The guys who came out were clean, polite and were careful not to ding my freshly painted walls. They also moved some items within the house. I was told ahead of time that moving services and mattresses were an additional charge, no surprises. The guys were a little late showing up, but they worked quickly. The service overall is a little expensive, but hey they did exactly what I needed within 48 hours of my first phone call. The company should have a little more Covid training. One guy had his mask covering his mouth but not nose. The other had a visibly dirty mask from dirty hands touching the outside of it. I had an international flight the following day and was on a tight schedule. The move was not completed as agreed. The quoted storage trip was never made, and even the apartment move itself was left unfinished. Despite three movers being present TO MOVE TWO SMALL ROOMS, MOST OF WHICH HAD ALREADY BEEN PACKED AND MOVED, work was repeatedly interrupted while the crew spent extended periods on the phone with their office. Required packing materials discussed in advance, including lamp boxes and picture boxes, were not brought. My sofa was not properly covered, and the cushions were left exposed and unprotected. Finally, they dumped everything into my storage and broke multiple valuable items during the move. During the move, a 19th-century hand-carved French armoire was damaged. Carved elements were broken, and portions are missing. The piece was transported in its damaged condition. Three antique European handmade lamps were also damaged; shades were crushed, harps detached, and bulb fixtures bent. A valuable picture frame was also broken. A DESK LAMP WAS LEFT ON THE FLOOR, BROKEN. OTHER ITEMS WERE LEFT BEHIND. WITH A HUGE MESS, HOLES IN THE WALLS, ETC. After the move, a company representative named Milla informed me that payment would not be required because the move was not completed. Despite that representation, I was later contacted regarding payment by a man who did not identify himself by name. I have attempted to file a formal damage claim, but have not received returned calls regarding the claim process. I have now submitted a formal written demand and am pursuing a professional appraisal and appropriate remedies. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this location. They were so unprofessional and slippery, despite a contract, that I would avoid this moving company at all costs. I spoke with four or five people during the move, and none had the information from the estimator who wasted an hour of my time. The teamshowed up 30 minutes late and lied about where they were. To top it off, Milla told me I did not owe anything a shey did not complete the move and a week later some guy -his role unclear - called to say I owed them the full quote, even though the cost of completing the move and the loss of things left behind and destroyed by careless handling caused in excess of 6-7000 in damages at minimum. Do not trust for moving. I've seen a lot of junk hauling and donation reviews on here, so I wanted to relay our experience with using them to move. This was our first and will be the last time we use CHHJ. First, we recieved a low-ball estimate that was $700 below the actual cost of the move, which was about a 30 percent increase over what we were initially quoted. Second, they upon arrival immediately had me essentially release them from any damage liability. Not responsible for wall damage where there's not 8 inches of clearance on each side? How in the world do you move something down a hallway or stairwell? An honest company would put these liability waivers up front, and not give you the hard sell when the truck is literally outside your door. Third, they DO NOT cover wall damage, so don't even try. When trying to move a couch into our basement, they tore through the spackle and bent the metal corner guard piece on a wall by the basement door. They then proceeded to scuff and dent the drywall the entire way down the basement steps, managing to also hit the ceiling and trim. Add to this smaller cosmetic damage to some of our furniture, and you get the picture. And last but not least, we were promised a discount for moving during the week. This was not applied, and I needed to remind them of it. Safe to say no one would have caught that error without me reaching out. Moving with kids is stressful enough; we didn't need more stress on top of it. We moved most of our stuff out of a two bedroom townhouse we were renovating put into storage...took 2 1/2 hours. Second time...had 1/3 of the amount, because we were only take the basics were living on from doors down...took 4 1/2 hours to same location. Now for them to transporting your TVs you HAVE to use their U-Haul boxes that we were told on the phone were $15 and $30 then on site became $30 and $45...gee surprise...thanks Blake. And THEY pack the TVs THEMSELVES!!! So my husband so use them to move to our final destination because THEY packed the stuff up. I order the truck...I tel. Then what I want a whole townhouse plus 130 totes...they SHOULD have told me I needed 2 trucks but they didn't. They arrive with a truck they won't fit everything so I'm told they can only take what's EXACTLY on my list...so they load up...guess