Got the banana caramel crunch sub vanilla ice cream base for cheesecake ice cream and it was delicious! Had the how the cookie crumbles without the frosting and realized it was just oreo with cookie dough ice cream, not cookie dough. Would have been better with cookie dough as well

This place is expensive! I paid $42 for a 6 inch ice cream cake! The only reason I did was because my daughter asked for this particular birthday cake! It's the smallest cake I have EVER seen! Not happy.

We came by on the 4th of July after a movie and they were closing. The owner was kind enough to treat my daughter to a cup of her favorite, chocolate with sprinkles and m&ms. Thank you so much!!

Ordered a custom ice cream cake 48 hours in advance for my 2 year old kids birthday. I am so impressed with the custom lettering wishing my kid a happy birthday. Pretty impressive for a $40 cake! Thanks Cold Stone Creamery...

Large coffee ice cream with mix in on the side bc of rushed service

Nice spot and location but your experience depends on who serves you it seems. Our server was in such a hurry we had to ask for the mix in on the side. No smile no hello no nothing from her. The guy with the long pony tail helped some others while we were there and he's more personable and tosses the ice cream in the air. Overall the ice cream is good though

Vegan options for people who can't have dairy. They also went out of their way to make the ice cream safe for a Celiac in our group.

The ice cream was very good. I went during a week day and it was empty so the service was very fast.

Peanut butter coffee was terrible. The manager saw my frustration and offered me a replacement. 5 star for customer service.

In the storied enclave of Waldo, where the rhythm of Kansas City pulses with a quiet, neighborly…read morecharm, there stands a sanctuary not of silent stone, but of flour, butter, and memory: McLain's Bakery. To step through its threshold is to surrender to the siren song of warmth that curls from the oven like a whispered secret. I have made it my pilgrimage to traverse the entirety of their menu, a culinary odyssey that has yielded no false steps, only a symphony of consistency that borders on the miraculous. Each offering, from the flaky, golden architecture of their pastries to the robust, honest comfort of their savory fare, is a testament to the artisan's hand. Here, affordability is not a sacrifice of quality but a generous invitation, a rare confluence where the exquisite meets the accessible. There is a certain magic in the air at McLain's, a sweetness that feels woven into the very fabric of the establishment. It is a place that understands the language of comfort, speaking it fluently in the dialect of a perfect crust or the rich, dark notes of a expertly pulled espresso. It is perhaps no surprise that such a bastion of authentic delight has garnered a reputation that extends far beyond our local borders; if the standard of excellence is high enough to grace the plate of Taylor Swift, then surely, it is more than enough for us, the grateful residents who claim this treasure as our own. Yet, beyond the flour-dusted counters and the glowing glass cases, my deepest admiration is reserved for their spirit. In a world that often measures worth in cold, transactional metrics, McLain's chooses to honor those who pour themselves into the future of our community. As a teacher, I feel that recognition in the small gestures, the welcoming nods, and the genuine appreciation they extend to educators. It is a profound kindness, a recognition that the work of shaping minds requires nourishment, both intellectual and literal. They understand that a classroom is a marathon, and they act as the essential pit stop, providing the fuel that keeps the light of inquiry burning bright. To dine at McLain's is to participate in a ritual of belonging. It is a place where the passage of time is marked not by the ticking of a clock, but by the turning of the oven trays. It is a reliable heartbeat in the neighborhood, steadfast and true, offering a reprieve from the clamor of the outside world. Whether one seeks a quiet moment of reflection over a cup of coffee or a celebratory feast that honors the simple, profound joy of eating well, McLain's remains an unrivaled steward of taste. It is not merely a bakery; it is the living, breathing soul of Waldo, a place where every bite serves as a reminder that some things in this life are exactly as good as they ought to be.

We checked this place out for the first time using the Too Good to Go app. You get what you get,…read moreand we got a small container of chocolate gelato for $3.99, which didn't seem like a very good deal and sucked because I don't like chocolate ice cream. The hubs will try it later... We also got two little cakes, strawberry and chocolate. The strawberry was very good and the chocolate was ok. Love removing in the outside. We also got a little blueberry bar and it was yummy. Staff was not super friendly and prices are a bit high for the small sizes.

Wally's Pastry Shop holds a very special place in my heart. Wally was a good friend of my father,…read moreand that alone tells you the kind of man he was--kind, generous, and deeply rooted in his community. In 1991, Wally made my wedding cake as a gift, and it's something I will never forget. Not just because the cake was absolutely beautiful and delicious (it was!), but because it was made with love. That's what sets Wally's apart--you can feel the heart behind everything that comes out of that kitchen. The pastries are classic, fresh, and timeless. Nothing trendy or overdone--just perfectly executed desserts that remind you why bakeries like this matter. The flavors are authentic, the quality is consistent, and every bite feels like a tradition being honored. The addition of Gelato brings me straight back to Italy! Wally's isn't just a pastry shop; it's a piece of history, a reminder of a time when relationships mattered and food was made with care. I'm grateful for the memories, the kindness, and the incredible desserts that have been part of my life for decades. I miss hearing all of Wally's stories, as a pastry chef making hearts like Sinatra, and many Presidents happy! He loved what he did! If you're lucky enough to enjoy Wally's, know that you're tasting more than pastry--you're tasting legacy.
