After visiting my Colectivo on a previous visit to Madison, I vowed to hit every location in the city and with my most recent visit and a stop by to this location, goal achieved! I fell in love with the brand via their downtown locations, tasty coffee, creative recipes, chill and local vibes, sustainable and a good cause. All the things! This location is a bit different than their downtown locations, not in service or menu, but it vibes, decor and overall space. This Colectivo is located in an older plaza with a bit of historical significance to the area. With that, Colectivo kept the bones and history of the place, including a cool fireplace inside, and ultimately arranged the restaurant around what was there, not the other way around. As with the other locations, I have an absolute favorite on the menu, an item I am utterly obsessed with...The Iced Cold Brew Oat-Chata. Absolute perfection in an iced coffee cup! Seems fairly simple, but it is complex, layered in flavors and just an enjoyable drink to chill with while hanging out here! As with the other locations, they do offer a bit of food from prepared meals and sandwiches to pastries and treats as well. Service is always stellar at Colectivo and this location is no exception. I've been drinking coffee routinely since somewhere in high school. While a latte wasn't an everyday indulgence, I'd enjoy on every now and again. I'm the kind of person who puts coffee in his coffee, so watered-down, sweet dessert drinks aren't really my thing. Then again, sometimes it's nice. With a two and a half hour drive ahead of me heading back to Chicago. I decided to stop for a coffee and a treat before the journey began. I was immediately drawn to the salted caramel latte, as salted caramel is one of my guilty pleasures. The pastry was what I know as a "morning bun," but Colectivo Coffee calls it something else (apologies, I don't quite remember what). When I tell you this was the smoothest, most velvety and silky latte I've ever had, I don't exaggerate. This was truly something special. The salted caramel was excellence! It was neither over nor underdone, which may have something to do with the fact that the syrups are measured out as opposed to put in haphazardly. Also, while lattes typically aren't heavy on the coffee notes, I wouldn't describe this drink as weak. A dessert drink, yes, but also not short on coffee. As for the baked item, while Tatte (a Boston institution) does have an edge, I still found it thoroughly enjoyable and happily devoured the whole thing. Another area in which Colectivo Coffee excels is their vibe. They have plenty of seating throughout, whether it's in a comfy chair by a fireplace or at a long table facing the windows. Lots of tables and natural light also. Finally, I'd like to call out two things. One, they have both still and carbonated water available on tap. Two, their service is friendly and reasonably quick. Thus, while it's a shame I live 2.5 hours from Madison,, when the weather gets warmer and I start making slightly more regular trips, I can 110% see myself returning. read more

Music can be a bit loud, but not as loud as other places I've been in. Their Matcha tea is good, but not as good as other places I've been to. However, their staff is friendly and know me by name :) (A few of them.) If you want to work on your laptop there, you need to come right when they open, and/or a few hours before they close. I've been here ages ago and was supremely unimpressed, however they have improved since then. Since I am a tea or smoothie drinker the options are definitely more limited and not their specialty and it showed. However, I got a chai in house and it was pretty good. I also always look for a good and filling breakfast option at a coffee shop and was never excited by the party options they had. But there was a new sandwich in the menu that I tried that was pretty good. Egg, pesto, greens and a choux pastry bun was pretty good. It was filling and generously sized but also just a bit dry and could use a bit more sauce. Still, overall it's a marked improvement. Also the bathrooms and sinks at this location are really nice! I like this chain! It has a loft type atmosphere that is super trendy and artsy. The goddesses sandwich was good, but the chips have canola oil, so I recommend replacing with another brand! My toddler also pointed out several spider webs and unclean spots lol- especially the floor, so I recommend a deep clean. We thought the egg and goat cheese muffin was too heavy on the pesto. The turkey sandwich was good, and blt. We loved the seating options- you can sit looking outside on a tall chair, lots of indoor/outdoor spacing! This last time my coffee was ready for 18 minutes before someone could manage to put a pastry in a bag so I could go to work. They weren't busy but just chatting behind the counter about their personal lives. I really enjoy the variety of seating options. There are various tables for groups or individuals. I love the fire place and seating in front to be able to read in the winter time. Some of my favorite coffee roasts come from Colectivo. I've been to every location in Madison, as well as a few in Milwaukee and Chicago, each with their own quirks. The Monroe location is very quaint with open air seating available in the warmer months and a cozy coffee shop in the winter. I typically just get a plain ol' cup of joe but I also really like the Southwest Burrito (come with salsa!) and the Swiss and Smoked Prosciutto croissant (toasted). Specialty drinks are also really good including matcha & chai. Service was quick and friendly. The place was busy, yet still lots of options for seating. It was decorated for the holiday season and had a fireplace in the one section. My latte was hot and tasty! While the sandwich I had was good, the croissant buns made eating the sandwich messy and were far too big for my liking. They're doing curbside and pickup options, as well as the option to order at the counter and take your order to go. I ordered a mocha mexicana with oat milk, which is spicy and warm and delicious. But I'm not loving the ordering and pick up system and really think they could improve these. To order ahead, you have to use the app. Which does give you a 'free' drink, but you have to load money into the app (minimum $10), so you're kind of stuck always having some amount of money tied up in their system. That said, it's fairly straight forward to use. For pickup, I parked in the lot and went in the parking lot side doors. There were a couple of other folks waiting for orders and some drinks being made, and I noted the empty 'cafe pick up' shelves, so stood back to wait for my order. And waited. And waited. It was a bit past my pick up window when I realized that in the Monroe St entry way (outside of the actual cafe) there is a separate app pickup shelf. My drink was here the whole time I was waiting. When I realized this and went to pick it up, the other couple waiting longer than me also saw what I was doing and picked up their order. This seems like it could have been solved with more signage or with an employee checking in with us when they noticed we were waiting (there seemed to be a lot of employees around). I checked out Colectivo last month while I was in the area and killing time before an appointment. Because it was the week before Christmas, I thought I would get the seasonal drink-- a "Peppermint Fluff Latte". Can you say YUM?! It was delicious: not too sweet but festivity in a cup. They have an app where you can order and they do offer to bring the coffee to you in your car. However, since it was my first time there and there were hardly any cars in their lot, I decided to go inside to check it out. Kudos to Colectivo, who has one of the best socially distanced/traffic flow set up. The staff was super friendly and had lots of drinks, milk options, and clearly catered to different kinds of diets. They had lots of neat merchandise to peruse, but I found myself drawn to the main room with the fireplace while I waited for my drink. The wait was only a few minutes, and I was on my way. Both my sandwich and my latte were prepared to go, and staff gave me a difficult time about getting a basket and mug. I had the best latte of my life here today. I ordered a 12 oz salted caramel latte and it is creamy!!! The latte was the perfect amount of Carmelly. Not too sweet. Perfect temperature and had a cute white heart design on top. I've been a barista for 10 months and I haven't made anything this good. Very fresh. The chorizo burrito took a few minutes to make but it's fresh! Has lots of flavor. Tastes homemade to me. Not too spicy either. Came with fresh salsa. I am sitting next to a fireplace in a comfy couch reading a book and journaling. It's the perfect place to come on a Sunday morning or afternoon. I would HIGHLY recommend this place. read more

