They definitely shine even more with a little hot sauce on the side. Easy 8/10. The highlight of the meal was the steak tostones. The steak was juicy and tender, the guacamole added a fresh touch, and the tostones were perfectly crispy. My only complaint is that I wish there had been more on the plate because they disappeared fast. 8.5/10. For my entrée, I had the grilled chicken topped with mushroom sauce. It was good and cooked well, but I felt it could have used a little more seasoning and heat to really make it pop. 7.5/10. Beyond the food, the ambiance was fantastic. Every time they get orders wrong. I order two drinks, get one straw. Also the pandebono is sometimes not fresh at all and taste like they're from the day before. Same with the mango juice, tastes like it was frozen overnight and used the next day. When the food here is good, it's good. They need to pay attention to detail though. read more

My husband and I dropped in here on a whim on a recent date night, and we're so glad we did. The space is cavernous, with a fun, festive vibe for those chasing ambiance, along with two enormous TVs for those who just want to kick back and watch some sports with their meal. The menu is diner-deep, but nearly every dish is accompanied with a photo. As newcomers, we found this especially helpful. The fried calamari are fantastic. Hot, freshly fried, and perfectly tender. My husband, who is particular about those tentacle pieces, was delighted to see half our plate covered with them. Since we were at a Columbian restaurant, we wanted to try something authentic but felt too shy to ask around, so we went with something from the specials section called 'chicken with Columbian mushroom sauce'. Wowza was that good. I have no idea how true to the culture it was, but that cream sauce was something else. We dragged everything we could through the last droplets, unwilling to see it wasted. The specials also come with rice, choice of salad or soup, choice of beans, and fried plantains. It's a generous serving size, so much that one shared entree, plus an appetizer and salad, was more than enough food for us. All servers are equipped with ear pieces to directly communicate with staff and the kitchen. It seemed a little overkill at first...until we found out how efficiently the service was as a result. While ordering an entree, for instance, our server was able to quickly chat with the back staff to check if there was any soup left. When we were done with our meal, a busser was able to quickly flag down our server for the check. And when there was a massive crash and spill at a nearby table because some kid chucked his water glass, three people descended upon the mess in - no joke - under ten seconds because of this radio. It's a frighteningly efficient system, and it meant we hardly ever needed to wait for anything. While we didn't get to try anything from the drink or desserts menu this visit, know that the selection is tantalizing. Great bar to watch the World Cup. The place is packed with soccer fans on a Saturday afternoon. The calamari was lightly breaded and served with a marinara sauce. Decided to meet here for drinks and a bite on a whim and the place was pretty lively both indoors and in their outdoor seating area. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very nice and attentive throughout our time. We ordered a 1/2 pitcher of red sangria and 2 salads (glazed salmon and shrimp). What a treat! We enjoyed our first-time visit here at Colombia Kaliente. I was surprised that inside was actually quite spacious. It had a fun vibe, with sports shown on TV, good music, friendly staff and of course delicious food! the portions were generous and the meats were flavorful! I love coming to Kaliente's normally for dinner, but this time we decided to go for breakfast and it did not disappoint. I started off with a delicious beef/potato empanada just one lol to have with my creamy cafe. Then I ordered my healthy omelette -egg white omelette with spinach and was supposed to also have mushrooms but I think the cook left them out lol, but other than that it was tasty. My health omelette came with a perfect side of fresh fruits and they were sweet and delicious. The people that serve you are always very attentive and always pleasant. Kaliente always has great music on very nice ambiance. Why I don't give them a five star is because besides being well attended-host or on hand management at the door are very serious. First time coming for breakfast! Dined in on a Saturday around 11am. I was surprised at how empty it was. I've been several times during dinner and then place gets packed. Nonetheless, had a great experience. The staff is always attentive, the place is always cleans there are never crazy wait times. I stopped in for dinner and again enjoyed a great red snapper. The new app, guacamole with Chicharron was exceptional, served with some crispy tostones. My sister and I have been regular customers for over a year and a half, but our recent visit was very disappointing. The red snapper was over-fried, the fries were undercooked, the tostones were poor, and the empanadas tasted frozen rather than homemade. When we politely asked if the food could be remade, management said they couldn't guarantee we would like a second order. The manager never came by to speak with us directly and instead had the waiter handle the situation, which made our concerns feel dismissed. We were also charged $80 for empanadas and three drinks, which seemed excessive. After more than a year and a half of loyalty, we expected better food quality and customer service. Very friendly staff in this airy big spot with full glass front and outside seating on sidewalk along Palisade Ave. As expected they have excellent coffee and assorted snacks in a glass case. I only had a cheese roll but it was quite good. I'll be back soon to try more things next time. They have a full menu as well. Very clean and well kept overall. read more

