With all of the electric power outages we have had in our area, we decided to install a manual transfer switch that would allow us to connect our house to a portable generator. Suffice to say, it was not a easy experience to get the city to approve our permits. Apparently the city did not understand what we were doing and insisted that we spend tens of thousands of dollars drawing up plans and generating performance reviews. After about 3 months our first contractor bailed on us, and Collins Electric, knowing the difficulties offered to continue the work. We reviewed the original design and came up with a much simpler more elegant solution than the original plan. The original plan called for a manual transfer switch and cutoff on the same panel. This design separated the switch and the panel into two separate devices. Drastically increasing the number of circuits we could power on the generator (8 instead of 4) as well as ended up coming out cheaper material wise. After revising the design and resubmitting we ran into the same issue with the city. We eventually got fed up and emailed the city mayor and within 24 hours the head inspector had a personal meeting with us the following week resulting in the entire package being reviewed and approved in 30 minutes. Suffice to say, I am quite happy that this electrician managed to get this through the pipe in a week that took over 6 months prior. The work was conducted in two days, the week of approval with the final city inspection 4 days later. Dion was absolutely professional and respectful, even with all of the shenanigans the city of Rancho Pulled (the city is designed to dissuade home owners from getting small work done). He worked with me, allowed me to source and supply the materials ensured the job was done to our needs as well as the city needs. Had them install a Ring floodlight cam. It was not installed flushed and charged an additional $40 to reinstall. After second install I noticed that it was missing caulking on top portion. Also, installed three light fixtures and three decora switches. Each decora switch was sold to me at $20 ($60 total). Claimed that they were new decora switches but they were obviously used and left over from a previous job. Left smudges all over wall and made no effort to vacuum or pick up the mess and wiring that was left over in each room.
