Phenomenal bar if you want some quick drinks on a dime! You can't go wrong with $1 beers and $1 shots! However, I'd be cautious with the milk product ones. We ordered the pistachio shots, and my husband took it without smelling it and said it tastes weird. I smell everything, all the time, so when I smelled it I instantly knew the milk had gone sour. I mentioned it to the bartender and she was great about it. Mind you, I had the coquito one and it was good. I also tried the watermelon and parcha shots, as well as, had a mojito. All great. Side note, if you pay in big bills, make sure you get your change back, if not they may count it as tip . I was visiting the Old San Juan in Puerto Rico. after walking around for hours on a sunny day, we found this place with outside seating. Great choices fir food and the best happy hour cocktails. Their happy hour included margaritas, piña colada, rum punch and mojitos. 2x10 I ordered the passion fruit margarita and it was phenomenal. Very refreshing! The menu had wide variety of choices of "comida criolla". We ordered some cheese sticks and mini alcapurrias to share and I ordered the Mofongo, puertorican dish. It's fried plantain mixed with garlic, spices and served with fried pork. The dish was excellent it had lots of "carne frita" and a very tasty flavor. If you're looking for very inexpensive drinks for happy hour, this is your place. I'm not sure if they're happy hour is the entire time they are open or during certain hours. They have a few slot, machines, and good music. The bartenders are friendly, and they have multiple staff for a small of a place as it is. One of the outside sitting areas might have been theirs. When we arrived, they had the lights off. I guess to keep it cooler. It is not air-conditioned. There's only one bathroom for everyone and it was pretty clean for what it was. When in Old San Juan this is a solid place to go for cheap drinks and reasonably priced food. They have happy hour specials on food and drinks all day. You can't beat $5 Pina Colada's and Mojito's. I had the fried pork mofongo for my dinner and it also was really good and the portion was pretty good size. Yummy Piña Coladas and good food. We ordered Goat stew, Skirt steak and Arroz con pollo. All tasted good. The prices are a bit high but they do automatically add the gratuity to your bill so that you don't have to harsh that Pina colada mellow. We walked through Old San Juan and decided to have dinner somewhere close and that is how we stumbled into this place. The drinks are yummy, the food is homestyle, portions huge and priced on the higher range. Our party of four with 4 alcoholic , 2 non alcoholic beverages and 3 entrees plus gratuity came close to 90 bucks. Reading the reviews of this place is a little surprising but our experience was limited. Here is what it entailed: Food: Best mofongo we had in PR, we got it with shrimp. Admittedly we both preferred it when it was very garlicky and theirs sure was. By a long shot it was my favorite mofongo, actually. Drinks were cheap and strong which is a great combo for happy hour. Service: Nice but very slow which is why my experience wasn't 5 stars. I'm not going to complain about a prolonged eating experience too much when I'm escaping a harsh Pittsburgh winter on a tropical island. For the price I'd recommend this place for sure. If you like garlicky mofongo, or you're trying it for the first time I'd say this is a great place to get your feet wet with it! read more

You hear "I want to hang out with the locals" all the time but no one actually ever means it. What they want is a place that isn't all tourists but is still in their familiar, comfortable, safe-feeling territory. This is a "locals" place that is, for whatever reason, right smack in the middle of the tourist zone, just up the hill from the cruise port. I mean, it's next door to a Starbucks. But are any tourists going to come in here? Probably not. It's dark, it's a little dank, and we got some strange looks when we came in. We were directed here by a bartender from another place down the street, who was nice enough to be honest when we asked about a famous Puerto Rican rum (Barrilito) that his bar happened to be out of at the time. Not only did they have it here, but they had quite a bit of other rum available. You would think a "rum bar" would be easy in Old San Juan, since that's one thing for which PR is famous, but, after visiting four places, I was really disappointed. Don Q, which is available even in gas stations in PR, is the best we could find. Every other bar had mojitos, sangrias and pina coladas, but no good rum. Even the "rum bar" that showed up on Yelp had been re-branded as a pizza & craft beer place. Really strange. The bartender didn't speak English, or at least did not want to speak English to me. One of those venerable old bartenders who you could probably get some great stories from. I speak enough Spanish to be able to get by, so it wasn't a problem, but this would not work for everyone. We got a "shot" of the rum I wanted, which was actually just a tiny plastic cup full of the rum I wanted. This would be a good way to do some rum tastings of different brands. The bartender climbed up a ladder to get the bottle of what we wanted and we paid with a credit card. I had to review this place because it was so strange to go from tourist bar to tourist bar then, right where all the tourists are going, find this place. My guess is that it's been around long enough to survive the changes in the area, but I'm certainly not an expert. read more