what ...they didn't even fit my list because they didn't plan like they should have. I actually would have paid for 2 trucks had I been given the option, but I wasn't. So I finally get to unpacking the TVs...our 86 inch TV had ZERO foam on one side and it had been sitting on that side bouncing in the truck and you can see where they were holding it carrying it. We paid $45 for something they didn't even use!!! I then recorded opening the next TV...guess what...ZERO foam in it!!! Very good experience. THe three guys sent to do my cross-town move were polite, efficient, and on-time. The team leader sat me down to do the paperwork while the other two started loading the truck. The move was completed in 3 hours, which includes a few delays not the fault of the movers but the crazy geometry of a 120-year-old house and large furniture. They knew just how to angle things, etc. though. Nothing was damaged. I think one dresser had a tiny scratch that can be covered with Old English, and I can't even say for sure that it wasn't there before and I just never noticed, that's how small it is. read more

The truck was way too small and after going back and forth 2 time they just stopped working and said they would return the next morning a 8:00 AM, they finally showed up just before two. Fantastic customer service. Received call back first thing next morning after putting in online booking order. Was able to book service that very afternoon! The two movers called 20 minutes prior to arrival and were professional, courteous and very fast. Had to move a very heavy elliptical trainer and they did so with ease and with no damage to walls or carpet. Although price seemed a bit high, I was told upfront what the charge would be so no surprises. I will definitely book service again. How would I not when everything worked out so perfectly! We did not have a good experience using these movers. They did not send a sufficient size crew to help move our items and put a large hole on our kitchen wall (see picture). We put in a claim with the company and they said we would be contacted by the operations manager within 3-5 days. Pros: Arrived on time, friendly, quick, convenient Cons: 1) I had 11 medium boxes, a pair of cross country skis, a car ski rack, and a large tupperware. The young man picking up the lot said "I can do this for $350"... This load was well within the 1/8 of a truck load, as quoted on the website for $125. He was quoting me for over 1/2 a truck. I was able to negotiate down to $250, but this was still double the advertised price on their website. Please make sure your service people at least roughly follow pricing on your website. 2) I spoke with a woman on the phone and asked specific questions on what would happen to my items. I didn't want everything to go straight to the dump. I was told the boxes would be opened, sorted into "donate", "recycle", and throw away. Perfect! However, when I asked the young man who picked up the items what they would do, he said he could donate the skiis and roof rack, but all the boxes would go to the dump because they "didn't have time to sort through them". This was not what I was told. I had well over $2000 of useful items in those boxes that I was hoping to avoid going to the dump. Unfortunate. Please make sure your costumer service people on the phone, and the people doing the work have the same information and abide by the same policies. It was not enough that College Hunks low-balled my estimate and asked for more money mid-move, but I was also the victim of theft of my property. Upon discovering a box was missing after my move, I immediately called Lisa Perkins, the owner, and her response was that the truck had been "checked" and that it was "empty". Apart from that she has been non-responsive despite numerous calls. Bottom line, either she or her employees, or both, are dishonest. Know that they will low-ball you on your estimated cost and if something goes wrong with your move they will give you the run-around. And given the opportunity they will steal from you. Moving is always stressful. My stress was compounded by the loss of family heirlooms with great personal value. While I have filed a police report, I know that the chances of recovery are scant. I hope this review may spare you similar loss and pain by advising you to avoid this mover. read more

This move has been such a nightmare! When we scheduled the move, we were quoted for 2 guys at 5 hours (the high end). The morning of our move, 4 guys showed up and this was never discussed with us. When the operations manager came, he told me that he would only charge us for 3 and promised it would take half the time. It ended up taking over 6 hours which meant we spent almost $600 more then we expected. During the move, multiple pieces of furniture was damaged and the busted a tv. Since filling a claim, the did send someone to repair the wood furniture but they think a check for $39 will cover the tv! It has been very difficult to get any straight answers about any kind of refund and when talking to Dana, the franchise owner, she just says there's nothing she can do about it. They called me within a few minutes to confirm the appointment and discuss the details, even assuring my concerns with