STAY AWAY. FIND ANY OTHER VENDOR. Used this Company for a microfridge in fall of 2017 and delivery went as expected. In the spring of 2018 I arranged to have them store some furniture over the summer to be returned to my son's dorm room in the fall. That is when things went downhill. Items were to be picked up the day after he moved out. That did not happen. We got a call from the residence director several days later asking about the furniture (and fridge) still in his room. Several calls that day finally resulted in items being picked up for storage (for which we had paid.) and the refrigerator being picked up (as the rental was over). Approximately 8 weeks later (mid-July), I realized that I had not gotten my deposit back on the micro-fridge. I called the office and was told "we haven't gotten to Hofstra yet" They processed the refund of the deposit. Once my son determined the actual date he planned to return to school, we attempted to contact the Company to arrange for the return of the stored items. That took about 48 hours, 2 voice messages and an email to get to a human. I was told that they were working on arrangements to get access to have the items on site for when he returned but if that had not occurred, they would be "on call" making deliveries all weekend that he was moving back and that they are "around the corner" and could deliver when we let them know we were there. Items were not present when we arrived. Called at 10:45am. Was told that truck was being loaded, we would be the first drop off and that would be at about 1pm. Not what I expected from the earlier call - "we are around the corner and can bring your items when you arrive." Called at 1:30 and was told he would call the driver to get the status and call me back. Got no call back. At 2:15, I called again and left a message. At 2:30, I texted Kevin looking for a status update. He finally responded to that text at 2:45, as his driver arrived and items were being unloaded. Drivers left and we unwrapped two sections of sectional that had been covered in saran-type wrap. Bottom of one section was returned torn with the stuffing falling from the rips. Absolutely not the condition when items were picked up. I have no energy to attempt to make a claim as I do not think that they particularly care whether their customers are satisfied. Hofstra no longer authorizes this vendor for micro-fridge rentals. They should not allow them on campus and all students at campuses' they serve should be warned away!!! read more

Ok, so this is a company that my university publicizes and tells the students to rent their units from because they're conveniently close and have been working with them for several years (to my knowledge). Placing the order for the rental was relatively easy; the site was a little difficult and it kept having issues and technical difficulties, but I was able to select the fridge and freezer unit and my campus was on the list among a dozen or so others. The unit was delivered the day before move-in, as was said, but the plug was completely broken! The cord was frayed and the plastic housing was scratched, and the plug itself was mangled and bent! Immediately after seeing this, we called the company and they said that they would exchange it that day because they were dropping off units all over campus. They gave me and my two roommates a 4-5pm drop off window. 5pm rolled around and the unit hadn't been exchanged. I immediately called but the office was closed for the day. I called the next day and was on hold for ten minutes. I hung up and called back, and was put back on hold! One of my roommates called and she was able to get through, and they scheduled to exchange the unit the next day (Saturday) between 9-11am. Again, they never showed up. And we weren't able to call the company because they're closed on weekends... Had to wait until Monday to call again, and set up an exchange. The unit was supposed to be exchanged today between 11a-5pm. No surprise, it was never exchanged. We decided that we had done enough waiting (we need a fridge! and we don't have time to wait anymore) and wanted to call and schedule a pick up and refund. We got through no problem and the refund was processed almost immediately. The unit is to be picked up tomorrow and taken away (good riddance!), I wonder if it will actually be removed... What is unfortunate is that I have several classmates and have heard from other students renting from the company is that many have not encountered this issue. Most people had their units dropped off without an issue and everything is working fine. Only a few have reported problems and are having similar issues in getting the problems resolved. Overall, it hasn't been a great start, and has turned me away from renting (or storing) from here again. Instead, we're going to put the money into buying a fridge / freezer unit (which is actually cheaper...) and I encourage others to do the same. read more

Door to Dorm was so supportive when my son had to leave campus early because his father was ill. Everything was stored correctly (we had three different types of storage) and returned to us on schedule. They even brought everything up the ramp and to his dorm -- something much appreciated by this older mom. I won't kid you, they were busy at return time, but they were good to their word and were there, most importantly, when we needed help. read more

