This is the worst Cohens Fashion Optical in the area. I go to this eyewear establishment because it is in my insurance network. Please save yourself the headache , time and aggravation and elsewhere. The eye doctor was so interested in my employers business that he did the exam in record time , not giving it much thought. I asked "Thats all?" Oh yes, your script is all set. I explained to him about my recent eye surgeries and he nodded as he walked me out to the counter. I had picked my frame before , as I had arrived early . They measured my PT and "eye balled" where my progressive line would be. This was 2nd week in December. My glasses were not ready to be picked up until March . Needless to say , I have worn progressive glasses prior. But these were so strong I could not even read what they gave me to read . I told her they are to strong. The lady at the counter said "it just takes time to get used to". I called a few times to speak to someone but either the phone ran and no answering service or they told me to come back and wait a few hours for the doctor . I left. Last week I went to my retinal specialist whom agrees that the prescription was way too strong. I have tried for days to call them , but no one answers. I'm going back to my original Cohens in Nanuet, it's worth the 45 minutes drive. read more

Eye examination was very thorough. Got the glasses in an hour. Prices were reasonable. I highly recommend this business. read more

I had a contact lens exam one year ago and decided to return (5th Avenue and 14th Street). I called and was very detailed in my information - I said I would be paying out of pocket since my insurance does not cover contact lenses and was quoted a price of $50. HOWEVER when I arrived the price had jumped to $130. When I asked why the price had nearly tripled I was given a ludicrous reason that 'some insurance we don't accept' even though I had said that I would be paying out of pocket. AND the woman who did the explaining wasn't wearing a mask; when I asked her why she said she 'didn't have to because she was on the retail side of the store'. REALLY??? Got my 1st pair of eye glasses here in Nov 2011. Although most of the staff were texting away, I was lucky to get an amazing sales girl. She was attentive, helpful and gave great recommendations. Settled on D&G tortoise frames that I still have and wear today. Anyhow 4 pairs of eye glasses later and 3 pairs of sunglasses, I am still going there. I also put a ring on that sales girls finger! Once she put the frames on my face, I could finally see clearly. funny how the 2 bad reviews are from people who claim to have been there on the same day and have less than 5 reviews each. Came here the other day looking for a new pair of glasses. I was greeted immediately and was questioned if I needed any help. The sale associates were respectful and gave me my space when I was 'just looking'. They weren't pushy with their sales unlike some eye glass stores I've been to. My eye exam was super easy and I was in and out quickly. They provide a large selection of your brand/non-brand named glasses with a few selection of sunglasses. I opt for a pair of really cute Gucci frames at an amazing price (who knew!!). The staff was very friendly and had great optical knowledge about the lenses, durability of the frames, and the insurance provided for the lenses. I'd recommend anyone to come to Cohens just because it was such an easy process with a great staff. read more

I went in to have an eye exam and shop for new frames in the middle of March. My frames needed to be ordered and unfortunately they needed to shut down due to covid. They weren't able to receive my frames but John went above and beyond to get me an alternate pair made while I'm waiting for my original frame. Even went as far as delivering it personally to my home! Excellent customer service, that earned them a customer for life! Great work! read more

I was really desperate to get a new prescription and change my lenses to the new prescription on my glasses. I originally went into LensCrafters because that is where I bought my glasses. I asked them how much it would cost just to get my eyes tested and change the lenses. The eye exam was 90 (not bad) and to change my lenses, WITH INSURANCE, she told me 332 dollars?!?!?! So 430 dollars basically in total.... I left and went to Cohen's. The man who did the eye exams was already supposed to have gone home and was working on one more person and I asked Katherine if I could please be seen because I was only in town for the holidays. She asked the eye examiner and he said yes!! :) I was so happy. I was seen fast!! So glad I was able to be seen because my prescription changed a lot! It cost me $150 to change the lenses in my glasses and it cost $99 dollars to get an eye exam and a new pair of glasses ($50 just for eyes test) so I got the deal for $99. I ended up paying a total of $249 for my lenses to be changed in my original glasses, a new pair of glasses, and an eye test. John was so helpful. He helped me while I was indecisively picking out a new pair of glasses. He was very honest with what he thought looked good and not so good. He then managed to change my lenses on my original glasses and get my new glasses ready within 30 minutes or so. OH! And my original glasses were getting loose and he tightened them for me. SO NICE!!! So fast, so efficient. He then gave me a bag with both of my glasses (in new cases), as well as a spray and wipes to clean my glasses. First time customer--I bought a pair of $700+ glasses (brand Chanel plus some lenses) last January 2013 from Cohen's and was satisfied with the purchase (not really about the price) and customer service UNTIL they broke unexpectedly on me 13 months later. I went back to them to show the break as to which they stated that since it was over a year there was nothing they can do. Since the price was so outrageous and the break was not my fault (usual wear, always in a case when they weren't worn, there was a defect with the product--instead of a screw attaching the temple to the front, it was melted plastic that became worn which caused the temple to eventually not be able to fit and stay put), I reached out to Cohen's corporate customer service and over the course of 8 weeks through numerous emails, voicemails, and tweets (only to be answered maybe 3 times as opposed to my 10+ requests and complaints) I was finally told to go back to Cohen's as the manager would help me out. Lo and behold, I return to the store with my issue, wait for an employee first for 30 minutes for an existing customer to finish their purchase (meanwhile the other worker would not address my issues as they said that employee 1 would) and then get bumped again 10 minutes for another purchasing customer who not only completed a transaction but had a lengthy conversation of vacationing with the person who was supposed to help me. After it was finally my turn, I was told that crazy glue would do the trick. $750 Chanel glasses. Crazy glue. Does no one else see an issue here? Needless to say I will not be purchasing any Chanel branded items, especially eyewear, nor will I ever set foot in a Cohen's ever again. Luckily Lens Crafters is right around the corner at this location and won't be as inconsiderate as them. Or there's always Lasik to avoid this altogether! read more

