I read about this 153 year old independent department store that's been in downtown Albany for all those years. So I went in on a Thursday afternoon around 4 PM. I was greeted warmly by a staff member asking if I needed any help. I said I'm just looking around for now. I went around to look in the men's section. I saw some very nice slippers excellent price $7.99. Good quality slippers as well. I saw a nice collection of flannel shirts near the front of the store when you come in through the entrance. Great value $10.69. I also saw jeans Levi's jeans for men $9.99 a pair. Also some black jeans from another company good quality only $14.99. I also picked up some socks. The gentleman checking me out was very friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend coming into this department store. They have quality items at great prices read more

This place is fantastic. They're community oriented and willing to help out not for profit charities. It's a family run, community responsive store, still making it in downtown Albany. The people are helpful and knowledgeable and best of all, there's no Self-Checkout line. Can't beat the personal touch. After spending $52.00 in Lodge's last week, I returned to exchange a pair of leggings. I had placed the leggings in a nice, cloth bag, and walked into the store, over to the register. When I approached the tall, Caucasian, male cashier, I took the leggings out the cloth bag, showed him my receipt, and requested an exchange or refund. The man told me I could only get an exchange due to not having the packaging the leggings came in. I then took back my cloth bag and went to retrieve a different pair of leggings. The man then told me I had to leave the cloth bag at the register. Figuring I would make things quicker and easier, I folded up the cloth bag and put it in my large pocketbook, pulling the strap over the front of my pocketbook, closing it completely. The man insisted that I take the cloth bag out my pocketbook, and leave it on the register. I declined and said that I had placed the bag securely in my pocketbook, so I didn't understand why I needed to take it out. The man said "it's store policy" for me to leave the bag on the register. But I said I was only going to quickly grab a different pair of leggings and rush right back. The man then exclaimed, "No! You can't do that!" I then said that I could just go exit the store, claim that I put the cloth bag in my car, while actually stuffing it right back into my pocketbook, and then return to the store and get the leggings. He says, "Yes, go put the bag in your car." Ultimately, however, I decided that exchanging the cheap leggings was not worth the hassle, so I left the store without doing the exchange, never to return. What an unpleasant experience. We bought 8 key copies at Lodges. Only 1 out of 8 keys worked at all. Tried to get a refund and they sarcastically informed us they don't give refunds on keys. Went to a local locksmith prior to returning the keys and they got all keys perfectly right the first time. Buyer beware. I wouldn't shop here for anything. Talked to manager who just parroted what the person who was unable to properly cut the keys said. They were sarcastic and dismissive (oh, well that's how we do it). All keys except one did not work at all despite many tries. Tried many times to get these to work. They suggested getting WD40. It's one thing to screw up, but to refuse to refund when you got 7 keys wrong is just total disrespect and a rip off. I would suggest taking your business to respectful people who actually deliver when they take your money. read more

I spent about 140$ at this store with a brand new credit card. Never used before. I have 2 credit cards from the same credit company and I've never had an issue with fraud. After making my purchase literally 18 minutes later my credit card company called me stating there were 2 transactions made at the same time. 1 purchase was from Lodges and the 2nd was for a purchase for 590$. My money was refunded by the fraud department provided by my credit card so atleast I got my money back. I had to go back to Lodges to exchange the uniforms I bought for my kid. When I went to exchange my purchase I walked over to the owner quietly and politely explained to her what happened. Showed her my receipt stamped with the time along with the time my fraudulent purchase was made. I told her I didnt want to point fingers but its not a coincidence that the 1st time I use my card was the same time it got compromised. The owner with out expressing any apology replied with ""So.... I dont understand why you are telling me this". I just told her I thought she should know there's funny business going on at her store and left. Now !!had i not woke up a Christian woman today I wouldve turned that nasty, old and unprofessional store into pieces. But I will make sure I report this to the better business burial along with a police report . The least she couldve offered was an apology and explain she doesn't understand what happened instead she replied with SO... ill never forget her face. I'll see you around. read more

This is a great resource in downtown Albany. They mainly sell the essentials here, nothing particularly fancy. I live in Center Square and often come downtown to eat or use the bike trail, so it's convenient for me to shop here. It saves me from having to pull my car out of it's space and the cost of gas just to look for a pair of socks. I've bought athletic shorts, gloves and a scarf here, all at very reasonable prices. Many of their men's items are Champion brand. The only thing that I do not like about this place is the hours. They're only open during the day, after 5 you're SOL, the fact that they're open on Saturday though is a miracle. read more

The staff are very friendly and helpful; although, they hovered around uncomfortably The store is a really great place to buy clothes, underwear, and socks, and the prices are reasonable. I got a pair of black Dickies jeans and was pleasantly surprised to find that the jeans had an extra "smartphone" pocket. This is not a fancy store; however, it is really a nice find and great to see that this store has been serving Albany for over a hundred years. UPDATE: Prices seem to have risen steeply. There must be a problem with theft because staff literally followed me around and asked me if I needed help way too many times. It made me feel uncomfortable, so I left and will shop elsewhere. read more

Came in today with my mom and godmother around 3-ish to pick up a couple of items nothing crazy. And not even 5 minutes into being in the store someone has followed us. A male coworker "acting" like he was on a phone call but watching us. We didn't say anything and continue shopping and I pick up a track suite I think might be cute and I bring it to my mother. As her and I are talking an older man behind the register asks me if I want to sit my items on the counter I say kindly no "thank you I'm still shopping". I know this is a tactic that stores use toward customers that they think are going to steal but in a non accusatory way. And I have this knowledge because I've worked in retail before. He then gets a bit snippy and says that if I'm not going to buy the item I should I put it back because I'm dragging it on the floor. At this point my mother is a bit peeved with the tone he was using. I continue shopping as I was before but my mother over hears the man saying something either to another customer or under his breath. At this point she is so upset she comes to me and my god mother one section over and is adamant that we pay for our things and leave. Also in this time a woman has also followed and/or observed us. We make our final decision on what we want and are waiting to be rung up. Unlike how we were treated, in a cold manner, the mad behind the register starts to strike a very animated conversation with my god mother. He may not have said it but you could tell that he was surprised that we all came together, guessing that he didn't see us all walk in together. I don't want to say that it was due to us being black and I really wish that it was just because the store is having a problem with theft. But the way that the staff made my mother and I feel and how they treated us was unacceptable. read more

This is a great place to shop. Their prices for men's clothing are not unbeatable, but they are quite competitive w/ Walmart and Target. Some people get creeped out by having sales staff wait on them w/o asking; that is very unfortunate at this store, because here the staff is almost unerringly helpful and knowledgeable. On Tuesdays Seniors (over 50 or 55, I forget which) get a 15% discount. There is a reasonably wide choice of products. This is also an excellent place to shop for kids - newborns and all the way up, again, that knowledgeable staff helps. read more
