I do not typically leave negative reviews, but based on my experience I cannot recommend this firm. After an initial consultation and payment of a very large flat fee, communication significantly declined. My case was primarily handled by another attorney (Jessica Hernandez) after intake/consultation/interview with (David Maletta). I experienced repeated delays and unreturned calls and emails. There were also many instances where the legal strategy discussed and agreed upon during meetings and documented in follow up emails were simply not followed. I raised these concerns several times with firm leadership in writing and during calls. While I was repeatedly told the issues would be addressed, I did not see changes in communication, responsiveness, or case handling. The overall experience became extremely stressful ans frustrating, especially considering the amount of money paid versus the level of attention and follow-through I expected. They then asked for more money. Ultimately, I made the decision to hire different counsel. After changing firms, my matter was resolved within a few months, for less money and in a way that aligned exactly with the strategy I believed should have been pursued from the beginning. Every legal matter is different, but based on my personal experience, I would strongly encourage potential clients to carefully evaluate fee structures, communication expectations, and who will actually be handling their case day-to-day before retaining this firm. David Maletta literally saved my friends life. If the state of Arizona decides to wrongfully charge you with assault you have a 3.5% chance of getting all charges dropped. My friend who has a masters degree and has a great career was attacked in old town by a guy named billy who is much larger than him, who is covered in tattoos and has a mohawk haircut but won the fight due to Billy being sloppy drunk from drinking all day for Sunday funday in old town. Billy and his friends then filed a false police report against my friend to try to get him thrown in jail for months, pay tens of thousands of dollars in restitution and have a criminal record for the rest of his life. The police did not know or care that Billy was thrown out of the navy for assaulting several people. My friend hired David Maletta and they destroyed Billy and his best friend Taylor in court by getting each other to completely contradict themselves constantly and their original stories as well. All charges were dropped which is statistically the equivalent of winning the lottery in the tough on crime state of Arizona. Darrin Colburn, I hired as a rescue lawyer for my divorce proceedings 6 weeks before we were scheduled for trial. My previous lawyer had done nothing in the year leading up to this and charged me more than Darrin. Darrin was able to negotiate terms and avoid trial in a short amount of time. He also gave me advice and reviewed everything from opposing counsel unlike my previous lawyer who would just forward emails asking me what I wanted to do (he said he didn't review anything because he was trying to save me money). I joke that I will hire Darrin for my second divorce, but I am never getting married again. I don't know what would have happened if it wasn't for Darrin, but I know I am in the best place possible because of him.
