The picadera consisted of tostones, bolitas de yuca, fried chicken, longaniza (blood sausage), and shredded pernil (pork). We also tried some pastelillos. Honestly everything was so good we left stuffed! The service was amazing even after the crowds started arriving and it got busier. Our server Gaby was great! Because it's up in the mountains, parking is limited and once it starts getting crowded it can be hard to find parking and seating in the restaurant. I recommend getting there no later than 1pm or 2pm right when they open. Trust by 3:30 it's already super packed. The mountain views and crisp air was so amazing and a refreshing change of scenery from the beaches and city life of San Juan. If you have some free time, I'd def recommend adding to your itinerary.

It blended together so well that I didn't want the food to run out. We split a bottle of wine, which was less expensive but higher quality than we would usually afford. One of my darker skinned friends ordered three empanadas and only received two. When she tried to speak to one of the servers about getting her third empanada they refused. She said she was willing to pay for it, but they refused to serve her what she asked. Then, they said there's always a problem with "you people". Then all of a sudden they lied and said she was trying to scam them. As we're walking out, they start cursing at us and saying things like " I hope everyone except you (referring to my darker skinned friend) has a good day". The servers were overall very disrespectful, they cursed, and they were overly unprofessional. So even though the food was okay this was a horrible experience. As we were leaving, we saw two other darker skinned black women walk up to try and order. We told them about our experience and the servers started lying and saying that we are there every day and always causing problems. This was also untrue. That was the first time we've ever been to this restaurant. We walked a block down the street to wait for our car service. Then moments later, we bumped into the same dark skinned black women we saw earlier and they told us that their presence wasn't even acknowledged. So like I said even though the food was pretty okay. It wasn't good enough to be okay with the blatant colorism where it wasn't expected.

Head up stairs stamped with "La Jefa" and "El Jefe" to the upper level where there is an open kitchen, vibey lighting, and a bar with seating. We were seated at the corner which faced onto the street; bonus: an epic fan was right over us, keeping us cool! The host who brought us upstairs was super kind and shared some recommendations, which was helpful. The bartender/server was less warm but helped a bit. We were hoping for local eats but the menu was definitely more American, so we ended up grabbing some chicken tacos and mozzarella sticks to share. The chicken was incredibly bland which was disappointing, but the mozzarella sticks were fine (I mean, it's hard to mess those up if you're just throwing them into a fryer). Onto the drinks - I'm glad my husband enjoyed his Tepucho (tequila, pineapple, cinnamon, peach) because my drink wasn't it. I ordered La Jefa which sounded delightful on the menu (vodka, jobo juice, lime, agave) but was incredibly watered down. It literally felt like I was drinking ice water scented with the dried citrus floating on top :( that was a huge let down. The space is cute and has the setting for a good time, but the food and drinks were lackluster for me.
