This is my ALL TIME FAVORITE coffee house. The staff is extremely friendly and take the time to get to know you. On the other hand the coffee is to die for. I get a iced mocha w/ oat milk... and let me tell you... it is absolutely unmatched. Their grounds and chocolate powder is the best in Oregon and I will go to my grave saying that. The mocha is the perfect blend of coffee bitterness and sweetness from the chocolate powder they use. The powder is their ultimate secret weapon, it clumps up into chocolate chunks inside the drink. Loved this shop! I ordered a coconut vanilla latte and a warmed triple berry sweet roll (like a cinnamon roll but berries instead). The drink was delicious and the roll was perfect. It was sweet but not overly sweet and the berries added the perfect tang. This place is the only thing I miss about Newberg. They make a really good Arnold Palmer and I always got the breakfast bowl. It always tasted homemade with fresh ingredients. I've never seen the place busy so I never had trouble finding places to sit, it was usually pretty quiet so I could get work done if I needed to. I was so happy to find the lavender vanilla latte. It's hard to find a coffee shop that carries the lavender syrup. I even came back a second day and had the mexi mocha. It was delicious, but could've benefited from some chili powder. The place is cozy and cute. It has a few separated areas to hang out and feel like you're alone. The coffee was delicious. I'm from out of town and the barista was able to spend time chatting with us about the Newberg area and local life. I highly recommend this place. I love this sweet little coffee house in Newberg. They have excellent sandwiches and coffee brewed up just right. The decor is cozy, with local artwork displayed throughout that you can buy. It's eclectic and warm- the perfect place to curl up with homework, work work, a book, whatever. If a person is ever looking for something "to do" in Newberg, s/he'll likely end up at a coffee shop. Amidst the many available choices in Newberg, The Coffee Cat definitely stands out. I've found favorite individual drinks at each coffee stop (Coffee Cottage has the best Americano/drip coffee and Chapters has the best chai), but the one I most consistently come back to is the Cat. The space here is fantastic; there are all sorts of nooks and crannies one can situate herself in, and there's also space for group-type gatherings. There's a really cool small room with two comfortable chairs to the right of the entrance past the checkout counter that is a particular favorite of mine. If one has a preference for blended drinks, Coffee Cat isn't your place; they have a certain few they can make, but they aren't on the menu. This personally isn't a concern for me, as I like relatively simple drinks. Their iced coffee is especially fantastic; typically they make coffee ice cubes that really enhances the strength of the particular roast they used for their iced blend. Money-wise, it's more expensive than the Coffee Cottage and about equally as expensive as Chapters. If you're a black coffee drinker, it's two bucks for a medium cup, which is about the same as the Cottage. They typically have two or three drip blends out, so there's definitely plenty of variety. They also serve lunch and pastries. Their peanut butter brownies and white chocolate lemon cookies are to die for. Overall, if you're looking for a place to get some work done while having some fine coffee in a great ambiance, the Coffee Cat is your place. read more

If you are not a cat person... or a lime green and purple cat-themed sign person, don't be scared of the Coffee Cat. I was scared of them for a long time because of their cutesy cat sign. Once you step inside, it's a whole different story. They tend to be a bit on the spendy side, but the atmosphere is quite enjoyable. It's painted rich, warm, inviting colors and there's are a couple cozy nooks to curl up in. They are also open later hours than the other local coffee shops, so if you're coffee-hopping they're the perfect place to end the evening. I can't personally vouch for their coffee, but their baked goods are quite enjoyable and the service has always been pleasant. And as I understand it, they will be under new ownership soon. So who knows? They might even get a better sign. UPDATE on March 30th 2010: Coffee Cat took me from like to love. Under new ownership, they have a fantastic new logo, the atmosphere is just as cozy, and everything is delicious. They are also the only place in town that makes an amazing London Fog (If you like Earl Grey, and steamers, you'll LOVE their London Fog). read more

Ingredients are from local area, from their Chi tea, to the homemade soups. The staff always has a smile, and friendly hi to welcome you, very educated on proper ways to make the perfect cup of coffee, or teas. If you don't know what you want, always willing to give a suggestion. The building is original and was at one time was horse stables, and there is even an original sliding door. Local artists have their pieces hanging on the wall to purchase, lots of homemade items for sale. FREE WiFi and the owners offer discounts each afternoon for the local students, GFU. Under New Ownership! They made some great improvements that were overdue. The most obvious to me was the shortening of their menu. They used to have what seemed like 150 syrup drink options. Their new menu sticks to the familiar and usual lattes, cappuccinos, and mochas. The simplification of the menu extends to the overall space. The decorations make a lot more sense and the entire place feels twice as big as the previously cluttered atmosphere. I have been in twice since the new ownership and my drinks were made well and passed my test. While Coffee Cat is still behind the other coffee shop options in town for me, it is a great option for meetings and to switch things up. Coffee Cat is under new ownership!! I've been in twice in the last week since finding out that there is a new owner and both times have been perfect. I used to go to Coffee Cat fairly regularly, but after too many times of horrible drinks, bad/slow service and the insane prices I stopped. My first return visit I had the best iced lavender latte and also picked up a couple of day old baked goods for later (they were delish and $2!). Second visit was for a quick breakfast. I had the breakfast burrito and the hubs had a bagel breakfast sandwich. Both were so tasty and freshly made. It was nice to be able to get acquainted with the new owner and hear her future plans for the shop while she made us our tasty breakfast. She has so many great ideas that I think will be so welcome to our community. I can't wait to see what she does with the place. It can only get better! read more

Went to Coffee Cat twice this weekend. First time we had a turkey sandwich which was decent. Lemonade wasn't great. Next day stopped in for a quick breakfast. Ordered two bagels. Took a while to get them and we were the only folks in there. Turns out the bagels were frozen and they had to microwave them. Sadly the bagels were dry and not what we expected. Microwaved bagels... My favorite study spot in Newberg. Coffee is pretty good and the food is tasty, but the thing I like most about this place is the ambience. Very peaceful and quaint, also, there are lots of sturdy tables to set up shop at.
