She was warm and personable and asked some questions to see if she felt she could help me. Once she determined she could, she set up a weekly time that worked with my schedule. Through my sessions, I gained so much understanding into connecting with my inner self. I had already spent a lot of time dwelling on my childhood emotional traumas and I had felt like I had a good grasp of my emotional patterns. I just hadn't figured out how to heal from them. Her first hypnotherapy session (which I would describe as a guided meditation) was a profound experience for me. I tried Jungian analysis--cool, interesting, even fun, but it didn't help. I tried Transcendental Meditation--I tried pretty much anything I thought might get me out of the hole I was in. Then one day, while walking my dog, I happened to pass the doors of CAST on Doheny and walked in. I was told it was a group therapy program based on CBT--Cognitive Behavioral Therapy--basically learning to recognize the thought and behavior patterns that keep you stuck, and how to change them. My mind immediately went to "The Bob Newhart Show" in the 1970s: sitting on low sofas in a glamorous office discussing our problems. As it turns out, that's not 'exactly' CAST. I spent about my first week there eye-rolling, resisting and generally being skeptical of the whole thing. I told myself, "One week and I'm outta here.") And then I gave in to the program, and it worked. Period. No, I'm not "cured." Mental health, at least for me, is an everyday practice, and I always keep an eye on myself. But after three months of intensive group and one-on-one therapy, I came out of the woods feeling much more like myself again (and more and more as time goes by). The therapists are extraordinary, as is their guidance. For me, especially Sarah, and also Samson. I'm enormously grateful to both of them. So, from a former eye-rolling cynic who is now something of a convert: if you're not doing okay, GO. Surrender a little. Let the program do its thing I'm very glad I did. Highly recommended.

For context, everyone else in the group was white and I was the only person of color. I was charged full price for all of her group sessions, yet she would cut me off and shut down my questions, and then blamed me for not "processing" fast enough to keep up with her pace. She refused to take full ownership for her poor behavior, justifying her rudeness as due to my being too "slow." In the last session she also excluded me from contributing to the group feedback and then said she would not charge me for the the session where I was forced to sit in total silence and not participate, but she never refunded me. Her billing person was also hard to get a hold of and not good at her job.