precautions regarding the ongoing pandemic. Airy business. Pricing fully disclosed at appointment time. Customer pays according to the volume your load takes up in an empty truck, I.e, a quarter, a half, etc. You generally describe what you have, and they give you a guesstimate on the phone. They said they would call 30 minutes before the appointment, and they did. Kevin and Sam came right on time. Not a pickup truck and a trailer, but a truck not much smaller than a regular trash truck. Two very pleasant guys (from Damascus and Urbana) wearing the company golf shirt. They looked at the load and confirmed the pricing, and got to work. We had a sofa, a couple of large easy chairs, bookshelf, a few general items and king size mattress and box spring. They wore booties on carpeted areas and were very mindful of walls and doors. The whole thing took under 30 minutes. This was a pre-moving clean out. We'll need another load at moving time, and they also offer the guys on an hourly rate to help you load PODs on moving day. I can not recommend. I chose this company because they don't require a separate visit to estimate a cost. Now I wish I'd selected one of the others even if it cost me more time before the pick-up. I have a house to empty and I let them know it. When the company called to confirm the appointment I made sure to tell them I have an Estate Clean Out and to ask how they manage getting more people on a job. I was told the initial team can call in more resources. Appointment day, Friday June 7, arrives. The team called me and arranged to arrive earlier than scheduled. When they got there we walked thru the house and discussed what needed to be moved out. I was quoted 8 - 10 trucks to do so. I thought 4 trucks would be more like it, but I agreed to have them get started. They called 'the boss' asking for other resources to be sent to this job. Then they started loading the remaining truck space. (It was already 3/8 full from their earlier job.) When the big things were loaded, they grabbed trash bags and started loading them to fill all available space. I helped out because I could see they wouldn't get done otherwise. They said they were going to the dump, then they would do another short job, and return. Also they led me to believe more help would be forthcoming later that afternoon. When they came back 1.5 hours later, they had a few items on the truck and went back to loading out the big things. In the time they were gone I had continued to load trash bags so they'd have them ready to fill in space. This is something you pay them for, but.. as I said above, I knew they'd never get the 4 truck loads out if I didn't help. They filled up the truck and again left for the dump. Since they're using the Howard county dump, it's a 40 minute drive from my house in Laurel MD. The Anne Arundel landfill is only 20 minutes away, but this company is based in Howard county. When they got back at 2:45 pm, they told me this would be the final load since the dump closes at 3:30 and they wouldn't be able to load and dump in time. They also told me that no other teams would be coming so I'd have to schedule another day. They talked with 'the boss' and got a pick-up scheduled for the next day, Saturday between 12 and 2. That day gets a 1 star rating and will appear as a separate review. Kareem and Nathan did their best but they simply didn't have the resources needed to do the job. They were able to get the upper doors off a computer armoire but they couldn't unscrew the hinges on the lower compartments. They zip tied the doors shut and got the unit out of the basement with my help. Nathan just wasn't strong enough to carry his part of the load. I had to backstop him and put my hands on the armoire when they were going upstairs or he would have fallen back down. Summary: I used a day of vacation to spend 6 hours and 30 minutes helping guys I paid over $2100 to move 2 5/8 trucks worth of junk from my house and since we couldn't get the job done, I'd have to give up my Saturday to finish the job. read more

It was going to take 2 days for them to come get it. And my new sofa is scheduled to arrive first thing in the morning. Due to a new job, I was still transitioning between New York and Maryland. So, I came down on the last weekend available to clear out my old apartment. I planned on donating all my furniture, but at the last minute, the "SA" said they wouldn't take it all. Now I'm worried, because I was relying upon them. While I could take some item to the dump myself, I didn't have a big enough vehicle to move the furniture myself. But I thought maybe there was a chance that a moving company could handle it for me. To my surprise, the WEBSITE for College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving said they could handle "same day" moves AND their WEBSITE showed an available time between 10:30am-12:30pm today. Perfect. Boy was I wrong! Despite getting an email confirmation, 12:30pm came and went. At 12:40pm I called the toll-free number myself and was told that the local company (based in Frederick) would get back to me. She said, just a few minutes later, assured me that she could handle my disposal, and said she would call me back in 20 minutes. Nope. That was a lie. An hour passed, and