We used College Hunks for junk hauling, not moving, and they were very good for that. The guys were on time, polite, professional, and fast. They hauled out two truckloads of our stuff in a few hours, and got us the donation receipt within about a week. I particularly appreciate that this company has a relationship with Ecumenical Hunger Program and donates there; and they seem to have ties to others in the community who need items as well. The 4 rather than 5 stars reflects the inaccuracy of their estimate. Their rep provided the estimate after visiting our house in person to see what we were asking them to haul, but when the day came the amount of truck space needed - and the cost - were nearly double the estimate. I knew there was likely going to be a problem when they guys pulled up and asked, "what can we do for you today?" as opposed to having the estimate in hand and knowing exactly what we'd requested and they'd estimated. read more

I am extremely disappointed with the service I received during my move. My scheduled arrival window was between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM. When no one arrived and I received no communication, I called the company around 12:00 PM for an update. After waiting for a callback, I finally heard from someone around 12:20 PM, who informed me the crew was running behind and would now arrive between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM. At 2:30 PM, I received another call saying they would arrive within half an hour. Then, at 3:00 PM, I was called again and asked if I could simply reschedule my move for the following day. That was not an option, and I declined. A replacement truck finally arrived around 3:45 PM. To make matters worse, I was originally quoted and scheduled for three movers, but only two arrived. My original estimate was 3.5 hours, and that estimate was based on moving more furniture than I ultimately needed moved. Despite having less to move, I was immediately told the job would take longer. The movers were also completely unprepared to move my refrigerator, washer, and dryer. They struggled throughout the move, damaged one of our doors, and appeared disorganized. One mover seemed very inexperienced, while the other appeared frustrated and disengaged the entire time. As I am writing this, it is 6:12 PM, and we are still not completely moved out of our old place. Because of your company's delays, poor planning, and lack of preparation, I am now being forced to pay for additional moving time that I should not be responsible for. To make matters even worse, when I attempted to contact the company using the phone number I was provided, no one answered and the voicemail box was full. I also sent a text message that was marked as read, but no one responded. This entire experience has been incredibly frustrating and stressful. I booked this move expecting a professional, organized service. Instead, I experienced hours of delays, poor communication, inadequate staffing, damaged property, and a level of unpreparedness that has directly increased both my moving costs and my stress. I expect to be contacted promptly regarding this matter and believe I should be fairly compensated for the unnecessary delays, the additional charges caused by your company's failures, and the damage to my property. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with this company. An employee who identified himself as the manager came to my home and conducted a walkthrough of the entire property to prepare an estimate, but no estimate was ever provided. I called multiple times and spoke with several representatives, all of whom stated that no estimate existed. At one point, a staff member claimed to have located it, but I was then transferred to customer service, where I was again told there was no estimate on file. When I provided the name of the individual who had come to my home and requested to speak with him directly, I was told that I could not speak with him. This is my second experience with HUNKS. Last year they removed a very heavy, long leather sofa, with no direct access to street, had to carry through several back yards in Condominium area. Arrived on time, took a very short time to complete task, very reasonable rate. One of the Staff, Anthony, was especially helpful, polite, explained fee and was very helpful. Today, Anthony and William arrived for a smaller project. Incredibly helpful. Arrived on time, completed task quickly and efficiently, and again I found the fee very reasonable. I especially like HUNKS policy of donating appropriate items to charity. Long over due review. We used them over a year ago. They will take their sweet time and milk your money. Very frustrating while watching them take their sweet ass time with everything. They will take 30 mins to "wrap" a chair. If you got expensive Italian furniture maybe it's worth the "meticulous" wrapping job. Once they got to our new place, all 4 guys couldn't figure out how to get a headboard and frame into a bedroom. My husband and I watched them fumble about trying to figure out only for them give up, my husband ended up picking the whole thing up by himself and getting it in the bedroom within a minute. We literally paid hundreds of dollars for people being "unsmart". Will NEVER use them again! College hunks is also very misleading. None of them are hunks nor in college. read more