My husband and I went for his examination. First time trying Cohen. The Dr and the front office staff were a pleasure to work with. Our insurance wasn't excepted for his contacts which was no surprise. I liked everything about this shop so I decide to give it a try myself today. Same results. Warm and friendly when I walked in and Dr Bullock was great. I even tried on Chanel sunglasses but they weren't right for me. Went to the mall with the intention of buying new pairs of glasses that day. Stopped at LensCrafters first and was so disappointed by the selection. Later I went into Cohen's and I was so happy to see so many different frames that I loved! The associate was sooo helpful she let me try on frames to my hearts content and even let me have a few out at a time to keep comparing how they looked on me (I've gone to other places where they only let you have ONE frame out at a time so I couldn't really compare). They were also having a special so I got an eye exam for free with the purchase of the frames. I ended up buying two designer pairs AND having an eye exam I was left so happy! To make the experience even better, they said my glasses wouldn't be ready for pickup for 7 business days and they were ready TWO DAYS later! They adjusted the frames as many times as I asked for them to feel comfortable on me, I just couldn't have been happier with my experience here, I'll definitely be coming back!! Very poor customer service at this location. I was browsing and ready to purchase a pair of designer eye glasses on the spot. The girl behind he counter was rude and appeared bored. I wanted to try on multiple pairs so I could see what looked the best on me. She only let me try on one pair at a time, and would put the previous pair back in the case before I could try on a different pair! The whole time she was staring at me as I was looking at myself in the mirror... I guess to make sure you don't steal? It was a weird experience. Lenscrafters in Garden State at least has all the eyeglasses out and available to try on at your leisure (but they don't have as good of a selection). If you are looking to get your eye exam done by a cold and rude doctor this is the place for you! I came here to get an eye exam and the doctor, Alfonso C Bullock II was completely callus and unapproachable from the moment I walked into his office. Whatever issues he's having should not be reflected on his professional approach to treating his patients. His instructions were very vague and would not explain any testing/procedure he was doing. When I asked him questions regarding the exam or issues I've been having with my eyes, his answers were terse and unclear. He should work on his customer service skills because I surely will not come back here and would warn everyone I know to avoid this place. 1/10 read more

They have a large poster outside their door advertising an eye exam for 29 dollars. I walked in and repeatedly asked if I was obligated to buy a pair of glasses. Each time, I was told that no, I can just get the eye exam and walk out. I got the eye exam. The doctor was professional and courteous, all well. Wrote out the prescription and I walked out. Later that day, I realized the prescription was missing the pupil distance. Something I would need to order glasses elsewhere. I came back and asked for the information. I was explicitly told that they only provide this information if I order a pair of glasses from them. I offered to pay more. They told me they will not provide it for any amount, unless I buy a pair of glasses from them. Unfortunate. Called my credit card company. read more

