I go to Colonie Center regularly, as I get my nails done at Angeleah Nails. It is well maintained and dog friendly with a nice food court on the upper level. Also, with some good snack options. I am a creature of habit and always stop in at Starbucks for my drink inside of the Barnes and Nobles bookstore. I oftentimes go to Macys as well as Sephora for my beauty products. Colonie Center in my opinion is just the right size and not too overcrowded. Love it! read more

Our favorite mall in the area. It is clean the rest rooms are plentiful and there is a nice size family rest room with breastfeeding stations! There are new play rooms available and soon to come an adventure park. The movie theater is the best in the area. There are little car carts to rent that kids can sit in to be occupied while someone pushes. Parking is always tight by the movie theater side but plentiful elsewhere around the mall. read more

I want to share my unexpectedly awesome experience at this location, thanks to an incredible employee named Kristina, who was visiting from Massachusetts. She is a training manager, and honestly, Five Below is lucky to have her. Here's what happened: By mistake, I accepted a 19-item DoorDash shop for Five Below--thinking it was Five Guys. I dreaded it. My last three Five Below shops at other locations were awful. I'm a professional shopper, and in those stores, items were scattered with no clear layout. It was stressful and time-consuming. But this time, I called ahead to the Colonie Center location to ask if someone could assist me. To my surprise, Kristina herself answered the phone. She was kind, calm, and immediately understood my dilemma. When I arrived, she personally guided me through the shop--something she absolutely didn't have to do. She was beyond helpful and made the experience seamless. Since DoorDash gave me 30 minutes to complete the shop, Kristina used that time to walk me through the store layout and explain how everything was organized. Colonie center is located close to interstate 87 and 90 on wolf road which is the place to be for shopping. Colonie Center was recently renovated which included a family lounge facility to provide nursing rooms, changing stations, and a television lounge for shoppers with young children, while food court, and seating areas received modern updates. Colonie Center has been ranked as the Capital Region's 'Best Of' Shopping Center for 12 years in a row, based on a Times Union readers' poll. Colonie Center has over 100 specialty stores which include Boscov's, Macy's, L.L. Bean, P.F. Chang's, Cheesecake factory and Wholefoods to name a few. Used to thoroughly enjoy Colonie Center versus the other big guy across the way. But after the past two experiences there with a Kiosk business trying to lie and cheat their way into you purchasing a generic flat iron. They are aggressive and theives. They lied about every single thing that came out of their mouths. Sat my daughter down, curled her hair and when they realized we just were not interested in spending $200 on a flat iron, they straightened half of her hair and left the other curly so she looked like an ass. That is just mean. They were foreigners and I just did not appreciate the lying. Colonie Center is a good mall to have near by. They have a decent array of shops, department stores, food options, movie theater etc. There is ample parking, assuming you are willing to walk a little, so it is easy to get in and out. This mall is small and easy to navigate, easy to walk from end to end, but you may not find everything you need. There is no longer any type of electronics store, and there are no high-end stores, if that is what you are looking for. I often pop in to go to Torrid, or the post office, get some deals at the Christmas Tree Shop, there is also a defensive driving class that is held here. The movie theater is also nice to have. I do think they need to do some things to keep up with the ever growing Crossgates near by. Add some new stores to replace the large abandoned Sears, add entertainment perhaps, and add more that just a couple chain restaurants. Until then, Colonie Center is a quick in-and-out type of mall. Crossgates would be a better choice for a large variety of shops, food, entertainment, and a fun night out. read more

