Over $700/night. This place is essentially a $150/hotel. Threadbare towels, generic shower shampoo/conditioner/body wash, single ply toilet paper. Generic room on the "coveside" without any view or ambiance-- the room itself and hallway were undistinguishable from La Quinta or Holiday Inn. No parking to be found anywhere on Saturday in any of the lots; had to double park in the grass. I understand that the location and season are both key, but charge me triple the value price at youre still at $450/night. This was pretty disappointing for the staggering price we paid. read more

I waited a week to post this but am just as disappointed. There is a difference between historic and shabby. The old building has no AC or TV. No worries there. Very quaint. But room came with a fan that had dust all over it and balls of dust inside the cage. Bathtub had blue gel on tub and discolored shower curtain. Furniture was mismatched but painted as a college dorm in the 70's. Towels, glasses everywhere. We were told they were significantly understaffed. Dogs everywhere. No problem but would have been nice to know. Kids running down halls with creaking floors beginning by 7 am. Lots of families looked like they have been coming for years. Absolutely no justification for $750+/ night. That price is not uncommon in 4 or 5 star hotels. This was a 2 1/2 star. You've been advised! read more

Luxury price tag for motel-like feel. Every single aspect of the hotel was outdated and the service including the front desk people was abysmal. There were literally no amenities or toiletries in the tiny rooms. No AC, which wasn't an issue except we had to keep the windows open and there was a wedding going on both nights of our stay which kept us up all night with drunk people right outside our window. For this reason, I would not recommend if you have kids that you want to sleep. The bathroom was moldy, the beds were hard, and we had a hard time navigating around the room given this small size. I have stayed here at least 15 times and this was not The Colony Hotel I have loved. Service is not near the level of a motor inn. No towels in the room daily and had to request. Loud past midnight despite quiet time after 10 pm. Manager at check out was condescending and rude to my wife at checkout when discussing our concerns. For over $700 a night, you should be able to expect a good experience. We will never be staying again and this truly saddens me. read more

We have stayed here several times for July 4th. Always an awesome time, great location, attentive staff until this year, 2026! So many things went wrong. Our room was missing several items that I had to ask for, the bathroom sink was clogged (took 2 days before someone fixed it) housekeeping didn't make up our room after we were gone for over 6 hours. It was over 90 degrees out and with no AC our linens needed to be changed but we ended up having to sleep on those dirty sheets because they never made up the room. Mold on the shower curtain, 1 kleenex left fluffed in the empty box, ran out of pool towels for almost 2 hours, ran out of dishes at the buffet, no more linens on the tables, our silverware and glasses stuck to the table, We were booked and charged for a "Garden View" room....it should have been listed as "Standard" there was no garden it overlooked an overflow lot filled with dumpsters, tents and garbage. The screens were absolutely disgustingly dirty and because it was so hot you had to keep them open so the dirt and dead bugs flew into the room. The wicker furniture on the beautiful porch was showing significant signs of wear and needed to be either replaced or repainted. This is only a piece of what went wrong in one weekend. I am not one to leave bad reviews like this but when I tried to contact the Asst. Mngr. Leslie Sheppard 3 times by phone and John Martin, Managing Partner for Boughton Hotels with no return call or email....well that speaks volumes. They are under new management and it was made clear this past weekend that they are in it to make money at the expense of their guests. On July 3 at 6PM the lobby was filled with people who could not get into their rooms yet after checking in. There was a constant line of guests waiting to speak with the Front Desk Manager with complaints. It was a disaster of a weekend. I was told they were very busy....not sure if the 4th of July was a surprise to them or if no one saw how many guests they had at their property. "Very busy" is not an excuse for such an establishment. I did speak with both the Front Desk Manager and Assistant Manager but nothing was done, I was told "I'm sorry", that doesn't make things better! They need to realign their priorities because a happy guest brings more guests a guest who had to experience all the things we did, for the price we paid, they should at least have the courtesy to return a call or email. Beautiful Hotel. We have stayed here many times . Booked ocean front to see fireworks. That was our first mistake. We had no idea , "to keep in old world charm" there is no air conditioning, tv , coffee maker , but there is a dog area right below our peaceful balcony . The " Quiet" hours are NOT respected or enforced . The noise level makes resting and peacefulness impossible. Strongly suggest if peace and quiet is what your looking for, do not book this area . It's like being in the middle of a dog park/playground . Would prefer a tv to help drown out noise . Simple solution is to not return . Not for us any more. As others have mentioned, they also now charge for the buffet . Add gratuity , for a buffet , that i had to find and get my own coffee, which was the only responsibility of the server . Have been going here every year for almost 10 years and have LOVED it. However, after covid it was not the same as precovid and now with a new corporate buyout it has not gotten better but worse. Very few staff, and no more free buffet breakfast. Coffee is not available until 7:30am which is completely unacceptable given the demographic of the average age of the clientele. The menu no longer has grilled shrimp and is pretty limited with no difference in the menu items between lunch and dinner. Limited staff during dinner made for a long wait from time of ordering until check was served as one server has so many tables. The room cleaning was not up to it's usual snuff and the bedspread was full of holes even though the room was one of the most costly in the hotel. The pool towels were short bath towels and not the longer "pool towels". The good things are now they have a "beeper" to let you know your take out lunch order is ready if you order in the bar and want to eat by the pool. Also the pool attendant Dave is outstanding, I have never seen the pool so well taken care of or had an attendant so "attentive" to guests needs by the pool. Not sure if I will go again next year or try somewhere new, sad to say but the "buyout" made the place worse. read more