update:This SHeeet is smelly and does not cool. Called the office and get the robot voice. Deserve a negative star. It was so hard to get a hold of the representitive to add my dorm on their list. It took them a week to deliver. By the time i received it it was a month after the semester started but it was still the same price. The delivery guy, called and said he could not find me. I realized the address was not exactly right. I knew it was little far from me so i asked him to fingure out himself. However he insisted " i NEED YOU to come and find me." I compromised and went back to find him, which turned out to be the biggest mistake. He accused me of not telling him my dorm was across the street and he his car was parked eight blocks away. Dude, you were the one who didnt want to figure out your way and drove to the building, instead you wanted me to walk you there. On my way back i kept thinking he would must complain by saying "do me a favor, next timeXxx" when that happen i would like to tell him, there is no next time. Guess what, he said the exact line. Abysmal service! You may lose your belongings forever! The company does NEVER respond to emails or phone calls. My relationship with them started well, but, because they do not answer their phones or e-mails, it took me months to solve an over-billing situation, that I now think only got solved because it involved money (I guess they do return calls what it's about collecting fees). They were supposed to keep my daughter's boxes during the summer and fall semester. The semester has already started and there is no way to have the company return any of my calls or emails to schedule a delivery of the boxes. Having a delayed delivery would have been annoying, but we could have made it work. Not having any response at all, not knowing when (and even if) the boxes will ever be delivered forced us to buy most of the items that we had in storage (again). As a result, not only I paid the company for storing boxes that I may never get back (is that considered robbery?), but I bought the same items twice. Like most reasonable people, I can understand bad management, miscommunication, blips and other problems that may arise with this type of service. I do not understand the total lack of communication and response to their clients questions and requests. read more

I've tried to be patient and understanding with this company, but at this point, I'm just completely frustrated. They lost some of my daughter's items, including a box with all of her shoes (including sneakers and spikes she needed for track). I was told on November 13, 2020 that a check for $250 went out in the mail the day before to help cover the cost of the lost items. I never received a check. I called on December 16th and December 22nd and no one has returned my calls. It's now January 26, 2021, and no call back and no check. And the missing items have never been found. read more

They fumbled two delivery dates for my daughter, did not even call her to confirm, did not show up at all. But ... they certainly took my $$$$. The situation is unresolved and my blood pressure has spiked several times thanks to them. Awesome Company! They are very helpful. They will call at some point between the two hour pick up period. I left my dorm keys in my box and Kevin and one of the other guys who originally picked up my box were very kind and accommodating. They were able to contact me and locate my keys! When I say they ruined every item i own..they went out of their way to ruin EVERY item I own. I payed about $600 for boxes and storage, come time for me to have them shipped they decide to unpack all of my things and repack them themselves from 2 large boxes down to 6 boxes, charge me almost $700 for that which I did not ask for, was not explained why that happened even when I called many times to ask, even before to try and prevent that, and they seriously RUINED EVERYTHING I own. Like I don't have shoes because they're ruined. Mugs and glasses just thrown in anywhere. Books completely ripped apart. DVDs just thrown in. Lamps thrown in. Their job is to pack and move and I'm not sure a fish couldn't have packed and moved my things better, and had more consideration for time. They were never within an hour of being on time. One time they literally just never showed up. And they couldn't care less. I call them for normal transactional things everything is fine. I call to ask them why my things are ruined, why they don't show up, etc, I've called them from cell phones, from home phones, from the US, from England, and they're like "sorry I can't hear, breaking up, bye". So they take $1300 and I have no intact belongings. Honestly have never known of a more dismally disgraceful company. Cannot stay far enough away. read more

We rented a fridge from them last Fall at NYU. It was delivered and set up as promised, but then it became clear within a few hours that the fridge did not work. It then took forever to schedule a pick up and redelivery. We would leave a message and not get a return call and have to call again. This went on for a week. They would not discount part of the rental price for delivering a bad fridge (did anyone check it before delivery?) and then the long wait. Also we never got our deposit back, even after asking for it several times. Since they won't respond to any direct emails and phone calls, my only recourse is to post here. Maybe they'll give a shit now. Never never using them again. There are lots of competitors -- you should use someone else. read more