So much can change in a decade. The last time I reviewed Colonie Center, the movies hadn't arrived, the kids play space was still a feature, and Friendly's occupied a space on the first floor. Now, I find myself at Colonie Center on an almost weekly basis, but it's not to shop in the mall. No, it's to pick up groceries at the Whole Foods which occupies a corner of what once was the Sear's. Periodically, I'll pop in to take care of an errand at the US Post Office. Once I even visited the Spectrum Cable office upstairs, and that's when I signed up for phone service over the cable internet lines running into my house. That was a pretty cool stop at the mall. Less cool are some of the renovations and improvements to the food court. The design was beautiful, but some of the finishes weren't terribly well considered. I noticed within the first week that the upholstery of the banquets was stained from food spills. Overall, I think it's a good thing that the Capital Region has two large malls within a few minutes drive of each other. It keeps competition high, and that's key to making sure neither palace of gross consumerism ends up falling back on its laurels. But Colonie Center remains more of a traditional mall. Beyond the movies, there's not much to do besides eat and shop. Every now and again, there's some kind of event in the atrium. There was some huge Pokemon thing a while back. I've seen a yoga day. There was one unfortunate afternoon when that space was filled with some kind of cute flying rodents being sold to wide eyed kids, who couldn't possibly predict what an awful idea it might be to bring one of those creatures home. More than anything else, I want Colonie Center to continue to thrive so that Whole Foods continues to have a place at the corner of Central Avenue and Wolf Road. I will never step foot in this place again. I was so infuriated, I was about to snap. The place was overly crowded and people had no respect for people's personal space. I was sitting down at the couch area outside of H&M and there was this older hag with no manners who cut across me so close that she touched me. It's the equivalent of climbing on top of someone to get thru as opposed to walking around. She didn't need to do that. She could of went around and not touched me but she went out of her way to cut across in front as I was sitting. She avoided eye contact because she knew what she did. That was so vile. It ruined my day. Also, there are dogs everywhere barking. The parking lot was packed with reckless drivers who have no regard for people. All the people who gave this place a negative are spot on. My friend wanted to leave the stuff at Sephora and purchase it online. Never again will we come here. I do not recommend this place. read more

Colonie Center is a nice alternative to Crossgates. This mall has been updated over the years and now feels more modern. CC features a nice selection of shopping, plus a large multi-floor Macy's. The movie theater above the food court is great, it's hard to imagine a time when this mall was without a cinema. Food court has been updated over the last decade and there are many options to please all palettes. The mall also features Cheesecake Factory, PF Chang's and a couple of other restaurants. There are many comfy seating areas spread throughout the mall with televisions, the perfect spot to leave your shopping companion if he needs a break. The mall is clean and well kept up. read more

Colonie Center is a very good mall, though not NJ style. But then we live in Upstate, and NJ and NYC have elements we thankfully don't have. It has LL Bean, a nice Macy's, and a Boscov's, plus smaller stores catering mostly to teenie boppers. The Christmas Tree Shop is a great store for a variety of less expensive items. Fun place to shop and for a family to go. They have a play area for younger kids (read kindergartners and belowish) which is nice for parents to sit around in. Very few original stores are still here, the only three I can think of are Sears, Macy's, and Hallmark. It's nice to walk around and not be pushed or feel like I am crowded by other people/kids. Parking can be tricky in the main area(s) but if you are willing to walk a little going towards the outer side of Macy's or any of the other anchor stores is helpful. Food court is typical mall food court, mostly chain restaurants. Nothing spectacular but decent seating and even has some near the window to look out onto Wolf Road. There are some sit down restaurants (Five Guys, Moe's just came in within the last year.) One nice feature that is here is the bathrooms have just been redone in the middle of the mall. There was a family room this area, last I remember, for families to bring in kids that need to be changed or children who are with their parent's and the parent can't take them to the respectable bathroom (parent's understand this roundabout thinking). I like this mall a lot. And it has certainly changed in the past 12 years. I remember coming here in the afternoon on a weekday in 2005 and visiting jewelry stores (I was looking for an engagement ring) and the place with deserted. There were also little pawn shops and other such things that frequently are found in dying malls. Not anymore! It is vibrant and full of interesting stores... especially for people who don't go to malls for clothes. There are lots of video game and electronic stores, a large bookstore, a pet store, a budget instrument store, the Christmas Tree store (love it), and a food court that seems to always have a diverse choice of food options. What a great turnaround story! It went from being a second class mall to the one we go to! The movie theater is better, there's Tesla chargers, LL Bean, and Whole Foods. The Macy's also seems nicer here. Ample parking now that Sears is gone. I even enjoy what they've done with the mall itself. Colonie Center is an solid mall. It isn't very big, but it is clean and has some good stores. The security guards here are ridiculous. They are rude and terrible at their jobs. They threatened to kick me out of the mall because I was talking too loud, I'm not joking. Later that day these two groups of kids got into a fight and nothing happened to them. The movie theater here is nice, but the workers are insufferable. The food court is now terrible they replaced Taco Bell with Super Taco and they got rid of Nathan's. This is my go-to mall when I need a large shopping center. I find that the people tend to be less rude, the shops are rarely overrun (I do try to avoid going during the holiday season) and the movie theater is the best mainstream option in the area. My primary complaints about Colonie Center are the food options (I don't expect much, which is exactly what they offer - not much) and the bizarre layout and escalator/stair/elevator placement. I don't understand why they've laid it out the way they have. They have all the stores I want to shop at and they are convenient to get to, whether by bus or by car. For anyone who complains about the lack of parking, there is *always* parking available on the Macy's side of the store. I know that people are vying for the close spaces, but I just don't understand the mentality of not wanting to walk into the mall, when you'll be walking the entire time you're inside the mall. They claim to offer free wifi, but I have never been able to get connected. I can find the connection, but the login screen doesn't work. I'm not sure why they need me to log in, since it's mall-wide and free for everyone, but... meh... I don't go to the mall to browse the internet. Even though Colonie Center is the mall without a curfew on teenagers, teens are not their primary demographic. With the exception of the movies, you're unlikely to encounter a gang of teenagers and, if you do, they tend to be respectful and minding their own business. I don't find this to be the case at the other mall. The lounge areas are cool, but I've found that they're almost always populated by (old?) men, waiting for their wives. The televisions placed in most of them make it difficult to sit and have a conversation or even just to pull your things together. I tend to opt for the benches scattered around rather than the "watch sports until wifey is done shopping" areas. All in all, they have a bookstore, my stylist, the clothing store I prefer, the best mainstream theater in the area, a post office that's open on the weekends, a decent coffee shop, two game stores and a Radio Shack AND they're on an easy busline. Albany takes its malls seriously. On a rainy Saturday these places are packed. Come the snow season - fugetaboutit... While not as pleasurable as the larger and more easily assessable Crossgates Mall a decent shopping experience can be had here - once you get in. The traffic is busy - very busy - in the surrounding area. Parking on rainy weekends can be a nightmare as you are challenged for spots. Anchor stores include Macy's & Sears. A nice sized Barnes and Noble provides a much needed relaxed browsing area if a shopping break is required. Regal Cinemas are on-site as well. The Food Court is boringly predictable. Restaurants include the overrated Cheesecake Factory and P.F. Chang's. Again - once you enter - Colonie Center is fine however larger and more interesting / comfortable shopping experiences can be found elsewhere. read more