I gave it 5 stars because where we stayed at Coveside (not main building) was spotlessly clean plus the hotel allowed us to keep our dog with us over Thanksgiving weekend. The room was clean, did not smell like deodorizers which many places do to cover pet smells instead of cleaning them so I like that, there was a full door that opened to a small balcony which I loved for fresh air as well. The room is large and easily fit our large travel crate. The space could also easily fit a cot or air bed for extra bedtime room, it could also easily fit a baby crib, playpen and stroller plus it has a minifridge for leftovers under a cabinet. No issues with WIFI or TV. The facility is well maintained and the grounds where we walked our dog were well kept. I didn't see a doggie station but my companion did so they have them. There is a market on site that has nice coffee in the mornings, a grab and go section plus all sorts of snacks and drinks. Location is pretty and safe, it looks like there is a very nice seating space behind the market for warm weather. I would go again. read more

We have been coming to the beautiful colony hotel for at least 5-7 years now. It has always been an exceptional experience however they've recently made changes to what is offered with your stay. No longer does your stay include their amazing breakfast buffet overlooking the water. now it is $19 midweek and $29 on the weekend. That was just one of the many things that made staying at The Colony so special and great. Currently you can choose coffee or tea with a muffin from a side room and relax in the open main room. unfortunately the weather was horrible upon our stay so relaxing outside was not really an option. There was a young family that were also choosing the complimentary muffin option but one of the little girls was saddened that there were no more blueberry muffins left. At the very least I do feel like they should have been refilled as necessary. I personally saw only a handful of guests entering the buffet area. The competition just down the street, The Nonantum is in an equally beautiful spot, often gives better deals on their stays and their buffet is still included with your stay. If I had known prior to booking at The Colony I would no longer have chosen to stay there. My husband mistakenly took a newspaper that was by the front desk and read it over while we sat by the fire. There was no sign indicating there was a charge for it. he actually left it near the couch while we went up to our room. Thought it was free...no. Upon checkout we had incurred a $4 charge for it . Overall not a big deal but they shouldn't be shady about it. Place a small sign stating that newspapers are $4. Simple. Not the friendliest front desk crew upon checkin but checkout we had an older gentleman that I recognized from many other visits in the past. He's wonderful. Still a pretty hotel but for future stays in kennebunkport Maine we will be choosing a different hotel that isn't trying to nickel and dime every little thing. read more

