Alison who runs the FF boutique location is amazing. Informed, meticulous, responsive, and passionate about preserving film. FF offers secure, trustworthy and If you live on Long Island, the work is done LOCALLY. If you don't, I can confirm the work is done locally! There are two facilities, one to handle-large volume orders, the other for smaller projects. If you send your precious footage here, as long as the mail service does its job, its's a family business, they do it in-house and do it right. Super 8, VHS, reel to reel (audio reel as well) any film you have I think! My project was old VHS tapes, in questionable condition. Alison explains the process of how your physical film is inspected visually first, if repairs are needed order to review/duplicate, your approval is required before they touch your film. There's an order form which outlines all costs and services available. You can get DVDs and/or digital files downloaded to a hard drive/thumb drives, and I think uploaded to drop box if you have an account (with decent storage space). Alison will advise what the quality of your original footage is so you can set realistic expectations of what it will look like once duplicated! It's sort of garbage in/garbage out, and keep in mind modern HD and retina technology is much more sophisticated. So if your footage wasn't spectacular to begin with, be realistic. I had 8+ VHS tapes, unmarked, with assorted footage on each. Alison figured out a naming system to ID the VHS to the DVDs and digital files, she worked with the tight timeline I had (smack in the middle of the bust holiday time) and delivered the project EARLY! This is for an archiving project I'm working on, and I had no idea what was on the tapes. I had a ton of anxiety choosing duplication company and entrusting them with someone else's precious memories. Which is another reason why Alison is awesome. She gets why the work she does is so meaningful, historical, sentimental, she cares. She explained it all. They do not view your tapes for content, they monitor for duplication function and to be sure the tape isn't blank. I made a special request for Alison to review the tapes, because we didn't even want to risk putting it a home VHS player and risk damaging old tape. She was able to fit in time to accept my request and confirmed the tapes were playable! There was footage and no repairs were needed. This is a super long review! But the service was super stellar. If you skipped to this part: get your families to dig out the archives, transfer and preserve your histories. I'm doing that with my family now, and as relatives age, you realize...do it now! While people are still here to enjoy and reminisce. Alison thank you for all your attention to detail. Can't wait until I can bring you the next project!
