They packed abundance of food for the orders, which is unusual for the places I had ordered in the past since I moved to this area. Food was cooked and seasoned very well. Yes, it's a hole in the wall type of place. But these places tend to have the best quick bite. The main thing that I come here for are the empanadas, I just can't resist. The other food they offer is also delicious. Beef, rice, pan de Bono, tres leches, you name it! Within the store they also sell some produce items as well as packaged items. Great spot! Went around noon on a Thursday and it was starting to get packed. The goat stew was on special that day so I tried that. They pack on that rice in the plates.. then you get a choice of beans, then they pour in that meat. I had to drop a star because the goat was a little tough and I got a lot of bones and tendons in my serving Also tried baked chicken, again with rice and beans... this was delicious! About $17 for a large goat stew, medium chicken, and a chicken empanada.. not bad! read more

Came here because it's super close to where I live, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The staff is super friendly, spoke both spanish and english so it was easy to communicate. I happen to speak spanish as well, so it wasn't an issue for me. Now the food, i ordered a cheese empanada, which is overload with delicious cheese. I was very happy. Sometimes you are cheated out and it's nothing but air, that was not the case. For my main entree, I got the pernil with a special fried rice, which was 2 dollars extra, but it was worth it. It has steak and peppers, and was just delicious with the pork. The pernil was pretty tasty, definitely needed some salt, but the hot sauce hot provided gave it a little kick. I will definitely be back to order here, it was good food for a reasonable price. The whole thing came out to 10 dollars. read more

2.5 stars for nice people with mediocre food. I'm so disappointed. La Costena came so highly recommended that I was psyched to finally have a chance to get there while it was open... but the food quality was just not great. The lunch dishes are served cafeteria-style from a very limited menu. Given my few options, I got the beef stew with yellow rice, and a cheese pastry. The rice was well cooked and unseasoned, which I believe is traditional. However, the beef stew lacked any flavor. Although the potatoes were cooked to perfection, the beef was dry and one of the 3 small chunks I was given was a piece of bone, devoid of meat. There were really no vegetables in the mix, and the sauce was just bland. I had high hopes for the cheese pastry, but it was similarly bland and really not good at all. Service was nice (both women with whom I spoke were bi-lingual - big help!) and fairly fast. Parking can be a problem at peek hours. If you're really craving this kind of cuisine, give it a shot... but I wasn't impressed. read more

The beef empanadas are very good however its more of a mash of potato and ground beef, not just beef - still good tho. I want to include that about 3 years ago I ordered a tray of cheese empanadas for International day at my job and the empanadas were pretty much empty. I have never gotten a cheese empanda here for myself tho. During my last visit I got 2 beef empanadas, a cheese arepa, chicharon, pernil, arroz moro, and beans - all for about $13 and fed 2 people. I usually bring Latin American food back home to my family in Illinois every time I go away to work, I have tried several Colombian restaurants and bakeries within 20 minutes from the Teterboro airport area and never went back to any of them but this place was much different, everything I tried was great, it is a cafeteria style combination of Dominican and Colombian food, the ladies working behind the counter were all very nice and the manager/ owner was also very polite and friendly, prices were very reasonable. I always come here if I'm in a rush to grab something to eat or take to work. They have a nice selection of traditional Spanish fusion food, like rice, beans, sweet plantains, pork, rotisserie chicken and ribs. They also have an area where you can sit and enjoy their food.