Went to hear Janet and her band by the pool and had dinner. We first had the truffle chips which were wonderful. They were served warm and crispy with a lovely spicy dip. Next, we had a couple of different types of salads, both were delicious. I had grilled chicken on mine which was tender juicy and very tasty. The cocktails and drinks were great! The music lasted from 4 to 7 PM. They were families there with children call them dancing around the band Which was very cute. A wonderful way to spend the afternoon. The Colony Hotel is a beautiful old hotel. The view is beyond and grounds are perfect. We had a Cove Side room, newer and upbeat furnishings. The carpeting was badly stained and dirty. It was obvious there had been some type of wall decor above the beds that was removed which left very visible holes in the walls. The coffee area in the room with Nespresso machine was never cleaned or replenished. The coffee mugs had coffee left in the mugs from previous guests. Really disgusting!!! The front desk staff was neither friendly nor knowledgeable. All questions were met with a blank stare and no effort to assist with answers. When I booked the room the rate was clear but was charged much more. I spoke to Janelle the Manager and she had no concern about the change in charges. She assured me it would be looked into and when we checked in it would be resolved. Upon check in , no one was available and every time I asked to speak to someone was given the same answer. At no time during 4 day stay was anyone helpful in addressing my concern! Each morning it was difficult to get a muffin or replenishing of coffee or sugar and milk for coffee. The Colony needs to replace all front desk staff and be sure that guests are receiving what they are paying for. Dirty carpeting and used coffee mugs are totally unacceptable. I've been vacationing in Kennebunkport for over 40 years and never thought The Colony would decline as it has. read more

We had our rehearsal dinner and welcome party for our wedding at the Colony last year and are so happy we did. The venue itself is beautiful and a wonderful location to welcome guests to Kennebunkport at. We planned the event with Heather and her team, who were very professional and pleasant to work with. We highly recommend working with them! They helped us coordinate where at Colony to host the events, when to host them, what decorations to have, and what food and drinks to have. We had a few guests with food allergies and dietary restrictions, and they were very respectful and accommodating of that, which we greatly appreciated. At the rehearsal dinner, we had a buffet, and at the welcome party we had passed hors d'oeuvres. All was delicious! And the staff who worked the event were great, as well. Thank you! read more

We stayed at the Colony Hotel over Fourth of July weekend. It's a historic hotel that offered a great pool, lovely main building, and delicious food. Unfortunately, our room's decor and comfort level did not match the feel of the main building. We were given a room in the Galland House, and it was very much like a cabin - complete with knotted pine paneling, and some of the ugliest furniture and window treatments I have ever seen. It looks like it hasn't been updated in at least 50 years. The door to the Galland House was unlocked, and made us feel like we were staying in a motel. We also heard a thumping, mechanical noise throughout the night. The Colony Hotel has a lot going for it, but there is also a lot of room for improvement. I would recommend that guests investigate which rooms are the nicest before booking. read more

We come here to dine by the pool with a view of the water every year. This year they are just not ready. After a 5.5 hour drive due to terrible traffic, we were really looking forward to this break w our kids. Had to return my cocktail and should have done it again as it was still wrong, even with a long wait for the order. Four dinners ordered: 1.5 came out, two wrong orders came a few minutes later, total confusion, server never jotted anything on a pad though he said he put it into the system, promises we'd be out in 5-6 minutes, then promises we'd be after another order we should have been ahead of. 4 cooks in the kitchen, none seemed overly stressed. After a promise of 25% off and another 30 minutes, we told the server we were leaving. Dine n dash? Yes. Enough was enough. I think he said "you should." What a bummer. read more