Would not recommend renting a fridge from here. So much more worthwhile to just BUY your own. I ordered a fridge and it was set to be delivered, but it never arrived. When I called they told me the order must have been missed, and they forgot about my delivery. I set up yet another delivery time and there was no delivery. I will definitely not be using this service again. It was not worth the stress that it caused me. At the end of last semester everything went fine--they picked up my storage box at the scheduled time (they were about 30 or so minutes late, but didn't think that was a big deal at the time because they called to let me know they were running late). A few weeks ago, after sending them my new location information, I called to confirm a time for them to drop off my things. A couple days before that scheduled time I got a call saying they weren't sure which box was mine and to tell them a few things in the box. I was confused that they didn't have a system to track this, but I told them what was in it and was told I would get a call back when they figured it out. I never heard back so I assumed it was all settled. About an hour before the scheduled drop off time they called and told me they wouldn't be able to get my things in that night and if they could reschedule for tomorrow. I was annoyed, but agreed because they said I could pick a time between 11am and 5pm, so I chose 11am because I wanted my things ASAP. I made sure to be around at 11am, and no sign of the box at all between 11-5--I even called them 3 different times during this span and was told repeatedly it was coming, the driver was down the street should be there within the hour, etc., basically being lied to just to get me off the phone. Around 6:30pm I got a call from Kevin that said my stuff was never on the truck to begin with and they still didn't know which one was mine. So basically, I waited around all day for nothing and was consistently being lied to. He told me to email him with what was in my box so they could find it. I didn't hear back all weekend (this was a Friday, and it was Labor Day weekend so they were closed Monday too), even after a follow up email, so finally on the following Wednesday I called them. I was put on hold for about 15 minutes until finally they said they found it and would deliver it that night. So, in the end it all worked out (delivery was 30 mins late again, but I was just happy I had my things finally) and Kevin was very nice about it, but I still got my things about a week late which really ruined my plans for moving in, was lied to multiple times, and didn't see any progress being made unless I continuously called and emailed. This situation forced me to alter my plans to move in and wasted many hours of my time. They left me sleeping on a bare mattress! They made a lot of excuses, saying one night that their truck was towed, another that police(???) were searching the trucks, and then when they ran out of excuses, the guy who had called me from the company shut his phone off and started ignoring my calls. Impossible to get them on the phone, even during regular business hours! And I STILL don't have my stuff. Do yourself a favor and shell out for something more reputable, like Boxbee, or skip the deliveryman and rent a storage locker somewhere. read more

I did storage with this company at the end of my Freshman year, come sophomore year I didn't receive my box until 4 days after the scheduled delivery date and after I had already moved back in. At first they had completely forgotten that I had scheduled a delivery and then it became a matter of them MISPLACING MY BOX. I was reimbursed the cost of storage and promised storage for the following year free of charge. Never again will I ever do business with this company. I was told that I had to pay for the storage first and then I would be credited back my money. Delivery day comes, I still don't have my refund, and they sent ONE MAN to deliver a 205lb box. Lets just say the whole box ripped apart on its way from the truck to my door and I had to unpack it in the hallway. STAY FAR AWAY! P.S. I have been using this storage since my daughter was a freshman at NYU and she is now a junior. Each time they have very efficient. My daughter studied abroad two times and each time the boxes and the items came back in great condition. This was my second year of using Collegiate's service for shipping and storage. I have to say that this was honestly the worst company I have ever worked with. As a student with a customer service background, they definitely are in dire need of changes to how they run their business. They never dropped off the boxes I needed on the date I scheduled, did not call me to apologize or give me a reason as to why they did not come by, nor did they ask for me to reschedule. I had to call them several times till they answered the phone until I eventually got through with someone to reschedule a date. Long story short they dropped off my boxes a week late and picked up my boxes a week late. Afterwards I went out of the country for 3 weeks only to come home and find that the 1 box I sent for shipping WAS NOT AT MY HOUSE. It took them over 3 weeks to get my box out, and my box had all my clothes, my computer, and several important documents. I could not even track my package because the number given to me was invalid according to the USPS website. When I called them to complain the owner basically made everything out to be my fault and did not even offer a refund for the hundreds of dollars I paid for their AWFUL service, he simply blamed me and made excuses for his company to make it seem like they were not in the wrong. Once I finally received my box, it was slightly beaten up, our mail man told me that it had been shipped via a train... A TRAIN... who uses trains anymore honestly. My dad works for UPS and said that when items are shipped through trains, packages can remain in the cars for weeks, months even, until the car is full... the fact that they are shipping people's items through this and gambling with their time is ludicrous! Did I mention that I was charged $119 in addition to the $50 I paid for the "service" they provided me... only to receive my box bruised and 3 weeks late. I have never been made so angry by a business, they made me feel as if my issues did not matter and that my problems were not priority number one. read more

Figuring out how to handle moving my son out of his dorm in NYC was a bit daunting since we live in CA. But Collegiate Storage and Rental made the whole process SO EASY. Everyone I spoke with, from the office staff to the delivery guys to the very nice owner, was friendly, knowledgeable, patient and oh so helpful. They answered all my (many) questions, accommodated the dates I asked for, were very timely and so pleasant to work with. We ended up ordering far too many boxes than we needed but it was not a problem to return the boxes for a credit. It took a little while and a few follow up calls to get the credit, but I knew they were swamped with moves and I thought this was totally understandable. I recommended them to friends and plan to use their services again next year. read more