Was wandering this busy street trying to find a restaurant to eat at. There were many different restaurants to pick from. But ultimately was drawn to this one because it offered Puerto Rican food and there were happy hour deals. There were 2 for $6 beers and 2 for $10 rum and cokes. We didn't go inside the restaurant as there was already seating outside, which makes it eye-grabbing to the customer. Can't miss this place with it's bright orange and white plastic chairs. We sat down and our waitress was very friendly. Wish she were just a little more attentive towards the whole meal. Since we were sitting outside and she had to go inside to get our food and check on other customers, it took a while for my water to be refilled and for us to ask for the check. The food also took a while to come out. For our meal, we started out with the mofongo. It was alright, nothing special. It was a little tough to put a fork through. For our meal, my friend and I got two entrees to share. I got the arroz con pollo while she got the the shrimp with mojo criollos sauce. The chicken was a little dry but I didn't have enough water to wash it down so I didn't finish it. The shrimp had a lot of sauce on it, which overpowered the shrimp a bit. The rice and beans were pretty flavorful. Overall, we had a satisfying meal that was quite inexpensive but honestly would never come back. The street itself is nice with tons of live music so we were constantly entertained during the meal. However, go somewhere else, there are so many better restaurants in the vicinity. read more

I have been in the restaurant industry for almost 10 years and this was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. We visited the restaurant to grab some pizza on the 4th of July at about 230pm. There was one other table at the restaurant and there were 4 people working in the front of house that I could tell. Bartender cook and 2 servers. I'm going to assume that the server we had usually plays another role in the restaurant because there is no way he has been doing this for longer then that day. He was lacking any form of verbal communication and mainly spoke with gestures and by repeating what we asked with a weird attitude. There was a lot he did wrong but I would have still left him a tip if he would told us "buen provecho" when he dropped off the food, asked how everything tastes after our first slice of pizza, and generally treated us like he wanted to make our visit pleasant- none of that occurred until it was time for me to sign the tip, so no tip. On top of a horrible experience with the server the female cook was a raging B****. After we ordered our half pepperoni have cheese pizza my bf went to the bathroom and as I was sitting there waiting she starts talking about how it's wrong to order half pep and half cheese and was going on about how this isn't Pizza Hut or whatever LOUDLY! So loud that I got up from my table and asked her if there was a problem with our order. Wtf. She told me that our food was already in the over and when I look down she is actually still making ours and the pizza that was in the oven was obviously for the table next to us. I clarified what I heard and that was it. My bf came out right then and asked her what was going in because he could hear her talking crap while he was in the men's bathroom. The pizza was just as good as Digorno crust was ehh and too thick and sauce was ehh. Nothing special at all. Will never visit again and if anyone asks about it I will def recommend that they take their business elsewhere. read more

Nice location and decently priced. East Indians, there's an item called crispy fried chicken with rice and beans which is close to what we get back home. It is not as spicy but the medium size and crispness reminded me of south Indian fried chicken and goes well with beer. The Mojitos were good too...the mint was so fresh The staff were nice except one lady who asked us to move indoors in the middle of our meal, when a larger party arrived. Terrible! Over $50 for two people for the worst meal I had in Puerto Rico. Chicken was chewy, steak was overly salty, and food was way overpriced. Mojito was decent, and atmosphere is what you're paying for. Absolutely would say stay away, you can use you money better on a food truck. read more

Had a feel for drinks & mid-day snack came to this place. The drinks were alright, had five all the meanwhile had order food. After an hour and a half food had still not arrived. Wasting our day we decided to go. On the check was the food we ordered disputing it with the staff, nobody knew who was in charge of it or who had placed the order. The food came out five minutes later & the owner came saying the food takes time to cook & everything is freshly made. Colmado Bar Moreno is as local as it gets. It's basically a Liquor Store with a counter/seats and great music on the weekends that everyone dances to. It's a small place but it's charmingly still in the 1970's and I always think that this place is pure Puerto Rican FUN on the weekends and a quiet little spot during the week. read more

I ordered the goat stew and it was delicious but the amount of meat served was a joke it's was mostly bone and fat. The wait is long. This place is bad for groups they did not bring all of the food at the same time they brought my friend's food after we were all done eating.