We had our wedding here this past weekend and it was well worth every penny. Outside of it being a beautiful location and venue, the staff is what makes it 5 Stars. Caite the wedding planner was amazing. She is well organized, and responded quickly, especially the week of the wedding. Any questions I had were answered. The rest of the staff was also top notch. Their positive and bubbly personalities were contagious, even during stressful moments the days before the wedding. We especially loved Busiswa, who attended to my family the day of wedding and the night before, and our server Richard, who attended to my husband and I during our reception. The rest of the staff was incredible as well but we unfortunately did not get on a name to name basis with them, yet! The venue has gorgeous views and beautiful landscaping in the garden. Everywhere was clean and well maintained. The rooms feature beautiful floral wallpaper, perfect for pictures. I also appreciated the two types of pillows provided, one firmer and one softer on each bed space. Ideal for every person's preference. Upon arrival we were offered champagne (husband declined and I'm still unsure as to why lol). All of our guests raved about how nice the hotel was and how great the food was. Personally was shocked by how big the portions were on top of the how high quality the food was. The complimentary breakfast was wonderful. My husband won't stop talking about the breakfast sausages and how much he loved them. I will be recommending this place to everyone for years to come. This hotel is functional and great if you want an old Maine feel but that's about it. Honestly, you may as well sleep in the hallway. Doors, walls and floors are paper thin and the neighbor coming home will wake you up. No sight of blackout curtains... feels like you're literally outside when the sun comes up. Sink had a bad leak, no tv, fridge was junk, no amenities at all (had the ocean waterfront suite). Most importantly, the local staff (not imported guys... they were awesome) is extremely rude. Paul blart the mall cop legit turned off the bar TV with 2 minutes left in the NBA finals. They also poured water on the fire for the wedding party when "time was up". Didn't allow the attendees of the wedding to enjoy the "resort" at all, if the time that was paid for has passed and literally evicted us from parts of the hotel. Will never stay here again. Even if the wedding is held on property. As you can tell from my review... I'm extremely disappointed, especially at a price point of $500 per night and a cocktail price of $12 since this is my first ever yelp review. read more

Last year I took my daughters to the Marine Room for drinks and food. We started by ordering drinks at the bar. The menu said one price and we were charged another. I asked and the bartender told me that he charged me the correct amount and the menu was wrong. I called the next day and was told the menu was correct and the bartender had overcharged me. Why do I mention it now? My daughters went today with a group of women. The drinks they ordered were listed as $15 on the menu. They were charged $17. Apparently this is common practice. Just stayed two nights for a business event. Food and service were outstanding. My room was spotless clean and the bathroom was as well. All of the staff were really working hard to make things nice. I had a particularly nice conversation with Brenda. She took such pride in her work not to mention the hotel itself. Certainly made me feel welcome. You have to understand this is 100+ year old building. If you were looking for super modern amenities and a big screen TV in your room this is not your spot. But if you're looking for a classic grande style hotel, with a comfortable room and turn of the century charm. This is the spot. The location is right across from the bluff. Love, love, love this place. We spent two nights here and it was fabulous. The room was spacious, breakfast was great. The lobby was inviting especially with the fireplace. Lots of outdoor seating whether in the yard or on the porch. The library was cozy. They just don't build nice hotels like this anymore. It was a real treat staying here. Dined (and that's being generous) last night at the "Mariner's Buffet." Hands down the most over priced ($85 per) mess of horrible cheap food we've ever had. The only Mariner things were the one over cooked lobster we were allowed and mussels that were so overdone the meat was out of the shells. No other seafood; pasta was blah, potatoes resembled white paste. Foods were either dying for salt or so over salted we couldn't eat it. Beef and lamb roasts grisly. No cheeses, crackers, etc. Dead salad bar. Have never had such an expensive terrible dinner. Never ever again. NO STARS. I had to give one star just to get this posted. Obviously this corporation takes advantage of tourists who keep coming; we live here and should have known better. read more

Service staff is pretty new this season, and we have found everyone to be very nice at the Marine Room. The wings and mussels are delicious. The fish tacos and sandwich are bland plus the fish has some bones in it. The pulled pork sandwich is much better. Their sweet potato tots are the best around. Too bad vegetable appetizers and vegetarian entrees are scarce. Drinks are priced fairly and done pretty well. The view by the porch and pool is spectacular. They have music in the summer from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday. Not always the best talent, but the musicians try. Locals like to sit by the pool and drink, eat and listen to the music. Where they placed the musicians this season is much better than last season because so many more tables can see the musicians. There is a covered, but open, outside area, also. This was my first time staying here and my last. If you like a very old school vacation with quality time with your family and not a lot of interruptions then this place is for you! No tv, no fridge, WiFi that doesn't work, no cell service and no a/c (which wasn't that bad at night because it gets very cool being You're so close to the water) which some people probably appreciate, personally I don't. If at least the WiFi worked like it was supposed to I would have gotten some work done on my laptop or phone but being we were in one of the bigger rooms on the outskirts of the hotel, the WiFi wouldn't reach us which was ridiculous especially considering we were in the part of the hotel with the bigger/more expensive rooms?! The people and staff were friendly, no issues there. The food I felt was overpriced as far as the dinner buffet, not enough options and prime rib was ok at best but hey if you like lobster then it's worth it I'm just not a big seafood eater if you couldn't tell by now. When we were checking out we were hit with a bill for about 150$ in drinks from the bar which we never had and I think some food items too, we got it taken off but it shouldn't have been there to begin with. Next year I will do my typical islandy/tropical vacation with warmer weather and a ton of the typical amenities. read more

