Excellent stop made at Honeymoon Bay Coffee Roasters! We do kind of a trade off at my work at bringing in a bag of unground coffee from a coffee shop and me and my colleagues then trade off and get coffee from another shop. Also I needed some coffee for home where we have a similar rotating coffee arrangement. There are a lot of different bagged coffee choices so take your time making a decision if you need to. I wanted something warm to drink in addition to that and got a very lovely vanilla latte here which hit the spot nicely. Oh how I wish I had discovered this coffee shop on my first day in Oak Harbor! It's right around the corner for my boy's place. I found them on the last day- and the roasting beans greet you as you enter the door. The smells- oh lord the smells. Then the choices!!!! I absolutely had to go with Nirvana hot latte- dark chocolate, caramel and Irish Cream were the flavors- and I couldn't resist a cup called Nirvana anyway. It was exquisite. I sat in one of their comfy chairs in view of the roaster. enjoyed every wonderful sip of coffee and then bought two bags of whole beans for my daughter. My luggage smelled delightful when I opened it! And TSA peeked in my bag too- lol. The lady/owner? Who helped me was simply wonderful! She said they are small, but have just the best customers! Next time I visit I will be SURE to be in there every single day! And try other specialty coffees. They made me want my own setup at home so I could brew my own coffee- their coffee! read more

After buying my coffee beans there for about 2 years, a few months ago I was told that punch cards for beans would be discontinued. I was assured that the punch cards that were issued would be honored until they were redeemed. Yesterday I visited & had 3 punches left on my card, I set 3 bags of french roast beans on the counter & asked if I could pick another bag for my full card. I was told by the staff that the card was no longer valid & that it would not be honored. I put the 3-lbs back on the rack & left to buy by beans from Fidalgo roastery. It has been a long relationship here & at the Clinton stand & I have spent thousands of dollars on beans in the last couple years, but will return no more. read more

Delicious, deep-flavored coffee. (Review by a tourist based on a single visit on New Year's morning 2023.) I'm a coffee fiend and haven't had more than 6oz (total!) my entire pregnancy so far. This was the first cup I've had in a long while that made it impossible not to want to finish the whole cup. I don't like specialty drinks (usually get a black drip)--got an oat milk latte and it was divine! Actually I was planning to milk the cup all morning long but my parents accidentally finished it. Been super sad here for the past 10 min so I decided to write a review of this awesome place. Husband liked the biscuits and gravy (and the fact that they give it to you in a to go cup)! Honeymoon Bay is my neighborhood coffee shop. I love the smell of coffee roasting, and I can smell it in the air from my house. The coffee by itself is excellent. I usually order some kind of Mocha though. I love going here as I prefer local over Starbucks. However I have to say the drinks are a bit inconsistent here. It all depends on the Barista. They'll get a good one, but then they will move on for a new opportunity. Just last Monday I had a great Mocha that I would have given a 5 star review and today with a different Barista my mocha was so weak that it tastes like flavored milk. (1 star). If you are sure that your favorite barista is there then this place is the best. Otherwise just get a regular coffee. read more

I haven't even begun to sample all the different coffee places out on Whidbey, but this place has more than filled the bill on a couple of occasions. My sister was in need of a late-afternoon perk a few weeks ago, and loved the cup she got here. Then last weekend, looking for birthday presents for her, I hit this place up again--part of the fun of putting that birthday basket together was retracing some of the steps from our visit earlier this summer. This is a small strip mall coffee place without too much seating. The staff are friendly and cool, and the conversation's great, but they don't leave a lot of options around to facilitate lingering. They have given over most of the space to roasting coffee. The beans are great--so fragrant I was surprised my sister didn't know what she was getting hours before opening her present this weekend. I really wanted to get a mug, too, and they have a variety of options in tasteful styles and colors, all very large, so you can get lots of coffee at a time. That matters. Whidbey is loaded with very-local places making all kinds of foodstuffs, coffee, cosmetics, art, and so on. Of course nobody can claim to grow coffee beans locally around here, but the fresh-roasted results are wonderful. Every time I try one of these places out here, I want to come back and try them all, even if it's just so I can say I did. read more

Best coffee - period! I don't know what kind of voodoo they do with their in-house roasting, but it makes for an unbelievably good espresso, hot or cold. I've been loyal to Honeymoon Bay for about 3 years, and I bring everyone I know here - they're all converts! I'm a coffee snob, and as a life-long Seattle child, I rank this ABOVE the lauded Espresso Vivace, whose coffee is legitimately the best in the Seattle area. Honeymoon Bay has something even smoother and more beautiful than anything else I've had. Here are some special things: - All of their iced drinks include ice cubes made from the previous day's drip coffee remnants. That means no dilution, son. Pure coffee, even as your iced latte becomes less iced, it never becomes less latte. - In-house roasting means literally in-house, as in 15 feet away from the espresso machine. - They offer cold brew coffee, as well as sell the Toddy cold brew system so you can make your own. - Mike, the owner, is a fabulous and passionate coffee roaster who is frequently around the shop. This isn't your average money-focused coffee shop, which is why it hides behind a Walmart next to a tanning place. They're all about the coffee. I see their coffee in stores all over the island, and can't wait for it to be distributed closer to major cities. I recommend getting an iced drink, if the weather and your taste permits. Best iced lattes I've ever had. I don't know what they do to the coffee, but with regular syrup and regular milk going into a mocha or caramel latte, the great quality has to be due to the coffee. It's just really good. On top of that, the staff here are amazing, warm people, and getting to see all the roasting equipment and buy the beans for yourself is a huge plus. It's going to be very hard to go back to any other coffee after going to Honeymoon Bay every day for a week. If this is your regular coffee shop, know this: you are spoiled. read more

Really a stop-and-go java joint. Honeymoon specializes in wholesale more than retail. However, when the in-store roaster is in action, it's a nice layover. Some seating awaits as does free wifi and homemade pastries. But for most days, bring your mug in for a $1 refill and move along. The coffee is worth it. I'm bored with Starbucks' institutionalness (my word) but will admit that, on average, they do a pretty consistent job of serving decent-to-good coffee. I'm an espresso fan, but as much as I love independent coffee houses, I usually end up throwing my orders away because they're too bitter. Someone said that "...espresso should taste like freshly roasted coffee smells." Turns out, that's easier to say than to do, and explains why most people battle bitterness by dumping a ton of sugar and milk into their drinks. Not so for Honeymoon Bay (knock on wood). I've been a few dozen times and will keep coming back. They even roast their own beans, so prepare for a sensory treat when walking in the door. It's a funky local experience and their free Wi-Fi is blazingly fast - 18 mbs the last time I was there (Starbucks is usually around 1.2 mbs). Mike, the owner/roaster, obviously cares about his craft, and the staff is friendly. More than enough choices. I'm told that they started out as wholesale-only, supplying restaurants, however, their java got so popular that they decided to serve retail at the store. I have friends who drive all the way from Seattle just to restock their supply of Honeymoon beans. If I were to wish for something, it would be for later hours (currently close at 6 pm), and some regular local entertainment (poetry readings, music, whatever). They're tucked out of sight, just a block northeast of Walmart. Worth the effort. read more

Visited for the first time since they opened in 2011. I was initially intrigued by the concept of the store in a small naval town, claims they roast their own beans. However, when I checked for the roasting date on the packages for sale I couldn't find such...I bet I'm missing something as they store personnel appear knowledgeable about roasting coffee beans Ambience is fairly relaxed, small town and it seemed as if the regulars were very friendly! There is a small round table as you walk in to fill your own cup, as many locals did; plus pastries available!
