The treatment may have worked. The clinical experience did not match what was sold. And no doctor even worked there the entire week. Our family member is a 19-year-old high performing athlete who has had daily headaches and post-concussion symptoms since October. After five months of neurologists finding nothing on standard MRI, we flew to CognitiveFX for the EPIC treatment week. The fNCI scan was genuinely illuminating -- the most objective picture of what was wrong that we'd had in five months. The treatment protocols were sophisticated and specifically mapped to her scan results. Her before and after scores moved dramatically. We believe something real happened this week. But here's what didn't happen. On day one I asked explicitly: by Friday we need an honest clinical assessment of when and if she can return to sports. That was the single most important ask. Friday's end-of-week review was conducted by a nurse and a trainer. No physician was available at any point during the entire treatment week. The doctor whose name is on her scans we have still never spoken to. In fact, we were told three of the four doctors listed at the clinic do not come in, and one wasn't coming in the entire week we were there. No doctors -- at all. We had to push hard just to get a Tuesday Zoom scheduled with the physician of record-- after the week was over and we were already on a plane home. There's more. CognitiveFX ordered a cervical spine MRI on day two of treatment. The radiologist found degenerative disc disease out of proportion with vertebral wedging from chronic axial loading. Nobody mentioned this to us during the week. We found out from a chiropractor we saw on the way to the airport Friday afternoon. CognitiveFX had that report for three days and said nothing. We also requested CognitiveFX's own return-to-sport specialist, who had committed to being part of the end-of-week process in a pre-treatment meeting be included in Friday's review. He wasn't there either. No one was but a thoughtful nurse. For what this week costs, the clinical consultation piece should not require a parent to fight for it after the fact. The diagnostic tool is real. The treatment protocols are real. The therapists and trainers were professional and clearly skilled. But a medically supervised program needs physicians who are actually present and accountable. That part was not delivered. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to come to CognitiveFX for 2 weeks. I think this program is AMAZING. I decided to come because I could either pay the price by continuing to live my life with post-concussion syndrome or I could pay the price to come to the best place in the world for treatment and then enjoy the rest of my life. I went to my local medical center and saw their neurologist and speech and memory therapist as well as had physical therapy. I was not getting better. A friend saw me in my condition and decided to research what was out there that could help me. I had no idea that there was a place like CognitiveFX. I made the best decision and flew to Provo Utah for treatment. The therapists cared so much about me and helping me get better. The patient care coordinators are very skilled and are very fun to work with. I connected with so many of them. I heard that they were world renowned before I came here and that absolutely is true. There were patients from several different countries here as well as local people and people from within the United States. Today is my last day and I really hate to leave this wonderful place. I feel like I've been able to get my old life back before my first concussion. The brain fog is gone! I feel like someone put a new brain in my head. The exhausting week and money was worth it for this amazing feeling. The one week, all day of hard work to help all areas of my brain function was incredible. Lunch was provided every day. The time to rest in between sessions was nice. It was so amazing to see I could do memory exercises at the end of the week that I was not able to do at the beginning of the week. When you get done you still have to continue with the exercises at home. Cognitive FX does provide you with a big binder of exercises. The MRI that was done before the week and at the end of the week were compared and there was a significant difference. Everyone who works here is so kind, patient, and understanding. It was so nice to meet other people who have been experiencing the same symptoms I have for so long. Not everyone understands how you feel but people at Cognitive FX do. Absolutely fantastic. The staff and Dr's were amazing! The therapy was very hard, but the staff made it fun and interesting as well. I'm still finding out all the things my new brain can do. I feel great. Highly recommend. Update: It's been 18 months since my treatment and I am still feeling fantastic. Even better than when the therapy first ended. In July of 2015 I was hit by a truck while riding my bike and spent 6 days in the ICU. The accident occurred two weeks before starting my second year of medical school. I was blessed to have no serious injuries that prevented me from returning to school and after a few weeks of recovery I returned to school. I had followed the standardized protocol established by doctors of resting and avoiding stimulation and had seen mild improvement. However, when I returned to medical school and was working to catch-up on the material I noticed that I still had significant cognitive impairment and was not the same student I was before. I talked with my doctors and they said that based upon their testing standards I was fine and that if I continued to have problems that I would have to "adapt" and consider changing my expectations for my career and consider leaving medical school to function within my new abilities. I continued to struggle for the next year of school at the end of which I was weighing my options for the future. While in Utah visiting family I heard about CFX from a friend. I visited the clinic and met with Dr. Fong who aptly explained to me the effects of concussions, the resulting physiological changes, and how CFX treatment could help me recover. She provided me with the stats proving the effectiveness of the treatment and scientific literature supporting the treatment methods. I underwent the week