I felt like this needed an update, only because my original review was really gaga over Colectivo. (The 2015 me was SO naïve...) To be clear, I am no longer a stan for Colectivo. But, as far as chains go, they *are* the best there is in Madison. And, this is the best Colectivo in Madison, in my (reformed) opinion. I really only *love* coming to Colectivo's when it's warm enough for them to have their patios open without sweltering to death; otherwise, it's just a chain coffeehouse that's a smidge better than the other chain coffeehouses. I particularly like the patio at the Monroe location, as it's got the most available seating, and the traffic from Monroe Street adds a nice ambiance, for my preferences. As I'd say for other chain coffee shops, I wouldn't spend my money on food here. There's something not-comforting about the menu being the same between this location and all of the others. But, unlike the other chains, I would actually drink and maybe even enjoy an espresso beverage or (dare I say) a pour-over. But all of this is not unique to this Colectivo. read more

Stopped by Colectivo for light brunch on a lovely Sunday morning. Loved that their Garage door was open allowing the Spring air to flow through. I had the Quiche of the month which was Smoked Gouda, bacon and potato. My slice was a generous size and very delicious. Also enjoyed an Sporteo iced tea....So refreshing. Other options are Green tea or Black tea. My mate had a salmon and cream cheese sandwich. Wished he had asked what all was on it, since he is not a fan of capers. My sister gave me a Colectivo Gift Card for my birthday in September and I have used it on the Capitol Square but have really enjoyed the Monroe Street location. Parking is all timing and luck with the ongoing street construction, but on a crisp Fall day it's a welcome walk from a residential side street a block away. The comfy chairs by the fireplace, the high chairs at a counter looking out on the street and neighborhood pedestrian traffic, the relaxed and studious - nay, library-like - atmosphere feels like home, like Madison home. You feel as if you can find your sunny spot and curl up unbothered for as long as you like. The layout has a feng shui aspect allowing for good flow of customers, plenty of natural light, a feeling there's plenty of room to move and be comfortable. The baristas and staff work quickly to fill orders. Today mine was a hot chocolate and it filled the bill. I texted my sister with thanks and a picture of the yummy drink. Super cute! Visited for a quick coffee in the area and the space was super cute...the line was out of control, though, with people saving spaces and then taking forever to order...but oh well. Coming from Milwaukee, I've seen all their Collectivos in my hometown, but this little Collectivo is quaint and unique, and service was top notch. The bakery and food is the same good quality as other Collectivos, and I enjoyed the Bold drip coffee of the day, while sitting in the bigger room with lots of garage doors, open to let the summer in. Colectivo offers great food and beverages in a very cool environment. It's one of the first places I visited in Madison and I haven't been able to stop! It's in a great location and is right on the bus line. The breakfast sandwiches are amazing. I haven't had pastries... Not sure how I've had self-control because they are gigantic and look amazing. I'm a tea person, and they have a decent selection both to order in store and to purchase in tins. They are not kidding when they say their chai latte is spicy - delicious! I appreciate the availability of soy milk as a milk alternative, and the fact that they provide extra hot water for a tea bag! I've been coming to Colectivo regularly for a writing group, and I love it. It can get very busy but I work well with background sounds, so if you need silence to work, it may not be the best spot for you. There are plenty of outlets to plug in and I have never felt like I've overstayed my welcome. Plus, there are a host of snacks and meals to choose from if my appetite grows while working! :) read more