Finally got a chance to visit this relatively new Colombian joint on a Sunday afternoon and my wife and I had a great time. I. SPACE/ATMOSPHERE (5/5) First, the place is much larger than it seems from the street. It literally is cavernous, with dedicated bakery on the left side, bar at the back, and main dining area with large screen TVs playing your favorite fútbol and the place was pretty packed. Bakery was selling delicious colombian baked goods including empañadas that'll make you drool, alongside fancy pants coffee drinks. Great, happy vibe in a nice space. II. FOOD We decided to order a beef and chicken empañadas from the bakery because we were cungry, and ordered a fried fish with that creamy mushroom sauce with a side of regular salad & yellow rice + wife ordered fried whole red snapper with side of salad and black beans. Beef empañada (APP, 2/5) - While it looked good, it had 90% potatoes so that's thumbs down in my book Chicken empañada (APP, 3/5) - This one was better, still a bit on the dry side which the accompanying red and green salsa helped. But I've had kick-ass empañadas before and they told me this was nada Filete Empanizado en Salsa al Vino y Champiñones(Breaded Fish Fillet w/ Wine mushroom sauce) (ENTREE, $21.79 (cc), 4/5) - Who can refuse that wine mushroom sauce? Who? Who? Who? Fish was moist and that sauce *mic drop* I generally don't prefer too much carbs so I switched out potatoes to salad, but did not mind the sweet plantains. The portion is GINORMOUS - you could easily just order this and an extra app for two adults. I enjoyed the regular salad side which helped cut through all the heaviness Pargo/Fried Red Snapper (ENTREE, $26.99(cc), 3/5) - Wife had high hopes, but fish was tad bit too dry. The menu picture lied - it had no tomato/cucumber relish but just the whole fish with a few lemon wedges (see pic). It was decent with extra side of red salsa, but I would appreciate them making this dish more balanced by offering relishes on the onset. I mean it's a $30 entree for crying out loud. A missed opportunity in my opinion. III. SERVICE (4/5) - Our server wasn't the most attentive and we had to wait for a while for our stuff. Part of this is due to restaurant being crowded and kind of hard to find our server. We asked if my wife's whole fish could be de-meated (is that a word) off the bone and packed, and the waitress said yes, but came back with whole fish wrapped in large foil. I suppose a bit of language barrier? Perhaps our request was a bit far-fetched, so we weren't upset or anything, but a polite no would've been fine. Overall, we did enjoy ourselves although the food could've been better for the price. But being a family-style restaurant with GENEROUS portions, perhaps it's wrong to be too picky, esp. since we had leftover meal the next day. This is a great compelling alternative to Noches down the street because they offer bakery (not sure if noches had that - don't remember seeing it) and is more open and airy. NOTE: This place will give you cash discount so DO bring CA$H. So grab your mullah & give them some love ya'll! read more

The thing that lead me to trying this restaurant was due to the fact I found out I actually had a small percentage of Colombian in my DNA. I came here on a Saturday night with my family. They really like Colombian food and there's various Colombian restaurants in Englewood now. We ordered the montaditos de carne desmechada (shredded meat with mini corn cakes & fried green plantain), tropical salad, and the filete de pescado (grilled flounder) with plantains & white rice. We waited a while for our order so they gave us a complimentary warm pandebono (cheese bread) which was nice. I do like their baked goods from the bakery inside. The fried green plantain corn cake was a bit dry and the beef was not very tender. The flounder was fresh and delicious. The tropical salad was fresh and tasty as well. Overall, the portions were large and the food was good. The service was very slow and it was hard to get a waitress but the place seemed popular. Colombia Kaliente is mucho kaliente!! In fact, my family ate here 3 times in the span of 2 weeks... obsessed? I think yes.     One of my favorite things here is the ceviche... so fresh and  flavorful, I honestly drank every last drop on my plate and then proceeded to order a second order (no shame). For the main, my go-to order has been the salmon, which is cooked to perfection and comes with rice and a yummy fresh avocado salad. The portions here are pretty big, which I love because I have leftovers that can last me another meal. And to top it all off? Their sangria (lychee & berry)  is DELICIOUS. What more can you ask for?   