I'd like to see the census results of Chinese Buffets per capita today compared to ten years ago. There's fewer these days for sure, but they're always fun. Golden Apple was a really nice, clean place. Surrounded by modern decor, the food was fresh and flavorful. I read good reviews of the Crab Rangoon, and can confirm those. More of my favorites: stuffed mussels, teriyaki chicken, general tso's chciken, mushrooms, sirloin steak, lo mein, fried rice and FROG LEGS. I also really enjoyed the dessert. Me and my husband has heard about this buffet place since it was in our neighborhood but this was our first time going. We didn't have high expectations as buffet places are usually what you would expect. Personally this place was great for what it's worth and since it's in the area. My husband was so excited seeing the crawfish as that's his usual to go dish at buffets! The food was good and what you would expect from buffets. We did love the setting and layout as it doesn't look like your typical buffet. Some big plus we're definitely the service. When we left as well they offered me a fresh to go cup of my soda which has never happened at buffet places for me. We would say the only downside is variety. First off I am not big buffet person. I feel for most part they are low quality and just more food than I would ever eat. Waste of $$ & food. This was certainly the case here. Tried a bite of every chicken there. The beef just didn't look appealing so passed. None of it good. The tempura was ok but, the sweet and sour sauce was dark red thick syrup. Not good. The sesame chicken was just funky like anise taste and I hate black liquorice but, I tasted a hint of it. Yuck. Cold food. And piles of it when restaurant is not even half full at lunch on Saturday. Not good. Egg roll was dense flavourless , dumplings were blah, crab ragoon was edible but, again the sweet and sour syrup was a no go. The "fried" rise obviously yellow rice and frozen vegggies. Not fried at all. Hardly any of it was made there. Package food. Definitely not worth going out spending $22 per person on over processed food. Ice tea was looked and taste like instant. Good selection of standard Chinese buffet plus sushi. Everything tasted good but a couple of items not being kept hot enough. Made me a little nervous to eat those. (Most seemed to be proper holding temps so it may have just been a random issue.) Also, I was given my water at the beginning of the meal and I was never checked on again. It's buffet so not a lot of service is required but a refill of my drink or picking up used plates is a pretty low bar that was not met. Would I go back? Yeah, probably. Recommend to others? Food cold! Had a funky flavor on almost everything, including the ice tea. Nice concept but the poor quality of the food was such a downer. We told the waiter and the cashier and all they could say was sorry. The hot food was cold and the cold food was warm or hot! One issue also was the flavors. I LOVED this place!!! It's not blow you out of the water fantastic, but for what it is I was surprised! Everything tasted delicious and they brought out a lot of fresh food frequently. The sushi was a little dry so some soy sauce is needed. The dumplings were AMAZING oh I could eat them all! I love the wide variety of options as well as some American options. We were quickly sat down, but waited quite awhile for our waters. But after that our plates were quickly collected as we ate throughout the night! It was quite busy the night we went, so was a louder environment, especially with screaming and crying children. The music was not overly loud so I was able to have a conversation with people with ease! I love how you can see them cooking some things behind the buffet. Golden Apple was suchhh a nice surprise as someone who's grown up going to buffets every week. Coming from an asian family the most important part about a buffet for us is the seafood. Golden Apple is the only place I've seen that serves delicious and fresh crawfish, with literally no line when they bring it out. They've also got cold whole crabs cut in half (i prefer crab legs) but that typically has no line for it either. Their sushi bar was excellent. It was a good variety while being cut into small enough pieces you felt like you could go for more and they had sashimi pieces for you to grab as well. Crawfish & Crab seem to be only served during their dinner hours & on Sundays. Aside from seafood, they had a decent variety of chicken to pick from and shrimp dishes, my favorite is always the coconut shrimp. The salad bar was a little lacking but I've never seen someone go to a buffet for the salad. Another impressive thing was their desserts. They had huge strawberries, crunchy green grapes, the usual dessert dishes and cupcakes. They've also got a small area for little snacks like chips that you can grab right next to the icecream. The ambiance was nice. They've got cool lighting fixtures from the ceiling and it's pretty spacious in there. I will say some people said the layout was awkward & while I can see that it's not as bad as it was made out to be. I never had to wait for any of my food. Between this & Joy Wok I would choose Golden Apple. Their quality is good because they don't have heaps of different options, yet their options are perfect for good variety. Their seafood tastes fresh & they've got small quirks within their buffet that I haven't seen anywhere else. Staff is more attentive here also. read more

