What a beautiful, peaceful, relaxing, comfortable little inn! Just one street removed from the main drag, staying here means you'll have all the convenience of hanging near the action, but none of the noise and congestion. Granted, you have to walk up a small hill, but it is quite manageable, even after a night of pub-pedaling (like a pub crawl but on a bicycle!) Forget that fancy place with the big front porch, I love the far less expensive, cozy little red and white Hart's Inn! Making a reservation by phone was easy and checking in and out meant simply picking up and dropping off keys. The room was pristine, bright and cheery. We slept like logs in a very comfy bed with the in-room a/c set just where we like it. We took breakfast the next morning al fresco under one of the bright red umbrellas. The landscaping and lawn is colorful and lush. It was like eating in a garden. I loved the big white mugs filled with plenty of steaming, strong coffee. Pierre, the young on-site manager was very personable and helpful. He did a wonderful job of making sure all was in good order. After breakfast we took a bike ride around the island then checked out and left our bags with Pierre while we did a little more exploring. I love that Hart's Inn does not require a two night minimum stay. We wish it could have been longer but we only had one night available on our itinerary. Make sure to request a room that opens onto the lawn.

Unfortunately one of them had to come clean our room that had been reserved 3 weeks prior to our arrival. When I checked out on July 6th the woman in glasses sitting in the front office looked up from her reading when I told her room ### checking out she said ok and went back to reading. I have stayed in some shady hotels and 5 star hotels yet this is first time not being inquired about the stay. Yes that would not have changed my mind about returning it just affirmed lacking this simple gesture is the negative that breeds more negativity in any working environment.

The owners of the bed-and-breakfast were incredibly nice and even booked a taxi for us for a dinner the next day. They had a light breakfast that was fun to get the day going. You were able to choose from a fruit cup, or yogurt parfait, and some baked goods and a hard-boiled egg. The baked goods were made on site. They also put out some baked goods and fudge samples every afternoon by the front door. Our room was lovely and had a Jacuzzi. Everything was easy to access from the hotel. There was also a honeymoon suite with a big jacuzzi. There was a room which was more of a suite. There was a room with high vaulted ceilings. Breakfast: You will fill out a breakfast sheet the day before of what you would like for breakfast, what time, and where you would like to eat (in your room, the parlor, the courtyard...) They have bagels, muffins, cinnamon buns, hard boiled eggs, juice, coffee, etc... It was just a very homey feel and really loved staying there. They have a journal in the parlor room of various residents that have stayed there over the years that you can read and write your own story. There is a nice front porch and garden where you can watch people walking by.

After a carriage tour of the island, we went here and explored on our own. If you are not staying here, you have to pay an entrance fee to be able to go in and explore. Its porch is the world's longest and offers a great view. Its interiors are intricate and very beautiful. One would see that the carpet, fixtures, and furniture are well taken care of. The vibrant colors, bold contrasts, and floral patterns are everywhere. They have different restaurants inside (Main Dining Room, Cupola Bar, Geranium Bar, The Jockey Club, etc) as well as an ice cream parlor (Sadie's). They also have some areas showcasing artwork/paintings as well as memorabilia from movies shot here: Somewhere in Time and This Time for Keeps. Do not forget to visit the Secret Garden. It's beautiful! The accommodation can be very pricey. Though we did not stay here, visiting (with the entrance fee) is definitely worth it.

Two Star Review:…read more Positives: I like to start off being positive. It's a very whimsical and vintage cottage that reminds you of Anne of Green Gables. The price is very affordable compared to other places to stay on Mackinac Island. Trish has so much rich family and island history. It was fascinating to hear about her childhood and memories growing up on the island. The pastries were also very delicious and homemade. The brunch was all ready and on time at 8:30. It is evident that she puts a lot of hard work into making it nice for her guests. The bath towels were very soft and nice. Minor Issues: There was an egg shell that I found in one of the pastries. The rugs are dirty. I didn't feel comfortable after getting out of the shower and walking on the floor. I felt like I needed to wear shoes throughout the house. The black out shade rod kept falling off. The beds are not the most comfortable. There were no central air or window air conditioner units available so the room was very hot at times. Major Issues: I didn't like how I was treated by Trish on several occasions. I didn't feel very welcomed at this place and wouldn't go back. I called a few days prior to our trip asking about the AC and she answered me making me feel like I was an idiot. She answered in a very snarky tone saying, "Ummm...no??? Hardly any of the places on Mackinac have AC." Not only did I feel stupid at the moment, but we later found out that other places did have AC on the island. When we got there, we felt like our room was crowded with our luggage and pack and play and all of the furniture(we had a toddler with us.) I asked her nicely if we could move one of her antique pieces of furniture so that we could put our pack and play in the corner of the room. Again, she was very cold, snarky and not friendly in her response. She said there was no other place to put the antique but I could move it to another part of the room. So as I was upstairs attempting to move it, it wasn't even able to fit through spaces because it was so crowded. Trish comes into the room very confrontationally and emotionally telling me to stop. She barked, "THIS IS MY HOME!! YOU CAN'T JUST MOVE IT. WHY CAN'T YOUR PACK AND PLAY BE HERE???" as she points to a place that wasn't what I had in mind. I tried to remain calm but I felt very unwelcomed and very uncomfortable in the first 5 minutes I was in the inn. I just tried to explain why I felt most comfortable putting my toddler in the corner of the bedroom. Trish seemed very annoyed and irritated about it. The next morning, I tried to be friendly and ask her questions about her life. She often gave me one word responses but was very conversational and friendly towards other guests. It felt like she showed extreme partiality and favoritism towards other guests. There were several times when she asked me when I was going to pay her for the remaining balance payment, which I also felt was really awkward. You don't usually pay the rest of the amount until you check out, but she asked me once when it was late at night and I was trying to put my daughter to sleep. She asked another time at the dining table during breakfast in front of the other guests. It was very unprofessional and awkward, but I just paid her then because I could tell she was getting anxious about it. Lastly, when my toddler was in her pack and play, she ripped part of the wallpaper off because the ends were peeling and she has been interested in textures. I felt terrible and wanted to be upfront with Trish and confess to her to be honest. Trish rolled her eyes and gave me a really stern look and was not gracious about it at all. I felt bad, but I also felt like...if you are going to be running an inn, you need to be flexible and kind when accidents happen. Lastly, my husband hated the place so much that he wanted to leave early. We booked 3 nights, but we only stayed 2 in the end because he just couldn't stand being there anymore. We called Trish saying we were leaving. She didn't even ask why or how she could help. She basically just said, "ok, bye!!!" It seemed like all she cared about was getting our money. We did not feel welcomed by her, which made us really sad because this was our four year anniversary. We planned for months and were really excited about this trip since this was our first time staying on the island overnight. We budgeted and saved so that we could really have a good time. We still made the most of our trip and had fun doing activities such as biking, going out to eat, and visiting the Grand Hotel. I truly don't get it. There were so many great reviews about their experience at the Bogan Lane Inn. I also saw many locals who had so many sweet interactions with her. I wish that was the case with us. I truly tried to build a good relationship with her but she didn't care about us. I hope that this is something I can laugh about in the future as a funny story, but right now I am pretty bummed.
