It was the first time I thought, is this even coffee/espresso anymore? Plus it was just a bit sweeter than I expected but it had several different things going on. I don't remember if there's much difference in basic lattes, either. But given that they do offer more than just coffee/lattes. I do encourage others to give them a try!! I frequently find myself referring to locations according to their proximity to a fro-yo or ice cream shop, and I plan my errands around nearby Yogurberry's or TCBY's. Anyways, this is at least my fifth summer vacationing in St. George Island, FL, and I've always felt like my frozen treat options here were lacking. There's Aunt Ebby's, which is somewhat similar to Bruster's, but in a more divey, beach town environment. It's popular, but I crave healthier options like fat free soft serve or sugar free italian ice after a long day on the beach. Upon arriving for this summer's adventure in St. George, my family immediately spotted a new cute wooden hut advertising shaved ice. It was about 6 p.m., and they were closed, but we vowed to stop by the next day. We did, and it was glorious. There were at least 30 flavors, and 4 were sugar free. The green apple was delicious, and service was friendly. At $4 a pop, it ain't cheap, but I'm happy to support the local small beach town businesses. We asked what time they usually close, and we were told about 4:30 or 5 p.m. every day. Based on this experience alone, my review would've had a higher rating. However, we returned the next day around 3:30, and it was closed. With parched throats, we sadly drove back to our beach house. We returned again today at 3 p.m., and it was closed... again. Every day we've been here, the weather has been perfectly hot and sunny, and plenty of people have been out and about. I don't get it. Along with shaved ice flavors like pink lemonade, root beer, watermelon, passion fruit, and tangerine, Island Ice offers hot dogs and chili dogs.... when they're actually open, of course. I like to play hard-to-get sometimes, but not when it comes to food.