I asked for a detailed description of a younger sibling prescription, that is- numbers legible to read for a pleb such as myself. Usually they are formatted two ways, one is a way for an optician using his instruments, and another for retail where you can just plug in numbers based on your prescription (L/R,AX,PD) to buy lenses online. The digital era we live in, most consumers and regular joe customers need explaining as to how to use the information given to them. Even on a medical prescription...I will not be returning to this cohens because of the poor customer service and the lazy hasty way I was spoken to on the phone when told I just had to get the scanning of the prescription sent to me to an optician...if I want to use the information (I didn't receive) for an out of network non insured retailer to buy lenses, I absolutely can. It is legal.i can also come in person to pick these numbers up.And I have obtained this information I sought out from other chains such as LensCrafters for myself once I could verify my identity. Even over the phone. Even over email. I understand cohens is also owned by different leases and different owners therein. But because of the underwhelming nature of my experience with the manager at this location I will be taking all of my money, and good faith else where. Please note, I will always need a new pair of glasses as everyone in my family does. We won't be coming back. read more

DO NOT GET YOUR GLASSES ADJUSTED HERE - THEY RUINED THE LENSES I went in for an eye exam, which was very professional and thorough. However, on the way out, I asked for my glasses to be adjusted. One of the opticians returned my glasses to me with streaks on the lenses -- when I looked more closely, I could see that the coating had become severely scratched/cracked. They were blurry and I could no longer see out of them. Despite a lengthy discussion, they insisted that my lenses had been like that before (they hadn't), and that they had removed the lenses prior to heating the frames for adjustment - so there was no way they had done anything wrong. I then went to large, national optical store, and spoke with an optician there. He said there was "no doubt" they had heated the lenses, since it was a clear example of "crazing" and "only heat will do that." I called the Cohen's corporate office, and they gave me a run-around about how they couldn't take any liability when adjusting glasses, etc. They contacted the store and spoke w/ the optician there, who once again denied heating the lenses. In the end they offered me 2/3 off the price to replace my lenses, but I'm so annoyed with the whole thing I'm just going elsewhere to get new glasses. The worst part - they refused to admit they did any wrong! Not to mention they were still going to charge me for replacing the lenses. So beware -- ALWAYS make sure to tell opticians to take our your lenses before heating your glasses to adjust them, since at least at Cohen's, they won't admit it if they forget to do it!! read more

My mom has always bought her glasses there and service has been great. Her glasses broke and she went to have them fixed or replaced and was treated very badly - nasty service and they were extremely rude. Needless to say they have now lost her as a customer and she will be telling all her friends and relatives that she told to go there not to go anymore. read more

Note: This was the letter I e-mailed via Cohen's main website. They haven't responded two days later. I was given an exam and bought contacts at this store and tried to return six months later, around New Years, for more contacts boxes. The store's staff told me that the doctor had quit and taken the prescriptions and that I should e-mail her at the address [REDACTED]. After e-mailing that address, the person responding was a Dr. Tam John. I requested that this doctor scan and attach my prescription and they told me they wanted a physical address and would mail it. That was fine so I gave them an address. They never mailed it. It has been eleven days since I e-mailed with the address and I have sent three e-mails total since then and received no further response. I am very frustrated with this experience. Unless this Dr. Tam John mails my prescription and sends e-mail confirmation of having mailed it in the next week, I will have to vow never to do business with your chain again. I request that you contact Dr. Tam John at the e-mail address given, or via phone if you know the number, and explain the situation. Thank you. read more

I recently moved to NJ from Brooklyn and in search of a good glasses. I am one of those people who needs advice on my purchases. I went to Cohens in Paramus and tried on numerous pairs of glasses. They have a great selection and the staff was extremely patient and courteous as i asked for opinions on w\each pair i tried on. I know that I was steered in the right direction because I went to work with my new glasses and received nothing but compliments. I went to this place because it takes my insurance but this is the second cohens i been to where they tried to overcharge me and not allow me to use my full insurance benefits. They checked what my insuranced covered but it was inaccurate. I kept telling them i thought they were wrong but they insisted. I don't know how they can commit this sort of insurance fraud and still be in business. This has happened twice to me at a cohens at first i thought it was a mistake but twice at 2 different locations. Something is not right here. Please stay away if you can. read more

Came in and was hoping for a reccomendation on glasses that would be flattering, sales associate was attentive but didnt have much input on helping me pick out a good pair. I asked if they required an updated prescription because i was worried it would be too much along with the purchase of a new set of glasses. She said they reccomend an update but its not necessary, They didnt accept the groupon i came in with even tho its for their company, & I went elsewhere in the mall to see other options. I came upon the booth Glassy people, I also asked them if they required an updated script, They informed me that Cohens around the corner was doing Eye exams for just $29, the cheapest I ever heard of. I was just there and the associate never mentioned it, even after i told her i was worried about an expensive eye exam. I went back to Cohens to see if they had an opening, I was seen immediatedly, The Dr. was nice and prompt, The exam wasnt crazy thorough , instead of option A or B? A or C? A or d? and etc. it was more which is better, asked about once or twice and my new script was set. i was in and out of there for only $29.
