We had a great stay at this inn. It was far enough out of town to ensure that we had a peaceful stay. Arti, the innkeeper, was AMAZING. She was full of recommendations (i.e. Goose Rocks Beach) and was friendly and kind without being overbearing. We showed up a bit late and the key was left in a coded lock box for us. The room was compact, but fine for my husband and I for our 2 night stay. We knew beforehand that breakfast would be boxed for us and that was fine. I was happy that they provided yogurt was Chobani and actually had some protein in it (unlike most continental breakfasts that are a carb party). We rented bikes and kayaks during our stay. It was great that they had these for us to utilize. The bikes should be covered during storage, however. They were a bit rusty. This was the priciest place that we stayed during our 7 night trip, but I wouldn't consider it the best. After our stay, I do feel that our stay should not have cost us so much. read more

This was a lovely B&B close to town. It was immaculate and very appealing. Our room was right on the bay and had a great deck with New England style comfy reclining seating. The room was beautiful and the bed and pillows were comfortable. The room was a little tight on space and the toilet is right next to the door so is a little awkward. Modern power plugs convenient to the bed were not in evidence. There was a sitting chair but no where to sit and eat or to work. The desk folks were very nice and helpful with local suggestions for eating and things to do. ***VERY not happy with the continental breakfast. You shouldn't list yourself as a B&B and have continental breakfast. Being a B&B implies hot breakfast... period!*** Not only that, there was hardly anything on it... there was only orange juice, coffee, and tea... no apple or any other kind of juice. There was yogurt and fruit but there was only one kind of cereal (Cheerios), only 2 kinds of bread... white and wheat... No pastries, muffins, bagels, croissants, rolls, English muffins, doughnuts, etc. To be fair, I think there was oatmeal and there was banana bread that was pretty good. The one good thing I can say about the breakfast is that it was available at 7:30am instead of 8:30 like some of the other B&Bs we stayed at on this trip. ***Almost all of the other reviews of this place had HOT breakfast on them so I guess we were just ripped off.*** I would love to give this place a great review and I would probably have come back if it weren't for the breakfast ripoff. read more

This is such a nice place to stay for a few days! The owner, Caroline was so kind and very helpful. She was really eager to recommend places to go out (dinner, drinks etc.) and circled some stuff on the map for us. When she thought of something else we might enjoy she made a point to give us the brochure etc. The grounds are nice. There is a nice outdoor space with picnic tables and chairs for stargazing. The decor is really nice, and you can see the small thoughtful touches throughout. If you can afford it, I would definitely recommend staying in a room with a view of the water. We stayed in the cheapest room and it was on the porch with a straight shot view of the parking lot and no natural light. The room itself was very nice, but I guess that was the only negative (really nothing they could do about it, but just an FYI for those looking to book). And of course.. saving the best point for last-- the amazing 3 course breakfast. Elegantly decorated fruit plate, 2 amuse bouche (1 sweet, 1 savory) and a giant entree. Plenty of options!! Lobster mac and cheese is acceptable to eat at 10AM here! :P read more

You absolutely must have breakfast at the Edgewater Inn if you are ever at Kennebunkport. Weather permitting, ask to sit outside overlooking the lake. The staff is exceptionally attentive. I am very curious at the type of training they get but they are FANTASTIC. Our waiter Tristan was great, very patient, went over to explain every dish and how it was prepared. Coffee and tea was served within 2 minutes, followed by complimentary dishes from the kitchen. We ordered three dishes: skillet breakfast, fluffy pancakes and lobster with polenta (sorry, forgot the exact name). OMG. Those pancakes were definitely fluffy and the chef didn't skimp on chocolate chips. The skillet breakfast was savory, nutritious, side salad was a nice touch. My husband loved his polenta with lobsters, he was in the carboloading mood that day. I believe the rooms at the inn are great too; I heard other visitors commenting how much they were enjoying their stay. We would love to come back as guests next time. read more

My family stayed in the inn's Shannon Cottage which is just adjacent to the main inn. The cottage was great - 3 beds, 2 bathrooms both with showers, tvs with dvd and vcr, a little kitchen with stovetop, microwave, dishes, cutlery, and a few other cooking implements. The inn even has a book and dvd library. Beautiful view of the river and the hummingbirds which feed frequently at the many feeders. Awesome location - right nextdoor to Mabels Lobster Claw which served fantastic dinner, ice cream and takeout. The inn is also a 2 minute walk to a small beach which is great for seaglass hunting and fishing off the breakers at the entrance to the harbor. We caught a 30 inch striper! It's also a 1.5 mi scenic walk to Walker Point. I have to say the highlight of our stay were the complimentary gourmet breakfasts every morning from 8-10. Tony (the chef) is incredible and has a great taste for food. There is always a sweet and a savory option, and Tony can always do standard breakfast fare for the less adventurous. Various cookies and bars are put out in the afternoon for late snacking as well. It's a 5 minute drive into downtown Kennebunkport which is charming as well. This is a fantastic place to stay! Beautiful inn and very nice and attentive owners. We showed up late (past 10 pm) but the owners made sure we check in okay! The place is very pretty and home like. The movie collection is impressive! The breakfast is even better! We want to come back with our parents next time we come to maine :) the only thing was we couldn't get wifi in our room but.. It's a vacation, who needs wifi when you have such beautiful view and house :p read more