I am in hell right now. This hotel gives The Overlook from The Shining a run for its money. It looks just like The Overlook of 1980 and everywhere I turn are horrors. I am stuck in the world's smallest, shabbiest, hottest, and most humid room. It's dirty too. We're here for a wedding. We booked in March for an August stay. This was the only room available. No air conditioning, ripped sheets, dirty doors, door handles, light switches, headboard, and telephone. I asked the front desk if the bedspread and blanket were changed for laundered ones between guests. I got three different answers. The blanket and bedspread are now residing on the closet floor. The room is so hot and humid. All we have is a dirty ceiling fan to swirl the soupy air. The fan has a one inch chain that you have to climb on the bed to reach. There's no exhaust fan in the bathroom. When you take a shower your entire room is filled with steam. The bathroom fixtures are covered in water. I had to open the window, the room door, and run the ceiling fan at maximum for 30 minutes to dry the room. I would leave but there isn't another vacancy anywhere in town. I bought Clorox wipes to clean everything, so whoever gets this room after me, you're welcome. Btw, since you have to keep the windows open all night long, you're treated to all night revelers' hoots and hollers. The restaurant sucks. There's no TV in the room. No ice machine. Refrigerator rental is $15/night. Their excuse for running Camp Crystal Lake? We're historic! All for $329/night. Stephen King should write a book about The Colony Hotel - a true horror. read more

Just spent a weekend here with the kids. The good: clean rooms with cold a/c; great pool area with a good pool menu; free breakfast buffet is one of the best around. The not so good: you are forced to choose between the smaller rooms in the old wing, which have an ocean view but no a/c (trust me, you will want the a/c in the summer!) or the east wing rooms across the street, which have solid a/c but no views. Also this is an old hotel so sound travels and you do not want to be on the bottom floor where people come out of the bar to use the restrooms. Honestly the rating would be higher if the room rates were 50% lower, but for $449 a night the rooms need to be a lot better. I know this is a historic hotel but nothing close to the Ahwahnee in Yosemite (or even the Fairmont Santa Monica) and not even close to the quality you find for comparable prices at a St. Regis, RC, FS, etc. Apparently the owners are content to live off the reputation and location, and sadly this is one of the best options in the area. read more