9-21-25 I ate add the golden apple buffet and the guy who was prepping the sations and pretty rude. Um I don't like their first sushi. That is set up when I'm going to get sushi. Because I know that they put out the old before you get to the new so I pick what sushi I want. I'm paying for the buffet. I get to pick what I want. Well, the guy was having a cow over it, so I had already got 2 plates and I know I'm not a big eater, but he made me so mad. I ended up getting a full plate of sushi that I knew I wasn't gonna eat the first sushi I ate. Ah. Was gross and the rice was all hard and stuff, because they don't throw their food away. This is why people get sick and he was. That's why he was getting upset is because they push out their old and they don't want you to get the new because then they have to make new sushi. So they're pushing out the old sushi and he got mad, because I didn't want to pick that, and so he had to keep moving that sushi up so that somebody else comes behind me and picked the old sushi out. So after he called me an idiot and his language like he thought that I wouldn't understand um, I decided I was gonna finish my meal and I didn't finish the sushi and um and I'm not gonna come back and I'm not going to, because, no matter what you should never call. Your customer, an idiot. So I don't recommend this place, they say they're getting away with talking in their language that they can just go off and call people idiots and stuff and like you're not going to catch on like there's not apps out there that translate their language like, are they not app and hit to what's going on? So I don't recommend I don't recommend it, but if you eat there, then you know high 5-T, but just be very careful, because that's what they're doing, they're pushing out the old. Social media had me thinking this might be the next best buffet with fresh sushi and half dungeon crabs. Nope. Nowhere near what I saw on their social media post. It was such a disappointment. For $22 per person, I expected more selections and varieties. Not a lot to choose from. You get the basic orange chicken, plain lo-mein, tiny crawfish, meatless dungeons crab. No hibachi station. Sushi weren't fresh. I don't know if they did not expect a big crowd for lunch on Sunday, but we waited forever for them to refill the food. Service was so slow. The food was very yummy, the restaurant, restrooms, and food area were very clean, the people who work here (and I think the owners) were very kind and accommodating. They had good variety for an Asian buffet, which I have partaken in many where we were from in San Diego. We came in with a group of seven, including four young children, and they were so helpful and patient with us. Plus there was something yummy to eat for everyone. Today was not a great day. Started with the sushi which is usually great, but found a hair in one of the rolls and didn't taste as cold and fresh as it usually is. Then tried the cheese stuffed lobster which was the special and it was way too chewy and they were very clean. The steak was ok but by the time I finished my steak my stomach was hitting the warning button and had to leave to go home to the bathroom. It was definitely caused by something I ate here as this was the only thing I had all day as well as my husband that was with me, he ate the same things that I did. $53 for 2 on a weekend is pretty steep. This is new line of Chinese buffet, somewhat a new concept, there are Chinese restaurant groups that create different brand of Chinese buffets. The decorations are new comparing to your traditional Chinese buffets we've known for years, which ain't bad. Service is terrible, 1st of all, trying to put my family into the side room which was super warm in there (added room), had to ask to seat us in the actual main room, they seem to put minorities in that room... we had to ask for refills, waitresses ain't every attentive at all, we sat down, brought out 2 drinks for 4 people, and the waitress completed went off-grid, never came back again, the taller guy waiter was decently attentive. Now the food! Only decent dishes are frog legs, pepper steak, everything else is very bland, no much taste to any. Trying to get some sashimi, the Chinese dudes working there ain't very helpful, downright bitchy when asking for more salmon, refusing to cut more or putting more out, '10 more mins, 10 more mins', they were doing anything in the back other than chatting and talking bad about customers in Chinese (they didn't know I could understand them)... IMO, not worth the price they are charging, KC area needs a higher end Chinese place, I'd rather pay $40 to get better Chinese buffet (Umi brand is way better), this below average place ain't it! read more

