There was a constant stream of folks coming in, all in search of hot drink to warm up. The tables quickly filled with groups of people playing games, reading, or coloring. The owner made light conversation about the new biscottis that she was offering and asking for feedback. I had the chocolate brownie biscotti with my latte and it was the perfect afternoon snack. My son had the hot apple cider. Both our drinks were served in BIG unique ceramic mugs that made you want to wrap your hands around and warm up by the fireplace. Wonderful place with good covid-19 safety precautions in place! This is a takeout order review. Family did a nice walk on Ebey's Landing and went to Coupeville for lunch. We walked to the Cove and picked up a late afternoon "linner." Covid-19 Precautions: great. Appreciated the one-way walk through and signs to maintain distance. Appreciated the tub of hand sanitizer and use of masks. Once we ordered we walked out the exit and waited outside for the food. I saw there were in-person diners that were well spaced out. Kudos to this restaurant for exercising precaution. We took the food to outdoor benches nearby to eat. Food: delicious! The fish & chips were DELICIOUS. Wow. Large crunchy batter balanced with big fat tender slabs of flaky rock fish dipped in creamy tangy tartar sauce. I was loving it. Best fish and chips to date. Fries were delicious too. I think food tastes better if you eat it outside and it certainly did that day! Lobster rolls were also delicious and unique! The lobster was lightly cooked to keep a fresh taste, coated with a light and refreshing lobster roll sauce. Perfect for the summer and just plain delicious. We also loved the bread. Price: very decent! There were cheaper options but we went with the ~$13-15 dishes which... are very very fair for what we get! Service: our cashier and hostess were both very nice and friendly. They smiled, gave recommendations on our orders, and made a decent strawberry lemonade! Outdoor tables: there are some tables on the dock that you can probably eat on. We walked to the beginning of the dock where there were about three outdoor tables and ate there. :) Bathroom: it's attached to the building and not the restaurant per se. But it's indoors and clean, meaning the kitchen is very likely clean too! Overall two thumbs up. We ordered takeout from here and another nearby restaurant. Just tried The Cove for the first time and we loved it! We had biscuits and gravy, breakfast sandwich with English muffin/scrambled eggs/bacon/cheese, drip coffee, and Samoa Latte. We dined in and enjoyed the great mugs are coffees were served in and the Samoa Latte was well balanced. The breakfast sandwich was cooked perfectly and the English muffin was amazing. The biscuits and gravy were also excellent and some of the best I have had in a while. Very solid breakfast option. The food is filling and always tasty. I've tried a few things there and their shrimp and coleslaw sandwich is a satisfying, salty, and solid sandwich. The "Dans Platter" is an old fashioned, diner meal with good flexibility of sides and a good balance of savory but also light. The barista was very kind and conversational, and the coffee was FANTASTIC! It is on wharf so the vibe is very sea-forward with lots of wooden planks and cool old pictures. It took me five minutes to order two iced coffees. Area is obviously charming, and the coffee was tasty. Maybe if they can figure out hiring someone less incompetent to take orders. Definitely a hidden gem! I came here with a few of my friends after attending the Coupeville Arts & Crafts Festival and it hit the spot. Although I decided to not get coffee, my two friends that did were pleased with the coffee. I got the rose lemonade which was super refreshing since It was pretty warm out. I walked in, and stood there at the counter, the young lady working the counter didn't even bother to lift her head and acknowledge me, let me know it would be a second before she got to me, or anything. Then I watched someone who was already dining walk up and pay for something. She then continued with what she was doing. I ended up leaving. It was 11:30 on a Saturday so I'm not sure if they were at their customer limit. But first impression are everything, and that was a huge let down after waiting a week to come have brunch. read more