We stayed at the colony Inn in mid October on a Thursday night. The weather was beautiful and I was surprised to see the pool still open. The hotel is old but meticulously maintained. The rooms have a shabby chic decor mixing old world with modern amenities. There is no AC or television in the rooms in the main house. This was not an issue for us as it was a cool evening and we don't generally watch TV while away, but if you stay there mid-summer, I could see it being an issue (maybe - because they have nice coastal breezes). The age of the hotel lends to hearing your neighbors above, below and beside you - I'm guessing there isn't a lot of insulation. Again it didn't bother us, but another couple we were with heard a lot of noise in their room. We had dinner in their restaurant. It was good, but nothing to write home about. Finally a nice buffet breakfast with everything you could want and more was served to all guests and the breakfast dining area has wonderful views. This rating relates to the Food and Beverage on property not the hotel room accommodations. Specifically the Mariner Room menu and poolside services. Of note, the previously offered Friday night buffet I would give higher marks to as it was a stand out in the area and hope they will be able to offer it again in the future. The views on the property overlooking the Atlantic Ocean are stunning and offer clear views of the water in all it's Maine glory -- something that will be enjoyed throughout your meal. Additionally, being there for a sunset is even an added bonus. Overall, the food, beverages, and service at their restaurant on property are just average. On this most recent visit I had a grapefruit cosmo that although a little interesting from its different take on the classic lacked a robust craft cocktail appeal and rather bland. The cup of chowder was thick, a little salty, but pleasant. If you like very thick chowder, then you will enjoy this. Served with the classic old fashioned chowder crackers. We also had the lobster roll with French fries. The roll was closer to a brioche hot dog roll which was buttered. The roll was fluffy and tasty, but the reason I describe it that in proportion to the lobster meat it somewhat overtook the lobster. The lobster was fresh and lightly mixed with mayo and celery. It was good, but in the big roll, I just wished there was a bit more of it to be in proportion with the bread. The French fries were forgettable food service french fries, although they were served hot and crispy so they were prepared nicely. The service -- I could see our server was a bit in the weeds covering several tables and was doing his best. It seemed like he was trying to cover it all in his section and there was no help in sight for him. He did all the service for all the tables and was busing them as well. With a more open seating process parties generally could be sitting all around the same time and it was up to the server to deal with it. The service was friendly and competent, just seemed a little overwhelmed. I would give a complete pass for this in the post-COVID world but being to this property on several occasions over the past few years the service is sporadic. Management should pay closer attention to offering 5 star service to match the classic New England hotel they have in the Colony Hotel property. I would recommend giving it a try -- the nostalgic feel of this classic hotel and great ocean view is worthy of a visit whether you live nearby or just visiting the area. read more

We had an amazing stay at the Colony. What a beautiful and tranquil place to relax! The service was wonderful, front desk staff and wait staff were very friendly and helpful. Included breakfast was very good. This place is the perfect spot to take in unbelievable views of the ocean, swim in the saltwater pool or take a short walk to the private beach. The adorable town is a doable walk and you can also rent bikes for $5 per hour and ride to town or take a ride along Ocean Ave that the hotel is located on. The grounds at this place are so idyllic. You can set up shop anywhere in a chair, read a book, stare at the ocean and be in heaven. Rooms were pleasant, had updated bathrooms, clean and did the trick. I could care less about no tv I'm not in Maine to sit in the room and watch tv. It is cool at night so no AC was not an issue for us. There are dogs around which I don't mind as a dog lover but something to keep in mind for people that don't like dogs. I found owners to be very responsible for their own dogs. Overall, this was one of my favorite experiences I've had at a hotel! I highly recommend it. read more

I'd be tempted to give 5-stars because they are so extremely dog friendly here... We brought Ben-Boy here and he was welcomed with open arms. Its a beautiful, tranquil setting. What you would expect for a nice hotel along the Maine Coast. Adirondack chairs, nice pool, dining area, the Marine Bar was cool, very rustic. Yeaahhhhh, Yeahhhhhh. The walls are paper thin, that was one of the drawbacks. It can get kind of loud, if you are a light sleeper... We had a room facing the road / the front and heard everything, were woken up early both mornings... Also, there are no fridges in the room, you can only do so much with a small ice bucket. It certainly is a nice place, only a couple minor quirks which restricted the overall rating. Yeahhhhhh, yeaaahhhhhh.. Big time, big time. read more

Spent only one night here, that's my only complaint. When making the reservation we were told that the main hotel has no AC or tv....to preserve the historic aspect of the hotel. We opted for one of the two guest houses they offer...directly next to the main building. They have a more "cottage" atmosphere. Newer, so clean, nice bathrooms, and pet friendly...As is the whole resort. Great pool, bar, restaurant, and breakfast buffet. They have bikes available to use for no charge. I loved everything about this place. Cannot beat the views. I will definitely be back soon! And for longer! read more

Lovely lunch today at pool patio . I had grilled shrimp on a fresh green salad , came with 3 jumbo shrimp. Server was awesome , Mnesti.

