It was nice to not have a pink house on moving day but it wasn't a color we would have selected, or was the quality of the paint job that particularly great. One day, I noticed a Brooks Painting sign go up across the street. They did a beautiful job in that house so I gave them a call and a day later Jon was over to assess our house and give us a quote and a few weeks later they were over scraping the peeling paint job from problem spots and painting our house navy with white trim I had been dreaming about since we moved in. For a pop of color we had them add coral doors, too. When I first saw it finished I had tears in my eyes. I loved it so so much. The next summer we decided to restain our deck so I reached back out to Jon and they came and power washed and restained our deck beautifully. We also needed a few boards replaced and they did that part, too. Both jobs were big so it wasn't cheap (we have a very large deck) but the price on both jobs was VERY reasonable given the amount of work and the quality of the job they provided. Communication was constant and we had a lovely relationship develop with them. I would 100% hire them again for future work and recommend them highly to anyone who needs painting or deck staining at their home.

The initial quote was $250 for a deep clean of my house (excluding the garage and the basement). I'll note that my house is generally very clean; when the cleaners arrived, my house was not in bad shape at all. Initially, 3 women showed up. I let them in and they began do what they do, not long after another woman and the owner Sergio showed up. At no point did Sergio speak to me about the services or what they were doing; they just all seemed to be busy cleaning. My personal opinion is the service was okay, but they ended up charging me $407 for additional deep cleaning. This wasn't communicated to me, and to be honest, any additional time they spent cleaning was entirely due to their lack of urgency not what was actually needed. I called and complained; and they decreased the fee to $365. I have no problem paying for a service, however I think this interaction was a not very good, and I'm not happy with how it appeared they were just trying to take advantage of the situation. The costs of this service compared to the work I actually feel they did doesn't line up. If you charge for additional time, it should be very clear where or why that time is needed; I feel they (the cleaners) moved at a pace that didn't allow them to complete the service in a reasonable time.

I found a countertop and asked questions about veining because the countertops that I picked out had veins. First off the guy came to measure the countertops and they were cut two short and they gave us a hard time about that and then to tell me that I could have my contractor fill in the holes. Second I decided to use the countertops as back splashes and again asked the question about the veins matching. They told me they would match. Not the case at all. When they came to install for a second time the veins do not match the backsplashes after I was told they would. They claimed they never said this which is not true and told me that I had buyers remorse. For a $10,000 job they are doing sloppy work and do not care about the customers. I had asked about a discount because now I have to live with ugly countertops that do not match and will only receive a 5% discount which is nothing. The owner does not care about his customers and only cares about his money. Buyers beware of this place. Also when you walk into the shop the staff look miserable as they never have smiles on their faces, it's like they can't be bothered to get up to help you. Buyers beware of this place.

Jessica was wonderful to work with and I was impressed enough with the experience that I wanted to share. I had a general idea of what we needed, and Jessica was very helpful in discussing options and making recommendations on a walk-in. They have a beautiful store and many options. I was sent home with several samples beautifully packaged and a "homework" assignment to get some rough measurements of my windows so that she could give a ballpark estimate. Probably within an hour of me sending over measurements, she had responded with a visual and intuitive quote for all in pricing including product and measure/install services. They have great warranties here and I had a 20% off promotion (on product and install) for after a move. The estimate was actually lower than (competitive with) other local window treatment specialty stores in Ann Arbor. We ended up going with a big box option as the option that fit best for us, but if we wanted greater peace of mind with higher quality product and excellent service, I definitely would have chosen The Shade Store.