I called her back myself. After asking whether one of her movers called me (apparently forgetting that she said she'd call me herself), "Dawn" goes into this explanation about the challenges of a move today. In the end, I just ask, "can you move me today or not". Dawn then has the nerve to say, "no, and it's unreasonable to think you can move today- " Click. I hung up. Now, I don't hang up on people. It's rude, but I was ticked off. The College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving website said you do same day moves. Not me. The College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving website showed a Saturday time that was available. Not me. College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving sent me an email confirming my appointment. Not me. The College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving owner ("Dawn") in Frederick said she could handle me today. Not me. Then the College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving ("Dawn") went back on her word, and then attempted to blame ME for be unreasonable. That's just bad service. I always thought same day service would a tough ask, but The College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving created the reasonable expectation through its website, its email, and its Frederick owner. Don't you dare try to blame the customer when you can fulfill the obligation you agreed to. Better to just say sorry, we made a mistake. Never will I use this company again. The team of movers that came out took 14 hours to move us 45 miles and ended up destroying our televisions and my desk. DISAPPOINTED!! My family and I decided to use College Hunks Hauling Junk because of all the positive reviews and the fair quote we received. Another reason I was willing to use this company was because the owner seemed nice and showed interest in wanting to help us. However, I was proved wrong by the franchise owner and more importantly the College Hunk company. I am writing this review because I want the future clients to have all the information needed when deciding on a moving company. It is a lot of money so I feel as if it is fair if the future client has all the details. There are a few reasons you should take into consideration for not using College Hunks as a moving company: 1. The franchise owners has the right to not reimburse you if they feel like it is not worth their time. For example, when our house had a few damages from the move the owner decided to try to fix it themselves. The owner was unable to do fix the problem so they left it up to us to find someone to fix the damages. When the bill was sent to that individual, that person decided to only pay a fraction because thought it was not fair to pay the total bill due. We ended up paying for the damages ourselves (an extra cost that was not expected). 2. The company provides false hope by giving you lip service. They pretend to care on the phone but they ultimately tell you that it is up to the franchise owner to resolve issues with their clients. What is corporate for, if not to help mediate issues between the owners and customers. 3. Emails are never addressed by corporate and the local franchise owner. Everyone tells you to write a formal email so they have it on file but what does that mean when no one responds to your concerns. It has been a month now and no one is showing initiative to help resolve the matter. 4. The franchise owner is accusatory, especially when we have proof that the bill is legitimate. It is also very disappointing when corporate knows of this and they are not willing to help mediate the problem. 5. The managers at the call center are quick to end the call by telling you that all the power lies in the hands of the franchise owner and they cannot do anything about it. They also lie and say that they will send the information over to the legal department and legal should get in contact, I have let to hear from anyone. Overall, I hope any new clients will reconsider using this company. Please don't be fooled by the positive reviews you read. It is all good if the move goes seamlessly, but what if there is an issue? Why take a risk when neither the owner or corporate will do anything about it? The risk is that everything is up to the franchise owner when it comes to settlements. If you meet a honest owner with integrity then thats wonderful, but how will you know when they all say things you like to hear in or to get your business? Weigh all the pros and cons when deciding on using this company. More importantly than money I am disappointed with how the company has handled the situation. For my family and I will not be using College Hunks and I will definitely not recommend them to any of my close family and friends. Two very personable guys showed up almost exactly to the minute they said they would arrive, and right away got down to work to take away an old, heavy oven and move a "new" (a newer, used one) in its place. They made short order of things, and were out the door in a flash! I've used them for years off and on, and their customer service and the "HUNKS" have only gotten better. After our move to Maryland we realized we had quite a bit more junk than we originally expected after Atlas Moving