Not a great experience. We received a detailed quote after they visited our home, but it was not honored... not even close. They quoted us for an 8.5 hour move. It took them 11 hours and they sprung the trap, and nailed us with a nearly $2,000 up charge. It's worse than that, they did not move our items with care. As a matter of fact, they dropped our TV right in front of us and just shrugged it off and said that we'd need to call that in. We provided five dozen moving blankets for them, didn't matter, they seemed to catch every piece of furniture and scrape every wall and door they could find. But wait, there is more! They didn't load everything on the truck, and we had to make the six hour round trip drive to load up the items left behind. There was room on the truck, it seems they just got tired of loading. Very high hidden fees that are not disclosed until they are standing in your face and ready to move. The value is poor. $600 to move and cabinet, credenza, a pasted wood headboard and little more than two 6ft hand rails. The estimate was $300. My move from Thousand Oaks to Oxnard went fairly smooth overall and College Hunks provided a reliable moving service. I chose them partly because they advertised furniture donation services with the ability to provide tax-deductible information for anything donated, but it's been over six months, and I've yet to receive any follow-up on that. If you're looking for a reasonably priced and efficient move, they might be a good option, but I'd recommend clarifying the donation process upfront if that's important to you. They no showed me after taking our deposit, they texted saying they would be here and now they are not and no one is answering their phone. We had a window of 1- 3 as we had to give our keys back by 5pm we will now be charged an overstay fee from our apartment for 600.00. They don't answer their phones. Update they finally came an hour after our scheduled time, the kids that came were great. However management is awful still no call, they didn't give these kids my phone number nor the next address. We still did not get out of our apartment time, I called the operations manager and emailed many times still no reply or response. The two young men that showed up were very nice, explained their service and cost. That being said, be sure to understand their cost structure from the booking to the guys in front of you. $89 estimate over the phone for a refrigerator size item. We had a desk. It was heavy but still no more than a fridge and a bit smaller too. We were quoted $209 in person. We discussed it with the guys and settled on $109. If you aren't ok with the estimate at arrival you can say no thank you and that is perfectly fine. We were closing escrow that day and this was the last item! We were scammed! I hired this company to move a one-bedroom apartment to a new house less than three miles away, and I was shocked to be charged a staggering $850. Yes, you read that right--$850 for a short-distance move. The entire experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and I regret choosing their services. While they did move my belongings efficiently, they lack the experience of more established moving companies in the area. They justify their outrageous rate of $155 per hour for two movers under the guise of supporting charities, but in reality, the movers weren't "hunks" as advertised--just college students looking to make extra cash on the weekends. And i call them inefficient because of how painfully slow they were. For fairness, the movers did have to carry everything down from my first-floor apartment via a few steps to their truck, which was parked a short distance away--less than 100 feet. At my new place, which was on the third floor, they had the convenience of an elevator, and my unit was located less than 20 feet from it. Most moving companies in the area charge $109-$119 per hour with a three-hour minimum, but I opted for this company because of their one-hour minimum policy. Based on my prior experiences, other movers had completed similar jobs in under three hours, so I assumed I could save some money by avoiding the three-hour minimum. However, that plan backfired completely--I was charged far more than expected, and it ended up being anything but cost-effective. All my belongings were already packed, so their only job was to load everything onto the truck, transport it, and unload it at my new place. The projected time for the move was 2.75 hours, yet it ended up taking 4.75 hours--a full two hours more than expected. There has to be something seriously wrong for the time to increase so drastically, especially given the simple nature of the move. I carefully tracked the time from the moment they arrived until they finished, and I was overcharged by at least 30 minutes. To make matters worse, they even charge for paperwork, which can tack on an extra 15 to 30 minutes--an unnecessary $75 expense. I later objected to the charge with the general manager and expressed my displeasure at being overcharged. While he attempted to justify the price, his explanation was not convincing to me. I know they have a ton of five-star ratings, but in my opinion, there is absolutely no way an $850 price tag is justifiable for this type of move. Be wary of these hidden charges and inflated pricing. I wouldn't recommend them, especially given the lack of transparency and the high cost for such a simple move. read more

When an employee came to my apartment to look at the stuff I was taking, I asked if they could take a few things to the dumb. He said, "No problem. What do you need to take there?" I told him, and he put it in the system. I scheduled the move for 12-4pm. The movers were an hour late. We double checked to make sure they will take the things to the dumb. They only took my things to the new home and left the stuff to take to the dumb in the apartment. I called multiple times. No one answered the phone. This is unprofessional. I moved May 5, 2025. Today is September 19, 2025. I filed a damage claim in May. Still no response. Damaged furniture, broken furniture and dingys on door facing. Bid was 1700 and charged 2000. Had to pay for them st stand around and look at their phones. Also reeked of pot. I don't care what people do on their time, but on my time I do care. I booked a 2 hour service for furniture assembly. I was very clear when ai booked that nothing needed to be moved out of the house. I had 4 pieces of furniture that needed to be taken up to their respective rooms and put together. 3 people arrived around 11:45 am. They were under the impression that I had booked junk removal. That should have been a red flag, I guess. I had a coffee table, a small dresser, a daybed with few pieces to assemble, and a vanity. I expected the vanity to take some time because there are a lot of pieces. I did not expect the coffee table to take nearly 3 hours. They started around 12. At around 1, they went on a lunch break. I went upstairs to take a look at their progress and saw that the daybed looked complete. It wasn't where I'd asked for it to be placed so I moved it. Nothing else had been touched, but it had only been about an hour. When they came back, one guy worked on finishing the coffee table, and the other 2 went upstairs. After aboit another hour, I went upstairs to get my phone charger. All of the pieces of the vanity were laid out on the floor. The dresser was still in the box. I couldn't understand what had been happening for the last hour because the daybed was done before lunch. Time went on and on, and I finally said forget the dresser. They left around 5:15 pm. It took three people 5 hours. I was in a meeting so I paid and they left. $574 when I had anticipated $120. When I finished my meeting, I went upstairs to check out the vanity and this picture is what I found. I called customer service, who had the franchise call me. Damian was very nice and apologetic and offered to have someone come back and finish the job. I declined. I already lost this entire day to this service. First of all I have to start by saying we knew nothing about. We needed to get rid of a mattress, mechanical box spring and encased leather queen bed frame. We were desperately looking for haulers and just so happen to be driving by one of their signs on a street corner. I took a picture and checked reviews and was in awe that they had nothing but 5 stars and a lot of amazing reviews! A young man answered the phone immediately when we called. He took all of our information and called us back in an hour. We were on a very tight schedule as the new bed was coming in 2 days so we needed everything to be picked up immediately. After giving us a very reasonable estimate, they scheduled us for noon the next day. Two very nice young men, (Enrique and Sean), showed up at noon and I can't tell you how respectful they were! Kind, courteous and very conscientious. They took extreme care in our home and were very diligent and careful while removing these very large/heavy items from the second floor to the downstairs. They were also willing to deliver, (again at a very reasonable cost), the old mattress to another resident 10 minutes away. Thank you guys so much for all you did.