This restaurant is in it's 3rd ownership since we moved to Whidbey 5.5 years ago. We had dinner there with another couple tonight 02/08/2020. I had the halibut with risotto & a rainbow coleslaw, served warm. My friend had elk chops served atop squash & potatoes. Our husbands had pasta with scallops, & boar sausage in a cream sauce. We all cleaned our plates! The meats & fish were all tender, not overcooked & were very flavorful. We all had the yellowfin tuna sushi with seaweed. Wonderful. We finished off the meal with Mexican Chocolate Mouse topped with whipped cream & served in wine glasses. It has a touch of cayenne pepper so it has just a little kick. Under new management and new name in March 2024. It is now Beaver Tales. We are there on September 1, 2024. The food was very underwhelming and very overpriced. The nachos were skimpy in terms of serving size and lacked an ingredient (beans) unless you want to count the dead fruit fly we found stuck to one of the chips. This hidden gem is asolutely gorgeous! The salty mug is under new ownership and they have done an absolute outstanding job turning it over from what it once was to what it is now. A beautifully decorated, charming coffee shop! They sell local pottery and gifts. The coffee is delicious, and well made. I highly recommend trying the signature drink - The Salty Mug! A perfect (iced for me!) carmel latte with a hint of sea salt, so delicious, it's becoming addictive! It's located inside the wharf at the end of the pier. There is indoor and outdoor seating if you want to grab a mug and sit and relax for a while, enjoying the beautiful view on the water. On a road trip with my kids we passed through Coupeville and decided to stop for lunch. We were excited to find this "seafood" restaurant on Yelp as my kids are pretty picky eaters but they LOVE seafood! By the time we got there, we were starving. When we got there we discovered that this is no longer a "seafood" restaurant, but rather a coffee shop now serving sandwiches. We were all SO disappointed Of course there was nothing on the coffee shop menu that my kids would eat We ended up just leaving and getting hot dogs at the cart at the start of the pier. This place needs to update their Yelp listing and post an up-to-date menu. It looks like it is probably a nice coffee shop, but that's not what we were looking for. read more

They make a good cup of coffee and are friendly folks. I'm giving it three stars because the sandwiches are incredibly overpriced tiny portions sizes. We went twice while staying in Coupeville. The first time we ordered bagel breakfast sandwiches they were very small for $8 but typical pricing. The second time we were too late for breakfast options and had to order sandwiches. They were $14-$18 a piece and pretty dang small. Not impressed that I spent $50 for lunch and wasn't full. You'll get good food here but be prepared to overpay for what you get. read more

The temp outside on a November day with a windchill factor is a biting cold. I was wondering if it was worth it to walk to the end of the dock to try this place out but it was recommended by a friend who likes to visit Coupeville. I'm glad we did. It's a cute little place, though there is no seating inside, which is maybe a year round thing based on the layout of the small space I can't tell if they'd had tables inside pre-Covid. They have some displays of various items for sale like jam and pottery. We grabbed several jars of jam and both got some drip coffee (they use Fidalgo beans). We shared a pecan bar, which we weren't overly impressed with, but may be more of an us thing than them. read more

My family of 5 went in for a table, they said to wait a few minutes for a table. Took awhile to set it up, but we could see they have our table with 3 kids menus, but then wouldn't seat us. She said the boss doesn't want to seat anyone else because the kitchen is backed up. I asked how long, she just said it would be a little while. So rude the way she communicated it us and every other guest that came up. This place is not worth your time. Not to mention the menu is really limited. Had lunch here today for the first time. It's situated on on a pier that stretches out onto Penn Cove. The walk out was a little interesting today with 35 mph wind and rain, but sometimes you have to earn your reward, kind of like climbing Mount Fuji. Had three items off the menu: house salad with blood orange vinaigrette, coconut green curry mussels and a portabella mushroom sandwich. The salad greens were fresh and delicious, and the vinaigrette was perfectly balanced and interesting. The sandwich was also good, and came with the best shoestring fries I've had in a long time. We got some of their rockin' house-made tarter sauce for the fries. The star among stars though was the bowl of mussels. They were perfectly cooked (so many places over-cook mussels and clams.) The broth was the best I've ever had with steamed mussels. I tried to coax some details out of our server Taylor about what was in it, and her response got belly laughs out of me and my wife, "Let's see, green curry, onions, celery, garlic, spoon, mussels," she said while bending over the dish and identifying the ingredients one could easily see. Ha! We'll brave even heavier weather to come here again--service and food are excellent. Wish we didn't live 2 hours away! read more