I had high hopes for this place but I will NOT be back. To start off the water they give you taste like chlorine. The food is lacking flavor. The grease they use, I don't think it's been changed out because all the fried food taste the same. They have crab legs and mussels but I was way too afraid to eat them because they look like they had sat out for HOURS! They have a sushi bar and are rolling the sushi. They have dessert and they store it in a cabinet off to the side but it was all stale. They are little square cake bites and I didn't even want to waste my calories. The ice cream they have are the ice cream cups that they used to give for school lunches so I passed. I went on a Sunday for lunch, beware there is one price all day for Sunday which is way more expensive then the Monday thought Saturday price. I wasn't happy not will I be back. For a diversity of options alone, it is a great choice for any group. However, the dishes themselves are hit and miss. I really enjoyed the steak and zucchini dish, as well as the black peppered chicken, but I thought both the General Tso's and Sesame Chicken were too sweet and sticky. We were turned off by the seeming freshness of some of the seafood. The salad and dessert bars were also lacking. The salad bar only had iceberg lettuce, and the desserts all appeared to be pre-packaged desserts that you could pick up at any grocery store - standard cupcakes, cookies still in the plastic cartons they came in, etc. The buffet is more expensive on the weekends at $21, and I left feeling like I certainly did not eat $21/worth of food. My wife and I really like buffets, and especially Asian buffets. It's not so much we can eat as much as we want because neither of us eat like we used to, but it's being able to eat little bits of a lot of different tastes. I had business up by the legends and googled "asian buffets" and Golden Apple popped up. It was a Saturday, so they were on weekend pricing but they also had whole crabs baked half lobsters and about a dozen kinds of shrimp dishes. The buffet tables are laid out and the areas are clearly identified by signs, and there are individual legible labels for all the individual dishes. Everything we had was really good. It was fresh it was flavorful, it was hot. The sushi selection included several with fresh fish, not just California rolls that are all veggie. The only negative in the meal was that some of the sushi had been prepared ahead of time and had gotten dry. Their dessert bar was extensive, with fresh and canned fruits, several varieties of Chinese cakes and pastries, and individual serving cups of vanilla, chocolate or strawberry ice cream. So honestly we were a little skeptical coming here but we decided to try and review it. My family and I stopped here on the last night of our great wolf lodge getaway and we were pretty surprised. We have been to bigger buffets I will start there. But for the size of the buffet line there were plenty of variety in the food options. The food was all good, and we loved the fact that all the fruit was fresh! We have a toddler and if you have kids you know they can be super picky 99.9% of the time lol. Our waitress was very nice! She kept our table bussed and ensured we had refills. She also went out of her way to pick up my wife's bag that had fell on the ground. After reading such horrible reviews on Yelp and Google, I wasn't sure I wanted to go. I'm glad we did though. Side note: anyone who says Joy Wok is better isn't someone I would trust. Golden Apple is easily better (and cleaner) than Joy Wok. Back to Golden Apple... The food was surprisingly good. Anyone who described it as small is misguided. The sushi options are impressive and include raw sushi. The hot dishes were hot but not dried out. I noticed a few people comment that the General Tso's was too sweet, and I quickly figured out that it was confusing which was which since it was in front of the sesame chicken. The crab was surprising. Instead of traditional crab legs, it's half of a stone crab from Florida. I mean truly cut in half. It's also served cold which is a bit of a shock. It's not my cup of tea, but you do you. I had two favorites: -- Ribeye (full steak): they have a sautéd-style that was good, but the whole steak was surprisingly delicious. It wasn't chewy at all! -- Crab Rangoon: it was lighter than other crab Rangoon we've tried, and it was great! Oddly enough, the desserts and salad bar were the only things lacking. The ice cream is around the corner if you miss it! The location is great, and there is plenty of space. The staff were excellent, and we never had an issue with drink refills. We only had waters, but they were always full. The bathrooms were also clean. The price shouldn't be a sticker shock since it's located by the door when you walk in. I would say it's expensive, but it's not much more than other buffets in the metro. I know a few people on various platforms commented about that, but it's fair for what you get. All in all, we had a great time and were surprised to see such great variety an hour before close. While it was solid, it's a fair drive for us which means we won't go out of our way to return. read more

We had a great first visit to Golden Apple buffet! Our waiter was prompt and checked in with us often, taking plates and refilling drinks. The restaurant ambiance is the best I've seen in a Chinese buffet and it looks very modern and stylish! The food options were plentiful and satisfying. We were all so impressed with the ice cream options-- lots of ice cream flavors and they all came in individual pre-packaged ice cream cups! Just grab one and go! Unlike other Chinese buffets where you have giant tubs of ice cream and you have to use an ice cream scoop that's been sitting in a tub of water. The food was actually good. Like all buffets, some items are ok and others are great. I wasn't a fan of their crab since they're just the small ones but their sushi rolls were delicious.