Middle aged women in minivans are crazy this time of year (Christmas 2008). Cut you off in the parking lot, glare at you, hoover around parking spots and pounce like a cat on prey. I'm making dipping and seasoning oils as Christmas Gifts this year and I wanted to see if I could find some bottles at the Christmas Tree Shop. The worst thing about the Christmas Tree Shop is having to go there. Then, the people that shop there, followed by the low quality garbage the sell there followed by the horrifying fake cinnamon the is currently giving my diarrhea. The mall itself is lovely inside. Beautiful tile and fireplaces. They have all the standard stores and shops. I think this is the best mall in the area if you like that kind of thing. read more

I rarely go to Crossgates anymore, unless I need to go to Best Buy or the Apple store. Otherwise, the Macy's at Colonie Center has more in stock (at least in the women's and home departments, where I shop) and the Barnes and Noble blows away the Borders competition at Crossgates -- open until 11pm: that's my kind of bookstore. The biggest problem with Colonie Center is the parking -- the entrances on Wolf Rd. funnel you to the areas with the least amount of spaces. And, that section of Wolf Rd. is awful during the holidays because Toys R Us plugs up the traffic. I just learned that the Colonie Center post office is open until 8pm on Saturday night. In the interest of full-disclosure: I don't much care for malls. I'm an in-and-out sort of girl and crowds make me nauseous. That said: given the choice between Colonie Center and Crossgates, Colonie is a clear winner. The stores I enjoy most are all here: Barnes & Noble, Sephora, GameStop, Jay St., Victoria's Secret, Macy's, fye and Charming Charlie's. The movie theatre is also newer and has roomier, more comfortable seats to enjoy. Only the lackluster food court keeps it from 5 stars. Until Crossgates puts in a bookstore or fixes their schizophrenic fire alarms, I'm sticking with Colonie. Less hustle and bustle, a lot more peace of mind. read more

I love Colonie Center. This is also the only mall that my mom (who really hates malls) will venture into. It is usually far less crowded than Crossgates and has a lighter, airier feel to it, with more natural sunlight and open space.
