I live only two miles from the shop so it was a convenient option. I called Flick's on Monday and spoke with the owner, Gene, and he told me to bring the car in. He gave me an estimated time line of about a month or so, which he said was due to the shop's current volume (deer rutting season) and what it takes to deal with insurance companies. After that, by and large, the shop handled all communications with the insurance company, including the supplemental parts lists, etc. I hadn't had a car in a body shop in 30+ years and it was eye opening to see that the Allstate claim payment actually included a list of used and aftermarket parts for the shop to buy (I naively thought that it was the collision shops that identified and sourced the necessary parts). The repair ended up taking 5 weeks to complete. Given the Christmas holiday and some difficulty obtaining parts from Allstate's sources, that didn't upset me. When my son and I went to pick up the car, while the paint work was very good, I wasn't quite happy with the fit of the replacement hood. Gene came out to the car with us and explained that aftermarket parts don't always fit like OEM parts. I could tell what he was saying was true because the contour of the aftermarket hood did not perfectly match the contour of the quarter panels so there was no way it could be made perfect. After discussing for a while though, Gene said that he would try replacing the driver's side hood hinge and see if that would help. He said he would call me when the hinge came in. A few days later he did call and we brought the car back in. The next day the car was done and we went to get it. It looked much better. Gene explained that he made adjustments to multiple parts. I give this shop 5 stars because Gene could have simply said that the original repair was as good as they could do, but he didn't. He stepped up to make sure I was satisfied. And I believe that at least the extra labor needed was at his own expense, which I greatly appreciate. Integrity and good customer service seem to be in short supply these days, but not at Flick's. Was my experience with Flick's perfect, no, but Gene genuinely wanted to make sure I was satisfied and did his best to make it happen, and that absolutely matters. Thanks, Gene!

You get a different "manager" each time that gives you the run around. The service department had my truck and closed 3 hours early without calling me and refused to release my truck to me. We dropped off the tires and rims, and the following day, they confirmed everything was ready for pickup. We paid $120 and asked if everything was properly installed--they assured us it was. After bringing the tires and rims home and installing them on our truck, we noticed within a couple of days that both front tires had deflated to 10 psi and both rear tires to 20 psi. We inflated all four to 35 psi and sprayed soap around the tire edges to check for leaks. One tire bubbled around the rim, and the other three showed leaks around the valve stems. We contacted one of the shop owner's family members, who told us the shop should fix the issue since it should've been caught before releasing the tires. My son called the shop and asked when we could bring the truck in for repair. They said they would charge $100 to remove the tires from the truck, citing their weight. However, they offered to fix the issue for free if we brought in just the tires. Shortly after that, they told my son it would be $100 to replace the valve stems. That's unreasonable--valve stems cost under $10 total. We already paid $120 for the installation, and most reputable shops check for leaks and include valve stem replacement as part of the tire mounting service. This experience was extremely disappointing. I plan to contact the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and other consumer protection services to file a formal complaint. This behavior feels fraudulent and deceptive. Consumers should be very cautious when dealing with this shop.

Instead, I received an invoice for $736.80 that didn't even include the CV axle work I came in for. I was charged $345 for a "diagnostic" on a problem I had already identified and explained, and a $20 washer was turned into a $307 brake hose replacement I never authorized. The work order mischaracterized what I told them -- they wrote "brakes spongy" and "axle is making noise," neither of which I said. Their own authorization form states they cannot charge for work you did not authorize. Be very careful here and get everything in writing.

My dad had a motor rebuilt by Tabler's that has a knocking issue immediately after the rebuild that they wont stand behind their work. Another mechanic that fixed the issue for my dad said Tabler's son had not fixed the valves or done head work like he said he had before putting motor back together. Many older friends that dealt at Tabler's for years have recently gone elsewhere for repairs due to lack of experience they offer now and how un professional they are to deal with now. Highly recommend going elsewhere for quality work, and to pay a mechanic that actually appreciates their customers and treats them with respect. Mt Airy is a small community and Jeff's son will slowly run the business into the ground like so many older smaller businesses that the younger generation take over and destroy what their families worked so hard to buid up.

Then when I took it back and told them the issue was the same, they said it was me and mansplained a lot. The next mechanic said they never should have went directly to changing the computer, but was not able to find the issue. I ended up that changing a fuse helped, but later on the entire fuse holder needed replaced': and that fixed the issue.
