We stop here after dinner for a treat since this ice cream shop just open up. Order at the window. Outdoor seating. No inside seating. Prompt service. There was no line when we got there. Lots of selection on the menu. A small one scoop ice cream was about $5.99. Seem a little high and the cup or scoop was quite small. I ordered the cold brew brownie ice cream. It was okay. May come back to try their banana split.

More than just Frozen Custard!…read more For perspective, it has been said people should be more than a "pretty face.'' I do like their frozen custard as much as I do Ted Drew's in St. Louis! But it might be a disservice to some of the other things available. In the "Covid Lockdown Era", we're open to safe drive throughs and curbside delivery as an alternative to actually cooking meals in our kitchen. So on a whim we decided to check out their non-frozen offerings for dinner. Pulling up at the dive through a friendly voice came out of the speaker. As we had never had anything but frozen custard their we did quick looks at their menu. I settled on a "Rockin Burger" (¼ lb Angus patty served on a butter toasted bun with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles and King sauce), my order without the tomatoes and pickles as that's my taste. My wife latched onto the "KC Jazz Burger" (¼ lb Angus patty served on a butter toasted bun with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, sizzling bacon and BBQ sauce). Both were ordered as "meals," adding fries and a medium Pepsi product. On first glance we were both impressed with quantity served. Not following the herd, the burgers were actually bigger than the buns (not a "Where's the Beef" moment). Red onions rather than chopped onions was another case of walking on the wild side. The buns were another high point. Not anemic or overpowering the sandwiches, they had great flavor without some hard crust or mushy afterthought - easily enhancing the sandwiches. The fries were very good for fast food. The BBQ sauce was light and also flavor enhancing (acceptable in Kansas City). The tab for both meals was around $16.00 including tax. Adding to the enjoyment, the packaging allowed for the meals to still be hot when we finished to 3 mile drive home (kind of rare in fast food). For now they only offer drive through and delivery during the lockdowns. Safety first. Looking past the "Pretty Face" of their frozen custard, there is real substance within their menu. That initial "whim" paid off, and I am sure we will be returning.

The ice cream itself is nothing special, but the theming of this place is really fun. Great…read moreatmosphere, retro vibes, cool seating and a big checkers set outside. However, I couldn't help but notice the egregious looking AI slop poster plastered all over the store to advertise their rewards program. It put enough of a damper on the place to make me decide to never go there again. I find it very insulting as a customer when a business tries to advertise with such obviously AI images. It makes it feel like a scam. What flavors are these even supposed to represent? You guys couldn't pull free stock images off of the internet? Polluting the environment and making your business look cheap and shady because you couldn't be bothered to use a photo of real ice cream? A phone picture of the ice cream actually in the store would've been better than this. Next time, I'll go to Poppy's on Third Street. The ice cream is better, anyway.

I've been a member of the "club" for years now and never had an issue. The woman I believe is the manager said, "Maybe it'll load for your next visit" as if I wouldn't know that's the general Customer Service "kiss off" (not to mention that offer's only good for so many days past your birthday). I asked for a cup to put my overflow ice cream in from the waffle cone that was melting while having to stand there while she faked attempting to be doing something. She gave me the smallest cup and I had to ask for a lid. Some older gentleman came in and they went and sat in the dining area. I thought it was an interview of some sort, but then they started small talking and obviously knew each other outside of a professional setting. The younger "kid" who made my ice cream needs a raise though! He was friendly, enthusiastic, and professional. DEFINITELY the highlight of my night and the only reason I'm not giving this only 1 star!

They offered to make it within the next 20 minutes, I let them know I needed to drive three girls to their birthday party and would come back for the cake. I got a call 30 minutes later saying that the cake could not be made because my order did not come in in time. After finally tracking down and speaking to the manager, she told me there was a "glitch in the system" and that my order actually never came in. None of this could possibly be true, being as my receipt was in the shop when I arrived. They all acknowledged that my order had arrived at the store, but no one bothered making it. Avoid this place at all cost. While I was waiting around a woman arrived asking for a dairy free option, the girl behind the counter said she did not know if they had one, and offered "sugar free". I walked over and pointed out the dairy free option to the woman who came in. I don't work there, but standing there for 10 minutes I was more versed in the produce than their paid employees. Absolute train wreck of a business. I ended up driving frantically to Hyvee to grab last minute cakes as opposed to having nothing. This was supposed to be a too tier dessert treat for a special occasion. What a profound disappointment.

Up until now, I've always had a good experience at this location. Unfortunately, my visit on 5/6/26 around 8 PM was disappointing. I ordered a quart of the Apple Pie A La Cold Stone, which is supposed to include French vanilla ice cream, apple pie filling, pie crust, cinnamon, and caramel. The young man preparing it barely added any mix-ins at all. There were only a few tiny pieces of apple in the entire container, and when I politely asked if he could add a little more, he only added what looked like one extra piece. The quart container also didn't seem properly filled for the price. I understand the employees were young and likely still learning, and I didn't want to make a scene because there was a line of customers waiting. Still, when customers are paying premium prices, they expect the portions and ingredients to match what's advertised. I'm hoping this was just an off night because I really do enjoy Cold Stone, but consistency and portion quality definitely matter.