unpacked and left. Our three car garage was quickly filling up and we needed to get rid of the junk. We had seen the advertisements in Nashville and decided to look them up to see if they were here locally. We found them in Frederick and scheduled there pick-up. They were efficient, thorough and friendly. After their initial pick-up we unpacked our last box and got rid of a few more household things that we no longer needed or did not fair well in the move; like the grill. Scheduled our second pick-up and they came out and once again took care of getting rid of all the things we no longer needed or had room for. Utterly the worst. RUN...don't use these folks. There was no excuse for the owner to send injured, untrained guys, no excuse for her rudeness, condescending attitude and slow half way, follow through. Her continued stance that they had provided fine service and a discount price is laughable. Owner is rude and unhelpful. National customer service can do nothing but send customer concerns back to the franchise owner. The movers that work for them are the nicest guys ever but were not physically fit, were injured to boot and had not been trained well. I carried 60 boxes myself to the truck and with the help of a friend, carried most of the smaller pieces of furniture because one "Hunk" had stitches in his hand and the other "Hunk" was clearly in poor physical condition, complained of severe ankle pain and could barely carry items. (Please note that this was only 1120 square feet of an apartment and a 12 x 12 garage all of which had been well packed and organized. The location had been inspected and the move estimated by one of their people and they saw the 17 steps to the apartment and knew I had around 60 boxes and a few smalls in a storage garage steps away from the apartment). It went so poorly on the front end of the move at the apartment that after they finally got the items to my new house, I had them leave most of them in the living and dining room and I hired another mover to distribute the items to the right floors the next weekend. The college "Hunks" were so tired that they damaged several pieces of furniture and I was afraid would injure themselves more or someone else nearby (they almost dropped a heavy antique empire server on me that they tipped off the back of the truck). This move not only cost me $1450.00 plus substantial tip (I felt bad because the guys had been made to work injured), I also had to pay another mover $350.00 to finish the move, I have several hundred dollars of damage to repair to furniture and damage to a laquer item that can never be fixed. My friend saw them literally drag it on its edge down of the truck. There is damage in both locations from them dropping items or knocking into walls. It also cost my peace of mind because I decided to hire a full service mover rather than do a self move and I ended up doing a self move anyway but worse. It is a busy time for me in my own work and instead of making my life easier College Hunks of Mt. Airy, MD made my life harder. Both the franchise owner and her crew manager acted put upon when asked to make things right. My dealings with both the Franchisee and her manager were frustrating. They clearly knew that I had been wronged but didn't want to admit it and really didn't want to make good. This move was worth less than zero dollars and I am going to spread the word. Beware of 5 star ratings. There is a little secret to the lack of negative comments. Their lovely crew leader Kevin let me know that if I provided good ratings it would mean extra college money for them. It is hard leaving negative comments when the workers are so sweet spirited but this was the worst move ever and it lays at the feet of the franchise owner who sent injured individuals, who had not been given appropriate training, information about the move, nor provided with the correct leadership and supervision to complete the job. read more

I called CHHJ on a Friday morning after the service that I first scheduled unexpectedly said, "oh, we can't do that." They were able to accommodate a pick-up with a window of 12PM-2PM. The crew from CHH arrived early, after calling to ask if that would be OK. When they arrived, Nathaniel and Brad quickly provided a reasonable estimate. They went to work removing my junk. They were fast, pleasant, respectful, and thorough. read more

I used this company twice to clean out my attic...extremely happy with employess and service . However , I scheduled a mpve on june 20 (2019)...had lots of attempts to contact them (locally) abd left messages three days in row..no response. I had to call corporate to finally get a call back from local franchise owner. She finally delivered wardrobe boxes and bars and suggested a new estimate on move. Finally I said ye and she then asked if I would rather keep the orijinal estimate...I said yes. She mentione she was short staffed..one quit and the other on vacation on the 15th...my move was scheduled for the 16th. Ownwr left..and called twenty minutes later and cancelled the move. I signed settlement papers today on sale of my house and move was scheduled in six days....estimate wI as made june 20th on site after my attic was cleaned out . I am appalled and left high and dry.