There were some cons of this place that aggravated me over the trip but for the most part I did love this place. I think if I had paid for our trip I might feel differently. Good: Beautiful spot and beautiful hotel. The pool was perfect when it was heated at night. The breakfast buffet was delightful with wonderful staff. Lots to do in the area, a great time. Bad: The wifi came in and out so when I wanted to check email or look up a restaurant it took me forever. The cell phone range was pretty much non-existent. The food at the hotel isn't worth how much it costs. I was also pretty surprised I had to ask them to turn on the lights for the pool at 8pm one of the nights, seemed dangerous to have the pool so dark. Also as others noted the walls ARE very thin, you can hear everything and somehow all the noise outside echoes into the rooms. Overall the place was nice, I'd just recommend they work on some of upgrades. read more

A beautiful 100 year old wooden, steepled "old Maine luxury" hotel on a bluff overlooking the ocean. This traditional place remains mostly unchanged - which is how it should be. It's Maine Casual... (nobody really dresses up unless its for one of the many weddings happening on the grounds). It's quiet and relaxing. There is a large dining room with a wrap-around porch overlooking the sea where the included-breakfast is served. It's a great way to start your day and it stays open until 10am. Casual... even swim suits with cover ups work there. The extremely large salt-water pool also overlooks the ocean. The pool is surrounded by locally-made wooden chaise lounges with blue upholstered cushions and thick white towels dispensed by one of the uniformed pool boy. They serve lunch right there poolside at the Marine bar below umbrella tables (lunch could be better, but nobody can beat the view). One of the young waiters meandering through the guests sunning would be happy to bring you something from the bar. The Colony beach is a very short walk downhill. It is directly adjacent to the Kennebunkport Beach. It has some nice sand but wear your flip flops, because you are going to walk over about 10' of ocean-washed stones to get to it. (which is no big deal...) Dogs? It is a Dog Friendly hotel... and you'll see plenty of well-behaved dogs around. Rooms - OK... now, before you freak out, the large main building (the one with all the views) is not air conditioned and there are not any TV's in those rooms. RELAX. You are on vacation in MAINE. Normally there is a nice, cool breeze flowing through your open windows and the ceiling fan and portable fans do a great job of keeping you cool even in the summers (truth be told... we've been staying there for about 14 consecutive summers... and i've been warm at night maybe a total of two nights in all that time). What? No TV. You'll get over it. Read a book. If you really can't handle the withdrawal of the idiot box - there is a TV room off the main lobby. Also - if you just HAVE to have your TV and A/C - they DO have a couple of adjacent buildings that offer rooms with those amenities built right in, but you'll miss the amazing views. I'm telling you... I'm a TV Addict and our home Central A/C is cranked to 69 degrees... yet Maine is all about "the way life should be" - and that's at The Colony Hotel - pool side or on one of the big porches with a drink in your hand, a book by the other and your sweetie by your side. Give this place a go. Rooms are avaialable at a variety of price points - from high to low, but they all include the amazing grounds, huge porches, the pool, the dining room, the lobby, etc... No AC, no TV, spotty WiFi, poor breakfast, unfriendly staff (especially at reception they were pretentious and not friendly), pool was out of order. The location is nice and the building is charming but it is outdated and overall not worth the money read more

This was a 9th wedding anniversary trip, and my husband and I both enjoyed our visit so much because of The Colony Hotel, that we agreed to return again back to Maine for our . This was the best hotel that I have been to in a very, very long time...and I can say that this is as good as it gets!!! Service is friendly and very attentive, right our from checking-in with the offer of a champagne cocktail and the fireplace filling the reception area with a warmth and glow Our hotel room itself was very clean, soft comforter, nice and crisp clean sheets , and it felt just like being home, only better. This hotel has beautiful wood floors, crown molding, lovely window dressings, we had an awesome ocean view, and best of all, to top it all off, a bath tub !!! Breakfast is included, and was again the best I have ever had. Blueberry pancakes were recommended, and although I am not a big pancake lovers, this was excellent. Don't skip the has browns and crispy bacon. Top quality breakfast, better than expected for a hotel. Thank You Colony Hotel . See you again in Oct 2019 read more
