Very cute cafe with a good working atmosphere and kind staff. The bathroom was also nice. Unfortunately, the drinks weren't up to par. We ordered the iced rose matcha latte and peachy iced tea and they both don't taste as they're named. There is no matcha flavor and it just tastes of sweetness. The iced tea isn't sweet (which i don't mind) but it tastes watered down. The blueberry muffin was decent though. I still rated 4 stars because I'm no negative Nancy and the people were nice. I visited Coffee Break during my recent vacation to the Arcata/Eureka area. First off, I'd like to start by stating that I observed none of the negative things other reviewers have experienced and criticized at Coffee Break. It was a warm day when I arrived. There were two sets of customers hanging outside enjoying their coffee. One couple had their Labrador Retriever with them - and he/she was sound asleep - sprawled out on the ground, enjoying a nap in the sun. Inside there were several folks drinking coffee and either reading or engaged in activities on their laptop PCs. I ordered a cold brew with room for cream - with an option for coffee ice cubes! I've never seen that offered before! So I opted to try out the coffee ice cubes! Cold brew was strong and tasty! And as the ice coffee cubes melted, you got a concentrated shot of cold caffeinated goodness later on! I'd come back here again. Service was good. #CoffeeBreak read more

This is one of my go-to cafes for studying and working. Without exception, the staff is always so welcoming and kind- smiles all around and I genuinely feel like they are happy to help me. I often have trouble deciding what to get, and the folks that work here always happily give me their recommendations! They also provide current newspapers, magazines, and some games to play. When you approach or leave, you can stop by their little free library and take or return a book. The drinks are always great! And I love that they offer a number of medicinal herbal tea blends from Humboldt Herbals too! I do wish they offered some egg and dairy free baked goods, but I understand that's not super common in cafes. Also, I sometimes wish their seating was a little more comfy, as the metal seats can be discomforting after a while. But otherwise, truly an incredible place with incredible service. read more

We came here when visiting in the area and I got one of the February special lattes which was very good! It was vanilla and rose and both balanced each other well. My boyfriend got a rose-matcha latte which was tasty if you like matcha. We also got an egg bagel and a hummus bagel, both which were toasted perfectly and flavorful. They had outside seating which was cozy and I was able to eat with my dog. The baristas were very nice as well! Coffee is always good and no matter how busy, the staff stay upbeat and work well together.that being said food quality has gone extremely downhill, went in for a Bagel and coffee today and the bagel left me with a depression and loss of hope for humanity that food itself should not be capable of. I've been here a handful of times and I have had a great experience every time. I've enjoyed mimosas on the patio with friends and my dog and one of the girls offered my dog some water and a treat which was very appreciated. I've been in on my own and just enjoyed amazing bagel sandwiches as well as to die for coffee. It's a little busy in the morning but hey just come back a bit later and have a coffee. The burrito was a frozen burrito I used to buy in college. It costs 3 bucks at murphys. It came out of the oven and somehow still tasted like a genuine frozen burrito that faked being organic. Can't complain about the coffee that much. Their iced drinks usually have too much ice. Their outside seating is nice. A stringed cheese costs 1.25 and so does a hard boiled egg. This coffee place has ultimately the worst service out of any coffee place I have been to. Every single time I come to this place, I go through the drive through. I am always the second car in line, but somehow is always waiting 20 minutes. The woman in front of me actually backed up out of the line and left because she had not been attended to yet and was waiting for 10 minutes. I do not understand how this is acceptable for a drive through coffee shop. No one was inside being served either. This place is absolutely disgusting. Not only is this the grossest excuse of a coffee shop I've ever seen, but they also employ the nastiest people in Humboldt County. As I left I noticed a wad of several black hairs floating in my coffee. Disgusted and appalled, I drive back to get a refund and make them aware of the health code violation. There I was met by a young blonde employee who was the rudest woman I've ever encountered on the job. She seemed frustrated to deal with my kind yet upset words and told me that wasn't her fault and they were likely my own hairs (I'm a red head) and it wasn't their fault. I began to tell her how that was impossible and she started screaming at me in front of other customer and using profanity and homophobic slurs. Young lady working gave us three servings of quiche although we had ordered two. She was speaking Italian with one of our group and so we thought she gave us the quiche as a gift. Next time we went in she came up to my friends and said 'I hope you enjoyed your free quiche yesterday' with a snide tone of voice like we did something wrong. We stopped going. So far it is the only place in Arcata that continues to not get it. I ask for a double espresso and they tell me that all shoots are double. They give me a coffee that as soon as I put a bit of cream its temperature goes down to cold, meaning that their machine is not powerful enough. I stopped going there for months, today I went back and asked for a single espresso, well they give me again the two shoots and went cold with a little bit of cream. This place is pretty nice. They have an outdoor patio area with quite a few tables. They offer drive-up. They have a selection of pastry items and a full espresso bar. it seems very relaxed here. They have free Wi-Fi, and if you don't come for great coffee everything else is a nice experience. As for the coffee, it's clear they're supporting a local roasting company, Kinetic Coffee Company. I applaud them for that, however there are other local roasters that produce a better quality of brew. If you like your coffee harsh and overroasted the Coffee Break Café will get five stars.
