you want your eggs done? 3. White, whole wheat? We answered, sausage, sunny side up, and whole wheat.... from the photo I've attached to this review, it's pretty obvious which 2 of the questions the waitress got completely wrong. No big deal, we call the waitress over and just specify that we got the wrong items. However, the biggest complaint is that we had to wait upwards to 10 minutes to get the replacement items. We had nearly finished our entire plates before we got the sunny side up eggs and the whole wheat bread. Not even that, the whole wheat bread that had JUST came out was cold. Overall, pretty disappointed with the service and would give the service a 1 from our experience. In conclusion, the combination of each category leaves my review at a 2 star rating. There are a few things that are significantly lacking, and if we were ever to come back would love to see improvements in these vital areas. read more

Such a great little breakfast spot! Was very surprised at the long line up when I arrived just before 9:30am on a Sunday. Didn't bother me though, figured the line up was a good sign the restaurant would be worth the wait. They took my name down but we only waited for about 20 minutes (the host quoted 30). Bonus! While I was waiting, I wandered into their adjacent bakery (see next review) and picked up a couple of yummy goodies. I met with my two cousins and asked them to be my bridesmaids officially during breakfast. Our server couldn't have been more lovely and did not rush us at all through our meal and chatting. To start we ordered a crossiant plus some bread and butter to munch on - very delicious and fresh! One of my cousins opted for the traditional breakfast and the other got the granola option - all looked amazing and everyone was super happy with their meals. I went with the nested egg - which was cooked in the middle of amazing sourdough bread and served with avocado spread plus really really yummy fried potatoes. I found the coffee to be good but can't remember if we were offered a refill (most likely due to all of our chatting). Will return again someday to try more of their menu options! read more

This is the cutest and most original brunch place in Kingston. This is a true farm to table brunch. Offers a wide range of choice on the menu and great place for vegan, gluten free, meatsrian and the rest of us who will eat everything. Get the homemade jam just amazing and homemade bread. I really did not like my English muffin sandwich. I love avocados but the muffin had this avocado spread that was sour and tasted awful and did not pair well with the scrambled eggs. The tradition with sausage was good but there's nothing special about it Service: 3/5 Servers were really nice and attentive. Always asked about coffee refills however it was super busy and took around 40 min for our food to come. We also had to wait 45 min to be seated. Tip: Coffee is offered right away. It is NOT free, so if you don't feel like coffee, don't accept. From my opinion, Toast & Jam is more about atmosphere as opposed to the food. If I took this food and set it in a dumpier atmosphere, I'm sure the rating would be much lower. However, the setting here is quite nice, open dining area, high ceilings, nice lighting, clean décor. Service was very polite and friendly as well. English muffin being made in-house was a nice touch, but sandwich itself was pretty average. I had a taste of the French Toast, tasted good, but how difficult is that to mess up with the creme fraiche on the side? Roasted potatoes were GOOD though, I have to mention that. They were nice and mushy on the inside and roasted on the outside. Ketchup, which based on the other reviews is made in-house, was too runny. Decent flavour, but again, too watery. Reason for my less than 3* rating was that the coffee was terrible. Even with the refills offered, which I assumed were complimentary, I refused...and I usually tend to take advantage of free things.