My friends stayed at the Shannon Cottage when they were in town for my wedding. It was the perfect place for a few friends to stay. It also served at a meeting place for all of us that were in town. One morning I had an incredible breakfast with my friends who were staying at the Green Heron. Definitely the best breakfast in town (and as a Kennebunkport local I would know!). We didn't stay in the inn, but 10 stars to their breakfast/brunch services! Had our Yorkie with us, went to places that claimed to be dog friendly (they literally had one table outside), then stumbled here and was beyond thrilled. It takes 1-2 hours to get through the courses and we were so happy to wait because the end game was worth it. 3-4 courses, the food couldn't have been more delicious, they incorporated seafood in virtually every item, and they were so insanely accommodating as well as reasonably priced for what you're served. The Edgewater Inn is the best B&B I've ever stayed at anywhere. The owner Caroline knows how to give great service and her staff is wonderful. The Inn is completely newly remodeled and it's beautiful. Hardwood floors, beautiful furniture, antique satin drapes, fine linens and robes. The 2 BR luxury suite is wonderfully comfortable. We loved the wine refrigerator and the 3 flat screen TVs. Caroline is great at suggesting other places for lunch or dinner. Staying here made our vacation truly relaxing and incredibly enjoyable and as comfortable as being home. The 4 course brunches are insanely delicious and spoiled us rotten. I mean how much steak and lobster and crab and if you like duck , not my thing, but it's all precisely made with no detail left unturned. Unfair Treatment at Edgewater Inn My husband and I booked a 2-night stay at Edgewater Inn in August. Five days before, I was rushed into surgery for an appendicitis- and called the Inn from the hospital the next day to cancel our reservation, only to be emailed by the inn's owner, Caroline Neish, that she could not/would not make an exception and consider refunding our fully paid reservation of $673.62- because it was a non-refundable reservation. We appealed to her sense of fairness since this was an unforeseen circumstance and asked for a partial refund or applying our payment to a future stay. She flatly refused and stated this is a seasonal business and we should have purchased travel insurance. (who buys travel insurance for a 2-night inn stay?!!) We then contacted our credit card company who reached out on our behalf. She still refused to reconsider. My husband and I travel extensively and have never encountered such unreasonable and, needless to say, uncaring treatment. As a tourism service business, you'd think as a gesture of goodwill, this Inn could have made an exception here. We don't feel it was unreasonable to ask given this amount of money. The other inn we booked in Boothbay, Maine, for later that same week, immediately refunded our reservation when they heard the reason and wished me well. We have lots of choices as consumers - and I for one want to do business with those places that do what's right when called upon - this was one of those times when a business had a clear choice and chose money over caring for people. The best breakfast I have ever had at a Bed & Breakfast. The chef is amazing, everyday he wetted our appetite with an "amusebush" of some fresh ingredient, creative dishes, the portions were plentiful (to much for me) and every bite was delicious & flavorful. The wait staff is friendly, helpful and charming. The atmosphere with a view of a pond off the Kennebunkport River was serene. The proprietor made sure we had everything we needed, the rooms were modern & very clean & freshly decorated. She gave us great advice for Dinner, (the Inn only serves breakfast & brunch) and entertainment. We will definitely be staying here again. read more

Two weeks ago my wife and I and two of our friends had the distinct pleasure of staying at The Edgewater Inn toward the end of our trip to Acadia National Park. Edgewater is exactly what we needed to totally relax and enjoy ourselves. First of all, upon driving up to this beautiful inn we were greeted by the owner's son of about 12-13 years old. He totally charmed us with a level of politeness and formality that is rarely seen today. So for first impressions, the owner Caroline Neish and her husband certainly are great parents having the kids work and be so courteous. When we were shown to our rooms, we were blown away; they were well designed and simply luxurious. The structure itself was given a 100% renovation very recently so everything was perfect, the bed, bathroom, porch etc. Caroline came out to greet us and show us around the facility which she designed and managed, Obviously, she was proud, (rightfully so) of her beautiful place. She showed us the other rooms and her fabulous dining room which is also open to the public. They serve breakfast only and have a three course menu that is to die for. Her executive chef, Walter Leffler worked for Ronald Reagan and other major celebs and couldn't have been nicer or more capable. His food choice from mac 'n cheese with Lobster to the bee pollen and yogurt, Monkey Bread, steak and eggs were incredible. Net, net, this Inn is one you cannot pass up. Caroline Neish is as down to earth and as nice a person as people come; Professional, quality all which make for a wonderful example for many others to follow. And yes, of course the next time we go back to the area (from Los Angeles), we'll return to The Edgewater Inn. read more

My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to get a last-minute room here for the weekend and could not have been more pleased with our stay! We stayed in a dog-friendly room on the first floor. The room looked and felt like we were staying in a friend's beach home--the walls were a soothing light blue, and all of the furniture was white wood. Everything was brand new and immaculately clean. Even though we were on the first floor facing the street, it was perfectly quiet. The location is great--an easy walk to many restaurants, the beach, Ocean Avenue waterfront, and town. The inn is right on the water and they have beautiful outdoor furniture and blankets where you can sit and relax, as well as a living room with board games. They have bikes and kayaks you can rent. The best part might have been the breakfast though--most luxurious breakfast I have ever had and it's included in the room rate! We had several courses including amuse bouche (amazing scones, fruit, pulled pork with mango salsa), poached eggs with hollandaise and lobster/crab/shrimp, lobster mac and cheese with steak and eggs, and lobster home fries--all enjoyed while sitting outside by the water. The chef used to work at the Ritz in NY and you can tell--if you don't stay here, you should come just for the breakfast. The Edgewater is elegant enough for a honeymoon but relaxed enough for a casual weekend. I came to breakfast here the other day and it was simply amazing. Whether it was our view overlooking a cove, the tasteful decorations, or the terrific staff, we were delighted in every aspect of this restaurant. Then our food came and we were simply overwhelmed.