of EPIC treatment in May of 2016 and immediately saw the results. I returned to medical school the following week and felt the impact of treatment; I was less tired, I could focus, retain, and recall information again. It's impossible to describe my total experience with cognitive fx. I received my TBI 5.5 yrs ago and a minor one a few years before that. Functioning was beyond difficult with my brain injury. I went to dozens of doctors and the ER and got multiple CT and MRI scans all telling me to just live with the "new conditions" and that my brain looked fine structurally. I especially hated intermountain sports injury clinic were they gave me pills that made my stomach bleed and told me to rest it off. CFX was the only place that seemed hopeful. I chose them over DR. AMEN clinic and I was very glad I did. After raising the money online and through family I was able to go through epic treatment. Dr.fong was confident she could help me.... the only dr. I met who told me this. I went through treatment and learned so much, they worked me hard and with the fNCI scan they were able to pinpoint the right areas that my brain needed to recover. By Thursday I was feeling huge results! I was able to actually sing in the car whiteout feeling like I was going to pass out! My anxiety levels dropped a ton! I was experiencing life like I had never remembered it (4yrs with the symptoms was too long for me) then over time things kept getting better I did the small recommendations they proscribed for me and I was able to get another scan a year later that confirmed my brain had healed even more! I was so beyond happy with my experience at CFX . I loved the staff and their methodology. I would recommend it for anyone. If a poor college student can raise the money to come so can you. It's worth very bit. I have my life back and more. I work 40hrs weeks and go to the gym after and continue working till later. Something I could never dream of doing. Cognitive Fx gave me my life back. I'm 24 and I had migraines every single day for the past three years all day.. I couldn't remember simple things like a conversation I had with my mom five minutes ago. I also suffered with major anxiety this past summer which I never had before. Truly incredible. This was a life changing experience. I got a severe concussion from a skiing accident that was complicated by my multiple other concussions I had received from football in high school. This resulted in me not being able to do anything that I used to. I struggled through school for a few weeks, but eventually had to take a medical withdrawal and go home. I saw neurologists that prescribed me heavy anti-depressants and anxiety medications and told me to just sit and wait it out. "Time is the only thing that can heal brain injuries" were they're exact words. So I did as I was told. For months I sat through the pain and drifted through the days. Those of you that have had the experience know its unpleasant. The feeling of not even being conscious while your awake, like you're sleep walking or a zombie. Not being able to process even simple tasks like fixing food answering yes or no questions. All while dealing with migraine level pain and intense random anxiety. After six months straight of waiting with no results I had had enough of that. So I started physical therapies that were concussion focused. They seemed to help a little after a month, but I was nowhere near where I needed to be to function properly. That's when my aunt told me about this clinic called cognitive fx. She is in the military and had heard about it from a veteran that had been through it and seen incredible results. She urged me to go to it. Once I had looked at it and seen they're insane sounding claims that you'd see results in just one week, I had almost dismissed it entirely as a scam. I didn't believe for a second that after the months I've spent seeing nothing that a week would be all it takes. But I did some reading and looked at reviews and slowly eased my skepticism. I knew if I didn't get better soon I would miss the opportunity for a big internship. It was the biggest opportunity of my life and I couldn't afford to miss it. So, skepticism held high, I bit the bullet and went there. The program is certainly challenging, definitely one of the harder things I have done in life. But I was ready to push myself to my absolute limits if it meant I would get better. Everyday after treatment my head felt like is on the verge of exploding and I was completely fried. But the last few days were different. I felt like a fog had been lifted that had been there for a long time. I felt sharper and could even exercise without feeling like passing out. My skepticism was starting to disappear. The fMRI showed that I had gone from severe impairment to functioning above average. It seemed too good to be true. In just one week I had improved an impossible amount. I was waiting for Ashton Kutcher to come out and say that I've been punked. And I wasn't the only one that saw results. There were 8 others that went through the treatment that week and we all got to know each other throughout. The energy in the room was so much different the last day from the first day. Everyone was sharp and peppy instead of the zombies we were the first day. TO BE ABSOLUTELY FAIR my improvement was more drastic than any of the others and the clinicians also said I had improved more than their average patient, so you may not see results this drastic in just the week. But as they tell you, improvement only starts there. It continues for months after you go home. It is now been two months since I walked into the clinic and I am feeling almost completely back to normal. I made it in time to do my internship as a project engineer, and I am able to do so without any complications. I am able to do things now that I couldn't even think about doing just a couple months ago. Cognitive fx changed my life and I urge you to see them if you are not getting better and have been told that time is the answer. TIME IS NOT THE ANSWER. Do this treatment and give it your all. You will see results just like me and many others. I am trying to get the word out about this place because I know there are a lot of people in the same situation I was in that have no idea about it and are feeling hopeless.
