Wow! Just stopped in here for a quick bite and some caffeine, and this place was really cool! Loads of delicious looking pastries. I had a bite of my gfs bagel sandwich and it was really good, with a delicious aioli on it. My drip coffee was really good!! I could tell that they were using good quality beans (probably their own). Comfy inside with plenty of seating, and they had a lot of workers so nobody was waiting too long. I love this place!! I only was able to go 2-3 times since I've had to travel to Kingston for work and will miss it. CRAVE has a huge assortment of prepared foods, so I always made sure to stop by before driving to the Ottawa Airport to pick something up - everything from sandos, pastas, and salads. Most recently, the Ross Special sandwich (stuffing, turkey, cranberry sauce) was 10/10 when I ate it during a layover. The coffee is always creative and delicious, love that they give you a real mug to decrease waste if I'm eating in. I also had a lox bagel that was the perfect portion. It's always poppin' inside but never have to wait too long for my food and I can always find somewhere to chill, use their wifi and then continue on with my day. Make sure to visit this coffee shop before trying any others! Once you do, it'll be hard to find a place that compares. Lunch time can be hectic since it is conveniently located by the hospital and on the strip of Princess, but the service was fast considering. Their Portuguese tarts are absolutely incredible--I had to go back the next day for another one because they were that good! I also tried a matcha latte with strawberry syrup and oat milk, and you can really taste the quality. However, I would recommend steering clear of their premade salads; they weren't worth the price. read more

I had the roasted nut latte with oat milk, a slice of vegan carrot cake, and a sticky pecan bun. An absolute must-try if you are ever in Kingston! This coffeeshop is an icon in the heart of downtown Kingston and it's super popular with the student population. It's the perfect spot if you want to get some work and studying done --there is lots of seating space at the back with cozy couches close to outlets-- are on a first date, or any other sort of meet-up you have in mind. Their prices are on the higher end, but I think it's absolutely worth it if you can enjoy the beautiful space and ambience inside. They also have an outdoor patio. The baristas will take your name when you order drinks and are super friendly! Some of my favourite orders are: - Smoked salmon bagel with cream cheese & onions - Pumpkin pie (fall favourite) - Baklava & coffee - Maple latte They have a range of funky and cool teas as well. If you want to go somewhere where you don't see your classmates you may not like (happens to me alot), also not the place for you. Otherwise the food and drinks are great. CRAVE is dope. First off, the menu is EXTENSIVE. Huge. Can be slightly overwhelming but I haven't had anything I hated, so if you don't know what you want, just take a random guess and you'll probably enjoy yourself. The coffee is roasted in house, the juices are made in house and the baked goods are made in house and are ridiculous. The cinnamon rolls? INSANE. They used to own a cinnamon bun shop so obviously they better come correct on that. Worth every bite and calorie lol The staff are also awesome. Really nice and genuinely care about their customers. I've had a variety of interpersonal interactions with the staff, usually entirely to pleasant, with the occasional person seeming a little too cool for me. Nonetheless, they're very good for studying (big tables, outlets, good Internet connection) if you can handle the dim and warm lighting. They even have a section of tables that are reserved as "technology free" for those who don't want to be burdened by "kids these days"! In two words, Crave is really over-hyped and underwhelming. When it first opened up, I was really excited to have a study-friendly coffee shop right in the downtown core, but was really disappointed. The venue itself is quite big with lots of tables and communal working areas featuring plugs, but most of the tables at the front are laptop-free zones and the tables at the back of the café are really close together with uncomfortable metal seats. The lighting is also really dim; combine all of this with spotty wifi and you have a pretty bad working environment. They have a wide selection of drinks, pastries, and food items, and I have to give credit where credit is due - the food is really good! Their cinnamon buns are AMAZING and I really enjoy their salads as well! But the drinks are quite subpar and everything on the menu is quite expensive for its size. My last (slightly strange) criticism of this place is that every time I leave, I find that all my clothes smell like a greasy burger joint. I have no idea why because the café itself doesn't have this smell to it, and yet without fail, regardless of how long I stayed or where I was sitting, the smell is there where I leave. Overall, Crave is really conveniently located right next to the bus loop and I would stop by to grab a cinnamon bun if I was in the mood for a sweet treat, but otherwise I would definitely choose another coffee shop to meet a friend at or get some work done. read more

During a recent trip to Ktown a friend and I strolled down the "main drag" Princess street to find a treat and I was pleasantly surprised/shocked to see that a Starbucks had CLOSED and in its' place, the smaller chain coffee shop "Balzac's". Nice! But even nicer was the new locally owned "Crave Coffee & Bakery" shop a bit further on down the street. With everything made from scratch in-house the wares they have on offer are delicious and reasonably priced. 3-5 types of sweet rolls alone (drool!), cookies, squares etc. The coffee is roasted in-house (you see the roaster when you walk in) and is exquisite. Definitely my current favourite espresso in all of Kingston (and for those from there, you know there are MANY options to choose from). I didn't have the chance to sample the to-go salads but they looked fresh and healthy - with vegetarian and (I believe) a vegan option thrown in to the mix as well. The staff are warm and knowledgable and the owner overseeing operations - happy to talk about his latest venture. I'll definitely be recommending this coffee/sweets and light meals spot to friends visiting Kingston. Come fall/winter this will be a particularly cozy spot as they have a gas fireplace panel at the back and some comfy lounge chairs. read more

