The only downside is the noise from the freeway. It's pretty loud and you can hear it quite a bit. Our suite had two balconies, which were nice, but with the light above, it wasn't the greatest place to sit when it was starting to get dark with all the bugs. Parking can be a little cramp. Breakfast was great! Your classic Holiday Inn Express breakfast. Pancake machine and all! They also had cereal, bacon, eggs, all the fixings. They also had an updated coffee machine that grounds the coffee beans for each cup. When we checked in, there was also a nice complementary display box of cookies. The price for all of this was very reasonable. We really enjoyed our stay!

I noticed dead bugs throughout the property, marks on the walls, and paint that looked like it hadn't been updated in years. Overall, I would give the hotel a C- for cleanliness and condition. The service was just okay. During check-in, the front desk staff seemed more focused on their own conversation than assisting guests, which made the experience feel somewhat unwelcoming. I understand that this was one of the more affordable options in the area, but I think the hotel has a lot of room for improvement. If I find myself back in the Mackinaw City or Mackinac Island area, I would probably choose to stay somewhere else. We had a sitting room, king-sized bed, and whirlpool. Our private deck provided a view of Lake Huron. We only stayed one night so we only got to enjoy one breakfast. We had sausage, cheesy potatoes, fresh fruit and a cinnamon roll. It was wonderful. Seating is between 8-9:30am. A self-serve coffee/tea bar is available 24/7. As an added bonus, they serve dessert from 7-8pm nightly. We got to enjoy that one night as well. Dessert was a chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and caramel. Omg, it was so good. We really should have spilt one as they were huge. The place was in a great location. It was a short walk to the Mackinac Island ferry. We walked to a dinner spot. All the shops were only a short walk away. We got there early (before our room was ready) and they allowed us to park in their lot so we didn't have to pay for parking in the ferry lot. Finally, the staff was absolutely wonderful. So helpful. So welcoming. Whatever you needed, they were there for you. The place is spotless. The food is amazing. So glad we stayed.

We did not have a good experience. We just stayed from a Thursday through a Sunday about 1 week…read moreago. On Friday night, the toilet plugged up. There was a plunger in the bathroom, and I tried unplugging it a couple of times but was not successful. This was late at night, around 10 or 11. We waited for 45 minutes, but nobody came up in that time. I went down to the front desk and asked again if someone could come up to take care of the problem. There were two ladies in the lobby, one was busy dealing with other guests. I asked the second one about the bathroom. First, she told me that the other lady was taking care of it. Next, she asked me if there was a plunger in the room, I told her that yes, there was. Then she asked me, in a very rude and exasperated way, why I hadn't taken care of it myself. I told her I tried twice and it didn't work, but also that I was a guest, and I should not be responsible for fixing a problem in the room. I paid money to be taken care of, so to speak, not to be fixing problems. The lady became very upset and rude and started telling me that yes, I should be fixing it, since the plunger was there. She then left in the middle of the conversation. She must have taken about 30 - 40 minutes to return. I was about to leave back for my room when she came to tell me that she had gone to the room and fixed it herself, and told me it was hilarious that I could not take care of this myself. I was upset and I told her that she was raising her voice, and she said "No, I'm not!", and I again told her that this was her job, not mine. I ended up leaving after telling her to expect a formal complaint about this. When I came back to the room, it turns out that she was rude also to my wife, complaining that I had not been able to take care of the problem. She leaves the plunger in the room. The next morning we get woken up at 7:50 despite the fact that there's a "do not disturb" sign hanging. We were woken up because we "never returned the plunger", never mind our angry friend left it behind the night before. and never mind that everybody in the room is sleeping. The toilet plugged again on Saturday, and several calls from our room were not picked up, but were picked up once my wife used her cell phone. This time a very swet plumber came and took care of the problem without all that fuss. They have a lounge area in the 5th floor, with a pool table, and an arcade. The pool table does not have a triangle to arrange the balls, and the arcade ate some of the coins. These are minor issues. Most importantly, the toilet in the area was unusable because there was a 10 cm turd stuck in it which had not been cleaned by the time we left, so at least 3 days. The staff was rude, and condescending, and they certainly did not show consideration to our concerns and requests. The hotel seems to be decaying, which is not their fault. But what I consider their fault is their horrible attitude toward their guests. Do not stay there. The place is a dump. It was perfect. So clean and pretty. There is a community fire pit that the camp hosts light every night. One of the camp hosts even came down and played awesome guitar for us one evening! The camp hosts are some of the nicest people you will meet. Fresh coffee every morning as well. These are empty cabins so bring everything, sheets pillow, blanket, etc. They have charcoal grills you can pull over to your cabin. I would recommend a foam bed topper, the beds are quite uncomfortable, I think that would help. There is a playground for the kids, picnic tables at your cabin too. We didn't go in the water because it was FREEZING, but many brave people did. Highly recommend. We will be back!!!

The balcony is a decent size with table and 2 chairs. They could use a wiping. You can visibly tell the balconies do not get wash down periodically as there were huge and plenty spiderwebs with trash and dirt in them. They do not spray for bug as they were visible. Bring a can of out door bug spray. Beautiful lake view, beautiful beach.The bedspread was worn with stains but it was clean. The sliding door to the patio did not lock properly. Only 1 elevator for this massive size hotel. Plenty of carts to transport your luggage. The Comfort Inn Motel is connected to this hotel as well. Dining hall: buffet style. Plenty of options (powdered eggs, Canadian bacon, cereal, breakfast bars, fruit coctails, pancakes, waffles, muffins, coffee, juice, y3a, etc.) Dining hall is huge as it is shared by both hotels (Comfort Inn and Hamilton Inn). Its a bit dark and gloomy in the room. Hall ways are sometimes blocked by large cleaning carts and some of the house keepers look at you strange when you move them out your way. They do not have any room door signs for do not disturb. The swimming pool water was not clear. Very cloudy. The hot tub at one point had lots of suds. Its wasn't the cleanest area. Plenty of parking. Side and outter doors need better security as anyone could walk in off the parking lot or beach and enter the facility. Desk Service (3 women). They are not the friendliest. The supervisor is the worst of them all. She appeared to be very bossy and boarderline unprofessional to her coworkers. They talk to you like you did something wrong if you ask a question. They were all well dresses and groomed. Again, they should not be the face of the resort with bad atritudes. The hotel is walking distance to the Ferry that you will take to Mackinac Island. All the hotels are next door to one another (like the Las Vegas strip) so everything in walking distance (2-4 blocks). Shopping, activites and restaurants are also walking distance in this same area. They hotel had lots of guest as it seems to stay very busy. Overall, I would stay again if 1 or 2 other hotels were not available as I now know what to expect here at the Hamilton. The owner just need to invest and address a few minor and cosmetic details and it could easily be a 5-star hotel. Due to the flaws identified, the price needs to come down a bit and should never be over $160 a night. I paid $217 - $237 a night.