I ordered my fridge two weeks before I moved in and did not see anywhere to pick a delivery date. After several calls I got a tentative date and skipped orientation to wait around for 3 hours and no one showed. They are terribly hard to reach via phone. I have called every day since to get some kind of estimate if when. They're supposed to come today. We have already paid. I am not satisfied. Do not use this company!!! The service was absolutely terrible. I ordered a microchill (microwave/fridge/freezer combo) from them for my dorm room. The microchill was delivered before move-in day as promised. However, the plastic/glass plate on the inside of the microwave was too big for the microwave so it wouldn't spin, making it nonfunctional. I called to ask for a replacement plate, they promised a delivery time but never arrived. They were closed by this time so I had to wait the weekend to call them (which seems like a repeating pattern from the other reviews i'm reading). I called over and over and over, always sent right to voicemail or hung up on. I was promised a delivery again. Didnt show up. more harassing calls. promised another deliver. Didnt show up. and the process repeated on more time. Finally after the fifth promised delivery date/time they showed up. However instead of delivering it to my dorm like promised we had to meet them infront of our residence hall. Which normally wouldn't be a big deal but it just added to the frustration of the whole situation. I have heard stories like this from lots of people in my house. STAY AWAY! Their storage service is horrible. On the pickup they were about 2 hours late! When we came back for the school year, it was even worse. We sent an email and called to make sure they had us down from 11am - 1pm. At about 1:05 we call them asking where the drivers are. Their response was they would't get there until 5pm! 4 hours later! At least their refrigerator rental service was okay. We were surprised it was already in the room before we got there. Overall, my experience with this company has been abysmal. If you go to school in New York do not use this company. The first year I was a customer, service was spotty but still arrived on the day it was expected, albeit late. I then returned for a second usage and ordered four boxes. I only wound up using three and was not given a refund for the fourth after promises that I would. In receiving my items after my second usage, I was not sent an email asking when I would like my storage to be delivered. Contacting the company results in promises for return calls, which do not happen. I finally was able to lock down a day for them to deliver my property, on which they arrived and told me that my boxes were not on the truck at all, and that they were unsure where they were and that they might be on the other truck set to deliver the next day. I spent an entire day waiting for this shipment. They informed me that they would call me the next day and deliver my boxes, but I wound up having to call them. Six calls later, customer service informs me that they cannot get the boss on the phone and they will put me down for another day entirely for delivery. In the short of it: I received no refund for a box I paid for and did not use, I was never contacted about my boxes, they essentially lost my personal property and no one has told me where it actually is, and they continue to push back the delivery of my storage (which is missing as far as they have told me). My experience with this company has been appalling, and I would never recommend anyone else to use it. read more

My review is simply on their rentals - specifically on small freezer/refrigerator/microwave appliances for college students. I cannot comment on their storage or shipping processes. The price was astronomical and I wish I never rented from this company. I ended up paying $277.18 for the academic year for a micro fridge/freezer/microwave combo I ordered as a rental for my child's freshman year. It was in the room on move in day - that was the good news - the only good news. It may actually have never been removed from the preceding year. It did not work, it smelled bad, it was beat up and it had old food in it. I called to complain and although the co-owner was very nice on the phone his enthusiastic customer service did not trickle down to his employees. Weeks later, after more calls from me, an employee of the company showed up and took the broken one and dropped off a new micro fridge/freezer minus the microwave still in the box - he made no attempt at all to set it up and get it working. The roommates did all the work and yes it's working now but they still don't have the microwave I paid for. Parents run away from this scam unless you really want to overpay for an appliance they were selling at Target for about $60.00. I've heard that though a lot of Freshmen have this "service" most Sophomores don't - older and wiser I guess. read more

Incredibly horrible experience. This company does not even monitor the storage of your belongings. I called the company to ask about the status of my items and the woman replied that she did not know what my things were. She also said that I was booked for delivery between 7 and 10pm. I was not aware of this at all and that was the first time I was told that. I labeled all of my belongings with my name AND contact information. Somehow, this incredibly disorganized service, did not even group my boxes and bags together. When I requested the return of my things they returned to me less than HALF of what I had given them. Half an hour PAST the entire time slot for the delivery, the initial unloading staff member was pleasant and clearly frazzled by the situation and tried his best to help. Then, the driver of the delivery truck, who was obviously the trained one was quite unpleasant. Giving excuses and calling the customer "babe"? Extremely unprofessional and downright insulting. He made excuses and said that he had "4 more deliveries to do" and that there was nothing he could do. 4 more deliveries?? Half an hour past the entire time slot? He then proceeded to say that we should call the secretary in the office in the morning. IN THE MORNING. Because the office was CLOSED. THE OFFICE WAS CLOSED DURING THE DELIVERY.