Maybe their coffee is better... I'm really disappointed with their vegan cookie. I purchased the almond chocolate vegan cookie ($3+) and it was sooo dry. Pass. Not sure if their non-vegan sweets are any better, but boy, I hope they expand their vegan options in terms of both taste and variety. The food options here are pricey for their size. They have vegan desserts here which are awesome, and from the ones I've tried (vegan chocolate chip cookie and vegan carrot cake) they're good! I haven't tried all of their vegan desserts yet to say that they're all great, which is why I didn't give CRAVE a 5 star rating. But I've had one coffee from here and it was a good standard cup of coffee. I appreciate their wide range of non-dairy milk (they have almond, soy, oat, rice and coconut milk I believe)! However, I will point out that they have a lot of baked goods and savoury things out in the open, by the cashier and on the table behind the cash register, so that might be a concern for some! Certain desserts and all the vegan ones are in the refrigerated section. Anyhow, still a really nice and cute coffee shop. CRAVE is by far my favourite place in Kingston. Perfect place to meet up with friends, study and grab something to eat. They have a variety of drinks and pastries to choose from and their cinnamon buns are SO GOOD (especially when they are freshly made). The staff are super accommodating and will make any drinks you ask for. Their matcha latte is one of the best I've had. My favourite part of CRAVE are the decors and the big table in the middle to study. Plenty of outlets and work space. read more

As an aficionado of quality cafes, I thoroughly enjoyed Crave Coffee House. The ambience is sleek, chic and urbane. Softly played hip tunes complete the relaxing atmosphere. Rare among cafes these days, they have comfy stuffed chairs as well as table & chair seating. Crave features the standard array of coffees and pastries. Service is cheerful and quick. AND there is free wi-fi, with plenty of electrical outlets. Centrally located, Crave is a great place to hang out and enjoy a snack and caffeine hit. UPDATE (April 2018): Unfortunately, Crave's management has taken the comfort level down several notches, replacing comfortable seating with stiff tables and chairs jammed cheek-by-jowl. This is where wi-fi users are banished, back of the bus style. I fear Crave has made itself a victim of its own success, finding it now too noisy and cramped for my liking. I've knocked one star off my rating. Too bad. read more

Their cinnamon buns are to die for, and they have some really interesting tea latte flavours! I got their lavender latte and it was absolutely delicious! It was floral and rich and I would definitely get it again. Crave also has incredibly smooth coffee. It is one of the only places where I will buy some. However, Crave has a few setbacks. It is quite expensive, with a drink and a snack totalling $10. It is also quite difficult to find seating. If you are planning on studying here, I recommend going somewhere else and just grabbing a treat/drink from here. Also, sometimes service can be good. But it is not constant. Some staff are incredibly personable, while others are quite standoffish. Would come here if I had to, but wouldn't be my first choice! read more

Crave is a one-stop-shop. Not only do they have the necessary brewed coffee and espresso drinks, but they sport a variety of salads, sandwiches, and pastries. At the front of the store, you'll notice the gigantic coffee roaster. Yes, they roast their beans in-house and you can tell by the taste of their coffee. They also offer freshly-made breakfast sandwiches: they fry the eggs and bacon right at the coffee bar. My favourite part about Crave is that they are very accommodating of different dietary restrictions. All of the vegan and gluten free food is labeled so it's easy to just grab what you want without asking questions. My favourite is their vegan chocolate chip cookies alongside an almond milk latte (and their almond milk actually froths!) I leave out one star because the atmosphere tends to be a little dark, and I prefer a brighter, more open space. At night, it's super cute and cozy but in the morning I want the vibes to say "good morning!" just as much as my coffee does. read more

I've been waiting a really long time for this place to open. I used to work down the street and was really looking forward to having a coffee shop a one minute walk from my office. After more than two years (maybe even three?) of waiting, Crave finally opened. I'm sad to say that it wasn't worth the wait. The coffee is roasted in-house, which really excited me. Since it was the evening, I ordered a decaf latte. I was stunned when the barista scooped the coffee grounds out of a tupperware container. No freshly ground coffee here! The milk was so hot that I badly burned my mouth. By the time that it had cooled enough to drink, it was just hot milk with burned espresso. I ended up throwing out my drink. The inside of the coffee shop is gorgeous. I remember that when Crave was first announced, they said that their goal was to be the biggest coffee shop in Kingston, with ample seating. It isn't that much bigger than Coffee and Company, and not nearly as big as the Common Ground (or even the original Common Ground). I can see that many of the seats would fill up during exam season. The food and drink counter is huge and takes up a lot of room. Despite all this, they did a very good job decorating the space. It's definitely cozy and more welcoming than most of the coffee shops around. I still have high hopes for Crave. With a little more care into the coffee preparation, and maybe training the staff, they could be one of the best in Kingston. read more

I've tried the iced chai latte and iced sugar & spice latte so far. Both were good. They have lots of different latte flavours so I'll be trying a lot of them. Not a coffee person though so probably won't be trying any of that. They also have a huge selection of baked goods, which I have yet to try! Their staff are very nice and helpful, and I am so happy they have such long hours (7am to as late as 11pm!) so I can actually stay out a bit longer instead of holing up in my room! Staff are always friendly, smiling and welcoming. It's packed, but I'm never waiting in line too long. My order has been messed up once or twice, but I'm pretty sure the staff member was in training and my order was corrected with an apology and smiles so all is fine.