In addition to the great food and drinks, I've found the people who work here to be super nice. During our first visit, a staff member gave us a free bag of their bread as we were heading out the door, which made my day. TLDR: Solid food, beautiful place, service needs a bit of refinement. We came for an early dinner on a Saturday evening. At about 5:30 the place was fairly empty, but by 7 the place was packed, The crowd is diverse, couples on dates, older ladies, boisterous Colombian families. The space itself is large and airy, and while there are large screens on the walls, it doesn't feel like a sports bar. Take a walk to the bathrooms and you'll see that a lot of money went into developing this establishment. We began with glasses of wine, a pinto noir for me, and a white for La Portena. These were undistinguished, next time I'll go for a cocktail or Sangria. The sharing picada, a mixed appetizer platter, was a partial success. The Colombian chorizo was really savory and moist. A generous pile of chicharrones pleased, you'll want to protect your heart by taking some of these home. Fried yucca was pretty standard, but the green sauce elevated it. The mini-empanadas disappointed. Not much crunch, even though they were the fried Colombian version, and the filling was mush. Mains took a while, but were well worth it. La Portena's whole fried snapper looked overdone, but was moist and succulent. It might have been enhanced by a sauce, but lemon sufficed. This came with a bit of salad and some tostones. A large portion for the price. I plumped for the Mar Y Tierra Salteado, kind of a Lomo Saltado with added shrimp. The skirt steak was tender and succulent, the shrimp were fresh, the veggies and fries were nicely done, but what made the dish was the perfectly balanced savory pan sauce. I also ordered the tostones as a side, but preferred the perfectly cooked red beans. We needed two containers to take leftovers home, the portions being so generous, so dessert was out of the question. We had just tried the bakery on our first visit. I was glad we returned. The inside seating area is very spacious and they have a smaller check out area if you're looking to pick up baked goods to go. My partner and I started off with an empanada and a pan de Bono. I loved that they came with various dipping sauce; an aji, pink sauce, and a green sauce which was my favorite! We also ordered some traditional "calentados" his came with rice, beans, steak, maduros and avocado. He really enjoyed his meal but they definitely make the steak well done here. I ordered a similar dish that came with an arepa, fried pork, eggs, rice, beans, maduros, and avocado. I also had an iced coffee which was super tasty and they really listened when I said I wanted very little milk and no sugar. Our first time visiting this restaurant. The customer service was great so I will give them that. They were able to get us a table quick and we were a larger party. Only thing they got wrong was I specifically pointed at a strawberry milkshake and she brought us out a smoothie which we didn't know was wrong because it was our first time. It wasn't until we looked at another table that we realized it wasn't the right item so that was disappointing. There is a major difference in taste between a smoothie and a milkshake. My daughter was the upset one at the end. Now for the food...calamari was delicious. I got the Thai sauce on the side and it was really good! Fiancé got the skirt steak which was chef's kiss! I didn't personally have a drink but the folks in my party who did said they were good and strong. Owner of the Noches De colombia in Hackensack owns this venue as well and you can tell! I thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. I've been eyeing it whenever I go to dinner in Englewood so my parents and I went to try it out. We're Hispanic so we're always on the hunt for some comfort food especially in this area. The interior is newly done, modern, and clean. I loved the addition of the in restaurant bakery and it was lovely even for a Sunday dinner. I could imagine it gets pretty packed on a Fri/Sat evening. There's plenty of space though so not sure if a reservation is necessary. Good for all ages and groups of all sizes. The menu is huge there's so many options to choose from along with drinks and desserts. My parents loved it and were immediately talking about how they can't wait to go back and bring their friends and more family. I'll definitely be back as well. Celebrated my birthday with a large party a few weeks back. None of my friends had ever been there and they really enjoyed the food and environment. The reason I didn't give it five stars is because of some mixups with the menu. We got a prefixed menu that initially included 6 pitchers of sangria, appetizers, our entrées and desserts. A couple of days before, 2 friends couldn't make it and the day of the same. Upon arrival changes were made to the menu. They told us because the number of people had changed, so had the pitchers of sangria however the price was the same . They substituted one of the appetizers for something I would not have chosen. Also, before everyone arrived I asked the waiter to let them know when they had reached the limit of our prefixed menu sangria but that did not happen causing double the amount to be ordered and a confusion between who owed what. At the end of the night it was too much to deal with so everyone just agreed to split evenly. The portions were huge and the taste was outstanding which is why I'll return but I won't have another large party. read more
