A nice coffee shop with a view of the Capitol. It was really empty when I got there when it just opened on Thursday morning and my drink came really quickly. I like how there is a menu of new flavor combinations, so I had to get the black sesame miso cardamon latte. It had a very strong black sesame flavor, so I couldn't really taste the miso. I went to the farmers market and was itching for a latte to sip on while we strolled--thank goodness Wonderstate is right on the corner by the Capitol! On a Saturday morning during the farmers' market, Wonderstate has an additional counter taking customers from outside on the sidewalk serving cold brew and hot coffee. If you go inside, the line is long but worth it in order to get iced lattes and other specialty drinks. When we went, they had a Peach Blossom specialty latte that was delicious, but not too peach-forward. You can still taste that the espresso was very high-quality and balanced. The latte was sweet but not too sweet. The inside of the cafe is light and bright and has plenty of booth-style tables if you need a break from walking around the market. Wonderstate appeared to be hipster coffee shop focused on craft. I just had a black coffee and the vegan cookie, but they were both tasty. A lot of the other reviews state that it is pricey, but I found it pretty reasonable compared to where I live. There's a lot of seating, but it was very busy, so it might be a place best for takeout. Overall cute, but not an intimate cafe feeling if that's what you're looking for. read more

We came 2x and once had to wait quite a while given it was a busy Saturday with a lot happening downtown, and it was so worth the wait! We loved our lattes! Friday, my wife went to the quilt show at the Alliant Energy Center and I had to kill a couple of hours. I decided to go for coffee and ended up here with a lot of college students on laptops. I had a medium maple latte and found a seat by the window. Service was quick and my latte was in a nice big cup with saucer. Definitely a college hangout with a few tourists like myself dropping in. The state capitol building was just across the streeet. Snagged a bench seat with table eventually because the high seat at the window was a little uncomfortable. Sorry I had a breakfast bar on the way up to Madison because the pastries case was appealing and nearly empty. Although I probably would have had the lox and bagel. I was longing for the original Wonderstate Coffee (formerly Kickapoo Coffee) in Viroqua. The quality and service are the same as the Viroqua store (excellent). I was ready to pay for a bottle of water when the person taking my order said they have tap water around the corner if I prefer. So nice! I need to come here again to give it a proper rating. I loved the ambiance and cleanliness, but I only ordered a regular coffee and bagel with cream cheese. That was okay. My husband got a mocha, and that was really good. The service today was slow. I wanted a refill of my coffee, and the charge was $1.50 more for a refill of their regular drip, so I opted to not get a refill; especially since I was just sitting here enjoying the coffee, and it was already pretty pricey. We came here and ordered online given the large line during a weekend event near the capitol building. Wish we went up to the counter to ask about our drinks, when we ordered it said a 30 minute wait for the drinks but when we went up to the counter at 30 min they only started making our drinks then. FYI if you're doing the online order, ask up front if your drinks are being made in the first place - they will preferentially make the in person orders first apparently. Other than this - we got the 12oz chai latte with half sugar and cinnamon with oat milk and a matcha latte.
